Hi all,
I've recently purchased a Honor 8 and started using it, I have a front screen protector with case on it, but one thing I'm a bit worried about probably because it's new is the rear camera being so exposed/flat.
I have a few spare screen protectors, will it harm my phone/camera if I cut a screen protector in half and apply it over the top half of my phone (just above fingerprint sensor to top of phone (camera))?
Many thanks.
It will not harm your camera, but I think applying a protector on the camera will decrease the quality of the pictures.
Can you test the difference of quality with/without screen protector on the camera lens and share your experience ?
I have a screen protector over my rear camera lenses which I had cut from a spare Galaxy S3 screen protector I had. What I did since my device is in a protected case was to cut a piece large enough to cover the camera lens and apply to said areas and then put I to the phone case. It has not impaired the quality of my photos.
Just make sure surface is free from grease and dirt and when applied no air bubbles over the main area of the camera lens..

Without screen protector on rear
As it's a brand new phone, it has just been factory reset, those pictures have been taken without any tweaking of settings.
I'd say there is a considerable difference in colour and sharpness at the least.
That doesn't bother me with the small change of photo quality IMHO...
Any others care to share their views here? What would you do, sacrifice the picture quality for protection of the rear camera lens, or do you think it is safe enough?
I'm coming from a HTC One M9, and one of the key reasons I went for the Honor 8 was for the Camera and as you can see above, it's great picture quality.
Personally, after doing the comparison I'd really like to leave it off.
Also, isn't the screen protectors more prone to dust, smudges, fingerprints, oil ect..

I think the picture without screen protector is a little more sharp. Moreover I agree that the screensaver will get scratches and figerprints. With a proper case ( for example a silicon case you can find on ebay ), the lenses are not touching if you lay the phone on a flat surface. So i guess you don't risk much : I mean, even if the lenses eventually get small scratches, the quality would still be better than with a screensaver.

I posted this on Amazon but thought I would also share it here. This forum has been a great resource for me. I also think my issues would apply to the clear version of the same brand.
I mistakenly ordered the anti glare screen protector when I intended to order the clear version. This was completely my fault and it is in no way reflected in my rating of this product. Having said that, if you are not specifically looking for an anti glare screen protector, then avoid this one.
The anti glare treatment really takes a lot away from using the device in every lighting situation, the colors are much more muted and the overall visual qualities of the phone are reduced considerably. Additionally, the texture of the screen protector is downright annoying, I can hear every movement of my finger, it feels like swiping on notebook paper. Again this is just my opinion and I didn't intend to order this product, so the disadvantages of the anti glare screen are just for your information.
The main reason for my low rating is that this screen protector is not shaped specifically for the Sensation 4G, and doesn't cover the entire screen of the phone. Basically this protector only covers the actual viewing area of the screen, and not the action buttons below or the logo area above the screen.
My problem here is that Cleartouch didn't even try to cover the whole glass, this protector is just a rectangle you slap in the middlle of the screen. It's not going to protect the outer edges or the home/menu/back keys. Combined with the inferior display quality, it just makes an otherwise slick-looking phone look terrible.
The second major issue relates to the curved screen. Even though this screen protector sits in the middle of the phone, the edges do overlap into the curved part of the screen enough to cause the protector to not stick to the sides, I keep having to re-press the protector down. I give it a week before an edge gets snagged on my pocket and pulls the whole protector off. You can see it here:

Unfortunately I will have to wait for a new screen protector to arrive before I can replace this one. I will not order the crystal version of this protector because of the two issues I mentioned above. I am going to give Skinomi a shot this time.
Positive points would be the included lint-free polishing cloth and card applicator. Both come in handly and especially considering how inexpensive this protector is they are both nice additions to the package.
I WAS a repeat Cleartouch customer, I had this brand screen protector on my G1 and my G2 phones, and both were high quality and custom cut for the phones, its the main reason I didn't think twice about ordering the Sensation 4G version. Oh well... I hope the Skinomi is better, it looks promising.

