Loose hinge fix?

so I'm beginning to accept the fact that there's not much I can really do about my loose hinge. the truth is, it doesn't really hinder me in during regular use at all. however, its frustrating that I know it could have been better.
I might be satisfied if there was some case or something that secured the screen when open a bit more. maybe something involving magnets. anybody heard of anything like this? anybody wanna brainstorm on how to improvise it?

Dude... forget about it. If its really that bad... return it. Magnets will ruin the built in compass and god knows what other parts. Bad idea. Its supposed to be floatly. Trust me... its a welcom addition compared to the mytouch slide keyboard. The g2 is pretty smooth and as long as it doesn't fall when you hold it in a normal position, who cares...

bought my G2 on the 6th from Tmo store, mine is pretty solid, not loose at all, upside down, 45 degree angle, the screen doesnt go nowhere, closed or open, if i dont push it, it doesnt move, not even if i forcefully flick it!
im sure you could get a new one from tmobile/htc if it really bothers u, but looking at videos on youtube of the faulty screen, it would sure as hell bother me! good luck!

I'm in the same boat as j.books here. I'm LOVING the phone and while the wiggly hinge isn't an issue in how I use my phone it is just annoying knowing that it could/should have been better. I don't think I'm going to go through the hassle of returning the phone; it runs so well, I'm really afraid to spit in it's eye. :S

I'd contact whoever you got the phone from. If it is terribly loose and wiggly it's either a factory defect, packing fault. Possibly also fault of carrier. Either way if it's that much of an issue you may as well take the time to get to the bottom of it and figure out who to contact for a replacement or where to send your back to get it fixed. It's inconvenient for the user so make that clear when you contact them and demand some compensation.

I called t-mo last week and went to a t-mo store. it wasn't a 'known issue' at that point, and the t-mo store was absolutely worthless in terms of advice. one person was rude, one was nice, but both told me to call customer support, even though I already had.
the more I use the phone, the less of an issue it is. but it still bothers me. esp now that I know some people don't have the loose hinge. my 2 weeks is up on monday so I'm gonna call today and see if I am able to exchange it. problem is, I really don't want to go the whole weekend without it :\

I heard of magnets but I have no idea how they work....

Take it apart, find the springs, and replace them with stronger ones. Other than that, your choices are replace it or live with it. Personally I'd replace the springs since I like to take things apart

Tell me how it goes don't see a G2 dis-assembly vid anywhere around

If you wanted to do this you need self adhesive magnet tape, thinest available less than 1mm or I don't think this mod will help.
Disclaimer. I haven't tried this but am sure it will work.
Cut tape to 2 1/4" x 1/2"
Cut 1/8" wide notch @ 1" to the right of left/rear edge.
Depth of notch [email protected] 1/4" ( the notch is for the small microswitch that senses the phone is closed, this switch also creates the limiting factor of magnet thickness. Bend the hoop upward you say? )
Test fit before you remove the backing ( magnet tape is placed between ribbon cable on left and 3rd hinge on right with notch around the microswitch. )

PS this mod will hold the screen open and closed with no effect in between. I don't think it'll effect the compass because there is already tons of EMI in these devices, also you can recalibrate the compass and since the magnet is static it should compensate. Again good luck! And post pics if anyone is brave enough to attempt.

thanks dude. I was thinking of something like that, but I wasn't sure any magnetic tape would be thin enough. I looked it up and they never seem to specify the thickness, but there are products described as 'extra thin,' such as this: http://www.amazon.com/Extra-Flexible-Adhesive-Magnetic-Dispenser/dp/B000NNQ1CK ...think it would work?

Umm.... yep that looks like it'll do. When you get it stick some on wax paper, flip upside down,get one of those 6" metal "machinist rulers" , do your layout with a sharp pencil,and cut with exacto knife or new utility blade, test fit before removing wax paper(also compass,gps,etc function). Maybe use some cardboard pieces to hold the hinge open, getting the magnet into position will be the hardest part. Good luck and post pics/review.

