Greetings S7 users!
Well, after applying APEQ software update which updateted rear camera software too I noticed a lot of hot pixels on photos taken with my Galaxy S7 camera with ISOCELL sensor. I started a thread on the best known polish Android discussion board and I found that a lot of S7 with ISOCELL sensor users experience the same problems. Issues are almost always the same: pink or red or blue or white hot pixels on photos. The problem is the most visible with HDR Mode ON, less visible with HDR Mode Auto and little visible in Pro Mode or Auto without HDR.
So... I would like to ask XDA comunity to check if you experience the same issues:
-> just take some photos with HDR Mode ON and look for red/pink/white/blue spots on your pictures. You should see them even on your phone screen with a little magnification...
The problem is related with ISOCELL sensor and APEQ software update.
Sony sensors seem to be just fine.
This how the problem looks on my sample photo:
http://i.imgur.com/mXvykuM.jpg
I put those hot pixels in rectangles just to show you how those hot pixels look like.
I think there will be a huge problem for Samsung when users will mass RMA their devices...
Thanks in Advance!
I have a few pictures taking outdoors with lots of pink pixels. Was wondering if something was wrong but it doesn't happen anymore

I guess its only some bug in hot pixels removing algorithm.. nothing to wory about. Even dlsrs have plenty of those. Does your s7 has ff camera blur issue?

I have some pink hot pixels also but only in HDR on... Havent seen them in older firmwares or so to say I didnt try to see it....needs to be fixed
Has anyone checked if this is fixed in the newest FW APF2?

I didn't have this at all so far. Running APF2 now. Nothing now too.
Got the issue on APF2. It's vissible only on night shot or pro mode.
I'm on APD1 Software on my S7 from Vodafone Germany.
Today I noticed that I have some really small black points and stripes on my camera.
No matter if I take pictures with stock camera app or with instagram for example.
If I zoom in these dots are away, so they are always at the same section.
I have Isocell sensor and I tried different camera modes.
It is there in videos too.
I cleaned the camera protection lens, but no improvement.

most camera sensors have them; typically software masks them. DSLR's its the nature of the beast. seems like an oversight in software/update.
There're a lot of hot pixels on attached jpeg file. I've noticed this effect only if ISO is set to 40. At 50 everything's OK. HDR is switched to always on.
Firmware version is G930FXXU1APD1
Sub version is MMB29K.G935FXXU1APE9
What's APEQ? Is that only for the international version?

Very well open this post LockedSGS. I also happened me, only if I use the hdr function. Is it a software or hardware problem? I hope that it is software and is resolved with the next update. My version is G935FXXU1APEQ. Greetings fellow.

Sir,did you solve your problem ?
Mine brought a galaxy s7 from a local shop without any warranty and my images are very much discolored may be mine is refurbished one, i am disappointed, software check says its isocell, can you please post some indoor and outdoor images,FULL size image please, then i can check or compare
Hi,Does anyone know is this software bug resolved in the newest update released these days?
I have latest update and the same problem, random pink dots on low light photos.
I was wondering if someone without the pink dots issue could post their software info so I could download it from sammobile.
This is my current situation and I'm having issues.
I was looking for south east europe and poland versions to download them, but I found out that they are the same as the one I have. Well, as far as I can tell..
My baseband is still apeq.

Whats the white balance settings are you using?
What scene settings are you using?
These 2 settings determine the outcome of the color tone.

