I was thinking of pulling the trigger on pre-order for a few reasons, but have not been able to get an answer of two questions!?
1 ) It says that the Verizon is coming soon, and list Band on the specs, if I pre-order will Verizon compatibility be a software upgrade or will it be a different model phone?
2 ) They talk about a developer edition with unlocked bootloader, is the the unlocked carrier version the same as the developer edition, or is that going to be a different phone all together?
Unfortunately I missed the press conference today and hoping and maybe the questions were answered. Also I figured the great knowledgeable people over here at XDA might know this answer. I have tried contacting HTC support, but it seems their chat system is down. I sent them a Facebook post with these questions, but and not optimistic that they will get back to me.
Anyways thanks,
Leroy
1. Verizon is a software update. It will run on their LTE network. In theory at least. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2493426,00.asp
2. I missed if there would be a developer edition. The presentation said the unlocked carrier version can have bootloader unlocked and not void the warranty. https://youtu.be/VZM17XI409M?t=888
[edit]
HTC's website says the Verizon update will be released in November. I thought I read somewhere that it should be within a week of launch, but I can't remember where I saw it.
[/edit]
Is it possible to use an Indian credit card to place an order and ship to USA address? Do they still do the verification and bill only US cards?

Appreciate all the info @pkinetics
My only concern is what the was said in the article. The phone will not have CDMA, so those spots in a building have happened to me oh so much, where I loose LTE and go to 3g. I can assume with this phone that would mean I would have no service. I really applaud HTC for making a move so bold. There are so many unlocked phones world wide for GSM that are really affordable. I just purchased a used phone to hold me out until I decided if I wanted a Nexus 5x or not, but I think that I am gonna go with this phone. I know that I may loose service sometimes, but usually when I am in a building I am on wifi and I use hangouts for all of my calls and sms.
Thanks again for the links

I don't think they're releasing a DevEd. The unlocked version is sim unlocked only I believe.
Nope, in the live stream they said the phone will not lose its warranty with opened bootloader and unlocked condition. And you can install custom roms without losing it too.

Does anyone know if you can use the unlocked / free US version in Europe / Germany completely without any restriction?
Especially with all frequencies and bands?
Does anyone happen to know if the Sprint version has a CDMA radio? (Just wondering if it might be possible to migrate the sprint version over to verizon land.) LTE-only on Verizon will be a bit of an issue for voice calls in spotty / fringe areas...

If things go as planned, CDMA on Verizon will be no longer...by end of 2016.
They intend to have their entire CDMA market covered with LTE by that time and will be phasing out legacy CDMA altogether.
VoLTE will BE their voice coverage.
Just throwing that out there...

I've seen blurbs about:
1. Shipping early November. I swear I heard in the presentation he said first week of November. I'm guessing this is basic colors.
2. Acid gold and deep garnet will ship late November.
3. Sprint has said they will have the A9 available Nov 6. AT&T has committed, but not set a date or price.
The USA need to start next week Monday in my opinion.

Most likely...
Well, HTC updated A9 Verizon info on their site.
Instead of "Verizon coming soon"
Now it says: "Verizon coming in December"
:silly:
Aloha Santod,
I couldn't help myself and ended up pulling the trigger on the unlocked version. I'm hoping that if what they say is true that this will run on Verizon. If the boot loader is accessible for unlocking and it works on Verizon I will be one step closer to your custom roms.I decided to sell my M9 because I was dissapointed with the camera and I'm currently using my m8 to pass the time. Hope you decide to do your magic on this unit.
Mahalo Bro.
so its a preorder now, when will this ship for gsm models? i may return my m9 and buy this instead.
I think the a9 is a beautiful device for its price
The Sprint version has all the bands necessary for project Fi. Wonder if that's in the cards as well.

Sorry - just noticed the Q & A section...
I placed an order with an Amazon UK seller and have received a branded T-Mobile Sensation 4G model - I was expecting a UK model which this is clearly not.
Should I be worried? I'd welcome any comments on:
Warranty - valid with HTC or only via the seller? 2 Years?
3G and 4G bands? Will it work as a HSDPA connected 3G phone here in Europe? Have I actually got a more capable phone with more network bands that I would have for a UK model? It appears so from this: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3922&idPhone2=3875
Any comments welcome. The price was good at £434.20 incl P&P and this is SIM free.
If you can put up with the T-Mobile branding/waiting for OS updates then keep it. Personally, I'd send it back and pay the extra for a genuine unbranded EU model

Hadn't thought about the software. I assume, as we are all, that the Sensation will soon be able to be updated with XDA Dev ROMs. If so there should be no difference then? But would the radio inside this phone currently be optimised for the US T-Mobile network? I know that lots of people seem to think radios version suitability depends upon where you are - I wonder if the radios in US 4G Sensations are different to the ones here in the UK

It's not about Euro model 3G capable or US model 4G capable. The Europe/Asia model Z710e is capable of 4G too. It depends on your network provider if they have enabled HSPA+(4G).
T-Mobile I'm pretty sure they run mostly on the 2100MHz band (in USA they do) and they have been upgrading their network equipment to enable HSPA+(4G).

