Hi. My beloved Xperia z5 got exposed to saltwater for 10-15seconds at most. It immediately startet to show signs of damage. Showed headset Jack being plugged in every second, and notifications on and off all the time.
Turned it off, and gave it a fresh water bath. It then worked as normal.
But in the evening when battery had dropped to 3%, I plugged in the charger and it started to show on and off charging all the time. Turned it off and tried again. When plugging the charger it starts, shows startup screen, then shows battery charging with green marks, and switches over to showing red marks and 3%power and goes off. Also the led turns first red, then blue, so yellow and goes off.
Anyone know a solution?
I'd give it a bit of time to dry out tbh... Silica packing gel and a air sealed box will help
u should know that u shouldnt put ur phone in salt water.its not same like fresh one...salt can ruin the components and all metal pieces!!!if u really want to dry out ur phone then i recomend u to put the phone on direct sunlight for an hour or two and it will dry out...i had xperia Z and Z2 and Z5 but the Z5 never went to water due to bad resistance of Z2 i was 30 mins in the fresh water and my screen start to flicker so i emediatly went out and dry it off and then screen worked again like it should(i had luck i gues), so thats why i never tryed Z5 in the water.i was a fool to believe that u can make pictures underwater,yes u can but for what price...water ressistant phones are not ment to dive and swim ...it can survive sudden splash or drop in to the water but thats all.
try pouring rubbing alcohol inside(last resort) and shake your phone violently, then wait for it to dry under the sun. NOTE TAKE THIS AS YOUR LAST RESORT ONLY WHEN SONY REFUSES TO TAKE YOUR PHONE FOR REPAIR
My phone died after get submerged in sea water, it strated to work by it self, strange colored lines apeared at the sreem... then the phone continuaslly vibrates untel the battery die. i got some fogg on both cameras and i could get it out, tryed thusb charger, and does nothing, doesnt turn on, nothing... really dead

Same lol, I just sent it back to Sony :/ and they replaced my phone, of course I didn't tell them about the water damage

actualy my friend told them that he had the phone in the water and yet they replaced the phone with new one good job Sony...also i managed to get a brend new z2 after using it for one and half year...
You cannot put Z5 in water... It's clearly stated on Quick Starter Guidw inside the box..

Of course, It's your phone. You can do whatever you want with it. But as they are the manufacturer they recommend to not put it complete underwater regardless of the IP Certification it has, you should do what manufacturer recommends

Been a while, and this post got my attention again.. An UPDATE:
I got it working again after i opened it, and gave it a good drying
I have a bug with camera opening randomly. I "fixed" this by just disabling camera app. The phone get "phantom" touchinput, and the opens camera.
Battery is charging fine, and have not had any other bugs related to the water damage.
Im now currently using Samsung S7 Egde, so i do not need this as a daily device.
Have been thinking of selling it, but dont belive i will get so much for it as it has been damaged by water.

You don't call it waterproof and claim it has certified waterproofing capabilities and not recommend putting it in the water.
If it is waterproof, it is waterproof.

Hi all,
I'm trying to repair an optimus one with water damage. The phone won't switch on, but does come up with the LG logo followed by the battery charging screen when I plug it in, and is recognized as an LG android usb device when I connect it to my computer. I can't get into recovery using the home+vol down+power combination. Any ideas what to try next, or is it a write-off? (All ideas are welcome, no matter how crazy, since it's basically useless now anyway )

u can try keeping the phone under the rice or in sunlight for 2 days
I recomend the rice, but not the direct sunlight for 2 days.
Sorry, I was unclear. The water damage happened a long time ago, about a month, and it's been working somewhat since. It's gradually got more difficult to turn on (removing battery, sim card etc...) until now it finally won't. I mainly wanted to know if there's any other way to get into it via adb or something, to get some more diagnostics.

Don't switch on your phone untill its properly dried... (electronic devices get damaged by water only because of short circuiting in internal parts)
so remove the battery, back cover, sim, sd card etc... and put it in rice for atleast one day...
now try to flash recovery via adb, wipe everything and reinstall rom...
if it doesn't work go to Service Centre...

