I just got my Nexus 5 and I haven't root it yet. I notice that everytime I don't use my phone 5-10 minutes or hours, the signal will be lost and asking to reboot my phone. I can't tell when it's up or not. Sometime I take multiple reboot to get signal back up then it happens again and again. Is there a way to fix this problem without rooting? I don't think it's the Sim Card because I used it on my nexus 4 without any problem. or Just my device isn't good one. Please help!

I didn't root my phone yet, and I'm running 4.4.2 now. It's annoying to keep losing signal and it's back again. Even I have signal, I only have 1 bar compare to my old Nexus 4 has 3 bar or HTC one full bar.
I don't want to root it if its not solve this problem, I will have to return it.
There was an issue on 4.4 where it would randomly give you the "emergency only" message. You would have to turn on airplane mode and then turn it off, or reboot. But people have been saying it was fixed with 4.4.1/4.4.2.

The radio however sucks in 4.4.2 and was better in 4.4.1
perhaps we may see 4.4.3 to fix this?

I think it might be overall worse, but luckily I actually didn't see any decrease in signal in my area. I was really worried about it because I already have really bad signal in my house but 4.4.2 doesn't seem to be worse for me.
You guys forget to mention that Google cheaped out on the antenna to cut costs. Best you can do is to flash your carrier's radio over the generic one

I'm sorry, but you're dead wrong. SO much misinformation here. First off, there is no "carrier" or "generic" baseband. There is only one baseband. Second, antenna design requires a lot of engineering to maximize signal efficiency when you're dealing with interference from such things as wifi, nfc, Bluetooth, metal construction in the phone, etc.. I'm not sure what magical material you think that cell antennas should be made of that will solve issues?
I just got off of the phone with Sprint. They show that there is an internal memo on the issue and LG is aware of it. They will be pushing an update as soon as it's ready. Sprint will also be pushing an update for the Airave to help with the issue. The support rep told me that it is an issue where the wifi and LTE radios aren't playing nicely together and causing a conflict. That's why everything seems to work fine when 3G is set as a preferred network.
It's an issue that still hasn't gotten fix as seen here.

The issue seem to be gone after couple days. I checked signal strength app, it shows same even though it shows only 1 bar.
Hi all,
I've had this great phone MT7-L09 (softare version L09V100R001C00B127) since last December. My problem is that every now and then the 4g cuts off for a period of ten seconds.
It does not matter how strong the signal is nor which or whatever app I'm using. It just loses network. First thing I did was to change the old sim card to a new one. Did not help.
I was in contact with the Huawei support and conclusion was to send phone to service. OK. It came back with the same problem altough they changed the circuit board...so obviously they though that this would solve the problem. I did not. After messing around with it, trying to find if someone else was suffering with the same problem, with no luck, I send it back to service. Now they said that there is nothing wrong with it, but the problem is still there.
I havent noticed anything cut offs using 3g. It's not a major thing but it would be nice to know if its a firmware or any other software related problem.
If I use Netflix or similar where the data keeps coming it works just fine or if I use the phone as Wi-Fi hotspot, no problems.
It just loses network connection using apps like play store, facebook, whatsapp, twitter, every browser ie. firefox, build in browser, chrome, to name a few.
Should I just keep using it as it is or keep sending it back to service until they fix this issue???
Thanks

Sorry...one stupid question: have you already tried keeping the phone completely stock (without any application and/or software or any kin dof personalisation) for a couple of week and see if the problem still exists?
It really seems to me a software problem. Very strange.
I had the same problem with my MT7-TL10 golden version. For a week or so, the network used to come and go. Then ultimately the sim was not recognized at all. I sent it to Huawei service center and they told me that the sim slot is broken and I had to pay for replacement of the board which I refused. I was sure that I didn't break it. Now I am using my phone with one sim only.

I haven't used it only with stock apps for a week maybe a day, but first thing when it came back from service for the first time, I did not install any apps and it still lost the connection anyway...

I'm not sure, but isn't the sim card slot located on the circuit board??? If it is, it cannot be the problem, but I must try the second slot anyhow.

To fix this problem is to go to networks and u have to restore your apn to default it like refreshes then you can either just turn off data and then on and restart phone

Does not work, same problem after a numerous resettings. If I may add, I've have couple of other phones of which this problem does not occur.
In same place and conditions these phones work just fine not losing the data connection. Sure, if 4g is not available they use 3g, but never ever will the connection break off.

