Edge's home button starts to peel - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys,
I have the edge 4 months, and before 2 weeks ago the home button starts to peel. Its never got dropped or with keys in my pocket. I save it like my baby.
I feel very disappointed about this issue.
I'm curious if it's just me or more people has it?
Thanks

Are you sure its not a film cover on the button?

no for sure.. its peel

Could you provide a picture?

Hi,
A friend of mine had a similar problem -- was it like this: http://i.imgur.com/yS3tVTP.jpg. He sent to Samsung Concierge and they replaced the front piece entirely...

Hi, same as mine. I have micro-looking peel on my phone and it's only been more than a month or so.

Yes, picture please.
This would be totally unacceptable on a £600 phone.

I'm facing the same problem - few days ago I noticed something on the home button .I thought it is some dirt so tried to scratch it gently with my nail . Turned out it's the paint. I really hope that Samsung will replace the button. I got to say the quality of this phone is not adequate to the price .

Well, to change the home button on most Samsung devices, you have to remove the entire front assembly of the device. Once you remove an already applied front assembly with water resistant adhesive, the water resistance is compromised due to the adhesive getting damaged during disassembly. To make the device water resistant again, they need to apply a new front assembly with unused and undamaged adhesive. At least, that's my theory. I welcome any correction.

i have the same problem, my home butten dont click anymore, and i ask'd Samsung over here to repair it and they say its not warranty. the home butten is really crappy for a €800 phone i expected a repair from samsung and they wont do it. only if i pay the full repair. sad...

Half of my home button is peeled off, really wish there was better quality control with these high end devices.

Nice, thank you The only downside is when you use long-touch for screen of, when you want to unlock your phone it will not use your fingerprint, but the sample instead.

Hi,
And does your fingerprint still work? My fingerprint keeps giving me an error "Make sure the fingerprint sensor is clean and dry, then try again".

faulty proximity sensor during call

When I make or answer a call the proximity sensor plays up , when I take the phone away from my ear the screen stays black and doesn't come back on unless I can cover the proximity sensor again, and even that will only work some times.other times I have to press the unlock button to get the screen back on. Any ideas or fixes, anyone else experiencing this ?tried a factory reset.

Flash Stock Firmware and Relock Bootloader and Remove Warning Screen and send the phone to repair if you still have warranty.
I had the same issue with another device, never got rid of that problem, only had ****ty ass workarounds only on Cyanogenmod possible.

might sound daft but, if you have a screen protector is the hole for the sensor in the right place or even there at all?

You're right there's no hole, but I've had other phones and there has been no hole in the protector and it didn't affect it.

Mine was doing it intermittently, when I lifted the protector it was fine. Maybe the sensor is particularly sensitive?

[Q] I can unlock my Nexus 5 through my jeans

So I got my Nexus 5 about 2-3 months ago. I must say it's the best phone I ever had, and i had them all from HTC to Samsung to Xiaomi etc. Nothing compares to Nexus.
Anyway, I found the first thing I don't like about it.
A few weeks ago kept noticing my phone pocket dials, so I enabled pattern lock. No more issues.
After that, yesterday, I was very curious if I am the only one with this issue. So my friend has a G2, which is pretty similar from what I understands.
If I wake the screen, put my phone in my pcket and try to unlock it over the clothes, I can do it super easy.
However, the G2 does not reach to this and my friend doesn't need a pattern unlock.
Is there a way this can be fixed so i don't have to use pattern? I don't like it. Thank you!
This never happend to me. In fact, I don't think it's possible due the fact the touchscreen only registers 'heat' touches(like your fingers).
Try to put a bit of your jeans over your fingers and try to see if the touchscreen responds.
Or you can set-up a harder pin/pattern lock.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Maybe not a proper solution but I have a Nillkin case on mine. Its fairly thin so doesn't make the phone bulky but the buttons are now slightly recessed so I don't push them by mistake. I don't use a screen lock at all most of the time.
I have the same problem, and I also opened the topic here about it a while ago.
I also set up a pattern for unlocking, and it somewhat helps. However, sometimes I see that emergency call dialer is opened when I pick up a phone from my pocket, so the problem still persist. Weird though, I never had similar problems with other touch phones that I had.
Some roms like CM do have an option to prevent accidental wakeups. It uses the proximity sensor to check if the phone is placed in the pocket.
I had the same problem,
To prevent this, I made a tasker pofile I can send you.
It checks if the proximity sensor detects anything on unlock, then relocks the phone immediately and vibrates for a second to let know something happened.
Never had any unwanted unlocks since

The digitiser registers electrical disturbances in its field. This can be caused by any part of the human body no matter what temperature.
It can even be done through thin fabrics. Maybe OP has jeans with very thin inside pockets.
Anyway, there is no way you could easily restrict the distance the field can "project" from the digitiser.