Do It!!! I would do it myself but I'm actually happy with my hinge and have to many other projects in the pipeline at the moment.

Apart from magnetic tape, we can also consider velcro/hook & loop
just stick a little at the back of the screen and the upper part of the keyboard
not too much to avoid noise/falling hair/forceful push
just the amount that keeps the screen in position anytime will do

LCD screen bleed fix

I don't have a G2X yet, but I wonder if an owner who has some LCD bleed might want to try this out and report any results.
Screen bleed is a pretty common problem across LCD's. I don't think it's so much of a manufacturing defect as it is due to shifting during transport etc. All that has to happen is a corner of the screen gets too far or too close to the back light behind it. The screens tend to shift around a bit in their casing.
A common fix on regular LCD monitors is to massage the area of the bleed with medium or firm pressure. This can move the screen enough to reduce bleed.
Not sure if this would work on a glass-surface device like the G2X but it's probably worth a shot. Also try massaging with pressure *behind* the phone, not just on the front glass.
Ipad 2 seems to be having some bleed issues as well, and some owners report that slight twisting of the entire device corner-to-corner can re-seat the screen in the proper position and reduce bleed. Be careful with this one, but again, might be worth a shot to apply some twisting pressure.
Not recommending that anyone does this who isn't comfortable and ok with the possible consequences! But... as I live in Canada and want a G2X, it would be a lot easier to know that this sort of thing might fix the bleed than it would be to attempt returning it to the USA or an ebay reseller.
Please keep the "ARE YOU CRAZY?!" replies to a minimum... if you don't want to do it then simply don't do it.

I just tried and I will say that the places that I had it originally did not get fixed or seem to be any dimmer than before which would have been nice... My bleeding is not that bad anyway...
However, the first time i twisted the phone a bit i noticed some more bleeding in the upper left of my phone (portrait directional) before i twisted it back to normal...
Good idea, but i would not recommend anything until we have some concrete evidence of it really working to fix ORIGINAL problems

lol this is not a fix and NEVER was a fix... you cant "massage" a LCD tv.... and a phone is no different gorilla glass or not it will NOT reset the screen.... good attempt at trying to find a solution but the bleeding isnt from the screen being out of place... its from poor manufacturing...
some bleeding is expected with LCD technology ... but not as bad as ive seen on some peoples ..... let alone on a 4" screen... but w/e if you have full brightness and are in a dark room then you must be blind.....

I wouldn't do it because you have to disassemble and it may void the warranty; in addition, you may break the LCD if you apply too much force.
If the bleeding/backlight leak is bad, just send it back and exchange.

Yes, you can. I fixed all bleed from my Acer 26" lcd by doing exactly this. I could see and feel the panel noticeably creaking back as I did it.

well i never herd of "massaging" a tv to fix it but i wouldnt do it to my 52" samsung cuz the manual states DO NOT PUSH FIRMLY ON SCREEN WHEN CLEANING so i dunno how it would work without taking it apart and "pushing the screen" back to the right spot...
let alone i got a 3 year warranty from best buy on it.. and if i crack it open AT ALL it voids so no thanks if anyone does this and it works on a phone i will be awed....
AND you shouldnt have to push the screen on ANYTHING to fix it... it should come correctly assembled in the first place....

I tried the massage but it doesn't work. I have very bad light bleeding from the top corners, and if I squeeze hard enough on top and bottom of the phone, it's a little better, but as I release my hands, everything goes back to normal, very bad looking darks colors. I'm exchanging it.

When my LCD screen started bleeding, I just put a bandaid on it

I have heard of this a lot. Massaging the LCD. I too am looking to fix a laptop screen. I heard before to massage the back of it, what side did you do? No one here who was successful mentioned if they did it to the front or back so I figured I'll do as you did? Thanks any help much appreciated!

My iPhone 5 is bleeding, pushed on it gently and it only made the black blotch spread. I don't recommend this

So dust is always a problem. I didn`t do a tear down of my sensation yet.
But to minimize the risk:
1. Do it in your bathroom
2. Close the windows and turn for about 10min your shower on hot (depens on the size of your bath)
3. work with High presure spray in case of dust problems
Hope it helps you. Just in case, you wanna do it. But i can`t give you a guarantee that there isn`t dust anywhere.

