Not Able To Root Bok3 - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Android Development

Alrighty. Im pissed. But not at the Dev's...
I have been trying to root my Verizon GS5 on 5.0 BOK5 (OK5) for about 3 hours now.
When I run the root.bat i get this message/error:
"adb is not recognized as an internal or external command"
then the instructions
Press any key to continue...
So i press enter to continue and it pops up saying it can't find Odin.exe. I click OK and it runs again, can't find Odin.exe.
I have tried:
Downloading Odin separately
Reinstalling the drivers twice
Installing Android Studio SDK (to try to fix the adb error)
Running as administrator
Agressive Googling alternative methods
Crying inside
Re-Extracting the downloadable folder
Using the root2.bat file included and following all THOSE instructions which give me the same 2 errors.
ANY ideas? Please? Im f*cking dying here.

Just going out on a limb here. Do you have Andy or Blurstacks installed? If so, remove them. Have you tried to going in developer mode and revoke USB Debugging and reselect it and verified that the PC Authorization popped up on your phone.you tried a different PC because I've read where GeTex and others used another PC due to issues with rooting. Oh, have you turned off reactivation and checked the MD5 of your download(s).

Bricked my phone, totally my fault help.

This is a a new one from what I have seen, after several random restarts I flashed back to stock and was able to install the jh7 update. I rooted with z4root. I wanted to enable sideloading and used a guide that allowed you to change the settings.db file in sqlite and reinstall to the settings folder under dbdata. The instructions were to delete the file and so I did, but to my horror I was not able to past the new file into the directory using root explorer. Knowing that something bad was going to happend I restarted anyway and low and behold, the phone no longer boots past the S screen. The screen goes black and the buttons on the bottom turn on but thats all you get. I tried the hold volume buttons and plug in. I also tried hold volume buttons and power. I tried to make my own jig using three 100 ohm resistors as shown on youtubne and nothing gets me into download or recover modes. I have ordered a jig from a guy over and androidforums hoping for user error in my jig attempt. Anyone have any suggestions, my build is 1009 rev .04. My computer does recognize the the partitions when I plug it, but of course I can not mount. Is there a way in either windows or linux to force a mount, and to get into the file system to restore the back up I made. Without this settings.db file will I even be able to enter recovery or download mode? Thanks for any help you can give.

Can't you get into download mode through vol up + vol down + usb cord? That's used by sbl.bin, which shouldn't be affected.

A) this is not a brick, your phone still powers on
B) if you were rooting, you should have enabled USB debugging before attempting to do so, so when you turn your phone on, plug the USB in and use adb from the android sdk to get into download mode. "adb reboot download"

Might as well be a brick. The root went fine, everything was good till I deleting the settings file. What I am hoping for is a way to force mount the internal memory if possible and cut and paste the back up copy in.
you just need to go through the various methods to get into download mode.
pull battery -> Pull sim card -> Insert battery -> hold power up and down while plugging in the USB with Odin already open
adb should work in recovery and likely where the phone is hanging during boot as well.

if you have the setting.db file saved on your computer you can do an adb push.
I am not really sure of adb, I downloaded the android development kit, and it told me I needed the Java SDK, so I downloaded and installed that. But the development kit tells me Java is not installed.

I am assuming that you are on a 64bit windows.
the android sdk installer is looking for the 32bit version of java, so go download and install the java jdk/sdk for 32bit windows.
I am not able to put my phone into debug mode will adb still work?
Also do you have to be in debug mode for Odin if so then I guess I am really screwed.
You do not need to have it in debug for odin and adb is enabled in recovery regardless of debug setting.
Well that is very good to hear, now if I could only get into recovery mode.
Well good news, I followed this dude's tutorial and am back. Thanks for all the replies guys.

[Q] adb is not working, even in Emulator on the Galaxy Tab (P1000)

Okay here is the thing, I am a bit of an advanced user, and have been flashing ROM's for quite a while, so i am not a noob and I have already tried everything in the book to fix my problem.
Info:
1- Drivers installed on Windows 7 and have been working for the past 4 months.
2- USB Debugging ticked
3- Windows recognizes the Galaxy Tab 7" GSM (P1000 International)
Problem:
1-Running "adb shell" in adb results in: error: device not found
2-CWM Restore stops at android_secure.img not found and aborts.
How did it happen (Detailed):
1- Was on Overcome 2.0.1 "Hermes" and found out that there was an update on kies from someone.
2- Decided to restock
3- Flashed P1000JPJM5 (I already did that quite a few times and no problems ever occurred from that)
4- When i restocked i wanted to root, so i went into settings>Application>developement> and ticked USB Debugging
5- Plugged in USB and I opened up Super One Click Root v1.7 and hit Root, however, Nothing happened and it was "Waiting for device" forever.
6- tried Super One Click root v1.9 with the same result
7- Opened adb and typed "adb shell" and got error: device not found.
8- I downloaded Better Terminal app from the market and tried "adb shell" and i got "Adb not found" as a result
9- I wanted to root my device to use the Bootloader Batch and change my protected boot loaders
10- tried everything, Restore factory from 3e Recovery, Doing the same from Setting>Privecy, Flashing the same ROM Over and Over again with no luck
11- learned later that flashing ChainFire's Gingerbread P1000XXJMQ is safe on protected boot Loaders so i did that
12- the problem persisted and i just cant use adb
13- I had a CWM Backup done so i thought doing a restore might solve the problem, but that resulted in a failure in restore. it stops at android_secure.img not found and aborts restore.
If anyone kow's a solution or at least knows what might have gone wrong Please shed some light on how to go about this issue.
Thanks
While the device is plugged in, go to device manager and delete/uninstall the device. Should ask you if you want to delete the driver files also, check the box and go.
After that it will probably ask you to restart, restart the computer and reinstall the device with the google drivers.

