Stuck in boot loop after possible water damage - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, While on holidays I dropped my phone on the beach and a wave hit it, it was covered in sand etc and it was wet. The phone, however, was still turned on and the screen still worked. I locked the phone, and removed the sand from the charging port and between the buttons. But when I turn it on, it goes to the "1+ Powered By Android" screen, and it doesn't go past that. I also can't reach the recovery screen, but I can get to fastboot mode
I left it in rice for a few days, to no luck and I put it in the hot press overnight which didn't work either.
I also tried flashing the stock rom from fastboot mode, and flash a recovery rom too, but it didn't help at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to try and fix it?
Cheers, Adam.

[Q] Stuck in NvFlash mode, can't turn tablet off

Alright so I got the tablet yesterday and I've been hacking it ever since.
Here's what happened:
Booted into NvFlash mode, flashed a custom recovery, everything went fine. However, when I tried to turn the tablet off after the flash, it refused to do so.
Now it's just stuck on the "Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server" screen and I can't for the life of me get the damn thing to turn off.
My PC still recognizes it over usb, but when I try to do anything with nvflash, it hangs on "Nvflash started".
Any ideas apart from letting the battery drain and trying again? This is barely using any power so it's gonna take a looooooong time for that to happen.
Never had this issue, but yes you might have to let the battery drain if its stuck in APX mode and cannot get out. It will take about 24 hours - I know this because I had to do this once.
Is it possible that the power button is stuck?

Nope, I've pressed it a million times already.
If it's not off by the morning I'm taking it back to Office Depot and saying that I tried to install the update for the stock OS and this happened. Just hope nobody there knows anything about custom ROMs.
There is a reset button inside that may help. Because some genius designed this thing the back cover has to come off to get to it though. Only 4 screws, and a couple clips around the cover.
True, but for most people letting the battery drain might be a better solution. It is a bit difficult to get the back off as there are clamps inside the device, kinda like an iPod. And of course you will void your warranty. I actually destroyed a few iPod prying tools getting my back case off.
Someone here actually drilled a hole in the back of their device to get to the reset hole. That's actually not a bad idea, if you don't have any plans on ever returning the device.
Everytime my device hangs I hold down the power button for 10 seconds and it turns off. Did you try that?

Haha! I think those things self destruct as soon as they come from the package. I like the thick guitar picks better when I am trying to break... I mean fix... stuff
Anyone have an update? Mine is stuck also. if I rerun nvflash on pc it boots it back up but everytime i turn it off it goes back to apx mode/black screen.
I had this problem, but I had downloaded the wrong version of the NVflash. Try the other one in the Dropbox and reflash.
As for the stuck in the APX mode, I was there too, but I just held the Power button until turned off, re-entered in APX mode, and reflashed.

Hardware problem?

I bought an used infuse the other day to fix and sell to a friend. The owner said it was bricked, but I've since gotten it into recovery mode, download mode, and a normal power on. It goes into a bootloop most of the time though, the endless bootloop people seem to be getting when the power button gets stuck.
I've completely disassembled the phone and I can't find the problem. The power button (the white one on the inside) moves completely freely. I've tried booting up the phone with the back housing off so the power button is bare but it still bootlooped. The only way I can get it to boot up is to repeatedly hit the back of the phone onto my hand as its booting up. Even then, the phone will only stay on for 30 seconds or so once it boots. I've read of people fixing this by simply throwing the phone on the ground, but is there a better way to fix this? What could be the problem?
Edit: I think I may try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235435&highlight=bootloop
It could be a weak connection on the mobo somewhere.
Edit 2: Yep! I re-soldered the connection around the power button on the back of the motherboard and the phone is working. Got it reset and now I'm running it without the second power button thing in the case.

[Q] Water damage, stuck in bootloop.

Hello,
So the phone fell from a small height into a toilet today but didn't turn off. Instead it rebooted and now it is stuck in a bootloop, reaching the end of the boot animation and beginning again.
I can't reach the recovery or bootloader. Holding down the bottom button and the power button stalls the bootloop but only produces a black screen for a few seconds before it loops again. Holding the power button just restarts the loop.
I tried plugging it into a pc and checking if it was listed under "adb devices" while it was looping but got no joy.
The thing is sitting in rice while I hunt for some silica gel packets. So on the plus side I have invented flashing rice.
Have I missed anything or do I just have to hope something changes as it dries out?
Thanks.
You should have been drying it out first before trying anything ...
But hopefully it'll dry out and it'll be fine. Tell us how things will turn out.

