S6 unlocked from US Cellular- NO 4g LTE on new CMDA carrier - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Purchased my phones from US Cellular unlocked. Recently left US Cellular to prepaid company ROK Moble also a cmda carrier The thing is 4G LTE seems to be blocked on all my phones! I was going to root and install a custom ROM because I was convinced that its a US Cellular final FU but "ping pong root" dosent yet support US cellular phones and I don't want to trip KNOX.
Any help would be appreciated.

i suggest you look at ROK LTE bands, they may not be compatible with your phone.

Above tips are all valid. Also make sure you have a ROK mobile APN selected. And if not present, create it according to thier guidelines.

Rooting for US cellular S6, SM-G920R4, should be done through CF-auto-root. Download the root file and the appropriate custom recovery, example: TWRP for sm-g920r4. Flash cf root first and then custom recovery in that order via Odin. You will be rooted and ready to install custom ROM s.
**Your knox will be tripped and warranty will be void.

Forgive the newby question but I thought you dont use APN's in CMDA mode?
in any case I can't view or change the APN settings

Thank YOU
I hope you all understand that I greatly appreciate your help and taking the time to answer.
THANK YOU>

According to Wikipedia, ROK uses Verizon's network. The same Wikipedia article states ROK/Verizon uses LTE bands 2, 4, 13. This site and this site state the US Cellular 920R4 uses LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 25. So your phone only works with 2 of Verizon's LTE bands. Maybe your area uses the LTE band you're missing (13). Verizon is notorious for screwing people, so Verizon might be limiting or excluding LTE access to MVNO operators like ROK.

So LTE is not working on all your phones? Then its a network issue; not your phones.

First thank you for the reply. US Cellular's LTE network is on bands 5, and 12. is it possible for the us cellular software to limit network selection to one of these 2 bands even though the phone made to receive LTE data from all the all of the above bands? because as I look at it rok supports band 12 but not band 5 (in terms of those bands on par with US Cellular) but rok also supports band 2 and 4 which apparently my phone is capable of receiving data on but for some reason unable to....

Curious if it picks up a data signal.

When I scanned for networks while playing around, I noticed that it did find the Verizon (4G) network. Obviously, I have no idea if it works as I'm on T-Mobile, but I thought I'd let you know.

Looking at the specs it "APPEARS" two supported bands are there? The whole thing is annoying honestly, especially when Verizon won't allow an actual activation so you need an active data sim to try.
Confirmed
Verizon sim card does not work. Just got mine today, popped in my Verizon card from my note 2 and it doesn't even recognize the carrier.
A network scan (for my area) only shows at&t and t-mobile.
First the nexus 5 and now this. It's really starting to such to be on Verizon ...
It would only support AWS LTE on Verizon (what they call XLTE). It doesn't support Verizon's primary LTE band, which is Band 13. And AFAIK Verizon hasn't deployed LTE on PCS.
AFAIK there are three makes of the shield tablet

May want to check this out just got it from the shield tablet site - just putting this here so anyone who finds this thread also finds the relevant data
There are three versions of SHIELD tablet LTE. There is a North American version that works on AT&T, T-Mobile and Rogers on LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, and 17 and HSPA bands 1, 2, 4, 5.
There is a second International version that works on popular European and Asian networks. It supports LTE bands 3, 7, 20 and HSPA+ bands 1, 2, 5, 8.
Check with your favorite store/carrier to verify coverage in your area and as to what device variant you'll ACTUALLY be getting
That being said Verizon uses these bands AFAIK 13(700 MHz Block C) and 4(1700/2100 MHz AWS) for LTE(XLTE for the latter) and 0 and 1 for 3G (1xRTT/EV-DO/eHRPD) - so the only chance of using it is on band 4 - and that will only happen if the devices radio can use the AWS network which i suppose is possible AND the tower in your area having XLTE support - will just need to see - guess i wont know till i get it since they have XLTE in my town, or it could have a snowballs chance in heck or only work after a soft update..ill post an update on what happens

Working in Uk?
The strangest thing... I enabled said bands while I was visiting Pakistan and it IMMEDIATELY worked (provider there uses band 3, 1800 MHz) It worked just fine in Dubai as well, also on band 3 and on my EE sim on roaming on etisalat. But then I get back to Uk and still no LTE. Just HSPA!
I am on EE network which I am sure uses band 3 as well. I know there is an LTE signal in my area because when I pop my sim in my wife's iPhone 5 (not 5s) it picks LTE immediately (which I believe is only capable of band 3 in UK)
Also, I am not getting LTE on my Verizon anywhere at all.
So I know band 3 was unlocked because it worked great in Pakistan and Dubai but its not working here. Anyone have any ideas why this is?

