My camera lens got worse lately and I believe that I messed up the original Olephobic coating on the lens with some Alcohol I use to clean my phone. Really sad that the phone produces blurry images and I resorted to ultimately cleaning off the original olephobic coating with regular Colgate toothpaste(the white one) just to restore the clean and clear lens for producing nice pictures. My only worry now is that since it doesn't have any olephobic coating now, it is more prone to scratches and fingerprints.

Wouldn't be better to just use a case?

I would think not, it would make no difference in terms of lens resistance to scratches . Just that it would be more prone to fingerprints and you'd end up cleaning it more often which would lead to more scratches.

hi,
iv'e tried today to remove the cover lens and there's is a big difference at least for landscape photos (so i just need to remember not to put the phone with same pocket as the keys)

Tempered Glass question.. (continuing usage of slightly damaged protector)

Hey guys, just a general question about tempered glass protectors, is it generally okay to keep a slightly cracked tempered glass protector on a device? There are layers above and below the actual glass correct?
In the picture is a Zerolemon Tempered Glass protector on my tablet, however I also have tempered glass on my nexus 5, so I'd like to know for possible future reference. Thanks!

I'm just slightly concerned about the slightly cracked protector coming in contact with the actual screen. I checked the other side and the bottom layer where the adhesive is and it seems normal and not damaged, same with the top most layer.

It could scratch if it was loose and rubbing up against the screen, but I can't see any other issues myself. That said, I'm hardly an authority on this
i had a MIME tempered glass screen protector that cracked from the ear piece hole... used it for months, the cracks grew bigger, eventually i got a new one from them. when i removed it, it was perfect underneath
The new one i have also cracked it from a small drop, and i am sure it will be fine underneath

Best Skins Ever Naked Matte Skin

This is a wet installation, with a water/soap solution. The solution allows to reposition the skin while it dries, but it can also be a bit messy. Also, because it still moves for about 10 minutes until it properly adheres, you eventually find yourself without any place to hold on to the device to get all sides are skinned.
Being a clear skin also poses the additional challenge of making sure not to leave the tiniest dust particles underneath. The manufacturer should provide one of those sticky dust removers that come with most plastic skin protectors.
The matte finish has a similar feel to the raw metal, but a bit grippier, which is good. The only visible change is the camera visor, which also becomes matte. I'm digging the new look, though. [emoji1]
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the result. From a distance, you can barely tell it's there, and it should provide some scratch protection without covering the beautiful aluminum of the phone.
Here are some more shots

Are the angled sides covered by the skin? Camera area? Anything not covered that probably should be?

If you mean the chamfered edges, no they are not covered. The back and the sides are separate pieces, and they leave the chamfered edges as a gap between them. Also, the thin metal stripe above the camera visor in uncoverd, contrary to most popular skins like Dbrand and Slickwraps

Did you order the full body set? Did you not use all the side pieces eteched out to peel and use on the sides?

Yes I ordered the full body set, and used all the pieces, but the chamfered edges are not covered, that's just how the skin is designed

Looks good. I've got a skinomi skin on mine which is glossy. I may give the matte finish a try. It should look good on my graphite.

Devilcase Lens Protector

Xperia Z5 lens cover is made of plastic and is easily scratched as shown in this Z5 Premium scratch test video: https://youtu.be/X4mORf5BhzQ
I have found this Devilcase Lens Protector: http://www.lazada.com.ph/sony-xperia-z5-amp-z5-compact-devilcase-lens-protector-2939009.html
Sample installation can be seen here: https://vimeo.com/127572598
Since our lens cover is practically flushed to the back cover, I feel the need to protect it. I will be placing an order for this one. I'll try to compare if image quality will be affected. Is anyone else using this?
Update 1:
What's in the box:
- (3) laser-cut lens protector
- Tweezer
- Cleaning cloth
- Dust-cleaning paper(sticker)
- Anti-slip pad

Findings:
Honestly, I can't notice any image quality degradation. I haven't tried image comparisons yet because afaik it's visually the same with or without the lens protector. I only have one spare lens protector left (got clumsy and lost one), so I don't wanna do further test like scratch-test, etc. For me, it's definitely worth it and a must-have. [emoji106]
Update 2:
Here's the specification for the lens protector:

I used nilkin lens protector with my old Z3 . and yes image quality is dropping around 30% .
so now I never use lens protector for my Z5 Premium.