Hi all just thought i would give a small review on the SGP Spigen Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, to help any one out there make a decision if this would be good or not for them.
Contents
2 screen protectors
1 squegee
1 cloth
So ill go through the main points:
*Price : I paid $19.95 on eBay ( Australian prices ) this for me was not a large price to pay as ive used their products before and i know the quality that comes with them and what you get for your money. (two screen protectors )
*Ease of install : I found it super easy to install ive done it many time before... but if you guys need help this link will help.
*Once its on how does it fit? : fits great with 2 mm clearance around the front ear speaker and camera also it does not go down the sides... i liked the fact that it did not go down the curved sides because on my gs3 the screen protector would lift on the edge and then dirt would get underneath and make it look really bad.
*How does it feel? : the nexus 4 screen is the smoothest screen I have ever touched so naturally when I put the screen protector on that smoothness decreased not by much but I do feel a small grab every now and then when I my hands perspire or get clammy. Ive also noticed a small grab from the edge of the screen protector when swiping from the side ( but this was to be expexted ).
Other then that feel great.
*How does it look ? : clear , no rainbow , no blue tint , and no deformed spots or dust particles stuck in the screen protector as some cheaper once I had found have.
This is also not a matt screen protector so when in the sun it does mirror a little, but not to much more then what it was without the screen protector.
Another note is you do notice the sides of the screen protector because they dont go all the way to the sides but i would rather this then what i mentioned before.
so now for pics

You miss the main point..
how is the oil resisting ability of it?
I have not had any issues with it collecting oil or greese on the screen protector. Sorry sort of missed that part. None issue so I forgot to mention it.

I bought one of these and it was the hardest time I've ever had installing a screen protector. It is just barely wider than the screen so there is no room for error, and once I got it to match up with the screen, it was a little over the edge so it was lifting. I ended up just getting frustrated with it and going naked.

*Intro*
I've seen my fair share of glass screen protectors, ranging from my Galaxy S2 protector from Spigen (2011~) to a super cheap $3 glass screen protector on Amazon for my girlfriend's iPhone, which came cracked and felt really cheap and shoddy overall (branding, packaging). I figured I'd go for something more mid-ranged for my Galaxy S5 and wound up choosing the Movaluate 7 glass screen protector.
*Contents & Packaging*
The screen protector came in a heavy card stock enclosure, backed by a solid piece of cardboard, which was all wrapped by the main outer sleeve. Although it wasn't as sophisticated in construction as some of the other protectors I've seen (Spigen, Tech Armor), it seemed to do the job well enough. The outer sleeve was quite attractive with a matte/glossy contrast and holographic accents.
Along with the screen protector came a microfiber cloth, and dust removal stickers. No home button this time, presumably for the fingerprint ID feature.
*Installation*
Installing glass protectors for the most part is easy due to their rigid nature—just align with the home button and then slowly guide/lower it into place. Nothing fancy like suction cups or hinging tape here. The adhesive applied without any fuss, and any bubbles disappeared in less than 15 minutes.
I typically install my screen protectors in my home bathroom after running a hot shower (to pull the dust out of the air), but I applied this one at work so there were some specks of dust but they are imperceptible with the S5 turned on, and negligible with the display off.
*Fit, Finish & Feel*
For it's $15.99 price tag, it can definitely compete with the best of the screen protectors out there. Although it is a relatively thicker at 0.4mm, I prefer this for its better durability and impact protection. The screen protector covers the display perfectly, edge-to-edge and the cutouts for the speaker grill and home button are both cut to very precise tolerances
One of my biggest gripes with PET and other plastic film-based screen protectors is there feel. They are usually either too tacky, or just don't feel as good as the stock display. The Movaluate screen protector feels just as good as the stock display if not better—buttery smooth and resists fingerprints and smudges.
*Final thoughts*
I should also mention that the optical clarity is spot on and that the edges are comfortably rounded, making them compatible with most cases. Overall, very satisfied with the product. Time will tell regarding it's durability but based on its well manufactured appearance, I believe it will perform well.
You can buy them from their Amazon shop or on their website which has some interesting videos as well
Hope this review helps you make a good choice for your Galaxy S5!