Well, not exactly. TMOUS uses UMTS band IV (1700/2100). Not UMTS band I, which is what people generally mean when talking about 2100 Mhz. They are different. Most of Europe uses UMTS band I and/or UMTS band VIII (900). 4g/3g is irrelevant here since it is only a marketing term in this instance, as shadowboy23 said. They are both capable of the same speeds on the same networks.
Now, I have not seen definitive specs yet for the TMOUS version. T-Mobile says it is UMTS I and IV, but the box it comes in says I, II, and IV. No mention of band VIII. If I were you, I would return it and get the European version, since it has band VIII, which you may or may not need, depending on your area.
Just curious - what is listed on your box for band support?
Tmobile HTC sensation 4g box says..
Umts 1700,1900,2100
Correct me is I am wrong, but the UK uses 2100 up and down? Best for the op to call service provider and confirm what band they use for data service.

Based on GSMArena the 3G bands are HSDPA 850/900/2100, so it will work in 850 with AT&T, but there are areas where you'll need 1900 to get 3G and you would only get Edge.
I'm not sure if GSMArena info is accurate but I understand that there should be a HTC One S for T-Mobile and that would require 1700/2100 so there's another coming with different bands or GSMArena is wrong...
There were posts on a number of blogs such as engadget that the t-mobile variant had AWS bands plus 850/1900 for AT&T. That would be great if it did. Wondering if the band specification was determined before the merger fell apart.
Hey guys just wondering if anybody has unlocked a One S (bought from a Canadian Carrier) and tested it out on Wind or Mobilicity.
I emailed HTC asking them about the bands supported by the phones and this is the reply I got.
Fido: HSPA 42 Mbps
Bell: HSPA 42 Mbps 2100/1900/AWS GSM 850/900/1800/1900
Sasktel: HSPA 42 Mbps
Telus: HSPA 42 Mbps
Virgin: HSPA 42 Mbps

Asked them if the other phones had the same bands
I do apologise for the misunderstanding, but the bands would be the same for the One S on each network.
That being said, I will suggest to contact Wind Mobile to verify if a unlocked phone will work to its fullest potential or not. The reason I mention this, is that some providers put a limit on the connection, on an unlocked phone.

Wrong. Canadian One S are not AWS.

As for the official HTC site says. HSPA/WCDMA:Europe/Asia: 850/900/2100 MHz
BUT Your links would make sense according to the note Network bands in regions other than Europe and Asia Pacific may be different, depending on the mobile operator and your location.
I too, am trying to find out too what bands does the Canadian version support
Fido , Bell, Virgin all listed HSPA 850 1900 2100 but Telus only listed 850 1900 , so that leads me to believe 1700 is not supported.
However at the same time, the international version isn't penta band, nor the T mobile version... Where are theretailers getting their penta band One S in black?
Maybe the device is penta band from the fatory but carriered modified ?
My Telus One S arrives next week and I will unlock it but ufortunately Wind doesn't
operate in SK so I won't be able to test it.
I tried to look at the demo phone and I couldnt find the menu option to select networks.

The black unlocked international One S is for sure not pentaband as far as I know and supports less bands than the blue version. I am assuming the blue versions are all the same and just branded differently. My suspicion is Fido/Bell/Virgin/Telus aren't listing the 1700 band so that people do not buy and unlock them to use with Wind/Mobilicity.
That's too bad there has to be someone out there that has attempted to try it on Wind/Mobilicity. It's such a pain how every site/company is showing different specs.
The European version will not work with AWS. Currently the only *confirmed" AWS version is the T-Mobile US version. However if S-Off is ever achieved then flashing a T-Mobile US radio could "unlock" the bands in the European version and other versions a la the Snapdragon Galaxy Note.

I am aware the the European one does not have AWS. However I am not asking about the black European model. In Canada we have the blue model just like the one with T-Mobile in the States which leads me to believe that the Canadian version=the American version; I just need some confirmation.

Does anybody mind looking under the cover for the model / FCC ID / Industry Canada certification numbers and reporting back with the carrier they got the phone from and the FCC ID. They should be printed on the label near the headphones / headset jack.
These are the variants available in Canada.
PJ40100: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40110: UMTS Band II (1900)/IV (AWS)/V (850)
PJ40200: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40210: UMTS Band II (1900)/V (850)
I went to Telus and Bell today ( the Fido and Sasktel stores didn't have working demo models ), I checked the FCC tags and both of them showed "PJ40110". on the top line.
I didn't look at the FCC ID or IC.

