Need clarifications on Market install procedure:
1. Calls for using "AndRootFile." I go to site to DL and it asks what phone to get right apk. Got no stinkin' phone. What do I put in? Or where can I get the apk for G-Tablet?
2. Procedure call for mounting R/W and making sure to make R/O when finished. How?
3. Guide for ADB setup at the end. Does that have to be done manually or do the files above take care of the changes? Or does the DL usb file replace the stock file?
4. i have had Gmail for a long time. Is anything other than a Gmail signon needed to set up market and the other apps?
Thanks for any help.

1. There won't be a version of androot specifically for the G tab. Just find an androot apk and install it.
2. Refers to read/write, and read only. Once androot is installed it will have a selection allowing for you to be a Superuser, and to set r/w, or ro.
3. ADB is setup manually. It is run from a command line. The USB driver gets installed by hooking up your G tab by usb, don't mount it from the G tab though. Then run the driver program in windows to install the driver.
4. Yes, once it is all installed your Gmail login will do it all. There is a market fix that will need to be done also as the market will be really incomplete. The fix is easy...
5. I know you didn't have a 5, and you will think I am beating a dead horse. If you were to just install TnTLite2.2 all the work is done, your G tab will scream, and you will be done...

I have thought of going ahead and flashing -- and yes I know that solves some problems. But aside from being conservative hardware wise:
1. My biggest objection to flashing is that there is no real way back to stock. Vanilla is not factory if I understand right. And I'm not sure cwm lets you make a restorable factory image. If I knew I could restore a factory image, it would make playing a little easier for me.
2. I'm not new to computers or OSes, but I am new to Android. There is a certain learning advantage in doing the various procedures -- the negative being that that makes me have to ask people like you for the little details I need.
3. Screaming is relative. Compared to my PDA and my netbook, my G already screams. And none of them scream compared to my gaming machine which is probably in the top 10 per cent speed-wise. So screaming would only make a little difference for me.
4. And then there the projected Dec. 19 update. I realize that VS has missed the boat several times in all of this, but it would be tooooooooo sweet if they incorporated a lot of the fixes and ideas voiced here into the update and make a stock machine even better.
5. Since you quit at five I will too. I really would like to have a $279 G-Tablet to play with, but I like in the country and even the nearby large city doesn't have either enough Sears or tech enthusiasts for me to get that lucky. If I had a second one, I could play a little more since I wouldn't necessary have to keep it working so I could use it.

Well I do understand why you want to do things the way you do. And just in case you may have not seen it. You can go all the way back to original by using NVFlash and the original images made way back a whole month ago. (Seems longer than that). I have done it a couple times while messing around with things that didn't work. Here is a little something I wrote up about how to do it..

Number two is nothing except that I am pretty independent and usually I am the one doing the helping -- and I just dislike bothering other people for basic info.
One of my dislikes about the G-Tablet and Android is that there are not many really good "user" books available. Lots of Android programming books, but none that just tell how it works and what to do for common tasks, etc. And what can I say about the G-Tablet manual. It does a credible job of describing the hardware, but I wish they had a few chapters on basic operation.
Well, I guess some of this is just griping so I'll shut up.

I think androot is the same. The supported list is likely just stuff they have tested it with. I usually use Root Explorer myself. Androot is free, Root Explorer costs a couple dollars but is easier to use, and more capable. I also use a file manager named Es File Explorer. It is free in the market and once you get the hang of how it works it can be used on the lan to move stuff between your pc and tablet, extract zip files, etc.
I don't know if there will ever be a good manual for Android. From what I can tell it is kind of a free for all out there. Does not seem there are very many real solid standards but there sure are a lot of variations.
I think most of the hardware for sale now is not really made by any of the companies with there name on it. The G tablet is sold by 3-4 different companies, just named differently. Seems they are at the mercy, and so are we of how well they can communicate what they want fixed to a company in another country. I wish there was a company that built a tablet in house that was open with the customers. Would sure make bug fixes, and feature changes easier. As it stands, they are happy to sell whatever they get.

