Just read a review for G5, while its not my cup of tea it does wipe the floor with s7 in gaming due to less throttling and better coding.
http://www.techspot.com/review/1175-lg-g5/page4.html
It just super annoying
I think the solution will arrive when there is a custom kernel available. Then you will be able to choose which governor to use.
I think we won't have to wait too much...

They just found the one benchmark where the G5 is actually good and build an article around it. I have an xbox one and a ps4 so I couldn't care less about the s7 edge throttling my freecell. Have you even tried the G5? It is fast, the camera is great and that's it. I bought one on Thursday and posted it on Kijiji on Tuesday.
Sent from my SM-G935W8 everything stock...
the point is the Note 5 was the perfect gaming device for me, it the only phone that rank tekken 6 at 60fps on QHD resolution and never get too hot, fps didn't drop at all!!!
After 6.0.1 update it all went to hell, same with S7 and the S7 is capable of much more.
Fake for me because I had z5 and g5 and this device was hotter then s7 edge check YouTube g5 going to 46 Celsius degree s7 edge max to 40 and throttling is bigger on g5
Exynos on pe9
First run 32k I basemark x on hight
Second run : 18k
3 run: 26 k
4 run 32k
5 run 32k
6 run 32k
7.8.8.10 run 32 k
On outside with auto brightest
Sooo yeah phone was cool maybe 35 Celsius
benchmarks means nothing, test it in real games. it barely plays tekken dark resurrection and stutter endlessly, if ppsspp not crashing due to samsung stupid driver error, on Note 5 it works 60 fps ALL THE TIME!!!
All until sammy 6.0.1, that update ruined gaming for me on both devices.
I fix my problem with need for speed with bad fps.
Try this: open game tuner (instal it if dont have it)
Go to setings and then to aplication category. Search for your game and select that is not a game.
Then try again and see 60fps+

This trick will also prevent it from changing screen modes.
I think that made the trick that I hopelessly waited for so long, thank you, I will try it more to obtain a conclusive result but, currently my problems seem to have gone
Didn't notice any difference in games like Temple Run Oz - a game which used to run fluently with highest settings on a Nexus 2013... It's unplayable, regardless if set as game or not.
Changing to governor to performance temporarely fixes the problem completely though.

As another poster said, it doesnt work.
Marvel Champions still drops down to 30fps lock pretty damn quickly, killing the fluidity of it.
Looking like custom kernels are the only way to fix this mess that Samsung have created.

There is no need for a custom kernel. You can just disable GameMode with Package Disabler Pro.

it's not working for everyone, i disabled it and it didn't help at all, my games are cpu intensive and GPU intensive, but ran perfect on Note 5 before 6.0.1, there is no hope, samsung never gonna fix it.

Did nothing sadly.
Custom kernel seemed to just make it look like 30fps on crack (responsiveness of 60fps, with judder of 30fps).

Report it to Samsung if you haven't yet. I hope they're aware of this issue already though, and this is (luckily) a pure software issue though, so no need to freak out

i reported, posted two different video's on youtube, went through several sammy channels, and they said they will forward it further... but tbh nothing will happen.
I did the same with Note 5 on 21 Feb, when it got 6.0.1 and performance in games were poor, very very poor, going back to 5.1.1 made it perfect again, again samsung will never care for it.
its killing me on marvel contest of champions. thiking about returning the damn phone and that sucks... otherwise i love it but if u spend an hour a day or more gaming it becomes unbearable

that true, i wouldn't advise gaming on S7, it pure crap at that, on software level, at least with root u can make it managable, idk how sammy fail so hard at a simple task...
You actually need a custom kernel, set big cores to blu_active governor and everything works at 60fps
ondemand seems to do the trick too, but heck we need to root for this.

Hello!
I'm wondering how this phone perform in heavy apps and games.
I've searched for gameplay videos on youtube but haven't found any. Maybe my searching skills sucks. Can anyone here make a gameplay video? Or link to an existing gameplay video?
I'm about to buy LG Optimus 2X, Samsung Galaxy S2 or HTC Sensation. So I'm just looking for some answers.
Does anyone know any LG O2X vs SGS2 vs HTC Sensation article/video?
Hi.
You can find some gaming performance on this video after min 13:00.

What happend @ 14:26 ? Since he went to the Task Mangager I guess he didn't have enough free RAM to run the game. But shouldn't a phone with that amount of RAM don't run low on RAM?
Would this phone be the right phone for me if I want a phone that can run EVERY game that exists now. And every coming games for about 1 year?