Awesome! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. Now I can safely go out and buy this with no worries
Please be aware that you will buy an unsupported phone, unlock the bootloader to root the phone, most probably voiding your warranty in the process (there's talk that the root-only (and not requiring unlocked bootloader) method for the NA One X works on the One S) then Sim-unlock the phone (by a paid code or the new hack), find the APNs for your carrier...
... And hope that all works...
I don't want to scare you but make sure you fully understand all risks. Specially if you buy the phone outright and don't have an account on that carrier...
Despite the fact that I can't test data (as it should be locked in my account) here is a shot telling that I'm on 3G UTMS (which can't be done with this SIM on a non-AWS phone like my iPhone).
I got one from Virginmobile had it unlocked it and am now using it on Mobilicity.
The Rep at the store assured me it wont work but i tried it and it did.
Reason for buying from there was because it was on sale.
Hello. I bought an AT&T variant of the S6. I haven't had a carrier branded phone in a long time (as my signature shows), so I was surprised at the bloat, not only from AT&T, but from Samsung. This leads to my question...
Would it benefit me to return my AT&T phone and buy an international version? My concerns are as follows:
1. I'm only slightly worried about the LTE bands/IMEI issues since I use Straight Talk mainly (I'm only on AT&T long enough for them to unlock my phone [60 days]). I'm wondering if Straight Talk would even understand the issues with the IMEI not being registered, or if I'd be stuck on AT&T paying a higher prepaid amount.
2. For those who have bought an international version, what kind of charger came with it? I asked an eBay seller who has several 920I's listed if it comes with a Samsung U.S. fast charger, and they said 'no'. If not, I guess we're on our own to buy a charger/fast charger?
Any answers would be much appreciated.

Return it. I am using SM-G920F International Version on AT&T network. It's way faster and I've already received an update improving stability of the device. Also, check with AT&T about which LTE bands are operating in your area. Atlanta, for example, is operating on LTE bands 17 and 4. Since SM-G920F does not have band 17 support, I am only able to receive band 4 LTE. Keep in mind that AT&T's main LTE band is 17, which covers most areas and SM-G920F does not have that support. You won't receive LTE if AT&T operates on band 17 in your area.
Also, the charger you will receive is Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger.

I have been looking into the 920I, which, by this eBay seller's listing supports LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 17 & 26. That should cover about everything in the U.S., correct?
Also, I haven't read any threads about rooting/flashing custom recovery (because no way to do so right now on AT&T version), but I'm assuming the 920I or F both already have root methods and custom recoveries, right?
EDIT: I just found a 920F on eBay, and it lists the following connections (including LTE band 17):
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(1700/2100AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B26(800).

Thanks for the answers. Has anyone been able to verify this? I'm looking at two eBay sellers with 99.9% ratings over thousands of items sold, and both are listing band 17 on LTE as supported.

Above site doesn't list band 17. From my experience, I was never connected to band 17 LTE using AT&T. It was either Band 4 LTE or Band 2 Hspa+. Maybe I am missing something or AT&T towers lock Band 17 LTE for AT&T branded devices.
I am not ATT customer. Bought ATT version and have a weeks battle to get unlock code after paying full price at bb. Yes, it has tons of ATT and Samsung bloatware. Took it back and get G9201i from eBay seller Breed. Loving it and working flawlessly on cricket which uses ATT towers.

Is that site "the standard resource" for this type of information?
If so, then it shows the 920I as having 2, 4, 5, 12, 17 and 26 LTE bands.

That website is one and only website that an actual person cross references with the government integrity registration from FCC and oversea government organizations as well. Since SM-G920I model does have band 17 and 4, you will be perfectly fine with using it on AT&T's network. Sorry for the earlier confusion (I thought you were referring to SM-G920F model, which is the one that I am using).
Just to add: voLTE feature is disabled on international versions right now. It should be enabled in the future.
Thanks! Any reason cited that it's disabled? I mean, I could care less anyway, just wondering.

Dear Mr lan, do you get LTE? I'm using G920i and my provider is ATT, I never get LTE here in New York.
My main concern now is if I'll have any problems with LTE on Straight Talk. I'm guessing the only reason one may not get LTE is if their provider doesn't have their IMEI registered as an LTE device. I can only imagine Straight Talk's reaction to someone asking them to register their IMEI.

Must be your apn settings. Yes I get full LTE. I can check when light up on display and the dialer code does show I am connected to an LTE band.
Some folks w att have had them replace thwir imei with an old imei recognized in their network as 4G enable and that may fix your issue to.