You can close this thread as far as I am concerned. I worked with adapting a stock machine until I simply got tired of it. I have converted to TnT 2.20 at this time and am pleased so far. I will write more about the experience when I have time.

Maybe we can help. I have several theories regarding people that are are having issues.
1. People do not read or do not understand what they are reading regarding instructions. This has happened to me, so I am not calling people out.
2. Restoring apps and settings from Google. This is a cool feature concept wise, but I believe google has created more problems by allowing people to restore apps and settings across different versions of android.
3. Titanium backup. Same issue as above. I personally love the program, but it has limitations. I believe many are restoring data and in some cases system info from previous roms.
4. Defective batteries. I firmly believe that screen of death while charging is a battery issue.
5. Pushing their hardware beyond its stable limits. It is fun to rack up big scores on benchmarks, but it can lead to instability. Not all hardware is created equal.
For those that have ongoing issues, I would love to help. I am not guru and I am constantly learning new things, but many of us can help with the basics.
When you ask a question, please let us know what rom you are using and what baseband you are using. Let us know what you have tried to correct your issues. The more info you provide, the better chance you will receive an answer that corrects the issue.
Like many, I am tired of seeing the same old questions again and again, but many of those people are new to android or the G2x and so I encourage patience. We need to help our fellow G2x users and make this forum the envy of the board.
I am relying on my fellow xda members to chip in and help those with major issues. I know this happens already, but lets step it up a notch.

been around since the g1 and pretty savvy (no coding) but hacking/flashing/fixing/troubleshooting is my forte.

This is my first smartphone. Gave up my company provided BB for an honest to goodness smartphone. I don't think I have a "bad" G2X but I don't think I have a perfect one either. Probably on par with what 90% of others have I'd guess. I get occasional reboots, have had to pull the battery a time or two. Nothing more drastic than what I had to do with any BB.
I really don't get the hate for this phone (I do see a bunch of lazies that don't know how to; A: READ, B: Follow instruction), but conversely I don't get the adoration either. What makes it so great? I see "ZOMG SOOOO FAST" comments all the time. I don't find it blazing fast (maybe because it's my first?) but it's not slow (minus the occasional slow-down).
I must say I'm looking forward to an official ICS. Hopefully an honest to goodness dual-core OS that our devs can further improve upon.
G2X=Good Phone.

Something I found to improve the speed of the interface is Spare Parts. It does not change benchmarks, but makes the phone feel much more responsive. Set all the animations to fast in the options.
The problem here is that there really are defective g2x's out there. A small portion of the problems could undoubtedly be user error or as you say. But the vast majority of the original issues were because of defective phones. Period.
I got multiples bad ones. I finally got a refurbed one that was awesome. Then when I broke the screen on that one recently, my (brand new) replacement has performed PERFECTLY as well.
I did nothing different on any of them. Nothing. (Although I have not rooted this new one...it's got the updated oftware).
But it's purrrfect!
This is why I'm now mostly a lurker here. I've nothing to complain about. I love this phone. And I also got a Sensation. Didn't like it as much and sold it.

hey ickster. I know what you are saying. I was just hoping to address some the the current problems and present a list of things I know caused me issues. I exchanged my first phone purchased the day of release because of reboots. At this point I think a lot of the issues are user error. I actually have 4 G2x's. My wife and I each have one and I gave a pair away to my two best employees. All four are running flawlessly now after some tweaking. Day after day of thread after thread about problems that can probably be rectified with a few simple steps was making me nuts.
I just want to make this forum the best I can. Maybe I am going about it in the wrong manner. I thought I would give it a shot.

I've NEVER seen google restore any of my data. Not one iota. I don't think the feature was there when I had the G1 or MyTouch 3G. On my Vibrant, I always ticked the box hoping I'd at least get my wifi passwords, but alas no.
Titanium backup works fine, as long as you don't try to migrate system data. I've NEVER had an issue with it. I even do move data for News and Weather app which "counts" as system data, as well as Wifi passwords, because I have way too danged many of them NOT to move it. As far as moving user apps/data, have never had any issues other than market items not attaching properly.