It's just a mesh to allow visibility of the LED and to not muffle the front speaker.
Take the back cover off the phone and you'll see the mesh is part of it.
In theory you could remove the entire mesh, in practice you may have to do that rather than removing just a section.

Would be easy to take a section out with a dremel tool or one of those small electric screwdrivers on low speed. Doing it by hand could get ugly.

Lol, I think you meant to post this in the "how to apply a screen protector" thread. He's just taking off the back case and trimming the grill on the ear piece and not going to tear the phone apart. I'd recommend not exposing your phone to this extreme humidity in any situation and especially not if you were really going to rip open the guts of the phone. A few specs of dust won't kill a motherboard (there's most likely already dust or lint inside the phone anyway) but humid conditions can.

So you guys don't think I am being unreasonable? Lol. I'm a bit afraid to remove entire grill but it is true, removing just part of it appears dificult. Did anyone dare to do this yet?

I've had no need too, the bright notification LED is clearly visible through it.

just from an EE point of view that mesh could have been placed there for a reason (maybe a block from EMF) and if u do take it out you could cause the speaker to not function correctly.... if u had an old nokia phone and u replaced the screen with one of the aftermarket ones with out the mesh you'll know what i'm talking about.... but that may not be the case here... that could literrally just be a casing i'm not sure

S7 The back glass is poorly adhered and is lifting on one side. Do i have a fix?

Hey everyone.
I purchased my phone through duty free, unlocked so after checking with local Samsung repair center they told me my warranty is not applicable in the country i live in, because i purchased the phone in duty free. This is not an official Samsung repair center, just a random one authorized by Samsung btw.
Either way, the issue is that the back glass is slightly lifting on one side/ corner. The top right corner (Next to the heart rate sensor) is slightly unstuck from the body, and it creates a tiny little gap, which ends up running down the side of the phone a little.
I have tried finding a solution and no luck. What i want to know is, if i take a heat gun, and give the back glass a blast under the heat gun in order to warm up the glue, and then apply some pressure evenly across the back glass, will that do the trick? Is it even safe to do so ?

It should be safe to do as long as you don't heat it up too much as to cause the internals of the phone to get over-stressed. I would power down your phone and make sure it is cooled before starting the process. You don't want it turned on and then your phone decide that it wants to update 20 apps and cause it to heat up any more than it already is.
Also, be gentle with applying pressure to the glass, if you happened to have dropped it and warped the frame that would explain why the glass is lifting up, and if you press too hard it may break it. Just be careful and you should be fine. It's not a guaranteed fix but it's a safe method to try out.
If you need help on using the heat gun just look online for videos of repairing phone screens, plenty of them use heat guns to get the adhesive loosened up and almost always state what temperature to set it to. I feel like it was around 700°F (370°C) last I looked, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I will try give it a shot over the weekend. The phone is in perfect conditions and has never been dropped. In fact when i press down on the glass, it kinda slots back into place, but then sticks back out, so i'm assuming its un-even adhesive or whatever the case is with it. In reality its such an un-noticeable issue, but you know how it is... once you know its there, that's the only thing you notice
I wonder if anyone else had this issue because i found a YouTuber who actually also had his back glass un-stick from the body

Sorry to hear about your luck. I would think it goes without saying, but it will probably no longer be waterproof.

From my experience doing so does not work. You need to replace the adhesive which is easy to do, what is more difficult is sourcing an OEM one

Screen bleed

Does anyone have screen bleed issues? I'm having a tough time identifying if there are any. Can someone post pictures for reference?

No I don't have any screen bleeding issue.
But if you aren't sure use an all blck wallpaper and if you see whitish tone near the edges your screen is bleeding.

Perhaps a white wallpaper would show any particular screen bleeding than black wallpaper.

I dont need to post pictures, there is rather noticeable bleeding all around the display when using dark wallpaper when brightness is set to more rhan 50% (indoor usage). Especially on top and bottom edge of the display.