White balance is set to auto and scene settings is set to none.
A request for all i9003 users, can you test the same with your cameras in daylight and post pictures here?
1st reduce the size & dimensions of your images posted in this thread 600pixel is more than sufficient to see the color cast, its a pain to download that amount of data on 2g plans.
White balance is set to auto and scene settings is set to none.

if these are the settings then instead of auto try daylight & see if that corrects the color cast or not, if not then you are having a real bug as I don't have such problems.
What firmware are you using?
Ill reduce the size mate
Im using the stock DDKB2 firmware. What about yours? CAn you post a smaple picture taken in your camera in daylight?
I have attached 2 images which are shot on auto white balance they both look good in color.
Here is the Exif info from the images

I have Kb1 that's what I got the phone shipped to me,
I have not been able to update via kies.
Reset all the camera options & then try shooting some subject with something white in it so test if it still gives you a color cast, if it does then YES there is a problem.
Your images are looking good dude, well if there is a problem is that related to hardware or software, whats your opinion
Problem could be anywhere, need to get this test done by some other users who have Kb2 on there phone.
I also notice that there is a FW version for the camera (2nd line in exif info)
mine is Firmware: fw 05.15 prm 08.56
I still request you to reset all the camera defaults & then shoot a test image & post the results. Then we ask some other user to do the same only then we will be able to conclude if its hardware or software related issue.
I just reset the camera and took some pictures, ill post it back soon

Which software, are you talking about the camera firmware?
Dont do anything as yet with the camera fw.
I was talking about this software dude,
https://market.android.com/details?id=since2006.apps.exifdroid
Shows the info about the picture taken
This is the image taken after resetting the camera
Is that wall white (distant right side) if yes then it has some uneven color cast of slight red color which suggest 2 things that either there is indeed some hardware issue or check the lens for any smudge marks which will make it work like some filter.
Clean the lens & take some thing real white from your house (can be multiple white items) arrange that on the roof or garden & shoot in full daylight.
Don't shoot against light as you have done instead the sun should be behind you or to any side but not against you. We will be able to conclude soon.
As per your image exif info we both have the same fw 05.15 prm 08.56
Some more images, unfortunately the 1st image still has the red tint, but i think it depends on the angle and the amount of light!! It cant be a hardware error, as the 2nd image is still good in the same location
These look okay, but I'd take it to Samsung and ask them to check it out, just to be sure
It does show the reddish cast,
in some shots its more in another its less,
the best method to test is what i suggested in my earlier post. your camera does seem to have a problem when I compare the images with my camera shot on auto WB.
Took my mobile to samsung service center, they said they will reflash the same firmware and it may solve the problem. I bought the mobile exactly 12 days before, Can i ask them to replace my mobile? In need of your opinion guys
Hi,
I got CM 11S flashed on my Chinese OPO, boot loader unlocked and rooted.
But the cam results are terrible.
1. Front camera though 5MP has better results.
2. Main camera, in Auto mode wit Flash set at auto, doesn't flash in darkness, if for some reason it does the pic results are so dull, creamy unsharp, despite that its a 13MP.
3. Flash sensor issues?
4. I got great results with Color OS initially......... and later when previously flashed CM 11 S over Color, they weren't that bad either..........may be by chance the the Color cam got ported over CM 11S?
5. So disappointed plan on going back to Color.
Any suggestions, recommendations,
Thanks.
Yeah, i'm not a fan of the camera. AT ALL.
Some things that bug me about the One's camera:
1) pictures look destaurated and color's don't pop.
2) exposure is too dark in almost all cases
3) sharpness is no where near my nexus's 5 stock camera.
Nexus 5's camera is MUCH better.
Unless someone can tell me how to improve this, I just hate the one's camera. sucks.

My phone's issue is cam sucks with CM 11S?
When I got it CM 11S with cm-11.0-XNPH25R-bacon-signed-fastboot OR cm-11.0-XNPH25R-bacon-signed results of cam were not bad.
But with this OPO_64GB cam sucks.
Thanks.
For the camera, I don't know what to tell you, but it sees like you just want to modify the camera shutter and exposure settings to your preference. Or you can go into the themes/app section and reflash the stock camera.

I would have to manually over expose the camera EVERY TIME i launch the camera app. Annoying.
I've already installed Google Camera. The stock OnePlus camera and some other ones from the play store.
They all give the same results.
It's fundamentally a camera sensor issue.