Maybe. I was having screen of death using MIUI, and when I switched back to an LG build it went away.

CERTAINLY. This is the biggest issue. Undervolted kernels, overclocked kernels, etc. When I had my Vibrant, it couldn't handle even the slightest hint of an overclock without issues. And, of course, the issues wouldn't show up right away, so it was easy to hope it wasn't due to the overclock. But it was. It could undervolt all day long, however. Other phones of the same make were just the opposite. Dunno about the G2X, but that's why manufacturers set things as conservatively as they do -- to take into account the variances in the manufacturing process. Those variances can be a benefit to the crafty, but you can never DEPEND on it to not introduce instability.

I'm curious how many of those with ongoing issues are running the old baseband. I have the July baseband, and always have as I just bought my phone. But if someone who was rooted before the official LG update never got the baseband update, that could be an issue.

Still learning the G2X ecosystem. A few differences from the Vibrant, and a much quieter forum overall. Strangely for a US only released phone, lots of posters from outside the US. Not sure why?
Some of the repeated "over and over" questions have to do with lack of a good all-in-one FAQ I think. There's a thread that lists a few key threads, but some aren't on it, and some info just isn't presented super clearly. No offense to Mr. Clown (the moderator that maintains the FAQ thread), but there's just a lot of info you can't get from that thread that really should be there. For the "one and only, don't ask" sticky, it's not the best. How could it be, when the moderator that maintains it doesn't even have a G2X? It's merely a list of links suggested by forum members, and there's no experience shared there that's helpful to newbies.
There's not even an XDA wiki on this phone that I can find... Maybe that would help -- I might be talked into contributing to that.
The majority of problems with the phone at launch were related to a badly programmed OS by LG. The GB update fixed almost all of the related problems. I have minimal screen bleed that can only be seen in a dark room. I can live with that.
Awesome Post, I bought my g2x the day it came april 20, 11 and i never had any problems posted in xda developers beside the backlit bleeding around the corners which is not really a big issue for me. It is really an awesome device. I use hdmi to watch my netflix movies or even to play games on my hdtv, everything performs flawlessly and the battery last a day in moderate use and 2 days in slight use. I think thats pretty good for a dual core smartphone. The only thing i am not happy is the support it got from lg. The gingerbread update took away awesome camera app and the signal bars didnt work according to the connectivity. I think the gingerbread build was incomplete. Waiting for the ICS on my g2x. I get a unexpected reboot probably once in 2 weeks or some which is mainly because of the extensive multitasking and lack of ram, i know 512 is not less however the hd games and livewallpapers consumes huge lot of ram. so those seldom unexpected reboot does make sense as i never switch off my divice. I think it is still an awesome device. The tegra really has some potential, you can play shadowgun to figure out the gpu capability of g2x.

@OP I agree with the principle behind what you said, but isn't that exaclty what this whole xda forum is about in the first place, users helping each other out? I'm not trying to put your idea down, but just saying its nothing new really. Maybe I misunderstood what you said and if so, then my apologies.
The problem you identified in #1 is exactly correct -- people don't read or don't understand what they read. They get ahead of themselves and start doing stuff to their phones without understanding the potential consequences if something goes wrong. Then they freak out and instead of searching for a solution to their own problem they just post a new thread saying "ZOMG!!!! Plz help!!! Plz!!!!!!!!!!!!" I've read several threads like that and then found the answer to their question literally 2 threads down.
Anyway, I'm starting to digress. You make a very good point and ideally people will read and follow. Sadly, and realistically, they wont.