You need not apologize sir/ma'am, it's not your fault to begin with.

I am facing an issue that is I am getting a vertical line in the above center of the screen which is only seen when i turn off the screen. It isn't a scratch but it feels like the display is burned or something. I don't know why it is happening. I have cleaned the device but that is not getting rid of it. I am thinking to go to service centre to get a replacement or something. Btw i play pubg alot, maybe it is the reason. But this should not a good sign of every RN7Pro customer !

That's new to me and is quite strange to see. Doesn't look like screen bleed or burn though. Do get it checked at the service centre, and, if possible, enquire from them as to what caused it and keep us updated. Also, playing pubg shouldn't have such drastic effects on a device.

Yeah it's really strange!
I don't know if i will get replacement or what coz i bought this 20 days ago.
Let's see what happen.

I've had a similar issue on my old phone. Either you have been cleaning your screen too much (so much that you have "cleaned" away a part of the oleophobic coating) or you have been playing games too much (sliding your finger along the same part of the screen and your sweat dissolved the oleophobic coating little by little). Try placing a couple of water drops on that part of the screen and also on different part of the screen (where there is no "smudge" ). You'll see a difference in the water drop shape. As far as i know, there is no way to restore factory applied oleophobic coating to its original condition.

I quite agree with you 2nd point of playing game that is pubg as I already mentioned and as you said "sliding your fingers along same part of the screen" Yes, this could be the reason as the joystick is on the left and it's always sliding there and as the device gets heated I get sweat on my thumb. But I have been playing pubg on my recent Note 5 Pro, I never got any sort of smudge. By the way it's not a cheap phone as it has best specs. But I did not expect this issue and yes I have cleaned with water but it's now permanent. I am little worried about the phone as I will go to the service center today to get replacement or whatever they will say. I will let you all know what will be the result.

Unfortunately, no oleophobic coating is perfect as it will wear off every device/surface over time. It depends on how one uses his/hers phone. I can only speculate that since RN5P and RN7P have different screen materials, the oleophobic coating will perform differently on each device. There are also other factors at play. I hope the service centre will give you a replacement unit, but this case scenario falls under "normal wear and tear" category which is, to my knowledge, not considered as a device defect. Anyway, there are some products out there that claim to restore/reapply the oleophobic coating of a screen, but i really doubt their efficacy. I guess you have nothing to loose if you wish to try some out, but even if they work, their efficacy will not be near as good as a factory applied coating. Good luck.

Unfortunately, service center only said that this is the first time that this problem we have faced and said you can only get the new lcd panel inspite of replacing the device.
So now I have to replace the lcd panel and have to wait for 7-10 days with submitting my phone to the service center! Without submitting the device they will not replace the lcd which is sad.

I am facing an issue that is I am getting a vertical line in the above center of the screen which is only seen when i turn off the screen. It isn't a scratch but it feels like the display is burned or something. I don't know why it is happening. I have cleaned the device but that is not getting rid of it. I am thinking to go to service centre to get a replacement or something. Btw i play pubg alot, maybe it is the reason. But this should not a good sign of every RN7Pro customer !

Playing PUBG a lot doesn't cause screen bleeding, lol. You might have physically damaged the phone consciously or not knowingly.

But do you know that I have been using this device since 25 days, thereafter, my device had not felt even once.
Secondly, I use this device with cover that is provided in the mi store worth 349 which is very safe and good cover.
Fortunately, the device was all good when I opened the box and there was no spot, but I have noticed that spot after 15 to 20 days.
I thought that is is nothing just a smudge which can be cleared with a cloth but it doesn't get rid of it.
If I damaged the Device physically then a scratch must be there on the screen where there is a spot, so there is not even a single scratch. By the way if I have damaged it myself then I have to mention that thing in the thread, as I mentioned playing PUBG, because I had a doubt that when I play PUBG daily 3-4 hours the device is heated a lot above the center portion and the place where the spot is as same as the joystick of pubg which is used continuously ! Lastly I had no screen guard on the screen !