Yes I agree. I have one of their covers for my iPhone 5 soon to be left to the side collecting dust. I got one for my S5 but received it cracked in the mail. So in the process of getting a replacement. Their CS is sort of slow. So let's see what happens.
Xperia Z5 lens cover is made of plastic and is easily scratched as shown in this Z5 Premium scratch test video: https://youtu.be/X4mORf5BhzQ
I have found this Devilcase Lens Protector: http://www.lazada.com.ph/sony-xperia-z5-amp-z5-compact-devilcase-lens-protector-2939009.html
Sample installation can be seen here: https://vimeo.com/127572598
Since our lens cover is practically flushed to the back cover, I feel the need to protect it. I will be placing an order for this one. I'll try to compare if image quality will be affected. Is anyone else using this?
Update 1:
What's in the box:

Findings:
Honestly, I can't notice any image quality degradation. I haven't tried image comparisons yet because afaik it's visually the same with or without the lens protector. I only have one spare lens protector left (got clumsy and lost one), so I don't wanna do further test like scratch-test, etc. For me, it's definitely worth it and a must-have. [emoji106]

Here's the specification for the lens protector:

Its a good thing to have mostly if you don't use phone case. =)
Is the material the same as the one used on screen protectors?
From the video it seems that material is made from polycarbonate and after it was applied on iPhone, lens doesn't look as pristine as the lens itself.
I might need that installed as i frequently go outdoor and requires additional protection against lens scratches.
I have bought one of these since I see it, before I had a Z1 and the lens get scratched, it was impossible to take photos with low light because the light looks so blurry, so I bought these, so far I didn't notice drop in the quality of the photos, I highly recommend this product

I use Ringke casing but like all other cases, the lens is still very prone to a lot of hostiles due to the case opening at the lens area. With or without a case, this 'missing' protection is a necessity.

the devil case lens protector seems no to be available i Germany. Anyone knows how to get it here? Thanks
I just finished applying the amFilm screen protector and even if it might scare a bit to have so many accessories just to properly install a screen protector, it is not... instructions are easy to follow and the results are amazing for the price.
I purchased mine after looking for a good screen protector, since the screen protector I installed when purchased started to detach, the edges were not fully covered or at least aligned to it, some of the glue was on the speaker and I had to carefully remove it, anyways, this job was supposed to be made by a seller with experience. So with that bad experience I started looking for a screen protector replacement, first I started to look at the one everyone was talking about, (yes, that one, the expensive one) and then I looked at others including amFilm, but the thing is that most of them had fake reviews or unrelated reviews even 2016, so I started to discard most of them since I really wanted to protect my investment, so my choices were either amFilm or whitestone. I decided amFilm for 2 reasons: it's reasonably cheaper, and it came with this metal weight to thin out the liquid glue before curating, let me review this 2 factors
Price: whitestone at the moment of this review costs 50USD down from 60 usd on the 1 pack item, I purchased this one as a 2 pack purchase (one spare for future use or if you mess up when applying the first one) for 40USD with no discount
Metal weight: whitestone does not come with it, it made it clear for me the reason, the previous screen protector I had (the one installed at the moment of purchase) messed up my ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, I had a 15% rate success with it, it was frustrating, so it made it clear for me that this weight would be used for thinning the glue prior to curation which would interfere with my ultrasonic reader. at the moment of writing this review I had easily a 95% or more success rate with it and I use it's related apps easily.
Extra point for it's case friendly feature (at least with the OtterBox Commuter Series fits like a charm)
So those were the pros, but this wouldn't be a review without it's cons
Both the amFilm and withestone come with a hole for the frontal camera. I feel a bit down about this since my 2 best options had this and some others had the full screen protection even with the frontal camera included. This will lead dust accumulation on the screen edge around the camera or even worse scratches on that area due to regular use (no matter which gorilla glass it comes with, it will eventually wear out to scratches).
Also I would include absorption pads on the lower end of the device where I found some the residual glue, I could clean it anyways.
As conclusion for this price I'm happy with my purchase and I'd wish amFilm to take into account the full screen protection (including the front facing camera) so at least that part will not pickup dust or get scratched from everyday usage inside my pocket.
Let me share the end results (pics taken with a samsung J8)

Most screen protectors come with a cutout for the front camera - even the factory Samsung one.
I'd personally rather have dust vollection around the camera than another layer that could cause distortion. LOL, then again, I don't think I've ever used the front camera for anything other than facial recognition. I don't do the, what I consider childish, selfie thing.
Anyone else using this TGSP? Seems like the best alternative to Whitestone at the moment (tried and it was terrible).
the FPS is meh even with this its better then the whitestone for sure. I decided to just go no protector
Where can I buy it? Links please ?