I was a bit perplexed really, the phone wouldn't turn off so I was looking to make it power off so I could leave it to dry in peace. I felt like it was doing all the damage it would do since it was already on :/
Still in boot loop.

I think if it s still in boot loop that s not so bad... It s still alive.
I would be you, I would put it without case in a box full of rice during at least 24h. It would help to dry it. It would have been better just after the incident but maybe it s not too late. Good luck...

Drying methods
The good news is that water repellant treatment is applied to most Motorola phones. Even so, small droplets of water sitting on surfaces can cause problems both immediately and longer term (through oxidation). Thorough drying out only possible through evaporation (immersion in rice WILL NOT work with these sealed units, as it's a contact desiccant, which works by capillary absorption of water molecules that it physically touches).
So: power off immediately after retrieving from water; remove back to expose as much of the interior as possible; remove SIM card. Then keep the phone in a warm place overnight (eg airing cupboard). Leave for 24 hrs; then attempt re-activation.
Dropped my Moto G gen 1 phone into water yesterday, took it out within a couple of seconds. It seemed ok, then went into repeated boot loops. Opened it up, no visible water inside (prob because of water repellant treatment).
Followed steps above , and after 24 hrs the boot loops ended and it is now working fine.
Good luck !
A similar thing happened to a moto e, it wasn't dropped or anything but it was stuck in an infinite reboot loop.
I took it to the moto service center and they fixed it by doing a "power charge", at least thats what he called it.
No idea what it means. He connected it to a laptop and voila!, it booted.
Hi,
I am stuck in the same problem. My motog 1st gen fell into the toilet day before yesterday. I took it out within 10 seconds I guess. Tried to switch it off, but it was stuck in the boot up loop and didn't switch off. So I tried using a dryer to absorb all the moisture first and then put it in a airtight bag full of rice and waited for the battery to drain for the phone to shut down. It laid there for 30 hours like that.
After that I tried charging it and checking if it works but its still in bootloop.
Please suggest what to do.

[Q] Can't boot anymore

Hi guys
I'm in need of some help. Due to extreme weather conditions here in my country I have a problem with my OPO.
I was on my bike when it started raining extremely. I was soaked under 3 seconds and stopped under a bridge for a second, took out my OPO and I noticed it acted a bit strange. Then I noticed the powerbutton didn't do anything at all anymore. I hold the powerbutton for 20 seconds and then it turned of and it made a weird boiling/static noise for a few seconds. When I turned it back on it goes into cyanogen recovery automaticely. When I tap 'reboot system now' it reboots and goes into recovery again. I don't really know what to do now ...
Anyone have an idea? I thought about a factory reset via cyanogen recovery but I'm not sure if it's just a boot loop or actually the water that makes it boot into recovery.
Help really would be appreciated!
Greetings
bump..
It's the water that's the problem. You really shouldn't have even attempted to power the thing on again, doing so while it's wet allows short circuits to occur. The right thing to do would have been to put it in a zip lock bag full of rice for three days and then try to power it on. I'd suggest you do that now, don't be tempted to remove it before three days is up.

fastboot and recovery are ok
does device switch off automatically in fastboot mode ?
I think problem is battery discharged completely and it is not charging
Phone dropped ≠ bricked, it seems more like phone dropped = phone damaged.

thanks for the observation.
try to reflash full fastboot rom....
and I dropped mine from waist high twice, and its flipped mid-air high enough before thudded on concrete.... slipped thru my hand...
first time landed on screen-down - second time it landed on its back....
lucky there's no damage at all....
Hi,
I have the same problem, but the phone is charging normally...
Phone fell from about 30 cm (with screen to the floor) and turned off. Since then I'm unable to turn it on. I have mi logo, then mi logo with android sign, I feel a vibration and screen turns black. Buttons are flashing for about 10-20 seconds and phone turns off.
I'm unable to flash it with miflash (it's locked and even the global/chinese rom doesn't suit). I tried with wipe and chinese pc suite, but nothing helps.
Edit: OK, it was charging normally I think, but for now it's stuck on 59% and doesn't charge at all...

No, I don't have one. But my firmware doesn't support deep flashing anymore.
Hard brick
Hi,
After installing EU.Rom, my MI5s Plus turned into hard brick. Nothing works anymore. It does show in device manager, but that´s it. Also not noticed in MI Flash Tool.
In CMD (ADB and Fastboot) it says "device not attached". I have read about Deep Flash, but have no idea how to use this or where to buy it.
Can anyone help me out here? Thanks a lot.