If you're cellphone is out of warranty, you should open it (carefully, only if you know what you're doing & using the service manual) and spray some contact cleaner (like WD40, one specific for electronic should be better) on the motherboard. It should be useful to avoid micro shortcuts. After, you can try to use the tutorial for restoring a bricked phone.
I've saved many of old phones by doing this (including an Iphone & a GT540 having similar troubles).

Same, removing battery & accessories and to put the cell phone on rice for two days minimum in a box on a warm (but not hot!) place. Direct sunlight is not good IMO.
Also, eating the rice after is not recommended

Thanks killdashnine, I never thought of WD40 but it's worth a shot. Like I said, I don't have a lot of hope left, but anything is worth a try!
Okay, I'm answering to a topic ... and I did worst ...
1- My O1 has been dropped in water few times (usually, 2cm of water while showering), I had sometimes some screen bugs (like white screen + color dots), but nothing more. Since 1year and half (even more in fact), I never have protected it from rain or water.
2- Last weekend, I slept in one Hammack (hammac) with a blanket and I woke up totally wet because of the rain (okay, I was drunk, and I tried to sleep under the shower) and I forgot to dry up my phone...
3- Finally, while waking up lately to go to work ... I dropped my O1 in my mug full of Ginger tea (don't make silly jokes for ginger bread) without noticing it. (I wasn't drunk). Sick ...
My phone has totally crashed, water was leaking from everywhere and the LCD has water between the slides.
I've left him drying for 3 days with rice, plus 1 day on a computer's fan. My O1 was crashing at the white LG logo. After some WD40 on the battery connector + USB, the phone was doing bootloops.
I succeed to flash it with KDZ and the Indian V20C, but Android was starting on "Safe mode" and physicals keys were buggy + high battery drain.
This morning, I finally decided to open my O1, and I fount out that even with several days of drying with a very warm and dry weather + rice + fan wasn't sufficient because there were still some water inside. There are good photo tutorials on google to disassemble your Optimus without a lot of risks
So, I've cleaned the water, put some paper on the physical keys contact and left some WD40 + cleaning with a soft dry cotton. After 5 hours under a dry aircon with all the parts totally disassembled (motherboard, digitiser, lcd ...) , the O1 was working well.
There is still some water on the LCD, I haven't tried to "pill it up". Maybe I'll give a try if there is still the silly watermark on the screen.
So, If you have water on your LG Optimus one, remove the battery and left it for a long time with a dry air and rice like 7 days or more!
If you can't, completely disassemble it, and dry it manually and left all parts drying for at least few hours with ideal conditions.
I'm stupid and I can't fix it, but my O1 has (again) survived. So, be patient before trying to start it up if you're having water in your O1.
If you want, I've some pics (water in screen, disassembled O1 drying ...)

A while ago i received my N5 and i really enjoyed it! 2 days, i drop the thing in the toilet. :crying:
Okay so my insurance wont cover it and the phone has dryed in Rice and i followed all the advices that were online.
Tho i couldnt remove the batteri and i know this is a crucial point since the current+water will destroy the circuits.
Now my phone either wont start, or sometimes it will try to boot showing the google logo and then crashing (it cant enter the OS).
Is it worth trying to repair the thing? I dont think it will be a problem for me to change a circuit board og replace another part, but since i dont have any experience with phones i dont know what part i should start with.
The phone costs 580 dollars here in Denmark where i live.
Is it worth it ?

You can open it up, get some rubbing alcohol and submerge the board into the rubbing alcohol. Use a soft tooth brush and scrub the board. Usually the board gets corrosion/dirt from the water. Once thoroughly clean put a blow dryer to it (use medium to no heat. DO NOT PUT THE BATTERY IN THE ALCOHOL. ONLY THE BOARD!
I've tried this before and it worked like a charm when my Galaxy Nexus had water damage.

As soon as you dropped it in water you should have turned it off and left it off for days and possibly even took a hairdryer to it or let it sit in front of the heat vent.
Number one mistake is trying to turn it on. If anybody else drops the nexus in water. Because it has no removable battery cover. Rice won't do the trick. It would take way too long and the water would have already rusted the metal components and trashed all the pop connectors. If you drop the phone is water. Quickly take the entire phone apart. Than put all the pieces in rice. That will allow the rice to actually absorb the left over water. YouTube "nexus 5 tear down". Its always a good thing to know how to do this.

