[HELP] I can't WoL properly - General Questions and Answers

Hello I've searched alot about the WoL or WoW functionality and its great it's very useful for me because I usually won't carry my laptop all the time so I decided to search how to wake my PC remotely and I found a method almost it's the same I found before and I did the next exactly
First my PC is connected through wire cable not wireless
1. I did port forward on 9 UDP and TCP also 7
2. I entered the BIOS and enabled the Wake on Lan feature and my motherboard is GIGABYTE Z97-D3H
3. I went to my ethernet driver and enabled Wake on Lan magic pattern and those things
4. I downloaded an app called Wake on Lan and there's alot of apps with that names and they all the same almost doing the same task
5. I searched for MAC address and I entered it properly and the IP
I did all of this and still not want to wake it up. But here's my thoughts of my this not working for me so please help me about this thoughts
1. I think my motherboards supports this feature because I found it easily under power management section
2. maybe I did the port forwarding wrong but I tried to wake my PC though wifi and it's work but didn't work on 3G
3. I searched alot and found maybe I want to purchase dyndns.com server?

TyTN (v1605) as bluetooth modem...?

Hi all - help!
I am trying to set my TyTN to be a bluetooth modem. The instruction manual is useless.
If I try to connect to my device from my laptop (Dell D610) I get the only option of installing a modem device - I do this but it simply acts as a standard dial-up. I am prompted for a telephone number, username/password. Furthermore there is no generic bluetooth modem displayed in control panel as suggested by the manual.
What I am after is a way to connect my laptop to the TyTN over bluetooth and then use the 3G connectivity as internet access...
I can use the 3G from the phone no probs - so I know the phone is correctly configured in terms of access. It is just the bluetooth part I cannot get working.
It makes no difference if I have wireless modem started or not either...
Help???
Rich
OK - I figured this out...
To install Bluetooth modem do this:
1 - activate bluetooth and set TyTN to be discoverable
2 - on laptop search for new device and connect
3 - select dial-up networking service and connect
4 - set up passwords if necessary
5 - when presented with dial-up info, give the connection a name and simpy add *99# as the phone number.
6 - ok this and the connection is set up and a new dial-up conection (mine is COM40) appears in control panel modems.
In order to connect:
1 - turn on bluetooth on TyTN
2 - activate wireless-modem, select bluetooth and hit start
3 - double-click the new connection on the laptop
It should open the BT port, connect and you should be off...
I got 115k/sec using this over 3G
Rich
PS - you can also do this using the built in USB modem. Basically, start the wireless-modem app, select USB and hit start. Now plug your USB cable in and when prompted install the driver off the vodafone CD (I used the one is OEM/Apps/Drivers/USBModem). Once installed again put *99# as the phone number of the connection. To use simply start wireless modem as usb, connect the device and dial the new connection name. I got 215k/sec indicated!!!!

The 115K and 215K are default port speeds when you setup the connection. If you select the properties of the Bluetooth and USB Modems you can raise it up to 921K
Thanks for the help, here, rakr1 - I've also been pulling my hair out over this. I got the BT modem recognised (also as COM40) and tried using the Vodafone ConnectMe app but it attempts an unsupported AT command and bombs out. So, using your instructions I've now got my TyTN connected.
However, it's still constrained to 115200bps. The modem properties dialog doesn't let me set it any higher. Ideas? How did you change this, rkorzuch?
Thanks.

Mine only allows up to 230K .... is there a newer driver or something ? i used the link from the wiki.
Thanks!
Oh, as a side note, when I tried to install this -- it said something in computer management that made it sound like it was in beta -- something like Preproduction version, [REMEMBER TO CHANGE SYSID] something along those lines .. is that bad?

Don't pay attention to it - in reality, your TyTN communicates far faster with the desktop. the port speed only hs meaning over serial connections, not over IrDA / BT / USB ones.
(At least, this has always been the case in all my tests.)
sorry to sound stupid an' all, but I'm on t-mobile (UK) and I'd like to know what bearing this has on their "Web 'n' Walk" plans, I'm only on the normal version, rather than the plus or max, so would the methods on this site avoid their notice?
thanks, Forlornity
(oh, and First post! I've been lurking for a while now but decided to register today)

I am not sure if you can connect through the wireless modem, I would expect that your dial up wouldn't work. You can give it a try. Even if they would notice, what can they do? You can always tell them that you did it by accident.
I am pretty sure I've read a post somewhere that someone was doing this for quite a while.
As far as I know the difference comes in the traffic limit, where web and walk should be 1 GB and plus is 3GB.
What's a bluetooth modem?
I followed the steps above and managed to get connected (which is great. thanks Rich!)
However, everytime I try to do this again it gets to the registering on the network phase, I can see the connection, send and receive lights blinking and then it suddenly stops and I get a "error 31 : a device attached to the system is not functioning" error.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Dan