Yea, that sounds amiss; personally, I haven't had any noticeable issues with my camera.
But shouldn't the settings persist though, so you don't have to do it EVERY time?
Am a a bit confused........does the Color cam give bad results or CM 11S cam?
Stock OnePlus camera and Google camera have similar results.....What do you imply by stock OP cam?
Is Google cam available at GPS, should I try installing it over CM 11S?
Camera sensor issues are with Color OS?
Thanks.
Guys, it's a matter of knowing how to use a smartphone camera properly. Point and shoot just doesn't cut it for all situations.

I've used the app Perfectly Clear to help edit brightness and saturation and have been very pleased.
Again, it's a camera phone. You can't expect DSLR quality. Great lighting is key with these sensors.

I have seen some complaints but for the less than two days I have had this phone camera has been wonderful.
Outside in good light is on par with most flagships in my opinion and low light is OK but have seen few phones that are better.
Been using slimkat with Google camera and response time is great with auto mode

Hi does anyone else have a grainy and noisy front camera experience? I mean in the view finder is horrible and then when saved the picture gets kind of fixed, but still snapchat doesn't make this arrangement for example.. Of course it's more noticeable in poor lightning conditions
Nothink u can do ,all xperia z3 have same engine : Take a photo and then remove noises .The problem is snapchat only "take a photo" ,this app won't remove noised (i think its related with DMR keys algorithm)

But in a dark environment If you cover the front camera with your finger what do you see exactly, I mean is it completely dark? Would you upload a screenshot for me please? [emoji16]
If i using default camera my screen is almost perfectly black (of corse i talking about photo ,not camera viewer) ,in snapchat i have little blue noises ,its all of high ISO (if camera see low light ISO get high ,and noises become more visible) its normal for everyone ,cuz as i said snapchat can't use our algoritms to remove noises (its feature only for default camera ;/)

As i said, photos from your smartphone look corect
Sad indeed.
Guess when i finally get a Z3, I probably wont be snapchatting much because I already dont on my Moto G due to poor front camera
LOL!! You guys should check out the front camera comparison at phonearena. Z3 came last. Surprisingly in both front and rear camera comparisons....
I use the screen as flash you can turn that on in the snapchat settings. The photo's now have much better quality.
Other camera apps can use the algorithms to correct noise, snapchat can't apparently
Guys an easy fix to this Snapchat problem is just to download the app SaveMySnaps. It allows you to use the default camera to take snaps. Im sure there are alternative apps for instagram too that use the default camera.
Hi all,
2 days ago I received the S22 Ultra, migrating from the Note10+.
I noticed that the camera settings is missing the HDR option in the camera settings. It was available in the Note10+, but no longer in the S22 Ultra. In Android 11, the camera showed 'HDR' in the camera preview when HDR was enabled. In Android 12 I don't see this anymore on either the Note10+ or the S22 Ultra.
Just to be sure, does the rear camera automatically switch on HDR, or does it not support HDR for photos anymore?

You have the option to set HDR on an auto mode so the phone will know when to use it.

Yes, there was already an update available on the day it got delivered (Feb. 26.). I did move everything from my old phone first though before updating. I did not check the HDR setting before updating though. I did notice the DNS .local problem being introduced by this patch (another post I made earlier today). The camera version on my old Note10+ is 12.0.01.17 and the version on my S22Ultra is 12.0.01.47, so it is indeed a newer version.