The Sense UI is a real memory hog. It certainly looks nice, but it takes up a lot of memory. That's why I'm hoping HTC unlocks the bootloader on the Sensation soon than later.
i have been using the desire hd version for those games (cracked apk's)
and what happened @14mins mark was: that game is supposedly made only to run on tegra 2 devices but somehow this guy has found a workaround for it that still is a bit buggy !
about the ram: dont worry u wont run out of ram !
Alright! Thanks.
How much free RAM would it be possible to get? Without rooting or change rom. How much RAM would I save by maybe turn off some animations ?
Like I said before. I wanna be able to run heaviest games that exists now perfectly. And the coming games for a while. Is this the right phone then?

I guess it's quite good on gaming. But maybe gaming works better on another phone.
I guess that playing games eats battery on every phone But I can charge it while I'm playing.
Ah I got a question now. HDMI works on every TV, but it only charge the phone if the TV supports MHL? Is there any adapter, so I can charge it AND using HDMI without a TV that have MHL.

Yes they do have such adapters that allow you to do that which should be coming out soon. I believe I saw one in a Galaxy S II demo video a couple months ago that had two microUSB ports: one for the MHL connection and one for the phone charger.

He was trying to run a game optimized for Tegra - for some unknown reason it didn't launch on the first attempt (black screen), therefore he launched the task killer and force closed the game. He did not kill any other applications. After that, he proceeded and (this time successfully) launched the game a second time.
This definitively wasn't RAM related as there was still plenty of free space left.

Ah okay
The LG O2X does have randomly reboots. This one have a death grip and the camera app crashes. Samsung Galaxy S2, seems to be so plastic and slippery but that phone seems to be quite stable.
HTC Sensation doesn't have USB OTG.
All the phones probably have more bugs but that's a few of them. This is driving me crazy.
Is there a way to turn Sense animations off? That might help memory use and performance.

The search doesn't do anything, the video I saw him load angry birds with no mention of dungeon defenders. Although I asked if anyone tried it, not if there were videos of it. The game runs smooth on my SGS in single player, but in multiplayer it can get really laggy. He just showed that it boots fast pretty much.

First one... My point was single player vs multiplayer on dungeon defenders is way different on the SGS phones (which are listed as "mid range" for their specs, and the only thing better is Tegra2s).
It's not essential, I just can't find much info any where on the net about it (then again it's hard to find as typing "dungeon defenders sensation" brings up tons of forums that discuss both dungeon defenders and sensations but separately) and I have read the SGS2 (which isn't really an option for me, but I am presuming the Hercules will be similar) has problems with gaming. I don't think that will persuade me one way or the other but figured I would just drop the question in a gameplay thread.
I like the qHD screen, but I love my amoled... The benchmark comparisons is sort of worrisome as well, but I might end up with a sensation either way, as long as the bootloader gets unlocked.
I am on stock 2.3.6. I installed 1.2 apk and it really lags alot.
Xperia play unrooted and stock seems to play it quite smoothly, nexus S is more powerful so surely it should run smooth??
I have the same problem and I also like to know how to fix it.. The game runs reaply badly for my usual gaming habits. I use Matrix kernel @ 1.46GHz and the latest CM9 nightly. I get really high bench scores for 4.0.3 and overall performance kicks the ass of my friends' stock Galaxy SII I-9100.

I have generally found the general section to be most responsive. That method you are saying is via root and I am not rooted.
I always played it on mute anyway, and after deleting the audio files i got a massive jump in performance (audio was being processed even with volume at 0). Personal preference, but a noticeable fps jump.
So I guess the game isnt optimized for powerVR?? It seems to run fine on adreno 205, this is disappointing.
I mainly want to play it for the nostalgic bit and the audio is really important part of it.
The nostalgia value of my GTA3 experience was with a sound bug that forced the rain to play constantly. Not really the highlight of the game for me
The sound on the Nexus S seems kind of delayed and i've noticed many games that slow down a little as sounds are meant to kick in. I don't know exactly why, maybe mediaserver isn't given good enough priority. This seems to be the same issue that plagued my GTA3 adventures though.

perhaps being rooted is the reason I have yet to experience the problems you describe. I play gta and games which are more graphic intensive than gta with np.
I don't think the processor is to blame for your inability to play the game. The ns processors have proven to be more than capable of handling most processes. Rather, the stock software does not allow the hardware to reach its full potential. In other words, the nexus s is a peacock you; you've got to let it fly.