So if I am American, do I even need or want to try this?

What are the default LTE bands the verizon m8 comes with?
Also is it possible to unlock AWS HSPA+ bands?
I have the exact same problem. I can't get any UK sim cards to reliably work in the UK but it works well in every other EU country I'm in. I've tried both Voda and O2 UK. Strangely though there are a few locations (near Victoria for example) where 4g *does* work. But it's geographically small and other areas my old sgs4 got 4g don't work on this handset w the same sim. Bizarre.
I was hoping this would be a more popular thread but guess the phone is getting old now...

TMO uses LTE bands 2-4-12 in the continental US and Verizon 4-13. Therefore you should unlock bands 2-12 to use both carriers.
So, NV6828 and NV6829 original values(4104) must be replaced with 6154. Hope this helps.

Unlocked Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge from other Carriers

Here is confirmation for anyone wonder if the Galaxy S6 unlocked from ATT or Tmoibile will work on Verizon just like the iPhones 6 6+ or Nexus 6
I have both ATT and Tmobile Galaxy S6 in hands, unlocked, inserted Verizon sim card in and there is no signal
However, when I check "About Device" it shows my phone number
Mobile Network Type: LTE
Service State: Out of Service
and LTE came up for a second and never came back on
I think they blocked the LTE bands or so to stop people unlock their phones using on another carrier

You guys are confusing "unlocked" terms. There's a carrier unlock and a bootloader unlock. VZW phones are carrier unlocked and work on any network as long as the radio has the proper frequency support. But VZW phones are bootloader locked, meaning you can't flash unsigned packages to the device i..e. no root yet.
S6 att unlock
hi was it easy to get the att s6 unlocked. Thanks.
Mostly correct except root does not necessarily depend on unlocked bootloader, which you somewhat implied by the end of your statement.
I'm thinking about purchasing a unlocked Sprint Galaxy S6 on craigslist and bringing it to Verizon. Does anyone know if this will work?
Thanks
~Tom
I want the S6 but not if the bootloader is locked. I know that Verizon and ATT are the two carriers who will lock the bootloader. I'm not sure if a T-Mobile line would work due to their using GSM rather than CDMA, but doesn't Sprint use CDMA? Would we be able to purchase a Sprint variant that doesn't have a locked bootloader and then use that phone on Verizon?
Would a Vzw version work on GSM carriers including LTE? I am thinking of buying one off contract for the wife, but want it to be able to go to a cheaper prepaid service later once our contract expires.
t mobile phone on Verizon network
Would the T mobile S6 work with Verizon LTE data only? Did you try to surf the Internet?
Will a Verizon S6 work on T-Mobile? LTE as well?
It should work fine but be aware that VZW uses different LTE bands than TMO. VZW uses Bands 13/4 with 13 as Primary and TMO uses primarily Band 4 but will enable band 12 soon.

Well, when carriers started putting up powers that supported LTE, the phone manufacturers were releasing phones that supported CDMA and LTE because LTE wasn't widespread enough to get an LTE signal. CDMA technology will eventually be replaced by LTE. Qualcomm owns all the parents for CDMA, so whenever anyone makes a call using CDMA, QCOM collects their revenue checks, which used to represent 51% of total revenues. It's cheaper for the carriers to run LTE because QCOM doesn't own the entire technology and they won't have to pay the royalties to QCOM for using their technology (kind of like using H.265 vs VP9 for 4K video compression. Royalties using the older H.265 compression maxed out at $5 million a year. H. 265 maxes out at $25 million vs Google's VP9 free open-source technology for video compression.
Once enough towers are up that support LTE, handsets won't come with the availability to use CDMA technology anymore. Next thing we'll see are cable providers putting up hotspot all around the city (I've already seen it with Comcast, but this could really hurt the phone companies since people won't even be using LTE anymore, just like when people had to use much slower data connections in rural areas on their cell phones because they didn't have towers. VOIP will also hurt the carriers.
So, to answer that, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't built to support CDMA anymore. These balloons that just started being launched by Google to provide Internet access to everyone in the world will be interesting to see how functional it is. It would be nice top have a high speed connection anywhere in the world.
Sprint and Verizon uses CDMA while AT&T and T-Mobile uses GSM. So trying to use an unlocked S6 for Verizon won't work since unlocked versions are usually GSM. So nope.