As said by @Jairus24 there was announcement (I did not know about this until now), so the update removed the Auto HDR, I guess it will just do it on its own.
Mine is still on version 12.0.01.32 and still has the Auto HDR option:
The post from @Jairus24 crossed mine, but I think this is indeed the case, I received the March 1. update. I searched around for it, but got stuck in too many hits on Google trying to find this. Thanks for pointing it out!
Mine is 12.0.01.46 version and not HDR option !
AutoHDR is slid "on" in mine, and have all options available.
I'm using SM-S908W received February 18th, and no system or software/app updates that I can see (just Samsung Pay and a couple other pre-installed Samsung apps I don't really use).
Camera version 12.0.01.32
On Telus (Canadian carrier) updates seem to always be a month behind everyone, and updates are set automatic daily checking/download.
Does this mean HDR will be on always, or is HDR being implemented "automatically" (how the heck does it do this anyway, night shots are always garbage when I'm in auto).
12.0.01.46 not showing auto hdr
Portugal
I don't know what they did with the main camera, but in a lot of cases compared to the Note 8 in terms of HDR and even the details they took a step back. I hope the software will fix this in the future. I am very disappointed
I am on 12.0.01.50 no HDR
It appears HDR was removed with the last "update" in the US. They also changed the way WiFi is configured.
As per the reply from @Jairus24 , with an up0date making changes to camera -
The Auto HDR menu has been simplified to always provide optimal image quality regardless of the shooting environment. The ‘Auto HDR’ menu in the camera settings will be deleted after the update. If you do not want HDR shooting, you can shoot in Pro mode or turn off ‘Auto HDR’ in Expert RAW to take the desired picture.
Improved usability by adding an option to keep the used camera in portrait mode. Go to ‘Keep Settings’ in the camera settings and check the ‘Portrait Mode Lens’ item.
The shooting time in Night Mode has been increased to 30 seconds to take brighter pictures when shooting in very dark environments with the ultra-wide-angle camera fixed on a tripod.
In addition, we have made additional optimizations so that you can use the camera more comfortably, so please try it by downloading the update

So can anybody help with this disaster?
Severely cropped to not nuke the servers.
The more distant classic sunset was fine, but then we got an amazing and huge red sun just before it set. The whole ball was the colour of the edge or the stripe in this shambles of a shot.
Other than turn off AI what else should I do?
I have to say my old Mate 40 RS Porsche Edition would have got the shot no problem. Very disappointed in my new S22 Ultra.
This is one of those possibly never see again chances, gutted.
This is due to Infra Red blooming. The sensors are very sensitive to IR, so there is an IR blocking filter in the system. Unfortunately, this does not block 100% of the IR on bright objects like the Sun. You can see this effect by taking a shot of a hot electric stove burner with the camera; you don't even have to take a picture to see the effect just look at the screen. I've attached a shot here, the stove was not a bright pink to the eye, that is due to IR leaking through the filter. Because IR has a longer wavelength than Red, the light is focused by the lens farther away, and it can cause a bloom around the Sun like that. Other cameras have the same problem, and it depends on the strength of the IR filter. There are disadvantages to making the IR filter stronger like color distortion in the other colors so it is always a compromise. There isn't much that can be done about it.
edit - I have to add that taking a picture of the low Sun like that is just about the worst case and you probably won't notice it anywhere else. When the Sun is low and most of the light is being blocked so you can actually stand to look at it (still not good to stare), almost all of the IR light is still getting through, and so the IR component is a lot more than usual. You can even get the same effect on a pro DSLR.

Many thanks for the detailed reply. So turning off the AI assist stuff wouldn't have helped then. Anything in Pro mode or Expert Raw that could help?

Probably not, since it is an optical effect. You might be able to 'shop it out. On a pro camera, you can use a very small aperture which brings the IR light more into focus, but that's not an option on the phone which has a fixed aperture. I've got a very similar shot from my old Note 20 U that had the same problem. Below is a cropped in shot from an Olympus mirrorless camera that shows the same Red ring thing, just to a smaller degree. It isn't helping that the "100x" zoom works by cropping the 10X image, it amplifies small defects like that.

Only a stronger UV/IR cut filter would help.
I shoot IR/UV and full spectrum with a DSLR and RAW video cameras... Its a balance between visible light and correct look with most sensors.
Unless you use (physical) filters, nothing you can really do. Most cameras are very sensitive to IR light, and blocking IR/near IR completely wipes out a lot of deep reds and throws off colors as well. Sensors do not see at all like our eyes do.