I havent experienced lag in any other game and I have played a few. Asphalt 6 runs smooth as well.
And btw my audio runs perfect and never stutters.
I saw youtube video of overclocked nexus S running GTA3 and even that had performance issues.
just install 1.3, i used to have major lag on 1.2 on my nexus s but on 1.3 i have no lag. Huge improvement!

renaming the "audio" folder into "audio1" made the game much much smoother. i don't mind the missing sound. But isn't there a way to make it run even better? i still experience some massive lag problems...
Huge gain in performance by deleting the Audio folder. Thanks for the tip, now I can enjoy this game.

If you honestly think that your quadrant score makes your phone with a single A8 cortex core faster than two A9 cores there is something seriously wrong with you. Software tweaks can make up to 1% difference in actual performance.

Hello all!
Here is my mini review of the game.
So the game is great...outstanding graphics etc. Things that need to be fixed...Performance. It is laggy and not only on the Note.
So if it lags on the GS3 then I expect an update to fix it soon...or at least I hope
Also, it wouldn't hurt if people actually moved their mouths during cut scenes!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it.
Dont forget to watch in HD
The sixaxis touch profile is attached to the post as well. Stock DPI.
Regards
ive got this game on my gnote using the miui rom but its extremely laggy even if im oerclocked to 1.6 Ghz
MIUI is based on CM9/AOKP not Samsung ROMs correct?
If so, that is normal. Currently those roms cannot match the speed of Samsung ones specially since the kernal I am using has an overclocked GPU.
I am a CM9 fan from my Captivate days but for the NOTE, it is still not on par sadly.
Running 4.0.4 Classic rom with Notecore v7 EX
This game lags terribly and heats up the phone so much near the camera area, its crazy...
Tested it out on my wives Ipad 2 and it runs like a dream, looks better and also sits in multitask area and opens again no problem, why the hell with a 1.6mhz dual core super machine can we not get it to run anywhere near as good as bloomin god I hate apple, but they always get it right
Is not optimized for android. Check the GS3 having the same lag. If that one with a quad core and faster GPU cannot handle it then you know is the game. I hope Gameloft fixes it soon though as the lag does take away from the fun :\
my CPU is ocd to 1.6 and GPU to 400mhz (notecore v7, cleanote 3.1 rom), still laggy as hell. spent the last hour to tweak the setting using chainfire 3d, trying different plugins. and it seems better, but maybe its just a placebo effect.
def, need an update for performance...
I dont even try with chainfire. For now, Notecore is as good as it gets. The only thing that made me smile was seeing the GS3 with the same issues...a little bit of hope I mean, it still plays fine but I rather wait and play it better...hopefully.
To be honest even my newly updated Lets Golf 3 lags like hell, even though im OC'd to 1.6 with Notecore, I suppose its down to the shear size of the screen the graphics are having to push too.
Not sure these huge 3D games are ever going to run well on our notes
Nova 3 , Mass Effect 3 , Real Racing 2, etc..all run super smooth. Have you tried those?
Also, is screen resolution not size that matters.
What ROM you using?
Sent from a galaxy note far far away
Clean Note latest.
Aha, used to use clean note, was fantastic, will return to it
Sent from a galaxy note far far away
Sweet. Post back if you can, to see if you got some improvement.
Tried Cleanote 3.1 and Classic also tried stock ICS and GB still all lag pretty bad...
Then I stumbled across this rom
AniDroid-N7000 ICS ROM
This game certainly runs the smoothest, with a few lags but not as bad as the others i have tried, also tested Lets golf and it runs superbly smooth, not sure what he has done with this ROM, but it works for me.

agreed. what dev's do is just port the game over to android instead of starting from scratch thus giving android devices a bad name if the game does not properly run on android platforms. A quad core SIII should be able to handle this game with no lags or whatsoever. The galaxy note is not far behind the SIII so we should be able to play the game smoothly, a few fps drops is acceptable

