Problems with Nexus 5 screen - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I apologize in advance if this has been posted before, but i have had a look around and cannot see anyone else with the same problem.
I also apologize if I this is not the correct format, this is my first post here :X
My brother brought my phone to me last week with a problem with his screen (shown is this YouTube video at the start: (this is the link following the youtube.com/ part) watch?v=4pks4idq4YI ). I fixed this by hard resetting the phone and it was fine for about a week. Today, he brought it to me and the screen was like this: (this is the bit following the imgur.com part ) /MK6eJdD . The screen reacts and changes slightly to touch, and the power button turns the screen on and off. If i press and hold the power the phone turns off and vibrates (like normal, just without the choice saying power off etc.). When turned on (by holding the power button) the screen instantly returns to how it was before it was turned off, just a different shape/pattern of the stuff on the screen.
I would like to know if i need to replace the USB flex cable to fix the problem. I am fairly confident that i can do this, (as i am doing DT and electronics for GCSE), and so, if possible, I would also like to know where i should buy an official one (if this is indeed the problem). I am in the UK if that helps with the decision .
Thank you in advance,
G

iPaq 4155: hardware problem or...?

I have a 4155 that has developed the following problem: most of the times it doesn't turn on correctly. I press the power button, I see the backlight coming on but the screen stays grey (blank). Eventually I can get it back on, but only after performing a hard reset, then many, many soft resets (anywhere between 10 and 30). Then it works again for a little while, and the whole thing happens again.
The only way to avoid it is to have the screen stay on all the time, i.e. keep it plugged in and have it not turn off while on AC. If I allow the screen to turn off, chances are I'll have to do the whole reset procedure again, and it takes up to 30 minutes each time. It doesn't matter at all how well charged the battery is, and it even does it if I allow the screen to turn off while plugged in.
Of course in its present state it's just a little more than a paperwewight, not a PDA. I know that underneath it works correctly, just the display has this weird bug. I opened it up and poked inside, put it back together - no change. Does anyone have any idea? I'd really, really like to make this work again.
Thanks for any help!
(I should mention that I flashed the ROM once: I got it cheap off eBay because it was the French language version, and I flashed it with the English ROM. Worked like a charm for many months, then it developed the problem above. Don't think it's related to flashing, but thought I'd mention it anyway)

HTC Touch Pro power on button problem

Hi guys, I find this quite annoying and wish there is a mod for this. I don't know about other HTC Touch Pro owners but i find my fone quite sensitive.........it's "EASILY" turned on by a single "SHORT" press of the power button.
I didn't even hold it for 1 second, if i suddenly press or tap on it really quick, for not even a second, it turns on.
In case ppl don't understand and tell me that maybe my fone was on in the first place but just have the backlight off, and with a single tap on the power button, the backlight goes back on again. I knew that already. But what the problem really is, is that it's totally off, and when i tap the power on button, it turns on, i.e it vibrates and shows the welcome screen and all that other startup animation.
Is there a way to increase the delay of the finger-press on the power button? Coz it's so annoying that it gets turned on when i don't want it to, especially since this fone's weakness is that it hogs battery even though i've already applied tons of tweaks etc to lower the performance and increase battery life......
Oh and i have another problem, i find the signal kinda weak, is there a program or tweak to increase the signal?? Coz on my old phone Sony Ericsson W950i, the signal is great and I never have bad signal problems with it. But using HTC Touch Pro, i have this problem. This only happens when i'm at Uni, but it's not like they have bad reception or signal blockers there like how schools or colleges have. Just that when i'm inside buildings and there're tons of other buildings around, i can't send the txt coz of bad signals and it's bloody annoying, but using my W950i works fine.....
also I noticed that when i type a txt message using the hardware keyboard, it seems to fail to send most of the time, but only when i'm in UNI. But if i switch to the software keyboard, the one that you use ur fingers or stylus, then when i send the message it often works compare to using hardware keyboard.......any ideas?
Problem No 1: Try Touch Lock Pro
Problem No 2: Try to burn the newest RadioROM.
thx but i'm not trying to lock my phone, so i don't think TouchLock Pro is what i need.......
My Raphael turns also on after pressing the power button for a little few moment. With touchlock Pro you can prevent that you mistake your Raphael. I hope you can understand what I write in my "own" english
Ok so i've got it installed now and went through all the settings but couldn't find anything that can delay the power-on button press, I still have this problem. The app is a screen-lock app, there aren't any options regarding to power-on delays.......
plz tell me what settings etc to use.
I've never said that you can fix your problem with TouchLock Pro. With this you prevent to use your Raphael when you press your power button accidentally.
ya but that's only useful when my fone is on and it locks the phone but i'm trying to prevent my fone from turning on in the first place if i accidentally press the power on button for not even 1 second, because then it will turn on and i don't want that.
same problem here...the phone I thought I had turned off was back on, because accidently it got touched by something else in my luggage.
The only solution which to me is unsatisfactory, is to take out the battery so that it cannot power up.
C'mon...there has to be a better solution than this, no???

