I'm trying to like this phone but this screen has serious issues. I'm always accidentally selecting stuff when swiping. At other times it won't select anything on the first or second try. Seems like I really have to push hard for it not to lose the "progress" of a swipe. Bad phone or am I not the only one?
Seems to be no settings that could make this better...

Nope, you're not alone, I'm having the same issues with mine. I also find that the keyboard is not as accurate when texting. I've never had a problem typing before but with this phone i keep having to go back and correct almost every word I type. I'm wondering if the new Gorilla Glass 5 has anything to do with it? My wife's S7 Edge with the Gorilla Glass 4 doesn't seem to have these issues and just seems much more responsive overall.
I thought it was my film screen protector causing the issue. I usually use the glass screen protectors. Definitely selecting while swiping and less accurate keyboard for me too.
Screen scratches very easy, breaks very easy and is less sensitive. This is an upgrade? Big fail Samsung!
Same here. Once I got used to it, it's not that bad for me though.
Hopefully it's something Samsung/Sprint can fix with an update.
Update.
I factory reset my phone this morning. When setting the phone up this time I did not use my Samsung account to restore settings but just the Google settings from my account.
All seems to be well now.
No real complaints now.

I probably should have tried this, but I couldn't stand it and just returned the phone tonight. It's a pretty nice phone, but for the price I paid, I'd expect the UI to not be so unresponsive.

I'm convinced that the screen is slightly out of calibration - but I can see no way to reset the calibration. (I'm ex WinMo!) - it must be in there somewhere - or do i need "an app for that".
Advice appreciated
G.
I was also thinking this. Unfortunately I still have not bought the phone yet, or I would of tried creating an app to test this theory. If a touch can be captured in x/y data, we could see what the problem is with the bottom row keys.

The more I use the phone, I'm starting 2 think that the screen is not so much out of calibration, but is very sensitive 2 the angle that U touch the screen. when I use 2 hands 2 use the phone, It seems 2 always respond correctly
cause my finger is touching straight down, but if I use 1 hand and try 2 reach
across the it responds off a lil at times. 2 solve this I put the phone 2 the end of my
fingers and secure it as far from my thumb as possible. awkward at first 4 me be it responds correctly when I do. Hope this is clear and helps U. I do have big hands though.

I might know what you are talking about. At times I can't slide home screens when using the phone with one hand and it can get very annoying, but I blame myself rather than this wonderful phone.
I also remember my wife using the phone while it was flat on the desk and it would not respond properly, but as soon as it was picked up and did the same procedures it would work properly. We were thinking that It may have something to do with the angle of the phone and our fingers on the screen. Dont really know I just know how to get it working.
Have you guys rooted and enabled multi-touch?
If not, are you sure this isn't to do with the lack of multi-touch. On my N1 I have the same problem when using it with one hand. And I've noticed it's because part of my palm sometimes touches the screen as I'm holding the phone. As theres no multi-touch it won't register what I'm selecting with my thumb until my palm stops touching the screen.
At first I suspected it was an issue with the screen responsiveness/calibration aswell. Because as you try and tap with your thumb a few times, eventually you move your palm and it works.
However, then I took a closer look everytime it happened, and noticed part of my palm was always touching the screen.
Obviously this doesn't happen when you use two hands as usually you will then hold the phone with your fingertips, not by wrapping your hand around it.

Dude, thanks for using your first post on us.
I think you are correct about the palm touching the screen. I have rooted and installed the modaco custom ROM, but I have not installed anything else for multi-touch. I will definitely look into this, thanks.

No problem.
Coming from an iPhone it was not something I ever thought about, so was quite releaved when I figured out why it was happening.
Was on here looking for widgets when I spotted this so thought I'd register and save you scratching your head trying to figure it out like I did.
Lots of stuff to love about the phone, especially the battery life which I'm really impressed with and hadn't even expected to be a plus point over the 3GS. This was just supposed to be a stop gap until the iPhone 4G, but I'm actually thinking I may stick with it now

If you stick with it then welcome to android.
If you don't then you just need to have fun with this phone.
I've been finding ways around the major niggles I had over the last couple of weeks. So it's looking promising that I won't be splashing out for another iPhone in June/July.
It helps that my brother has one and I've had some time to play with it and get everything the way I want it. Which is part of the reason I got it now. If it had been during a really busy period (work wise), i'd probably be back on the 3GS.
Does anyone else have loose home button on their phone? It makes noises when you lightly tap on it and doesn't sound too good. I've also went to the T-Mobile store today and noticed my home button is more flush than the both display models they had. Anyone else face the same issue?