Did you try the OCed kernel with Cleannote ?
I have tried that ROM you mentioned and the performance was not close to CleanNote with the OCed kernel in any of the highend games I tried before.
Its weird I tried Cleanote last night with OC Notecore EX ver 7 and this game ran exactly the same as when I tried it with Classic ROM with the same Notecore.
Now this morning i am testing AniDroid-N7000 ICS ROM and my findings are very much better, cant explain why, would love to know. I can actually play this game now and enjoy it, Ok its not quite as smooth and nice as the IPAD version but then thats not our Notes fault I guess, its down to the production of the game on Android, would love to hear others experiences with other roms.
Another point with Dead Trigger I was finding graphics set to high I would occasionally get screen freezes, but with the AniDroid rom it runs smooth, not had a screen freeze.
That is very odd indeed. I just played Dead Trigger for a while yesterday with the very high settings (Tegra 3) without a hiccup. In fact, that will be my next video
Gotta love how everyone's experience can be so different even with the same phones.
What OC settings do you use ?
I just leave Notecore defaults. Sometimes change to pegasusq maybe but everything else I leave as default for the OC kernel.
So yeah Samsung said that it's integrated in the S7 and S7 edge, but what does that mean right NOW? I still haven't noticed any improvements in gaming performance, and games still drain the same amount of battery (as they say it improves performance in gaming and battery life, also it's said that the new TouchWiz uses or will use the Vulkan API, is it already being used or what?). What exactly should we expect and when?
My questions might not be well asked, but you get what I want to know

This post explains it pretty well, basically it's a new way to boost graphics performance and harness the full power of the CPU. It translates into more responsive game play, more fluid animations and a slicker/snappier touchwiz.

It will depend on devs implementing it when building their games, I'm not sure which ones/if any use it at the moment.
I think it's helped a lot with the optimisation of touchwiz which is noticeably improved although this could also be due to the 4GB ram and newer CPU in the S7.
I believe android N is supposed to add native support for the vulkan api so perhaps it will be more apparent when it comes.

I think it's helped a lot with the optimisation of touchwiz which is noticeably improved although this could also be due to the 4GB ram and newer CPU in the S7.
I believe android N is supposed to add native support for the vulkan api so perhaps it will be more apparent when it comes.

I'm actually trying now to play Vainglory which is supposedly using Vulkan API, and I can't deny it, it runs smoother than a lot of games I have including clash royale, hearthstone and subway surfers.. even though it looks demanding.. Also the phone isn't overheating much like it does on clash royale and battery drain is normal.. I don't know if it's actually thanks to Vulkan or if the game runs like this on other phones as well.

Nice one, it certainly sounds like its running well although hard to confirm its purely down to Vulkan, without being able to enable and disable it on the handset itself. I suppose the way to test would be to run it on an S6 or an HTC 10 for comparison.

After almost a year of your post, I am also still looking for this information. Have you found what you are looking for? I am now in nougat with a game that "said" support vulkan api, but my analysis, cpu work is still high and gpu work is still low.

Sorry mate, I got rid of the S7.
Hello there happy Op7 owners
In 3 days is my 40th birthday and I am in the search of a present for myself - a new smartphone
But, i searched the world for eons (i mean, the internet for a few weeks) for a device capable of playing full speed 60 fps, a certain collection of games.
I asked owners of Pocophone, Mi9, S9, OP6 to test this little game for me, and the results, while promising, were not the full speed that i want. All these phones are capable of runing the game, on paper, but the CPU throttling destroys the performance after a short while. The game needs a big core to run as efficient as it can.
All my research led me to OP7 which apparently, seen from tests with CPU throttling app, has an amazing way of keeing the big core full speed without throttling, or with very minimal throttling.
So, please help me confirm this is the chosen one (...or not) by testing for me the rom Espgaluda 2 (i can provide it in pm if needed, though is easy easy to find in google), using Retroarch emulator (PlayStore) with Mame 2015 core (2015!). The core is downloaded inside the app from Load Core menu. Don't forget to activate On Screen fps :good:
If played for like 5 minutes, we should have an ideea of performance. If one could record with a second phone the test, it would be perfect!
Thanks so much and forgive my enthusiast
That's minimum what I got lol. Constantly 60FPS.

Wow man! Could you please confirm that the smoothness remains even after playing more than 5 minutes?
And, very important; Are you rooted? Any special CPU related tweaks or just stock 100%?
Thankss!!

I tried it a few minutes and it was still great. Don't remember 5 or 10 minutes.
Yes I'm rooted with bluespark kernel, but I bet its the same with stock kernel, because there is no overclock with bluespark, so far I know.