Did you at least try what I suggested?
I can't get my galaxy tab to be seen by adb either. At least not since upgrading to Gingerbread.
I'm using the
"sprint_p100_Samung_GALAXY_Tab_USB_Drivers.msi" file from the Samsung web site.

[Q] rooting inspire questions

Hello everyone I'm in the dinc2 forums. I'm a marine and the other day I was showing a guy I work with my s-off rooted dinc2 running miui and he immediately was interested. Ace Hack Kit
That will walk you through the root/s-off/unlock process. It's been VERY much simplified over time, now it's just a 1 step process. Read the effen manual a few times before you start - but like I said, at this point it's very straight-forward.
Once installed hit up the MIUI thread. Basically you'll download the ROM to your SD, boot to recovery, perform a wipe, and flash the ROM
And thank you for your service and dedication to this wonderful country of ours!
He said the adb drivers won't connect
Any specific error messages? At what point is this happening? Is he trying to run the hack kit or just trying to access an ADB shell?
The hack kit contains all necessary adb files/drivers
Make sure he's done all of this:
Make sure HTC USB Drivers for Android are installed (included in the Hack Kit @ tools/windrivers)
Disable all malware detection, including Windows Defender
Uninstall HTC Sync
Uninstall Droid Explorer
Uninstall iTunes or stop service
Uninstall Other phone pda or tablet software
We just tried on our lunch we disabled everything the HTC drivers were already installed with sync uninstalled. We were at the pre-step where you run the command as an admin and the command window comes up for a second and closes itself. Does his phone need temp root to run the kit?
trouble rooting my phone
when i run the hack as admin on windows 7 it give an error message this is what the error message says
check adb connectivity
shad0fox04/2011
service not running
error error error
phone not plug in or driver not installed or usb debugging not enable
error error error
pres any key to continue the it just cut off i checked all of that and everything is good to go so what is the problem lol
did u ever find out y adb wont connect im having d same problem

Has he by any chance tried a different USB port? And is the phone in charge only mode, it's not mounting itself as a disk drive automatically? I don't know how feasible it might be, but if he has another computer available try running it there and see if you get any different results. At least then we might be able to narrow down better whether it's the software, the computer, or the phone.

Another simple thing that I have to ask about...you guys did extract all the contents of the hack kit somewhere on your computer, correct? You're not trying to run it from the .zip?
If it is extracted,
go to the tools\win\ directory.
Hold Shift and Right-Click in an empty spot, select "open command window here"
type "adb devices" and hit Enter
You should see 12 alpha-numerics listed under "List of devices attached"
If you don't see anything under this, then for some reason adb isn't recognizing your phone is plugged in. In which case I'd try a different USB port or computer

ADB Offline and no access to bootloader

A few days ago I've tried using ADB but it said my device is offline. Earlier I tried ADB over network. Again, it said my phone is offline. So I wanted to see if I can get ADB access from the bootloader. Surprize: I can't get into the bootloader. If I turn my phone off and press Volume Down + Power, it just boots.
Now, my phone is working good, I just wanted adb access to do that darn EFS backup. And what's up with that "can't get into bootloader" stuff? I did it fine and dandy when I rooted my phone..
EDIT: well, since I can not do the backup the normal way, I just downloaded the efs folder as a zip. and dev/block/. Is it as effective as the normal way?

It is Vol-Up + Power for bootloader. And you can't have adb access in bootloader mode. Only fastboot access.
Ok but why isn't adb working? Why does it always say it's offline?

It could be that you installed some software/driver that overrides a working USB driver.
Try install Google USB driver from Android SDK Tools.
Install Android SDK Tools
When SDK Manager runs, select Google USB Driver, see attached pic
If missed, run SDK Manager again as Administrator
Also, make sure you turn on Developer options and "check" Andoid (USB) debugging option in Developer options setup.