wow yay finally someone else other than me also report having the same problem, boy am i glad to know that i'm not the only one having this problem, i thought it was just something wrong with my fone and not all HTC Touch Pros....
i can't believe there aren't any results on Google, no forum discussions or solutions to this whatsoever. Also, nobody seemed to report this problem or come up with a solution on XDA as well as other forums i use like PPCgeekz or WMusers etc.........which is odd considering how this problem is quite annoying, that if u suddenly power on the fone by accident, it can drain battery life and god knows HTC Touch Pro has a crap battery life.............
I think that htc has done a bad job testing the powerbutton on the tp2.
There are some other things like weith, thikness and batterylife that could be improved but the powerbutton issue is realy a BIG bug.
Why they didn't make a slidebutton or a timeout between push and activation?
A dobble tap on the powerbutton could also be a solution.
The next rom shoold have a improvement about this button.
People, please react on the powerbutten problem so someone can fix this.
Thanx

Leaving the Touch Pro (Raphael) for some minutes without battery will stop the clock. So, when you put back on the battery and power up the device, the clock will display the wrong time. The time when you remove the battery.
This is hardware related.
Can produced different symptoms though.
Facts Behind the Power Button
If take a look at the inside of the powerbutton, there are 2 points making contact when you press the button. If you press it, the software will recognize this and the screen will turn off.
If you press it long enough you'll get the "QuickShutdown" message.
But, if water/alchohol/liquid gets underneath the button, the 2 points may be making contact, because water/alcohol conducts.
The button is very weak. Due to this, it may not properly work if you have used it for a long time.
As a result, despite the fact that you hit hibernate/sleep/suspend on the hardware power button = yes, the screen fades to black. But IT IS STILL ON. That explains the battery being drained.
Solution:
Open the phone hardware. Clean the power button connector manually.

i heart everyone talking about the sleep of death and to be honest, i havent really experienced this, but i definatley do have an intermitent power on and off button problem on my touch pro 2.
i read on some other forum that it could possibly be the slider that is casuing the problem. but to be honest, the button its self feels fine and looks fineand when i does work it works a treat. i havent had any water damage done to it what so ever. so im not sure , i am new too all this self help mobile stuff. so please excuse my ignorance. Ive doen the usual hard reset, button works for a few hours then calls it a day. soft rest, was working up until this week. i cant get ot to boot up again, while fiddling with the batter and a power lead. but the power button is so intermitent its driving me nuts. id be so grateful if anyone could shine any form of light on this. thanks in advance

Continuous reboot with HTC One S - almost certainly a HARDWARE problem - any ideas?

This is kind of a last resort - to see if anyone has any experience with this problem. I have Googled around for similar problems and haven't quite found the same issue anywhere.
OK, so let me emphasise, this is not a bootloop - there is clearly some kind of hardware or firmware problem where the phone is interpreting the power button as being pressed.
I can power on, and the phone will get to various points before then rebooting, as though the power button were being held down:
- often it only gets to the splash screen and then reboots
- sometimes I can get it into recovery, but whatever option I happen to highlight (I have about a second or two to do so) just gets selected as though the power button were pressed
- sometimes the phone will even boot and can be used for a little while (enough even for me to back up the files off it), but sooner or later a message will pop up saying something along the lines of "Continue holding power button to reset", again - OBVIOUSLY the system thinks the power button is pressed down.
The problem happened while the phone was under guarantee, the repair place kept it for weeks, eventually "replaced the motherboard" (so they say) and it seemed to work for a time. Now the problem is back and there is no more warranty. A reputable repair place has had a look and said they can't do anything.
I have tried taking the top cover off and fiddling with the microswitch (only thing I could think of) to see if there is anything obvious going on there, but that doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem.
Any ideas, before we ditch the phone as a $XXX loss?
Just to update - I managed to catch the phone when it wasn't going crazy, go into fastboot and flash CM10.2. Could've restored to stock I suppose, but I am concerned that may somehow have been the cause of the problem in the first place.
As of 12 hours later the phone is behaving itself. Can't be sure a new ROM is what did it, but fingers crossed...