After disasembling the phone i found that the top board was very teared by the water and it was clear how some of the sockets had poor or no connection.
I used pure alchol (Dunno what its called in english) and a small toothbrush to clean the board. I dryed the board with a hair dryer on cold setting to avoid over heating the CPU parts. Now the phone works! and it doesnt look like it has any pearment faults or flaws. Even the display is normal and all my previous settings and the OS was intact. Thanks for the help everybody! and yes the best thing to do is remove the powersource and dry the boards individually if exposed to water

Hey guys. I followed the instructions and have gotten my phone to power. Problem is when it goes from the power up screen that say "Google" to the colored balls, the balls freeze and it goes back to "Google" and freezing there. Any ideas on what I can do to get it to boot?
I just need it to boot long enough to retrieve my pictures and this hot chick's number I got right before the phone was dropped in the pool. Thanks.
edit: When I hold Volume Down/Power, I can get it to the bootloader. Anything I can do from here to salvage my stuff? I'm not familiar with bootloader options. Plugged into my computer, I can hear my PC make the noise as though it's connected which typically then leads to the phone's drive being accessible on the computer however it then immediately makes the noise of the phone being disconnected.
I believe I am having the same problem as you. I briefly dropped it into a creek for no more than a few seconds. That was enough to make the display unresponsive to touch. I was able to power down and quickly did so.
Unfortunately I wasn't near any rice immediately (motorcycle) so I put the phone in my mesh jacket in 100F weather and hoped for the best. I left it off at this point. When I got home I turned it back on (stupid I know) and the N5 didn't boot, only stopped at "Google" boot. I powered down the phone and rebooted, this time it worked. A quick checkup showed the external speaker didn't work for Play music, but did work for T-mobile visual voicemail. Also, the earpiece didn't work when I attempted to make calls.
At this point I realize I probably screwed up the phone big time. Once I realized not all components were working I put the phone in a ziplock bag with brown rice new from the store. I guess I'll let it sit for 48 hours and then attempt again. If it doesn't work, I'll attempt taking the phone apart and cleaning each part. And I'm really only going to attempt that because this phone isn't even paid off!!
These phones need to be made tougher! I am losing hope that there's any chance of my phone surviving at this point.

I dropped my nexus 5 in the pool while I was on vacation. When i came home i clean all the parts with rubbing alcohol, my phone worked! A day later i tried again but my phone froze on the start-up screen (with the magical floaty balls) and i haven't been able to turn on my phone since i got it to work. What should i do? is it worth saving? PLEASE HELP!!!:crying::crying::crying:

When I press on the phone I can feel the vibration but Google-boot logo will not display and it will only display a white-dim light in the bottom part of the screen. I tried to connect it in a Windows computer it will be recognised as a Nexus 5 phone. Does it mean I had to replace my LCD.?

Who knows what damage did the water do? If the corrosion sets in, your device will be hosed for sure.
It's really a fools errand to fix water damaged phones as no one can be sure the extent of the damage.
If you take it to a service centre, they'll most probably replace the lcd + mobo which will cost a bomb.

If you buy a new LCD, how will you know the Motherboard still works? Then what if you have to buy new motherboard?
Cut your losses. Replace the whole phone. Then get insurance

Spending money on a water damaged device is usually money wasted. Cause there's usually more things wrecked you find out along the way.
Save the money to go towards a new device.
I had the same problem, I used all the methods that I've read with no solution, my last hope is that the battery got damaged, is there a chance that maybe the battery is the problem? I can get a replacement for 20 dollars, but what do you think? thanks