Alright so let me start off by saying that I have never had so much hell rooting and putting a custom Rom onto a phone. I am also a bit disappointed in xda as non of the articles were of much help, they were all broken up and I ran into trouble at literally every step. The easiest part was rooting the phone with ioroot, but finding it actually wasn't that easy because most of the tutorials I found from the start kept having me use other methods and none of them worked.
Second once I performed this step and had everything installed I realized that in order to use my wifi hotspot, I was going to need a custom rom. this was of course after trying dozens of worthless hotspot apps in the store, none of which worked. So I started trying to put a custom recovery on the phone, this was by far the hardest part, I tried and scoured the internet for 3 days, I swear to god I read every article and tried every method out there....the new ATT LG G2's however have a lock on the recovery to prevent people from doing this, I found it strange that none of these articles written based on 4.4.2 thought to mention that an exploit has not yet been found. Finally I ran across an article where I learned of this and was told to downgrade, so I downloaded SuperSport & big fau LG G2 D800 Flash stock. Thinking that this rom was going to unlock the recovery because it said it would, I ran through the process.
This however, was not the case and it didn't help, the whole time I was convinced that this had unlocked my recovery, I continued to try every tutorial on installing a recovery onto this device, the AT&T LG G2 kitkat 4.4.2 (D80020c), which btw is a week old from the date of this post. I like a lot of other people, will have this phone and be looking to unlock, root, install custom recovery, and install custom rom. For this I would like to figure out a few things and hopefully if y'all help me figure this out, I can include fixes for it in the next article that I write, which will explain how I successfully put a custom rom on my AT&T from start to finish. I will also include in this article what could go wrong and how to fix it, too many articles are written without taking into consideration the possibilities of what could go wrong.
It took me three solid days of scouring the internet to get a custom Rom on my phone, running through problems at every step I still have a few questions. After downgrading from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 my recovery was broke, thankfully I was able to fix this using flashify in the app store. I then installed Cyanogen Mod 10 (cm-10.2.0-d802.zip). and installed it through recovery, when I rebooted I was presented with a fastboot which would do crap when I would plug the usb into my computer...I never figured out what the problem was for this, but I ended up trying a version of CM 10 which was released for the LG G2 D80010d that I downgraded too, the tethering doesn't work...no big deal, but the problem is when I set WiFi hotspot up and connect, on my computer I get SSL error's, my computer completely refuses to let my connect to facebook or google, saying that the connection is insecure, it won't let me grab any kind of certificate and I can't find a solution online. I have tried rebooting both the computer and phone, I don't get these errors on the WiFi at the gas station.
In the above paragraph, I stated the two problems I couldn't really figure out, I haven't tried to install any other custom roms, but I will try that today, I have to save my bandwidth on my phone so I will walk down to the truck stop and download one, ps I had to flash my phone back to stock about 5 times before I finally figured out I needed to downgrade it, then I had to do it 2 more times.

well first I want to clarify you on that week old part especially since we have had kitkat on d800 since about feb 27 in fact if you look at garys thread about kk with custom recovery which is originally from march 6(on 5th we figured out what needed to be done but on 6th they began rolling out) and also if you would have asked for assistance I could have helped to find all needed info on rooting and everything (I just don't spend a lot of time in the dedicated d800 thread) anyways as for 20c I've been on it since root was available(also on first day of release of 20c) and have been running garys rom since it was released and I love it but if you want tethering(I know a way to enable you just need a paid app) and there are already threads on doing things from start to finish http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2633150