[Q] Tethering

This question has probably been asked a million times but i couldn't find an answer.
On my HTC Hero (android 2.1), there was an option to tether once you plugged the phone into your computer. This could also be used as a wireless receiver for a desktop computer lacking a wireless access card. I was using this as a last resort after losing dozens of Ethernet cables to vermin under the house. Basically the idea was: connect to your homes wireless router on the phone, then plug the phone into the usb slot of your computer and it would share that wifi connection with your computer. Recently I have switched over to the all powerful HTC HD2 and I am realizing there is no way to do this, that I can tell, with the stock phone. Is there something I'm missing?
I have tried using the Internet Sharing option, as well as the CMInternetSharing.cab I downloaded from you guys, and neither seem to bring this ability to the table. Is there an app out there that can solve this problem?
Ussually a Custom rom will fix this most have the Internet share or WiFi router but you need to HARDSPL your phone. also theres a way for you to do it just deleting your or editing your REGISTRY.
---------------------
Here is the Thread for the roms for your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
and this is the rom I Recomend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
use the Cookie GTX (white theme)
Follow the intructions on how to install it(rom) also onces done click on your Window button>tools>WiFi Router and you can use your phone as a wireless router also if you connected your phone Via usb to your conputer you can connect using internet sharing.
fixed the problem
WMWifiRouter has a wifi to usb mode.
will definitely be buying it after my trial runs out.

[Q] WM 6.5 - 'Charge Only Mode'

I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!

Controlling remote PC using Teamviewer

I have a Nexus 5 and i'm willing to connect via Teamviewer to a PC.
From where I am connecting I can use a screen and WiFi, USB keyboard and mouse and Aukey 7-Port USB 3.0 (powered usb hub found here)
What is the best way to setup this for a confortable environment?
I have to stay few hours using the phones teamviewer and do stuff in the remote PC.
Few ideas I have:
- Using Samsung EDD-S20E (samsung dock with HDMI output, but might not work due to incompatibility) or similar dock
- Chromecast 2 (miracast or any other)
- DeLock 65468, slimport micro usb to HDMI.
The problem is that I need phone to be charging during teamviewer since it drains a lot of battery, and also few usb ports for keyboard + mouse + storage, I've been thinking of the next:
-usb hub + OTG in the phone.
-chromecast 2
-wireless charging the phone while use, since I cant charge it while OTG I think.
Is there a better alternative to this?
I'm not sure I even understand your question. You install Teamviewer on your PC. You install it on your phone. You have a unique id to identify the Teamviewer PC session. You can set a password on the PC Teamviewer session so that you don't need to see the temporary password on the PC screen - so you have true remote access. You start Teamviewer on the phone, put in the unique id and password and connect.
What's all the stuff about Samsung docks, HDMI, Chromecast...? It sounds as if you'd find it simpler just to buy a second laptop.

Oh maybe i wasnt clear enough, its not about the Teamviewer itself.
Its more about:
What would you do if you had to stay connected to your pc from another place a few hours a day? using your phone of course...
Thats why I asked for a "confortable setup", so I could achieve this.
Well, in that position I wouldn't use my phone - I'd get a cheap second-hand laptop. The things you mention may be possible, but look like a great deal of unnecessary hassle.
As your question has nothing to do with the google Nexus 5, you would be best served by asking here TeamViewer Forum

this is what I'd personally use. Teamviewer has the option to start even before being logged into the PC allowing you to connect then login and access files and such.

But I don't think it has the option to turn on/off the PC remotely, it can only access remotely. They want control so they don't have to leave their PC on all the time that they are gone, they want to turn it on remotely to access it remotely then turn it off when they are done.

True.
OP You need to check your Bios For a wake on alarm funtion to turn on at a specfic time of day or a wake on lan function in your bios.
Obviously the Alarm function has some limits that being that It will only turn back on at a specific time of day and you'll have to wait until then if its been shut off. Another thing you could do I mentioned above is if your bios supports a wake on lan function to enable that Plug your pc directly into the Router/Modem via ethernet. Make sure it's one that has internet access and take note of your ip address. You can find on google by searching just "IP" if your ip is not formatted like 111.222.333.444 and instead looks like a bunch of hex Characters that's your IPV6 a0dress to find your IPV4 address which you'll connect with you may need to login to your router and look around a bit its usually under something along the lines of Advanced>Connection Info/Settings and follow the steps in the video here as someone posted above.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pDjjMO3az84 Note you're going to want to use the second option as far as the android app goes because you're not going to be on your home network while being abroad(obviously). Once you get either setup a wake on alarm or wake on lan setup you can then install teamviewer. I recommend making an account then adding your PC to teamviewer and setting a custom password that you'll remember to connect to it. Also make sure the teamviewer services are on automatic as they need to be started when the machine boots on not after login.
After that you should be all set if you need further help with anything as i probably missed something just ask Also this is really messy I'm pretty tired it being almost 2am

I think these are relevant so I enabled all of them.,
And I tried the video btw. I tried to wake the pc on wifi network but it did not work :/ so all of these mean i cannot turn my pc on remote?
