I bought my wife an XT1039 a couple of days ago to replace her aging Galaxy Nexus but it's started exhibiting a strange issue whereby it's clicking items of its own accord, resulting in all kinds of weird behaviour. I found a single thread about it on Reddit where people were suggesting to use a different charger but that's all that Google could come up with.
Any chance this is a known issue that can be fixed in software? A new kernel maybe? Hoping I can avoid returning it and having to reinstall everything all over again!
Thanks for any advice.
I have also seen a charger cause such issues. Also update to 4.4.4 if you can.

Wouldn't be such an issue if it actually came with a charger. It's on 4.4.4 already so I think I'll take it back. Now to find out if it's possible to re-lock the bootloader...

I was hoping 4.4.4 would solve the issue; obviously not. I think it's to do with the phones sensitivity to certain voltage / current. Any brand name / semi-decent charger should be fine. I have only seen it happen with a cheap generic usb cable.
You can't undo bootloader unlock. OEM relock is only superficial and Motorola will know immediately if you have ever unlocked the bootloader.
As a last ditch attempt before returning it I installed the latest CM11 nightly, and while it's too late to know for sure whether it's helped, it's so far so good. And this is after an overnight charge using the same charger as before.
Just to be clear, the issue I experience was only while usb cable was connected.

This seemed to manifest after a charge (though it might have been during too). That said CM11 does appear to have fixed it. It's been a few days now with no issues.
Bumping just to keep anyone lurking in the loop. The issue reappeared after a day or so, so I wiped, reinstalled stock and attempted to relock the bootloader. One part wouldn't flash properly (ironically, I think it was the bootloader itself) so I couldn't actually lock it. Instead I just flashed over the warning message with a Powered by Google splash screen and took it back to Tesco. The guy there was happy to exchange it and the new one has been absolutely fine.
Hi guys!
I bought one of those LG G Flex 2 H950 @ US$249 on eBay from Qualitycellz. However, my unit seems to have some issues...
It does not matter what I am doing on my phone, does not matter whether I am using a SIM-card or not (I tried the phone with and without Sim-Card), my phone keeps rebooting on various situations, meaning that there is no pattern or logic on those restarts. Usually I am just casually using my LG G Flex 2 and bang, the phone restarts. I can't find any meaning at all. I have looked it up but I could not find anyone with a similar issue, nor a solution.
What makes it even more crazy is the fact that I have tried numerous factory resets, as well as installing a new ROM! (I have installed the H950PR 5.1.1 ROM over the 5.0.2 AT&T one), however the phone is still not working properly. I could swear the problem was the ROM, but it looks like it is not.
What can I do about it?! I live overseas so returning the phone to get a new one is not an option, and warranty for LG is not international :crying:
Thank you and best regards.
The phone has a hardware defect most likely. I had this problem with my G2 a few months after I purchased it. Regardless of temp or ROM the phone would reboot all the time.

I see. And how did you solve the problem in the end?
If this is really a hardware problem, I am helpless, I guess...since I am not in the United States right now.

It was never resolved, actually got worse ha-ha. Sometime in Aug or July it stopped going into the OS so I started disassembling it out of frustration. Also linked the wrong post.

Exact same issue
I also bought an lg g flex 2 from ebay user qualitycellz. I also do not live in the US. My phone started doing these resets and it got to the point at which it gave up and just wont start... (It tries and tries again until i plug it in or it runs out of charge). There seems to be something dodgy with the seller and I will be emailing him regarding the issue.
Chiming in here, same issue, same ebay seller. Any updates from you guys?

Same issue here. To turn device back on I have to hit the power and the volume down. If I upgrade to marshmallow will it fix the issue?
My phone reboots when i use 4G, i now only use 3G to avoid any problem, but that's annoying
To bump my previous post, I talked to LG, they claimed a motherboard problem and will be replacing it under warranty.
Same problem here

I too had this same problem for past 2 month's.It all started with the mobile restarting randomly ..2 days ago it stopped to boot up at all.:crying:
It just keeps bootlopping on the LG screen .turns off and again LG.
When I try to use it plugged in ,it works a but slower than normal.
I think it is a hardware issue.maybe with the battery?Guess only ?
Anyone here has a solution ?I am currently outside us .:crying:
I have the same issue with my Flex -2 purchased from same seller last year August.
I also bought an lg g flex 2 from ebay user qualitycellz. I also do not live in the US. My phone started doing these resets for last 4 days. It tries and tries again until i plug it in and press power button. If I disconnect from the wall, it stopped working. But since yesterday it got to the point at which it gave up and just wont start. I see only the LG screen flashing. If I press the power buton

You'll have to send it in. It's a hardware bootloop problem. Only LG can fix it unfortunately.