It was my second time I have quickly washed my phone under tap water. When it gets wet the Smart Connect app that I use (When plugging in headset, it starts playing music and gives vibrating notification) starts glitching, no wonder, the phone because of water thinks it has headset plugged in and then it goes on-off until I blow in the hole to get the water out. Today I gave it a quick wash and all seemed fine. Then after some time the screen started flickering. Like you press the power button very fast and turns screen on and off. Okay.. weird, never done that. Then the button stops working altogether. Fingerprint reader works, absolutely everything else as well, did the *#service#* and the one from setting > support > diagnostics. And everything works, calls and everything. But the power button does not. What it does is when I press vol. up then the vol goes up and power menu comes up that you get from holding down the power button and screen goes off and on. It doesn't work like regular power button press but it quickly turns off and on again.
What I did now is I set hairdryer next to it without heat on lowest speed to blow on the volume and power buttons. Hopefully it goes normal but if it doesn't...
Do I have any luck going back to the store for warranty? I mean it's supposed to be water resistant. I didn't submerge it, just running water from tap for about 20 or so seconds maybe even less.
I don't think it is covered under warranty as Sony specifically states on its site and disclaimers that the phone is NOT waterproof.
Water damage is therefore not covered. U can try though, but I'm afraid ur out of luck.
U can try to submerge the phone in a cup of rice for 24/48 hours.
An hairdryer would only condense the water inside the phone.
Make sure to remove sim and SD card tray first and leave the flap opened before putting it into rice.

Strange bequse on the swedish sony site they say ip68 class.
That it will survive a dip in the bathtub or being able to wash the phone in rinsing water.

No I haven't unlocked it yet. Still seems too tedious.
Yup. IP68 means submersible for something like 30 mins in clean water for 1 metre depth (or more depending on manufacturers status) if I remember right
So they can't say it's ip68 and then void any warranty if it gets wet because that's false advertising surely

I would still wait a few days, I expect the buttons to sort themselves out, maybe try the rice method.
On the other hand that won't 'fix' your confidence in the waterproof capabilities of your device..

Took it to the store and they happily took it, saying it should be waterproof and the dead power button shouldn't happen with little water. It takes up to 2 weeks in warranty service so I'll update when I got some news.
Got a Galaxy S4 mini with busted screen and busted proximity sensor as a temporary phone.. At least I'm able to root the crap out of it

Got my device back, working, motherboard and a ribbon cable replaced. Asked the girl in the shop if I should now assume that the device is now not waterproof. She said absolutely no, I can test it under tap water and if anything then bring it back and then it's on the repair company because they have to make sure the device remains waterproof. Came home, gave it a 20 or so second wash like the first time. Went away for few hours, came back and same problem again, power button doesn't work, screen flashes on and off and vol up brings up the power menu. Tomorrow I'm going to bring it back.
my phone suddenly got a weird problem...when the phone is locked and try to unlock it via power or home button..the touch keys light tremble and shakes (dont know the exact meaning to it) then turn off then turn on normally

Has your phone had any kind of moisture damage. I bought mine wouldnt charge and found moisture corrosion on the flex cables and after proper cleaning and coating all is well.
Or have you tried stock rom odin back stock. Safe mode to see if its a app causing the issue. Resets. Anything at all

to be honest i dont know if there is a moisture damage or not but yes i booted into safe mode and tried stock rom with odin and the problem still exist
Well from there it may be a hardware issue. Im not familiar with samsungs enough to know. But i know when using odin certain partitions arent touched im not to familiar with the restore throught odin but again sounds like hardware issues. I bought mine and the battery wouldnt charge and touch lights were funky operational but wouldnt light up and i cleand and coated my contcts on the flex cables and it solved my problems. Ive red this device is highly susceptable to moisture even just plain high humidity.

I run a electronics repair. I did it my self. There are guides on tear down. I used a qtip with 1 drop of alcohol and then coated with like a half a drop of wd40. And it care mine not lighting up and the no charge issue. Only suggestion is use a heat gun to remove the back i used a hairdryer and didnt get it hot enougb and broke my back glass. U can get them online for like 6 bucks but if it dont bother u like it dont me im in a sealed case and i never see it. Mines been working for about 2 months now. I purchased mine from a customer that said it wouldnt turn on. And later on told me they that they dropped it in slight amount of water and it took 2 to 3 weeks to quit working. I can confirm now at least 3 other people on xda have fixed a few issues like this. And i have repaired another one yesterday with the same problem. It just sucks for people cause im sure u spent a pretty good amount on your device. I give 20 bucks american for mine and got lucky.

in my case yeah it works normally without any problem but it looks annoying that u have bought a flagship device and it doing this.. so i am really thinking to do like you said with a hope to fix this problem..even if turned off those lights when i open the device the light shakes and then turn off the light

Thats Part of the reason im on samsung now lg g4 1st offer no form of bootloader unlock no twrp 2 stock based roms. 2nd tbere is a hardware issue affecting an unkown amount of g4s with the solder points on the big cores and it puts the device into a endles bootloop no repair other than a new mother board 220 bucks. As i have been in it and done the thermal paste mod for cooling i have no waranty on it. So here i bought a 500dollar flagship that could shut down today tomorrow or 3 months from now. So i know how u feel.