If it feels off go in and have them pull out a brand new one. When there in store. If yours feels off, have it replaced! I do this with any new phone. I tediously inspect it. If I think something feels off I have them show me a new one and compare. That way I can show them right then and there, this is why you're going to give me another phone lol

I have a feeling my front glass is slightly misaligned. Will be checking the store model to make sure, as the corner by the back button seems a bit sunken in. The frame definitely comes up over the glass a little.
I was just in the Samsung Experience Store and noticed that of the four regular S6s they had, three had loose homebuttons. The Edges seemed fine though.
My t mobile version is a bit loose as well. It feels like a minor issue but it is pretty annoying....
I picked up my S6 this morning and have noticed that a light tap on the home button makes a noise. It's annoying and it makes an otherwise solid feeling, quality phone feel cheap. I guess I'll try taking it back to see if I can get another one that doesn't have this issue.
The frame is suppose to slightly overlap the screen by the way
I actually returned my T mobile version for another, and the other has the exact same loose button
Well i noticed it after you guys wrote about it here. I have a S6 32Gig White, a friend has a S6 64gig Black version, i checked his S6 and he doesn't have this issue.
But honestly, it is not like i tap on the button all the time, you can only hear it if you slightly tap on it. If you fully press it, you don't even hear it. It is also not like it makes any sounds when moving the phone, therefore i am not going through all the pain to get this replaced just to receive another one with a loose button

Yeah, if I didn't have this Edge without the issue it might not bother me so much
I went back to the T-Mo store and their display model had it. One of the guys opened another one up for me and it too was affected. I ended up walking out with the phone I had. Not gonna make them open a bunch of boxes until they find one that doesn't. At this point the ratio makes it seem like the loose button is normal and any that aren't are the odd ones. Ah well.

That's unfortunate. Perhaps I'll keep mine for a while and deal with it then swap? Wait on a different production run or something.
Mine is nice and tight, but already scratched up. I mean my fingers are rough but jeez. Some soft material on there.

Well i was wrong about it not bothering me It started annoying me after you guys wrote about it...
I went to a T-Mobile store to check if the devices had the same problem, and yes 2 of them had, 1 did not...
Dunno if it is worth to send it back now and wait up to 6 days to receive a replacement that has probably the same issue -.-
P.s. After pressing the button down very hard a few times, the right side stopped making noises, the mid now also seems to be fine, it can only be heared if touching the very left side of the button...
Same issue here. The left side of the home button rattles a little bit when i press lightly on it. Should i exchange or is it normal?

Does it bug you?
On my third t mobile version, all three with loose buttons.
I have a S8+, and one thing that really annoys me is how there is about an inch or so at the top of the homescreen that can't be used for icons or widgets. Normally I would put the Google search bar there, but the highest it can go is about an inch off the notification bar at the top. *Really* annoying to have that space and not use it...
I don't really want to replace the launcher (at least not within 2 days of a brand new phone), so is there a way around it? Or do we have to wait until Samsung realises that the screen aspect ratio is slightly longer that a normal phone, and fixes the issue...
While I'm at it, is there a way to change the icon for a folder to use a specific icon (eg. first app in folder), rather than the usual bad looking (to my eyes at least) tiny apps inside the folder look? Otherwise I'm back to using Folder Organizer I guess... I know Nova probably sorts this all out, but it never 100% agreed with me for whatever reason and I always reverted eventually.
Finally, is there a way to get the AOD screen to appear on a clear flip case? Obviously it's being clever by turning off the display when the flip case is closed (magnet thingy embedded in the case), but as the case is clear(ish) then it defeats the point. Nice if there was a switch in options to keep the AOD screen active even if a case is closed on it, but I cannot find it...
Cheers
I never noticed it left that much spaceā¦ . now it bugs me lol.
Yeah, it leaves a lot of space. Not sure why. You could fit another row of icons easily, but no go currently.

