Sony Xperia Z ultra(C6833) flickering screen - General Questions and Answers

Hi Guys,
Please kindly help where you can,
I'm using an Xperia Z ultra (C6833) , since I have updated it from kit kat 4.4.4 to lollipop 5.1.1 in December 2015 the screen has been flickering so badly. I tried switching off the adaptive brightness option as read through other forums and xdaforum but nothing helps. I've sent multiple emails to Sony thinking they would assist but all I got was to be referred to an authorised Sony repair centre. The phone works fine fewer times but most times it gives me headaches with flickering.
I tried downgrading twice using flashtool and ftf stock rom file but it was soft bricked, it bootloops forever. I had to repair using Sony companion suite 2.1 to get it working again but the problem persists.
I have tried all possible ways to fix the problem but I
The question I have...
1. I want to downgrade to kit kat 4.4.4 from lollipop 5.1.1 without rooting or unlocking bootloader, is that possible?
Please kindly HELP,

flickering

Problems with wifi and bluetooth after flashing oficial firmware

Hello, I just bought a Sony Xperia L c2105 and after a couple of days i got the 4.2 update message. I updated the firmware via pc companion and the phone kept on rebooting. Ive read online about this issue and learned that many have had this on their phones and the solution for me was to flash an older firmware. I did that and now the wifi and bluetooth are not working. I flashed different 4.1.2 firmwares (15.0.A.2.17 or 15.0.A.1.36) but the wifi and bluetooth still doesn't work.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you aren't rooted/unlocked your bootloader then take it to your nearest Sony service center an get it repaired/updated

Do you remember the exact build that your phone had when you first bought it? Is the phone locked to a specific carrier?
Try installing a kernel and its modules for wifi
Sent from my C2104 using xda app-developers app

I have the same problem, on version 4.2.2 everytime i turned my wifi on it keept rebooting. So i reverted back to 4.1.2 .
It seems that the problem is in firmware. Maybe the new update will solve this problem

Well it's not firmware, it's you. Because I'm on 4.2.2 and nothing happens to me like to you.
Have you all make factory data after update ?

Some phones do have issues with new firmware, that is a fact that can be verified. Just search the net. And to bash on someone just because YOU don't have an issue makes you, well an less educated individual !
Ever heard of "statistics" ? Look it up and drop the attitude.

Hold out for 5.1 or downgrade to kitkat

Hey guys my moto g XT1032 has been incredibly slow since the update to 5.0.1, I think this is due to the memory leak issue?
Restarting solves the issue for all of 20 mins - I've also tried wiping the cache.
Has anyone had any experience with this ?
I'm stuck between waiting for 5.1 and fixing it or downgrading to kitkat - it's incredibly frustrating at this stage waiting for my apps to load.

IMO kitkat is far more responsive, quick, and stable than lollipop. Lollipop 5.1 is better than 5/5.01/5.02 but I still prefer kitkat over Lollipop. That's just my opinion.

Okay. In your original post you stated that you have the 2nd gen moto g. The xt1032 is the 1st gen moto g.
Also, if your bootloader is not unlocked and/or you are not rooted then you are stuck on Lollipop. If it is unlocked then you can adb fastboot the correct 4.4.4 firmware for your phone to go back to KitKat. I purchased my xt1028 with JellyBean on it, ota'd to 4.4.2 KitKat, then later took the 4.4.4 ota. Unlocked bootloader, rooted it and flashed numerous KitKat roms. Then upgraded my bootloader from 41.13 to 41.19 and flashed more than a few Lollipop roms. At the end of the day, I am just not impressed with Lollipop at all. Too bright, too many colors, and the design is too kiddie-like, as though they designed it for kindergarten children. Grow up android, and make an os for adults.
I reverted back to KitKat and I like it far better. Although I am about done with android. Going to iphone.
thanks for the reply - you're right -I'm a 1st gen ( XT1032).
So am I completely stuck on lolipop since the upgrade? ( I'm not rooted)

Yes, unfortunately if you are not rooted you are stuck on lollipop. However, you have a GSM phone and I think it is unlockable through Motorola's bootloader unlock program. Here is a link that may help: http://motogroms.com/moto-g-bootloa...o-g-xt939g-xt1008-xt1031-xt1032-xt1033-xt1034
And if you have success unlocking your bootloader, this link will help you restore KitKat on your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Keep in mind though that when you took the Lollipop ota it updated your bootloader so even if you restore your phone to KitKat you will still have the updated bootloader(bootloader cannot be downgraded) so you will have some screen flicker every time you reboot your phone but that is resolved by just turning the screen off/on.
If you need any further assistance please feel free to let me know and I'll do what I can to help.
Upgraded mine 2 days ago I totally hate lollipop
the lock screen sucks with the speed dial on it .....I have acidently made calls twice......I have had to put a pass code in to stop this happening
untill I can find a way of removing this pile of **** from my phone.

thanks for the reply classic757 - you're a gent
It looks like I'm stuck so for a while. Any sign of an improved 5.1 to deal with the memory leak / slowdown?

Your welcome.
And I am not quite sure if there is a 5.1/5.1.1 Lollipop update for your phone. You can always visit Motorola Software Update Page to check.

Can SO-01J be downgraded to Marshmallow?

Hello, I just got this phone SO-01J in docomo version which is installed with Android 7, but I found it not running really smoothly. I wonder if downgrading to 6.0 will be better. And I checked that it's NOT ALLOWED in bootloader unlock. So can I do this ? If so , which firmware I should choose to download?
I found an article shows an valid downgrade with F8331, it uses Xperia Flashtool and Xperia Companion. does this method also apply for SO-01J? If not, what's the proper way of doing so?
Many thanks.
What do you mean by it's not smooth? You're getting lags in gaming? Or the whole os is lagging? If the whole os is lagging then i think you should do a software repair with Xperia Companion... By the way... This phone can be updated to oreo

Thanks for replying! The whole os is quite lagging, even when I'm only running normal apps such as dialing, messages, camera and browser. Sometimes such experience just really annoys me.
And it has many Japanese Apps which are I hardly use and I want to get rid of them. So I'd like to get a downgrade to see if 6.0 would be better.
It wouldn't give a big changes tho....Android 7 shouldn't be lagging on your phone... About the mm firmware... Download flashtool and open xperifirm(something like that) and choose any mm firmware for SO-01J.. And flash it using the flashtoo.. lhttps://www.teamandroid.com/2017/04/11/downgrade-xperia-xz-android-601-marshmallow-firmware/ <---- tutorial about how to flash firmware using FlashTool...

Thanks, but it seems that in XperiFirm for SO-01J there is only the latest updated firmware available. (39.2.B.0.336) I don't know if I can use other versions' firmwares, such as F8331, F8332 for my SO-01J.
I'm not really sure because I'm not very good in firmwares...But try to give a software repair(software repair from Xperia Companion) a try... Because it shouldn't lag on your phone so something is wrong with your os... Software repair may fix your problem.. By the way.. Is there any option for you to update to oreo on your XZ?