Solved
I have changed battery. No more problem with randomly reboot.
Lg flex 2 restarting problem
I tried a lot of things but now i am sure this is a battery problem ,i noticed that when i charge my phone to 100 percent it started normally so every time i charge it all the way to 100 percent it works and when i dont it just restarts so you have 2 options to replace the battery or charge your phone fully every time
Hope this one helped
My G flex 2 also started doing the same. Seller was also the same qualitycellz from ebay.
My flex2 also started random reboots. Once mainboard was changed because there was bootloop issue, but now its a bit different. Also a bit over one year with a new board.. Maybe the reason of it is battery because its quite old. well, I need to wipe it clean just in case.

Haha... Your story is exactly as mine. The random rebooting got worse for me over the span of a week and now it reboots after a second of staring up. So it's basically bricked.:crying:
Hi
Just got my U12+ today. I've noticed that quite often if I unlock the phone by fingerprint, it shows the home screen but the screen is totally unresponsive. I can't click/touch anything.
It remains unresponsive, even if the screen times out (1min later) and then I reunlock.
The only way to fix it is to use the power button to switch off the screen and then it will work immediately afterwards when I unlock.
I have done multiple restarts, and 1 hard reset and it is still happening.
Any thoughts on what is causing/how to fix?
UPDATE:
I've spent quite a few hours googling and testing different setting options, and the issue seems to only occur when "Smart Display" is turned on.
If the Smart Display is on (either motion or always on) gets engaged, if I then unlock via Fingerprint, it shows the home screen, but the touch screen is totally unresponsive. It doesn't register any taps/touches (I turned on Dev options).
Is this a hardware or software issue? Anyone else experience this?
Thanks

Phone model and current software build.
Are you rooted? Any root based mods, kernel, room, etc.
Hi
Thanks
U12+ running 1.21.454.3
Totally stock. Only got the phone on Saturday.
Did one hard reset and issue still there.
In usage since my last update, it is 100% related to the Smart Display. Absolutely no issues when it is turned off. When I enable Smart Display, then it starts freezing again on unlock.
Hi,
I'm having the same problem too..
I got my set on the 15/09/18, Hong Kong Set.
Mine is currently on 1.25.708.3. But prior to the update, I am already having the same problem described by leginag.
I even tried to do a factory reset but the problem still surface. It will become unresponsive after waking up after a period of screen off (not sure how many minutes).
After turning off Smart Display ( thanks leginag!) , I'm able to use it flawlessly. I was about to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom though..
I think this problem is quite disruptive, especially when a call comes in, or when launching the camera app through the edge sense. I can only snap using the squeeze.
Nonetheless, I hope there are other alternatives to Smart Display though..
Hi, I've been having the same issue. Thanks for looking into it hopefully it gets fixed in the next update.

I hope it does get fixed. I reported it to HTC and they said they would forward it to their engineers. That was 2+ weeks ago, and nothing else heard back.
Best thing for you to do may be to submit a support ticket to HTC. If everyone who has the issues sends it in, this will flag it with their engineers that it is a wider problem.
Could you let us know your model/firmware?

I have contacted HTC and am awaiting a reply. My current software version is 1.25.708.3
Thanks.
Hoping this issue is software related. So far, only people with Asia models have reported it (only 3, but at least I'm not going crazy by myself!)
ASIA HK - x2
ASIA JP - x1
Got a response from HTC, saying it is a software issue and should be fixed in next update - around mid-October.
Today, I got information about that this issue will be solve by software update.
Moreover, it is arranged on around middle of October.

Thank you for this. I just got my u12+ and thought it was faulty.
Turned off smart display.
I'm having this problem as well, Asia HK.
Curious, is anyone also having problems with TWRP? I almost always get a nonresponsive screen when fastboot booting.
Just a heads up that the 1.30 update has fixed the issue for me.
Which is a relief. Not that I was missing using Smart Display, but just feel better not having an issues with my phone
Hi there,
I am using Asia HK and have the same problem with you.
But I still didnt receive any update patch for 1.30. May I ask which area did your phone belong to?