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like a ****. I just had a really hard time finding a complete walkthrough on this, I ended up taking bits and pieces from different tutorials and it seemed that most of them only covered one aspect of the process, like recovery, or if they covered the whole walkthrough they would either leave something out or I would recieve errors, such as the loki error, and the original adb not detecting my device. I had to download an adb from an alternative source because the official adb wouldn't detect my device, after trying everything but it didn't bother me because I figured it out and thanks for your response, really appreciated, I will check that out....How many mods have you tried and what features do you like about them? I liked the ideal of the CM 11 for the 4.4.2 because it boasted the porting of pretty much every feature that comes on the LG G2 4.4.2...Like the double tap to unlock and such....I will check out Gary's mod and see what it offers, thanks again
I would just like to start out by saying congrats on getting your device to where you've wanted it - I do agree that the G2 is a special case right now considering the lack of development and spotty information available for development.
With that being said...
There is a really good reason why the site was named XDA-"Developers" and not XDA-"Newbs". The primary focus of these forums is for the purpose of developers engaging one another and sharing their discoveries with the community. There are some really great developers here that take a LOT of their own PERSONAL time to create the stunning softwares, hacks, themes, etc. that often ultimately get freely distributed to the public. Take note that 99% of these threads start off with "Use my software and instructions with NO expectation of support or warranty" or "Flash at your own risk".
These folks give so much to the community and often ask for little or nothing in return. While the information right now is pretty sparse and scattered, do you think you could have achieved what you did without it? The mere fact that you have a custom ROM, root and recovery is a testament to the hard work of the folks here who are giving their own time up in the name of furthering development. Our G2s, while stellar devices, are the outliers in the world right now because they are not in the hands of the masses. How many people have looked at you and asked "is that the new Galaxy??" I believe in time, someone with way more time and Android know-how than I, will deliver something mind-blowing to the XDA community for this device. Just be patient and realize that the majority of Smartphone users right now have a GNote, S4, or HTC something-or-another.
Finally, re-read your post and try to hear the tone you delivered. You sound upset that the XDA community hasn't delivered you an easy root/recovery package on a silver platter with all the trimmings. Again - this forum is for developers. What they choose to share with the rest of us as non-developers is totally up to them. They also tend to share more when the support they receive is positive. Long rants about your disappointment in the community over how you had a hard time getting what you wanted on your device - well you catch more flies with honey...
Cliffs notes? Hug a developer, and say thank you for what you've managed to accomplish with your device. Without the info posted around here, we'd all be living with stock ROMs and unrooted, bland G2s. If you are unhappy with your own personal experiences with getting to where you are right now... Well, you obviously know where the "new post" button is. Become a contributor, tell us how YOU did it and give back to the community. If you only rant about your disappointments, then you aren't really making anything better for anyone around here - in fact it only serves to clutter up an already fragmented knowledge base.
From one long winded poster to another - good luck in your ventures with the G2. It has served me well so far and I believe it will continue to do so for quite a while.

If tethering is all you wanted. I would have done it the easy way. You can unlock WiFi tether by trying to turn it on, then when it fails use sqlite editor from the market to go in and change the provisioning status to 0 in the database file. Sqlite costs 2 bucks, it would be worth that to not have to go through all that. I never thought I would own a phone without a custom Rom, but so far I'm still stock on the lg g2 it's that good. Most annoyances can be fixed as long you have root.

For me this was the easiest phone to root and flash recovery. Used ioroot for root and freegee to install custom recovery. That's when I was using jelly bean now I'm on stock kit Kat

I bought my SM-G900V less than two weeks ago, and though I'm relatively technical, I had no prior experience with smart phones. Yet it didn't take long for the annoyances provided by Verizon's "enhancements" to drive me to learn how to make my phone more like I wanted it to be.
Thanks to the hard work from the developers, as well as the generous sharing of tips and hard-won knowledge on workable techniques from many good people, a newbie like myself could get past the substantial technical hurdles - as well as the fear of destroying my new device.
The people of this site (and to a lesser extent, a few others) allowed me to move from being completely ignorant about modern mobile phones (and nearly paralyzed from apprehension over the unknown risks) to having enough insight and confidence where I felt comfortable enough to take the risks - including potentially having to purchase a replacement. After reading and re-reading many things that you all have written, I had more than "a clue," and went for it.
And as I rooted my device, I was well prepared for almost everything that happened each step of the way (the only thing that surprised me was the "Android is upgrading, optimizing app" message for each of the 471 apps on my phone (!?!), after each flash of a kernel - though this was probably explained in a section that I didn't read well enough).
I've purchased paid-copies of the related tools and more, I intend to make a donation on geohot's towelroot site, and I'll try to do the same for this site - when I find out how.
But that doesn't affect most of you, so to you please accept my gratitude, and sincere thanks - Thank You!
PS: I was very surprised to find my battery usage had gotten much worse in the hours following this. Starting around 2:40 am and lasting a bit over one hour, the charge went from 87% to 65% - even though the screen was off and I was asleep! Turns out it was mostly due to one app: "Support & Protection" - appears to be another gift from Verizon...