Last question, I think... did your 920I come with a genuine Samsung adaptive fast charger? Was it a European fast charger with an American adapter, or American Samsung fast charger all the way?

No European charger or adapter. It was a standard Samsung fast charger. That's what it says on side and when I plug to the phone it recognizes it as a fast charger.

Do we think the unlocked model will work on Verizon? I know last year you had to flash the Verizon firmware to get it to work. I'd love a phone I can swap between TMobile and Verizon.

Right, but it doesn't list CDMA. I know the HTC 10 said it supported band 13 and CDMA, but it wouldn't take a Verizon SIM unless you flashed the Verizon firmware to it.

I phoned and asked Verizon if the device would work on their network.
They said they needed an IMEI to put in there system software to
answer that.
As its initally specific to Sprint, where would get the VZW firmware (radios)?

Talked to HTC and they show availability for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile & Verizon as well as unlocked.
*The unlocked HTC 11 is compatible with AT&T, T‑Mobile and Verizon Networks .
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-u11/buy/#!color=black
Link to buy page where can select the carrier specific version or unlocked.
The CSR at HTC did comment that since it doesn't have the CDMA & 3G baseband radios you could only use it,
(the unlocked variant), on 4G or wi-fi which could be problemactical.
I guess we have to wait till its released and someone extracts the radio partition from the VZW variant and
then the unlocked version can be overlayed with that like it was done on HTC 10?

That must have recently changed, because a couple days ago they only had Sprint, Verizon, and unlocked models (now they have T-Mobile and AT&T), and the unlocked model said it only worked on T-Mobile and AT&T.
Weird.
I purchased two and selected the Verizon icon when configuring.
Hoping that I get the VZW version which is also ROW compliant.
EDIT: This thread prompted me to contact a CSR on the HTC website chat. They stated that, Yes the Unlocked will work on Verizon. And, if I get the Verizon version, it will be locked to VZW only.
Code:
*The unlocked HTC 11 is compatible with AT&T, T‑Mobile and Verizon Networks .
So, I canceled my orders for Verizon version and ordered a Sapphire Blue Unlocked. They had better not be wrong.

Same Here switched my order from the Verizon version to the Unlocked version after they told me the same thing. They also have a buyer remorse period of 20 days with a full money back return minus the shipping fees.
We will most definitely be getting Verizon running on the unlocked version !

Happy to hear a Dev say this. Can't wait to see what the Dev Community can do with the unlocked version. :good:
I have a theory that even if you choose the Verizon model, you're getting an unlocked model. And my experience (unless I did something wrong) might point to that.
I CLEARLY remember clicking on Verizon before checking out and pre-ordering the phone. Today, after finding out that the Unlocked version ALSO is compatible with Verizon, I went to HTC Support Chat to see if they can somehow give me the coupon code I used to pre-order back so I can put it instead towards the unlocked version. It takes a few minutes, and the rep comes back and tells me that I did pre-order the unlocked model.
So one of two things happened:
1.) I actually pre-ordered the Unlocked version from the get go without realizing and it worked in my favor.
2.) I pre-ordered the Verizon version which also happens to be the Unlocked version.

Probably option 1. Their sites is laggy (as least for me it was) and my still have my Verizon version ordered from 2 days ago, hasn't changed.
I also ordered an unlocked model yesterday on another account.
Seems that there will be only one MID for North America (device name htc_ocnwhl, 4/64, single SIM) with two CIDs for US Unlocked and Sprint.

By any chance did you ask if the Verizon version will have the ability to unlock the bootloader?
Quite a screw up for changing up the info for the unlocked version. Strange thing is they haven't sold an unlocked version compatible with Verizon out of the box that I recall. Guess I'll have to call to see if I can get a consistent or different response from others calling in.

This would make you think the Verizon version might be an unlocked version but I'm sure it's locked down. Can't wait until this gets ironed out.
fyi---there is no Verizon specific model...it doesn't matter if u choose att, tmo or vzw, they're all the unlocked model...
oh & another fyi---Verizon will be LTE ONLY...no CDMA...that's gonna suck for those w/o solid LTE coverage
I reordered the unlocked version and put in a cancel request for the Verizon one. Hopefully they get my cancel request and I don't end up with two lol

The Verizon model, will come working only with Verizon's LTE bands and will receive all the updates that Verizon Launches, however, the Unlocked version is compatible with Verizon too but will get the updates faster, and you will be able to swap carrier.

They are just going with what was true for HTC 10. As always, HTC reps are clueless. There is no Verizon U11, otherwise it would be listed for sale on HTC US.

Exactly, the rep doesn't know what they're talking about... There is no Verizon model, only unlocked & Sprint. Updates for Verizon will come from HTC.