I've had this issue twice, once on 1.25 and once on 1.30 so I do not think it is fixed yet but it has been very rare for me. Only twice since the phone launched but it is very inconvenient when it happens. I could only fix mine with a reboot.
Removing my original reply as I don't believe it relates to this bug after all!
(A Factory Reset sorted out my device, incidentally)
Hi
After the December update the touch is not working
The phone freezes, but the screen works, but if I reboot, the problem goes away and returns after a short period
but if I go back to the November version, the problem goes away. Is there a solution?
This video has the same problem as mine
Doesn't happen for me, December working just as well as November in all aspects.

Yes, I understood your issue. I'm simply saying it doesn't apply to me and the vast majority of others.
Have you updated to December then performed a full factory reset?

Yes, the bootloader has also been unlocked
I have the same. The screen only responds to a very firm touch time to time but then it starts working again normally
I actually noticed something similar. At certain times and sections of the panel, it doesn't register a touch. Turning off and on the display, it goes back to normal. It was a clean installation too. I'll keep observing and see if it keeps happening. Worst-case scenario, maybe it's a faulty device (the touch maybe has some issues).

In fact, it was a touch problem after the update also, which I did not mention, and it is pressing randomly on the keyboard
I am sure that my phone does not have any problem, but from the update
Because when I go back to the November issue, all the problems go away
I found someone who has the same problem as me and the same
Pixel 7 Pro Random Freezing - Google Pixel Community
My Pixel 7 Pro has started to randomly shut down every so often. Completely out of the blue, the screen will just go black and I need to long-press the power button to turn it back on. This started happening a couple of days ago. No idea why.
I don't know if there's any correlation, but this started happening after the December update.
Is anyone else seeing this, too? Any thoughts on what could cause this and how to remedy it?
Thanks!

No, but I know who can fix it for free, because it's a brand new phone that's still under warranty...

Have you backed up to Google one and done by a reset?
A reset might solve your problem?
I've read on GitHub that it's an issue with the 5g hand over to LTE on the T-Mobile network.. I had the same issue until I switch to use LTE and it's not shut off since. Hopefully Google is aware and it gets fixed

The december beta had this problem so it might apply to the stable one as well, I suggest you update to the stable january build.

If they're based on the december build it might be due to the kernel (the december build had some issues), since I updated to the january build I did not have any other random reboot.

I'd suggest to do a full factory reset while flashing all partitions, that's what I did and I don't have this issue anymore, otherwise it could very well be a hardware issue, but doing a full wipe is worth a try.

I did do a full factory reset before flashing.. I was surprised to still have the shutdown issue as well since it must be a hardware issue then.. but it's so weird that a hardware issue would just randomly surface without dropping the device or anything at all..? Or could it be that the January Stable Build still has the software issue? I'll reach out to Support tomorrow.. for now I'm going to try putting it in my pocket with the screen facing up and not towards my leg and seeing if that makes a difference.
I didn't have this issue, i updated to the January patch and everything was ok, now today my phone started to shutting down tl not sure what is going on
I have the same problem since yesterday. Every time I block the phone and put it in my pocket, the next time I get it it's turned off. I'm sure the pocket isn't pressing any button, but it keeps powering off. I bought it on launch day and I had 0 problems with it until now.
EDIT: Updated applications since yesterday (22 of January): Google, IFTTT and my bank application.
EDIT2: I've just tested to use it on Safe Mode, and I got the same behaviour. I suspect it must be some screen or screen sensor problem... of maybe It has something to do with the fingerprint sensor.
EDIT3: After triple-checking (my phone was in the December update) it finally has updated to the January one. I'll update with more feedback after update.
I changed to only LTE and for some time it was not shutting down. Since pixel pro doesn't have a cache partition like others phones i opened the "files app from Google" and i cleaned the junk files , i rebooted the phone and since then i have no issues at all. Maybe is a coincidence but it's working for some days without shutting down

I had the same issue on the december beta, after wiping the device fully and flashing the january stable this issue disappeared; some users also reported this on GrapheneOS on previous Pixels so I just think it's a bug that went unnoticed.
I started having this issue after the February 5th Update. After reading through this thread it got me into thinking. I couldn't reproduce the issue into safe mode, I uninstalled new 3rd party apps and that didn't fix it. However, disabling the flip to shhh setting did! So disabling the sensor for when your phone is placed upside down to silence the phone seems to have resolved the problem for me. Let me know if this fixes it for others.
So same problem here, random shut downs while in my pocket, long press to power up, temperature check and no over heating. After a couple of chat sessions with FI support which were worthless, finally spoke to Google support and they seemed to be convinced that there is a problem, I think they know. They agreed to a replacement and awaiting a new phone from Google, we shall see.