Hello guys, so my friend has a new OP6, he was charging his phone util it get stucks at 82%, he rebooted the phone and then it was 50%. He turned it off and plugged it and the screen showed battery temperature is too low to charge.
We tried my charger on his phone same thing, tried to check with and app the battery temperature and it was detected as -40°C so i guess it's the sensor
We cleared the cache and even factory reset but nothing, always stuck at 50% and as you can guess it will soon die.
Any other option is welcome, here are some pics for you to check. We saw on other forums that this problem occured on other Oneplus phones like 3 and 3t but no solution yet
I've seen this happen to people who dropped their Oneplus 3. The battery temperature sensor gets damaged.
He didn't drop it or any damage occured, it just came from nowhere, so unfortunate. I guess he will have to contact amazon for the warranty or does he contact Oneplus without passing by amazon??

I have the same issue but my phone didn't fall and I've tried everything, resetting wiping, rooting.
I opened it up and even tried a different battery and I also tried different chargers and leaving it off for 24 hrs.
All with no luck can anyone please help ?
Why did you even open it, you shouldn't have tried that, because it's a defected sensor. my friend got his phone replaced by the warranty without questions asked, but in your case i don't know if they will replace it or no

my phone had water damage so unfortunately it was out of warranty already.
I let it dry for a day but the screen didn't even come on, after i opened it and cleaned all the connectors it worked and the charging even worked but jut for 1 day.. after that i always got this error, everything else works fine.
i'm thinking maybe i can just buy one of those external powerbank cases or so..

If you have the error like the pics i chared, it wont work, if you install Ampere app, you will see that it shows a very low temperature like -30 or so, so the sensor is definetly out of service, I don't know if the sensor is on the battery(you said you put another one and i didn't work out) so i dont thinks it's there, try changing the doughter board, or in the worst case it's on the motherboard.
yes i saw a picture of the oneplus 3 somewhere with the temp sensor on the motherboard but the oneplus 6 has almost all of its ic's under heat shielding that you cant remove afaik, (they did remove it on the ifixit totorial though.
Furthermore i found a way to mock the battery tempeture sensor with adb but strangely enough you still cant charge it when you set the temp to 20 or so degrees c.

Let him say what he wants lol, i know what i am talking about, the phone was in my hand, i tried everything possible from my side, i was the one who opened the thread lol, i read about the problem, i saw videos of ppl fixing it and changing the sensor, but apparently he didn't so...
But i didn't try the method with adb back then because the phone was on warranty and we thought they should replace it would be better for us than to "magically" mock the sensor and the battery temp
i think i finally solved my problem after a week )

NEVER use the microwave, you can put it in the Oven at 50c but the microwave will permanently fry the device and create flashes and fires...

So I just bought the one plus 6 and I read this post and kinda creeped me out incase this happens to my device do I have warranty from one plus if this device was purchased from a not so popular site
which site did you buy from, and this is a very rare case that happened, and when you buy from a site, that is no the official OP website or when OP is not the official seller in it, your warranty is between you and the website not between you and OP, i hope it's clear.
For ex: you buy from amazon, if you have any problem, you contact amazon not OP, if you buy from gearbest , you must contact gearbest in case something bad happened, and don't worry it's a very rare case and it's covered by the warranty
Solved, loose connector
I recently (about a month ago) bought a new battery from China for my Oneplus 3.
I was really happy with the improved battery life. Oneplus 3 is still a really good phone!
Just 3 days ago I saw the "temperature too low" warning, but luckily it went away.
Today I wasn't able to charge it and it showed 50% charge until it just died without a warning.
I opened it up and saw the connector was loose - the cable from the battery to the phone. It must have come loose from a drop of the phone (it does fall every now and then).
Now it's charging and I do not need to upgrade yet. 2,5 years and counting with my OP3.