I had the exact same problem with my one plus one. I'm 99% certain it's not about the bands being blocked in the phone but about verizon network non-verizon phones. The fact that you can select verizon if you search for a network means the bands are compatible.
Verizon is being evil by blocking the phones. I'm just not sure how (could be that any phone not wishlisted cannot be activated i.e. s13 interface )

Problem is Verizon whitelists all IMEIs for phones that they'll "support." Even if you get it working, it 1) doesn't have CDMA, so you can't make calls unless you're strictly in VoLTE areas, and 2) you won't be able to make any plan changes or get a M2M discount since the phone would be a "Non-VZW Device."

Right, that's been my speculation for a while, but i have no inside info. Whitelisting every device would be a major PITA though...unless they bulk-whitelist then using data from the manufacturers. ..that also doesnt explain why people report being able to bring an iphone 6 or a nexus 6 over from other nwtworks (not sure if rhey have only gotten lte working and not the cdma part)
I do know the cdma functionality wouldn't be available, but tthe discussion was more along the lines of why it attached to lte ans then nothing.
The strange part is that both OP and I saw LTE eveb if for a split second. ..i would expect N attach reject if it's due to the Whitelisting.

Oh yeah? Well then, how do you explain how come my Verizon S5 didn't work on T-Mobile when we tried it, huh?

The most likely reason is that you did something wrong. I have personally used verizon s3, verizon s4 and htc rezound in tmobile and other gsm networks. (I will test my s6 soon for t-mobile and cricket)
it's well known that most verizon lte phones are unlocked and have gsm functionality.
My most logical guess is that you didn't set up something like the APN.
Your anecdotal experience does not a rule make. (most common fallacy i see in real life: it didnt work for me so it doesnt work!)

Pre-Order Question

I was thinking of pulling the trigger on pre-order for a few reasons, but have not been able to get an answer of two questions!?
1 ) It says that the Verizon is coming soon, and list Band on the specs, if I pre-order will Verizon compatibility be a software upgrade or will it be a different model phone?
2 ) They talk about a developer edition with unlocked bootloader, is the the unlocked carrier version the same as the developer edition, or is that going to be a different phone all together?
Unfortunately I missed the press conference today and hoping and maybe the questions were answered. Also I figured the great knowledgeable people over here at XDA might know this answer. I have tried contacting HTC support, but it seems their chat system is down. I sent them a Facebook post with these questions, but and not optimistic that they will get back to me.
Anyways thanks,
Leroy
1. Verizon is a software update. It will run on their LTE network. In theory at least. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2493426,00.asp
2. I missed if there would be a developer edition. The presentation said the unlocked carrier version can have bootloader unlocked and not void the warranty. https://youtu.be/VZM17XI409M?t=888
[edit]
HTC's website says the Verizon update will be released in November. I thought I read somewhere that it should be within a week of launch, but I can't remember where I saw it.
[/edit]
Is it possible to use an Indian credit card to place an order and ship to USA address? Do they still do the verification and bill only US cards?

Appreciate all the info @pkinetics
My only concern is what the was said in the article. The phone will not have CDMA, so those spots in a building have happened to me oh so much, where I loose LTE and go to 3g. I can assume with this phone that would mean I would have no service. I really applaud HTC for making a move so bold. There are so many unlocked phones world wide for GSM that are really affordable. I just purchased a used phone to hold me out until I decided if I wanted a Nexus 5x or not, but I think that I am gonna go with this phone. I know that I may loose service sometimes, but usually when I am in a building I am on wifi and I use hangouts for all of my calls and sms.
Thanks again for the links

I don't think they're releasing a DevEd. The unlocked version is sim unlocked only I believe.
Nope, in the live stream they said the phone will not lose its warranty with opened bootloader and unlocked condition. And you can install custom roms without losing it too.