Soft- or Hardware Defect M8

Hey Guys,
I´m no English native so please be patient. I`m although no noob with Android and hardware but can`t figure out some strange defects on my M8. Hope for help!
So here is the story: A week ago I woke up late. My Phone was stuck in Bootloader and I couldn’t select any option. Only my Volume Up Button did change the marking
of options. Strangely it did so in the wrong way. Means Volume Up changed up to down. Pushing the Power Button shortly to select an option didn`t do a thing at all.
But pushing it for long did what it should: It shut the Phone down. As I restarted it I again got stuck in bootloader. By trying out different ways I managed to somehow
boot in safe mode. It took me some time to figure out that my Volume Down Button was stuck and was therefore the reason for the strange booting procedure.
It´ll get more strange from here on so please remember: Bootloader, only Volume Up Button working but in the wrong way, Power Button only reacts to long periods
of pushing, probably Volume Down Button stuck.
In safe mode the Power Button worked fine again and did respond to all kinds of pushes as it should. Volume down did not do a thing (As expected). Theory seems
confirmed. To rule out software issues I did a full reset in TWRP which I had to start from cmd on my desktop as my phone still did not take any selections in bootloader.
And additionally flashed a new rom (Skydragon GPE 5). Didn´t change my problem at all so I went to bed. My phone was nearly powered out and I forgot to plug it.
In the morning I found it dead so I plugged it in and booted it up. Strange thing: It booted completely normal. All Buttons were working. Yes, even the Power Down
Button. Now I realized that Wi-Fi isn`t working which could be because of my old firmware and the new rom. So I started to learn how to update the firmware - which
took me 15 minutes. As I got back to my Phone to get it started the Volume Button was stuck again. Now it finally has to be some hardware defect right? I found the
spare parts on Ebay and wanted to give it one last shot before I placed the order. So risked to get stuck in safe mode or bootloder (again) and pushed the Power
Button down hard. But surprise my phone decided to open a new chapter of strangeness: Nothing happened at all. Now the Power Button wasn`t working any more.
No reaction to short pushes and what’s completely new, no reaction to long pushes too. So I avoided restarts form that point on and used my phone for the last days
in that condition. Decided I could life without two of the three hardware buttons But as I could not flash the firmware without restarting the phone no Wi-Fi starts
to bother.
To be honest: I don`t know what to do! I don`t want to waste money on spear parts if there’s the option of some really strange software failure. A defect over night
without any physical forces aside from really high room temperatures seems unlikely to me. Even more if you count in the strange healing over night and the factor
that it not only broke down again but although spread it´s desesse to the power button. I`m really out! Any Ideas?

I did see it more as a general Problem not only related to the divice. But thanks will try!

Please help me with my phone.

Hey everyone who reads this.
I'd like to start my topic with apologising if I post this in the wrong section.
So, I have a LG Spirit H440N LTE for about 3 years now, maybe a little less. I've always taken good care of it, both physically and in updates / security wise aswell.
My phone has been working flawlessly until the last 2 days. 2 days ago i was charging my phone, and when it vibrated (meaning its 100%) I pulled the cable off, and pressed the power button (power button locks - unlocks the screen) the screen didn't turn on. I was like "wow that's strange" but didn't care much, i just kept pressing the button every 5-6 seconds, nothing.
At that point I pulled the battery out, let it sit for a short time and then put it back, start the phone, I felt the vibration (meaning it's starting up) but no screen, so my first idea was that I need to get a new firmware and completely reinstall my phone, as it seems like it got bricked.. for no reason, by itself ? Strange thing but I accepted it and literally been googling for 9 hours now and I find more and more issues.
After I got LG FlashTool, drivers, and even 3 different firmwares, I wanted to start the phone in download mode to start upgrading, but even though I held down "volume up for 5 seconds and then put the usb cable in" nothing happened, no screen, my PC didn't recognise the phone either.
So I got a little bit mad and pulled the cable out from the phone, I wanted to remove the battery, but out of nowhere the phone suddenly started loading in, screen working completely fine, i could do whatever i want, so my first thing was to do a hard reset. After the hard reset I set up my usual stuff (important apps etc) and I locked the screen so my battery won't go down. Little did I know, I ****ed up again, because ever since that happened, I can't get my screen to work again. I tried everything I could but my PC still doesn't recognise the phone (even after a LOT of drivers being installed), charging the phone doesn't do anything. Regardless if I remove - put back the battery no screen, no screen in download - hard reset mode either, it's just completely black.
I'd like to have some sort of help, because I am just completely out of ideas, I really feel like a firmware change could fix the phone, but if the computer doesn't recognise it, I have no idea what to do.

You might be having hardware issues, such as a faulty power button. If you are the type of user that frequently presses the power button to lock/unlock the screen, this leads to excessive wear on the button components, this is why some users prefer to use the "tap to sleep" and "tap to wake" feature, to avoid wearing the power button out. On my LG, this feature is called "KnockOn", it's located in Accessibility settings.