faulty 4G module tuner.. phone ... replacement needed...
change preferred network
Go to settings and -->mobile networks-->>preferred network and select "WCDMA only"..
It will fix your problem..
There is no such option in my phone settings, only the option to choose automatic 4g3g2g or automatic 3g2g or 2g, 3g only and 2g only. As previously stated no data loss nor connectivity issues using 3g. It's bit annoying sometimes when phone loses data connection altogether although signal is very strong. Just waiting lollipop upgrade if it'd solve the problem, I doubt it but...
network operator..
I think it's network problem..please contact your network operator..4g network have connection problem from some local area signal towers..so you just put other network company SIM card in your local area..(use 4g supported SIM only)
Thanks for your advice, but I don't think that it's SIM card problem because there is no problem what so ever using my other phone SGS5.
sorry

Thanks, I totally missed your comment...this is turning out to be quite a puzzle. I've noticed the less battery (<60%) I've have on the phone there seems to be nothing wrong with the 4g connection. ???
To answer to myself, I was too optimistic...nothing to do with battery. It's just so weird that phone works like a charm most of time and then suddenly not. I'm confused...
Now on the newest firmware lollipop 5.1 it fixed my lte problem
same issue
I bought mate 7 a couple of days ago and I keep losing the data connection. the network gets connected and lost again.
i did everything to fix it but no luck. changed sim, restored device, modified APN and no luck.
it keeps disconnecting seems that it is a problem with the phone itself as i have read the same issue on a couple of forums..
hope it is a software issue and get fixed soon as this is annoying.
In service they replaced my phone to a new one mostly because of this problem and I can say it did not help at all. Only upgrading to lollipop will fix the problem ( tested on beta) I'm on b145 now and it does that all the time. I guess it is carrier based problem not SIM nor hardware.

Have you thought about the phone may be defect?
The one s I used to have, did this once in a blue moon. Gave it to my friend to replace his ancient HTC desire and its been starting to do it more frequently. He's had it at least a year now.
Would like to know if anyone else figures out a solution as its his only phone and he has an elderly mother nearby. If I can't sort it out I'll be helping him find a new phone.

Reading the internet i came out with few solutions:
1. Try to get new SIM if this one is little old (because in new update of lollipop sony enabled new frequency band)
2. Try to make few reboots of phone (few people reported this to work)
3. Try to turn on and off airplane mode couple of times (few people reported this to work)
4. Try to download APN and Internet settings
5. Try mannualy choose carirer in settings, if dosent work try to set to GSM only (also few of them reported this to work)

3.I don't have a GSM only option and It doesn't let me choose manually it just stays on a searching screen because I have no way of changing it from automatic to manual
I believe it is something to with the voice radio and data radio being off is there anyway to turn it on?

No I haven't dropped my phone but about a month ago my front screen corner has begun peel up because of the adhesive coming off and then the vibration stopped working so maybe something got under the screen? I have been searching for this error for more than a month. My xperia z3 got this problem when i put it on water. After that my xperia lost signal for a day or two, then it recover the signal for a week. It didnt show any problems after two weeks of use.
Then the error came back, after a reset factory, switching airplane mode and all kind of stuff, i couldnt solved the problem. I have searched that it doesnt only ocurred in xperia but in any android. The strange thing is that no one has a solution, for real no one. I sent my phone to warranty but sony didnt take care of the problem. So im trying different solutions. The next step for me is to open it and try to figure it out.
Good luck

No Service
I'm having the exact same issue. The issue occurred after taking a photo a few inches below water, only submerged for a few seconds with all flaps secured. When there was no cellular network connection, I turned off the phone and removed SD and SIM card and let it sit for awhile. After a few hours, I turned the phone back on and had no problems until a week later.
After restarting my phone today, I lost all cellular network connection although everything else appears to be fine.
I've tried restarting, hardware reset, new SIM card and safe boot.
I called Sony who advised factory reset which I'm about to try though I doubt it will work. My provider tried steps on their end as well. The liquid indicators are still white so I don't believe water infiltration would cause this issue but who knows.

That is true my bro
This phone gets the worst reception I've ever gotten from any phone going all the way back to the original Nokia. If I didn't have WiFi calling it'd be totally useless.
My first Pixel got significantly better reception then my replacement one, sadly.
So, everyone got the same problem..
Is Google even aware of this issue
Can it be fixed by any modem update or something?
Here's one of the treads on their support site. https://productforums.google.com There's a lot of guessing and this fancy new technology that doesn't work well with some networks could be a cause https://www.qualcomm.com/videos/qualcomm-rf360-dynamic-antenna-matching And there's talk of has something to do with Android N as some on Nexus devices that just upgraded are having problems. I'm leaning toward cheap HTC antennas.

Shall I get my phone replaced? It's still under warranty (11 months more)
Or every phone has the same problem?
If you're still in the timeframe, I'd just get my money back. If not then I'd try a replacement though you'd probably get a refurbished one. I use wifi calling at home and don't have any problems when I'm out and about. But I'm on Verizon in the US so your network may give you more problems. Google has admitted to microphone issues which might be your problem so if you get a replacement I'd be demanding a new phone.