Does anyone know if you can use the unlocked / free US version in Europe / Germany completely without any restriction?
Especially with all frequencies and bands?
Does anyone happen to know if the Sprint version has a CDMA radio? (Just wondering if it might be possible to migrate the sprint version over to verizon land.) LTE-only on Verizon will be a bit of an issue for voice calls in spotty / fringe areas...

If things go as planned, CDMA on Verizon will be no longer...by end of 2016.
They intend to have their entire CDMA market covered with LTE by that time and will be phasing out legacy CDMA altogether.
VoLTE will BE their voice coverage.
Just throwing that out there...

I've seen blurbs about:
1. Shipping early November. I swear I heard in the presentation he said first week of November. I'm guessing this is basic colors.
2. Acid gold and deep garnet will ship late November.
3. Sprint has said they will have the A9 available Nov 6. AT&T has committed, but not set a date or price.
The USA need to start next week Monday in my opinion.

Most likely...
Well, HTC updated A9 Verizon info on their site.
Instead of "Verizon coming soon"
Now it says: "Verizon coming in December"
:silly:
Aloha Santod,
I couldn't help myself and ended up pulling the trigger on the unlocked version. I'm hoping that if what they say is true that this will run on Verizon. If the boot loader is accessible for unlocking and it works on Verizon I will be one step closer to your custom roms.I decided to sell my M9 because I was dissapointed with the camera and I'm currently using my m8 to pass the time. Hope you decide to do your magic on this unit.
Mahalo Bro.
so its a preorder now, when will this ship for gsm models? i may return my m9 and buy this instead.
I think the a9 is a beautiful device for its price
The Sprint version has all the bands necessary for project Fi. Wonder if that's in the cards as well.

Not sure if international unlock is different but ##72786# in dialer will reset data provisioning to factory without needing msl and only resetting data configuration without resetting phone or user files. The 3282 one will allow u to view data settings without msl but msl needed to change anything, some custom roms/kernels have this bypassed allowing data settings accessible without msl. Id try scrtn first (72786)

Or signal guard app may be worth trying if rooted as it will have an option for radio locking where you can change preferred network type. The app also can be used unrooted just not sure what that is like as I havent tried unrooted.
Is there any option to learn msl in my phone ?

You'll have to contact sprint, if you call care they will sometimes give it to you, or if you know someone at a store they might be able to look it up for you
If you want to root or are rooted there are other options as well, but without the trouble of that it should be easier to get it from sprint. They do have terms for it which can be found somewhere on their site, I'd google sprint unlock policy. You will most likely come across workarounds as well from the same search results.

If u r rooted or would rather not gamble your luck with the various different service reps (all working for the same company) http://idoneapps.com would be, in my opinion, the most simple and surebet option available to obtaining the msl, among several other options that I believe would be a tremendous help to you. There may be other methods out there, however, just from my experience with the same model phone and whether marshmallow or lollipop it has without a doubt worked successfully.

And apologies if the link is not within the rules as for being free or whatever, I just wasnt sure how to go about it as it had once been posted on a forum on here being shared for free and was requested by idoneapps to be removed so in respect to that I only felt comfortable pointing in the honest direction, what you decide from there is entirely up to you.
My friends, i have got msl code now and i checked setting.
I have seen that i havent lte 3 7 20 bans , so i cant see lte signal in my note 5.
How can i add this lte bands for my note 5?
Is it possible?
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA-Developers mobile app
The bands supported by the n920p are bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 25, 26, 41
Dear my friend.
I can see band3 setting but it says not supported.
I think, can it solve with new kernel or porting new firmware
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have entered this 72786 code and reset but i cant see my network now, emergency call only. It is sprint phone but unlocked to sim free by sprint. I tried this code because i also have problem with Lte.
It is note 5 n920p.
What should i do?