Allright, so i just used my covers, which aren't very thin, and i managed to unlock my phone using screen pattern lol. I just had to press just a little harder and it registered the touch. Weird. I don't mind using the pattern unlock but still ..
I will try that, i was thinking about a case which makes it a lil harder to wake the screen. Thx !
Maybe there's a hole in your pocket and your penis is doing some slide to wake action! ?

I don't wear tight pants, I notice this mostly while cycling body temperature and humidity probably play a role
I had this issue with my S3. I think pin or pattern lock are the only way, but it hits your emergency dialer, too. Hopefully, that tasker profile going to the prox sensor too will work. I don't think there is a way around this as the screens are sensitive. I usually have mine in my jacket pocket, but when I use my pants I can come across things like this. Not really sure we can know why, can't be in the pocket at the same time.
Could be a dodgy power button, I'm going a through a similar process where minimal pressure on the button makes it turn the screen off, hard resets or the power menu appears. I don't want to RMA because I'll only get a refurb which could have more serious issues.

From a friend
So it turns out I did some research and it seems it was some dust trapped on the lens cover inside.. Some how it got in with a waterproofed cased phone.. But the fix was actually tapping the phone on a hard surface a few times and the spot vanished.. Weird but it solved the problem.. Make sure u don't damage your phone tapping it and do it with a hard case at your own risk

Got absolutely the same spot in my daughter's phone. A technician proposed to replace the camera. After I've read above, maybe a cleaning only will work. We'll do it this week.
Ive got the same problem but about 5 specs. I've only had the phone for about 4 months. Ive replaced the rear camera lens glass but thats not got rid of it. The next step is to replace the camera module (£15 on ebay). But I'm worried i'll break the rear cover leading to more expense. It's a shame because its a good phone. None of my smart phones have lasted a year! Something always breaks. I had more joy with a g4 plus camera until my son threw it in the bath. I think Im going to sell this pbyone to someone more confident with repair and buy a Xiaomi from China.
---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:27 PM ----------
I should add that this is shocking quality. A supposedly water proof phone that on launch cost over £500 with the camera as a main selling point. A quick google search will tell you that this issue frequently occurs on s5, s6, s7 etc. I think Samsung are more happy to sell new phones than make phones that last longer than the launch of the next model.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion..i heard about it in some other blog and dint believe it until i saw it here on xda.... Surprisingly this happened with note 8.... And still surprising is the same solution..... Thanks again...
Tapping didn't work for me. I bought a new camera module off of AliExpress for $5. Paid a phone shop $5 to get the back off. Replaced the lens myself. The camera is perfect now. You must make sure the lens is exactly the same down to the colour of the flex and writing on it. The first two I got failed because they were different versions. Some ebay sellers use the wrong photo in their listings.
I had the same problem. Solved it perfectly by holding the phone 60 degrees on a flat surface with a little cloth on it and letting the phone face down drop on the surface. I dropped it face down because my front camera was affected. I had a screen protector and a case + cloth on the table so no damage what so ever. Just drop it. The dust will somehow move. I think this solution is better than digging into the lens and removing it. If the problem persists than take it to a service.
I tried that first and it didn't work. It cost me 10 bucks to replace the lens. Shops have a hot plate so they can remove the back cover easily. With the new lens my camera has far superior image quality. I think it was more than just a bit of dust that was wrong with it. The lens was damaged. Another issue can be the inside of the glass on the back cover gets dirty. Just replacing or cleaning that when the back cover is off made my pictures clearer and stopped the camera over exposing every shot.
Buddy, is it tape it on the camera phone or the whole phone?
Do you mean tap? You could try trapping or shaking the phone to move dust to the side but that didn't work for me. I replaced the camera lens and you should clean the inside of the protective glass on the back cover too.