Fair enough. Thought as much. I'll give it a month, see if I reach unheard levels of OCD, and then install Nova if Samsung don't update. Will be about by 10th Nova install, but I always revert eventually. Always something that annoys me with it...
Stupid really, especially as it seems pretty obvious that it's about the right amount of space you gain from the extra length of the S8. Would bet the farm that Samsung forgot the new aspect ratio when it came to this. Honestly, there must be months of testing, and it's hard to believe it was missed.... Unless of course everyone at Samsung just installed Nova... Wouldn't be too surprised...
That AOD issue with the clear flip screen is well annoying though.... Really is a massive pain, especially when you can see right through the case, and even still use the touch screen (useful for answering calls without opening the case). Samsung does an amazing job on the screen, and then their own case has a compatibility issue....
Hmm, just noticed something... First day using while working, and a couple of times while wirelessly charging it has lost the wifi signal. Never (really really rarely) did that with my old Nexus 5. Don't like that considering I clicked on a notification icon on the AOD and it then tells me my network connection isn't available (and then connects before removing the notification so I don't know what it is). That's annoying... Sleep mode or something for wifi? Think I remember something similar years ago... Anyone?
Cheers
Use Nova Launcher and problem solved
@Crivensie, sounds like you're a bit like me. Nothing wrong with high expectations. About Samsung's testing though...I am not sure how thoroughly they test things because I found many bugs on the phone so far and I wasn't even trying. I'm not surprised at all at the issues you're having.

Like in Nova we can lock screen so Icons/widgets do not get delted by mistake
can we do that here in Samsung
My wife and I got ours yesterday. I got the clearly white, her the oh so black. Both 64GB versions.
So, the good first:
Look at feel: I really like the frame. It just feels nicer and way higher quality than both my 2xl and 2xl. It's grippy too. It doesn't feel like it'll slip out of my hands. The glass back is nice too. I'm very glad they finally ditched the two tone. I think it's awful. I had the 3xl, and after like a day I was over the notch. Didn't think about it too much after. After having this phone for about 5 seconds I can say I'm way happier with the forehead. It's not very big at all either.
Screen:
I like the form factor better than the previous two. It's a little skinnier, which is great because with a case it felt just a little to big in my hands (I don't have small hands either). It's also taller, which I also like. The display is better too. I put it next to my 3xl, and it definitely looks better.
Face ID:
I have some good and bad on this one. Bad will be below. The good, it works VERY well. I haven't had one problem yet getting it to unlock. I don't even have to be looking directly at the phone, nor the phone straight at me. I haven't really used smart unlock either. The face unlock works so well I don't think I need it.
Speed:
This phone is very smooth. Much better than my 3xl. The main thing that I didn't like on the 3 was the swipe up and hold for recents. It was kind of glitchy. If I had something open that could scroll, it would a bit before it popped up to recents. Not a problem on this one. I haven't noticed any glitchiness whatsoever yet. I haven't done a ton on it yet though.
Battery:
So far, not bad! It seems to be draining about 3% per hour. I have the AOD on too. Also, it unlocks pretty easy, so, I've had to re-lock it several times.
And the bad:
Face ID:
So, not entirely sold on this. I don't like that almost no apps support it for starters. I use a lot of banking/credit card/etc. apps, and I use long passwords for those. I'm really missing the fingerprint scanner there. The other main gripe is it unlocks way too easy. The tap to wake is sensitive, and if I bump my desk, or pickup my phone more abruptly, it goes to the lockscreen then unlocks immediately. I've had to re-lock my phone several times sitting at work because it keeps waking up when I move around. I also can't just look at notifications on the lockscreen nor answer them from it. It just immediately unlocks no matter what. There's a setting that says it can ask you to confirm screen unlock once it scans the face, but apparently it doesn't work. No go there.
Soli:
So far, I haven't really gotten it to work. Last night I tried to skip a song to the next, it went back a song instead. After that I couldn't get it to work. Since the forehead isn't that big because of it, I don't mind. I'm hoping that they actually get this right and find more applications where it can be used for things.
Edit: Have to add one more thing to the bad:
AOD notifications. They now popup at the top of the screen. No like. I think they're easier to see underneath the AOD clock and such.
Ever since upgrading to Android 11.0, immediate issue has been the sensitivity of the touch screen.
Scrolling up and down will randomly select a link or an item on the page i was scrolling. This seems really evident when you open Google when you scroll all the way to the left. Start scrolling up and down and see if you get errant presses. Seems to be happening a lot on the right hand side of the display where the touches get inaccurate.
I'll be really frank here.... Google sucks at testing and pushing stable updates...