Summary:
1. Install Towel Root
2. Download G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 from this OP
3. Odin flash NCG Stock Kernel
4. Reboot phone
5. Root with Towel Root
6. Reboot to Download Mode
7. Odin flash (Extract Tar from Zip before you flash) NK2 Kernel
8. Install Superuser from Market if you have not already (You can do this during step 1 as well
9. Open Superuser and It should request to update binary - Choose Normal (DO NOT CHOSE TWRP)
10. Done

anyways, I'm already 2 roms in, currently running optimal rom on oc4 firmware with the adb debloater at first boot. despite all my optimization, my battery life isn't as good as I'd hoped.

"Update to Android O" – 31 pages and counting…
"Unable to sync gmail contacts properly" – 18 pages and counting…
"Re: P2 - Notification Problem!" – 4 pages and counting…
And that doesn’t include all the other threads relating to these subject, there and on other sites.
Lenovo, or more specifically, the people at Lenovo should be ashamed. Not because they have created something with defects, no-one/nothing is perfect, but because they aren’t willing (or able) to come out and admit it. It would save a great deal of time, effort and possibly money, if someone in a position we could trust would just state, in writing, that –
There won’t be any security or operating software updates for the P2.
There will be/is no software/settings fix for the lack of notification and/or contacts sync.
Software changes are fairly cheap and simple (if anything relating to modern tech could be described as such) whereas hardware is not.
Just admit that, embarrassing as it may be, the P2 is flawed.
Promise your P2 customers that you’ve made changes to the way you do things and that (hopefully) it won’t happen again.
Thank those same customers for buying the P2 in the first place and apologize that you’ve let them down. Maybe then, some of those customers (and new ones) might buy Lenovo products.
Or is it too much to acknowledge that Motorola could do it but they couldn’t?
Or are they too worried that Google, not wanting to be linked with the bugs, will end their agreement to allow them to use Android?
On paper, the P2 is a great piece of kit, that’s why I bought one. However, if all I wanted was something to make and receive calls and to send and receive texts (plus a few extras), I’d still be using my 5310 with its replaceable battery. If I could afford to, I’d buy something else now but, safe to say, when I can, it won’t be a Lenovo, or a Motorola, just in case they get infected by association. Maybe a Google phone, you’d think that they would know how the software and hardware will work together, and I’ll get updates.
I clearly understand why you're fed up with it. Lenovo does really nearly to nothing to support the P2.
In my case, I knew from the get to that I would reflash my phone with a custom rom since stock never came close to them. In any case.
I have used stock AOSP on this phone as well, bugless, fast and stable.
Custom rom can have bugs as well but they are fixable or at least not noticeable. Not all of them though.

Another option to add to the list and something (as a newcomer to Android and mobile phone modding) I'm having to learn and it's a pretty steep learning curve.
After going round in ever decreasing circles until I very nearly disappeared up my own orifice over the last few months, I decided to do nothing and to just put up with things as they are. For every post that says what they did helped, there is another saying it didn’t work for them and for every updated OS there is one asking how to get back to Stock MM.
Stock ROMs, Rooting, 7, 7.1.2, 8, 8.1…the options seem endless and scary! If someone else bricks you phone, at least you can blame them but if you bring the misery on yourself…
You say you used a stock AOSP, If you don't mind, could you say which one and how you did it (with any snags you came across). You also note that there are still some bugs. What are they? If I can live with them instead of the ones I’ve got, I certainly consider doing it.
For first time you can't go wrong with the official LineageOS. Just go to their website and check the wiki, it has a comprehensive guide for flashing from the beginning and it will be fine if you follow it.

Apologies for being so hesitant but having never done it before, it's a big, scary step (where have I heard that before...oh, yes...). You used the word "official", there are lots of LineageOS for the Lenovo P2 but no mention of "official", is one of the nightly builds okay to use?

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend los 14.1
Use a Oreo rom by subham or firelord.