Still it says offline.
(thank you for trying to help me )
In fastboot mode it looks like this:
just tested at work and it says "device" instead of "offline" which is good I think. The only difference is that at work I installed the SDK long after I got it at home and it has a slightly different folder structure and it also comes with eclipse.
Resolved. Downloaded the new SDK with ADT from the android site and it works. Please forgive me for posting so many times. Can someone please delete this thread?

[Q] Problems updating to Lollipop

Hi,
To make to perfectly clear I am not a developer and my understanding of such issues should be classed as "novice" but I have done a lot of reading up and believe I now need to post a question regarding my problem.
Here goes...
I bought a 32gb off Amazon before Christmas which arrive with 4.4.4. I assumed after a few days of running it would update itself to Lollipop but to no avail, no matter how many times I "checked for updates". I now believe this is probably due to it being a Japanese import. I suspect this as this is on the barcode sticker and the Android with the hatch open logo in recovery has Japanese text underneath.
Anyways I posted a few questions on the Google community and they have basically told me to sit tight as the update is still rolling out. Seems to me that I could be waiting forever so I started to look at doing the manually install myself, remember I'm a amateur here...
I successfully downloaded the ADK file from Google and, even though this came with the USB drivers, I downloaded these seperatly too. I've since deleted the duplicate files.
The problem I am getting is I cannot get the USB drivers to install for when the phone is in USB debugging mode. When I put the phone into both PTP and MTP mode I can direct the driver location towards the folder and everything works OK, when its debugging mode it says they cannot be installed. I think its important to note that I am using Windows XP.
I've tried removing, restarting and reinstalling but to no avail.
Suspect its an XP thing, how do I get around this?
Thanks in advance!

Install the adb/fastboot drivers. Google is your friend
Firstly thank you for your reply.
I have tried your install but it hasn't worked. I can tell I have been following a smilar update route looking at the pictures you uploaded also, although these screen snaps were obviously from a new OS (windows 7 perhaps).
Whats interesting to note however, is that in my device manager the phone is clearly shown twice, at the top as "Android Device", with "Google Nexus ADB Interface" below it and then again further down as "Other Devices" with MTP below with the familiar yellow exclamation mark.
Significant?
You actually don't need debugging mode if you're intending to manually flash the ROM. Debugging mode is only an android setting and you flash the ROM using fastboot which is outside of android.
Also you don't need the SDK.
I would say go to general > sticky roll-up then read my adb and fastboot thread to start
Thanks for your reply.
I do indeed only want to install stock 5.0.1 Lollipop so your suggestion looks perfect.
However, I'm having problems predictably...
I've followed the adb and bootloader install instructions and this seems to have worked, I have also installed the driver suggested and it looks like this has worked to as when I look at the driver in device manager (remember I am using XP), the driver manufacturer is Clockmod (or something). However when I follow "Method 1" and execute flash.all.bat file the command window repeats the following lines until it times out:
"'fastboot' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I have also tried opening another command window and typed in "adb devices" but the following error message appears:
'adb' is not recognised as an intern blah blah blah, you get the idea.
I guess I am still missing something and I'm sure its pretty obvious to you?
Thanks in advance.

If you used the adb and fastboot installer in my thread, did you use the "install system wide" option?
If not, do.
If you did and it did not work, read more of that section as the manual steps are also mentioned, which you'll need to follow.

He should already have it from my thread. Its just a question whether he used it correctly or whether it doesn't set up the environment variables on xp properly
Yes installed the 15 second install, Y,Y,N, then installed the Clockmod driver.
I'll go back and read it again, guess I must've missed something.
Have you rebooted? Try that. Is still no, you'll need to manually populate the environment variables.
Right, I have re-read the manual section and I can tell you I HAD edited the path before as I was following another instruction, one where it required SDK tools. So I have deleted the text I added last time (platform-tools was part of it) and copied and pasted the test in the manual area, including the colon.
Still cannot see the adb in the command window though?

Don't copy and paste it. The text is generic. You must put your text there....then reboot.
this is what I pasted:

Which is generic. Is the folder your adb and fastboot executables are in called c:\adb_fastboot? If you used the installer, it is not.
Where would the installer put them? I've searched my computer for "fastboot" and its found the exe that I put in a folder on my desktop. This looks a similar address to what I changed the path to previously...

OK so my path is broken so I won't be able to run adb commands?
Did you look at the root of c:? C:\adb perhaps? Its all covered in my thread isn't it? Are you reading it or skimming it? You don't even *need* to put it in the path. Its just easier. Please read to the end of the thread
Also, you don't need to run any adb commands
Yes I've scanned c: drive.
I've read and understood what I can, I'm not an expert so I can only compute what I understand.
I have reinstalled the adb setup a few times and I have noticed that it clearly says "0 files copied" after I select the exe files and system wide options.
I have also tried to run the adb and fastboot devices commands in the command window which gives me the aforementioned error messages.
For some reason, these programs are not being installed onto my machine?