Physical build quality

Any body having any build issues?
After pink tint - I thought I picked a decent phone.
Just noticed a few times today (having only used the phone lightly for a few hours) that when I pick it up from the middle of the screen I can hear and audible click as if I'm pressing the glass onto the digitizer. Imagine you had a gap between a tempered screen protector and the other screen.
Anyone got similar? I can't bring myself to exchange the phone again but also this is a 2-4 year investment for me! Wondering what issues might occur down the line and if this was something similar on the S7edge. :crying:

have the same with mine - does not feel that great to have such an expensive phone sounding like som cheap plastic phone for 100$
I feel vindicated from feeling like a mad man.
I am going to record the noise and then consider requesting another exchange.
Trouble for me is that I am happy with the screen whiteness/red levels so don't want to jump back into that frying pan.
Do you think it is something from the rear or centre (maybe the battery wrapper) more like what I'm thinking with that adhesion between the digitiser and glass?

Don't get me wrong - I don't drop £800 on a phone I don't really want. But that also means it needs to feel right on.
My concern about the clicky screen issue is in case this is likely to cause problems down the line. Currently since I'm only in by a week I have retailer returns in my locker. After that it will be a PITA having read how Samsung deal with issues.
Has anyone had this on any other Galaxy devices? Did it get worse or better or go away?

Perhaps this is obvious, but I just want to confirm that you are hearing this sound without your case on? I had gotten a clear Spigen Ultra Hybrid case and it clicks like mad because the case ins't perfectly fit to the phone. Same case and the only time my screen makes any noise is when the case is on. Had to take it out just to make sure.
Mine does this as well. Went to Verizon about the issue and noticed the floor models did the same thing. Also they got a brand new one out of the box and it did the same thing as well. So I am not to concerned about it at this point. I did a waterproof test and it's fine.

can oil go through the phone?? plz help asap

guys i installed a screen protector on my phone and it had halo effect on it so I saw a vid on youtube to apply oil on the edges of the screen which helpt
now after a week or two after applying the volume Up button is not working well I have to push hard and after a couple of days now I notice my power button isnt working well I need to also push it hard and not always the fingerprint works, could it be a defect in the panel which holds the buttons or did oil manage to go through and wreck it?
cuz my phone is in warrenty but im afraid to send it and they would find oil in it, so what do you guys think I should do please help asap

If you do a search you will find that others are complaining about their volume up button failing after the Oreo update. I find it hard to believe that the update had anything to do with it. I think it more a coincidence of a possible hardware failure more than a software bug. That being said...I doubt that oil would cause your issue and considering that others are having similar problems I would guess that a hardware failure may be the culprit. Then again...seeing that so many started complaining about the issue after the Oreo upgrade...I suppose there could be a connection.

Can you elaborate on that please? I'm looking to order one of these new screen protectors that require the front of the phone to be drenched in LOCA and I certainly wouldn't want the liquid to find its way into my beloved device.

Well, it depends on the oil, but most have a high creeping ability and displace water.
I can't say anything about LOCA, I personally used a foil protector with water application.

does it make sense if oil made it through to make my right side panel not function properly? i mean volume down works but volume up doesnt and some times power button makes problems...
pushing really hard makes a function but its not legit
is it oil or some thing else?
if its oil, how can I dry it out?

Unfortunately oil doesn't dry out...at least not for a very, very long time.
If oil has penetrated to the interior of your phone and is causing issues like short circuits, then the only remedy I can think of is the phone will have to be disassembled and cleaned out.

I already ordered one of the screen protectors you are talking about. I would not worry about the LOCA because as soon as it is spread out evenly under the protector you will be using the UV light to harden it.
I would say it's more than likely either a driver issue with the Oreo update, or the beginnings of a hardware failure due to manufacturing defects. The reasoning behind that being that 1) others have had the same issue, and do not have the same potential for oil in their phones, so it's unlikely that that is the issue, and 2) Even if oil did get in your phone, oil is not a polar liquid, so the presence of it would not do any immediate damage to your phone in the same way that water would (look up mineral oil PC builds if you don't believe me). I would say for now your best bet is rolling back to Nougat, on the off chance that it is a driver issue, and just being careful with your volume button in the future, on the even smaller chance that Sony decides to acknowledge and fix the problem.