Got my 11 update this afternoon and have been playing with the phone since. Updated all apps that were available to update, then shut down the phone and restarted. Haven't noticed what you are talking about at all. Just went into Google, as you mentioned, and haven't seen any issues. Will keep an eye on it; but my first thought is if there is an installed app causing issues....

I tried the beta last week and this happened to me. I have to go back to 10 and reinstall everything. I might wait a week or so for others to respond before I trust 11 again.
I found out that they made changes to pixel 4 related to touch sensitivity (making it more aggressive). Wondering if that is what's affecting it.
Just upgraded my 4a to 11 today and I'm having the same issue. Also noticed it on the launcher...long press on an app to drag it just immediately opens the app. Just trying to type this post is a struggle. Touch sensitivity and accuracy is all messed up.
Clearly Google has an issue on their hands. Guess will need to escalate this to tech journalists so that they do something about it
Not having this issue. On A10 I felt touch and especially navigation swipes were a tad insensitive relative to other devices. On several occasions I contemplated regressing to 3-button navigation (ugh). A11 fixed that making navigation feel natural again. No problem with taps - yet.
Right/left swipe sensitivity can be controlled in settings on A11. Left mine at default.
Stock 4a w/Nova Prime. Spigen armor case (slightly raised edges). No screen protector.
This issue is getting reported a bunch on www.reddit.com/r/Pixel4a. I personally had the issue pop up a few weeks ago after I installed 11 beta 3. Downgrading back to 10 fixed it.
Some people have said the issue goes away if you remove your screen protector but obviously that isn't the real solution if your phone was working fine prior to the update.
I just posted this question lol i wish i seen your post before. Im dealing w same issue, kind of feel better at least knowing im not the only one dealing with it lol
I think all the touch problems are related to Google Assistant, this app is just too busy messing things up. I use Nova, turned the Assistant off but it was still showing up with a prompt/notification on the bottom telling me to turn it on. So I have disabled the entire Google app and I don't see the Assistant anymore, all is good. Google Play, Pay, Maps etc..., the things I need they all stay intact. And btw, I don't use screen protector.

The only issue I've found is that they seemed to have changed the swipe logic on the homescreen launcher, it acts like it's looking for a slightly different gesture. My muscle memory for quickly accessing overview had to be tweaked slightly, but I've gotten used to it.
I'm not noticing other issues with screen sensitivity. I have an OtterBox Commuter case and the "OMOTON" glass screen protector on my 4a. I adjusted the back swipe sensitivity because the lip of my case is fairly large but that's it.
I'm sorry to hear there have been issues with this

I'm assuming you're using a screen protector?
Try the new touch sensitivity toggle
It helped my touch issues to lower back sensitivity. Using LK brand tempered glass
This issue has been fixed. I think what's troubling is that it was fixed without needing an update... So what dynamic changes are being made within the OS without the need for an OTA update?
edit: nvm its back again. anyone else having touch issues again?
Can confirm. I'm having touch issues every now & then after update to 11.
Reddit has a thread with over 73 responses confirming the issue as well. Still waiting on Google for a fix.
I have same problem and it's so annoying, I also have a screen burn in almost 1cm by 1cmnafter one day of use and volume going up and down on it's own ???

Still no issues here. I am not downplaying those that have this (not at all!) but wonder if an app conflict is part of the cocktail. I do not use Google Assistant which some have implicated. Also have very few apps authorized for screen reading (albeit probably not a factor)
Edit: read on; screen protectors and heat appear to be contributing factors.
Sad to report this issue is NOT yet fixed. It appears to only happen when the phone heats up WITH a screen protector. Just played a game of Risk for about an hour and the problem came back. Just removed my Supershieldz screen protector and the problem is gone. When the phone cools down I'll add the screen protector back and the issue most likely won't come back until the phone heats up again. This never happened on Android 10, so something must have changed with the update. Hopefully it's just a simple software fix and not a hardware issue.