Its a good thing to have mostly if you don't use phone case. =)
Is the material the same as the one used on screen protectors?
From the video it seems that material is made from polycarbonate and after it was applied on iPhone, lens doesn't look as pristine as the lens itself.
I might need that installed as i frequently go outdoor and requires additional protection against lens scratches.
I have bought one of these since I see it, before I had a Z1 and the lens get scratched, it was impossible to take photos with low light because the light looks so blurry, so I bought these, so far I didn't notice drop in the quality of the photos, I highly recommend this product

I use Ringke casing but like all other cases, the lens is still very prone to a lot of hostiles due to the case opening at the lens area. With or without a case, this 'missing' protection is a necessity.

The best Note 7 case but could it scratch the rear glass ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SENNmR4M-o
I have had the Note 4 LED flip case for almost 2 years and it is amazing.
I will definitely be getting this one for Note 7 too.
One thing I wonder, could the case part scratch the rear glass on the phone ? I think it is made out of plastic so I am worried about the back getting scratched due to dust/sand that gets in between.
Perhaps leave the original plastic on the back or get a Dbrand skin ?

No thanks I'd rather have the LED flip cover case.
Never liked anything else for Note 4 and don't like anything else for Note 7 either.

It's just a thin body skin, you shouldn't have any problems with any case fitting over it.
Regardless, keeping things clean is key:
The Gorilla Glass 5 is tougher than Gorilla Glass 4,but,a LOT more prone to scratching.
It apparently only rates 3H on the hardness scale before scratching, barely beating out plastic.
A test hit the tech sites earlier today,a YouTube video shows the results.......

I agree. A full body skin protects the back and sides of the phone. I use the IQ shield. It will not add thickness or interfere with nfc / wireless charging / cases. Im using both of these with no issue.

There's no case that will protect from scratch on the rear. Neither slap a back screen protector on, or consider Dbrand or Slickwrap. My S7 edge got scratched because of this.
I have the spigen wallet case on my s7e for over 6 months with no issues at the back of my glass!
There's a similar leather wallet case for the Note 7 and cause it's Spigen, quality would be excellent!

Screen protector on rear Camera of Honor 8

Hi all,
I've recently purchased a Honor 8 and started using it, I have a front screen protector with case on it, but one thing I'm a bit worried about probably because it's new is the rear camera being so exposed/flat.
I have a few spare screen protectors, will it harm my phone/camera if I cut a screen protector in half and apply it over the top half of my phone (just above fingerprint sensor to top of phone (camera))?
Many thanks.
It will not harm your camera, but I think applying a protector on the camera will decrease the quality of the pictures.
Can you test the difference of quality with/without screen protector on the camera lens and share your experience ?
I have a screen protector over my rear camera lenses which I had cut from a spare Galaxy S3 screen protector I had. What I did since my device is in a protected case was to cut a piece large enough to cover the camera lens and apply to said areas and then put I to the phone case. It has not impaired the quality of my photos.
Just make sure surface is free from grease and dirt and when applied no air bubbles over the main area of the camera lens..

Without screen protector on rear
As it's a brand new phone, it has just been factory reset, those pictures have been taken without any tweaking of settings.
I'd say there is a considerable difference in colour and sharpness at the least.
That doesn't bother me with the small change of photo quality IMHO...
Any others care to share their views here? What would you do, sacrifice the picture quality for protection of the rear camera lens, or do you think it is safe enough?
I'm coming from a HTC One M9, and one of the key reasons I went for the Honor 8 was for the Camera and as you can see above, it's great picture quality.
Personally, after doing the comparison I'd really like to leave it off.
Also, isn't the screen protectors more prone to dust, smudges, fingerprints, oil ect..

I think the picture without screen protector is a little more sharp. Moreover I agree that the screensaver will get scratches and figerprints. With a proper case ( for example a silicon case you can find on ebay ), the lenses are not touching if you lay the phone on a flat surface. So i guess you don't risk much : I mean, even if the lenses eventually get small scratches, the quality would still be better than with a screensaver.
