PB1 Odin tar NO BOOTLOADER - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

This is the pb1 Odin tar package without the pb1 bootloader and recovery.
Some users may not want to update their bootloader or may want to Odin while keeping the dev aboot and custom recovery intact.
This Odin package only includes the following:
Boot.img
System.img.ext4
Cache.img.ext4
NON-HLOS.bin
Modem.bin
Flash via Odin in the AP slot

Hi I'm sorry if this is a noob question but I've been out of the game for a while.
I never took the OTA update to Lollipop and am still running on 4.4.2 NCG build with Safestrap 3.75.
If I Odin to this package and flash the kernal, this will bring me up to Android 5 and i'll still be able to keep root and go back to 4.4.2 if I need to since it's not updating the bootloader right?
Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question but just have to ask before I do anything.
Thanks in advance.

I would just safely install one of Jrkruse's ROM's that have the "No Bootloader" Flashable Zips or update to PB1 using Muniz_ri's Update to PB1 and keep root. Which you can find Muniz_ri's here in the General Section and Jrkruse's ROM's in the Android Development section. Just remember to be sure you flash the No Bootloader Zip after installing the ROM and that you install JrKruse's SafeStrap for Lollipop because it won't appear in your app folder after installing these ROM's.

Cool thanks for the prompt reply. I'll give that a shot.

for the record yes this will allow you to still be able to downgrade.
but there are also other ways to get upgraded to lollipop.
This is just what I use just in case something really goes wrong. so i keep my recovery and dev aboot untouched.
of course with a working recovery there are other ways to recover. so to each their own

So I am not rooted and just installed the OTA for 6.0.1. If I Odin with this tar on AP slot will it put me back on PB1 with the ability to root or should I use the full on tar over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/g900vvru2bog5-factoryodintarimage-t3179527
on AP in Odin to go back and then use the BPB1 root method?

Use the full PB1 tar so that you can rollback your bootloader. since it doesnt trip qfuse.

You don't need to be rooted. And I don't think knox will be tripped since you aren't flashing anything that's been modified, only flashing unsigned/modified images via Odin trips knox. But since you are flazing a signed modem you should be fine.

Hi,
Thanks for the guide. Very helpfull. I have a few Noob questions...
1. Do I have to do a full wipe/ cleam install after updating modem, or will the OS remain intact?
2. Where can I find the latest modem for N9005?
3. Is the latest modem always the best, or should I only update if I'm currently experiencing problems with the 'old' modem
Thanks...

1. No need. Just follow the guide, nothing more..
2. Check the modem thread that's in the general section, if you can't find it there then you may have to pull it from the stock FW. Also some roms devs have the modem in their OTA/OP so may wanna check there as well.
3. New isn't always better. Update if you have issues, if something isn't broken then there is no need to fix it.

Are you Flashing the Full Firmware to update the bootloader?
Are you Flashing the Correct Firmware for your Carrier and Device?
Your Device is in Download Mode?
USB Debugging is enabled?
You Have the Samsung Drivers installed on your pc?
If the answers to the above is Yes - Try a different USB cable and Port on your pc

Anyone, including yourself notice any benefit just flashing the modem until NE9 is updated onto roms?
Thank you for this.
Confused a little. So i shouldnt flash the full ne9 tar if I am on ncg retail/ricks rom? Seems like it would save some steps (I.e. flashing, rooting, reflashing kernal, etc.).
And I should I follow the guides to upgrade to ne9?

Thanks sir. I'm actually not on it yet. I'm just trying to understand the concepts here. It seems I keep seeing people say to flash the firmware even if your on ne9. Or maybe there was a problem getting root on ne9. Idk. I guess I'm just old fashioned and think taking the OTA is best lol. But I think I get it now and what you have supplied us with here is actually easier and works. Thanks I'll try it.
I'm running NCG/Xposed with update and security notifications frozen via TiBu. Has anyone noticed any benefit to using the new modems? Which line in Odin should be used to flash the modem?
FYI
Flashed the NE9 modem on my Dev edition. Baseband still says NCG after trying twice. Used Odin 3.07 first time in 'phone', and Odin 3.09 second time in 'AP'. Left Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
Third time I followed the battery pull instructions and it worked! Thanks for that disclaimer!!!!
So under About Phone it says my Baseband Version is NE9 but it says my Base Rom Version is NCG.. Which Odin Stock Full Tar file do I download and flash? I'm on Alliance of course but I have to return my phone to Verizon and want to make sure nothing looks sketchy.

You need to flash the apropriate KitKat Bootloader for your Phone through Odin. By apropriate I mean 4.4.4 Bootloader for SM-N915P. You can search Google or download your Firmware from sammobile.com or sth. Then in Odin > BL > select your downloaded Bootloader and after it's done you can flash any KitKat firmware or ROM from recovery.
Hope it helps

Hello again, I tried exactly what you told me to do but still says failed. I downloaded stock kitkat (4.4.4) Firmware, then in Odin > BL > and selected the 4.4.4 firmware. I've attached a picture.
But if you're just talking about just only SM-915P "bootloader" file for kitkat and not the actual full firmware, then it is not present on sammobile.com or on any place with google search. The only bootloader file i found was for the international version (SM-915F) http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/n915f-kitkat4-4-4bootloader-tar-unlock-t3063928http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...15f-kitkat4-4-4bootloader-tar-unlock-t3063928, even XDA website don't have the bootloader for SM-915P. :crying:
I've been trying for weeks, trust me. And i feel like i've reached a dead end and stuck with lollipop OS that i don't like.

The firmware file you've opened with winrar contains ANOTHER COMPRESSED FILE (the actual firware that's going to be flashed). You have to go deeper. Double-Click on that file ('blabla'.tar.md5). wait a while until you can see its contents in winrar and THERE YOU WILL FIND (among others):
* aboot.mbn
* NON-HLOS.bin
* rpm.mbn
* sbl1.mbn
* sdi.mbn
* tz.mbn
Extract all of the above files >
compress them in a .tar file using 7zip or another program >

p.s. : If you cannot flash the .zip firmware then extract and flash the .tar.md5 file inside. AFTER you've flashed the bootloader

yes you are...
inside the .tar file you created there is a folder that contains the actual files to be flashed. That's wrong. Don't compress a folder, just the files

Do you have any suggestions? Or can you link me to a kitkat bootloader i can download, like the one you use for yourself. I don't know if this is a Sprint note edge issue because all other variants of the note edge seems to downgrade back to kitkat.
Lollipop just have too many issues like the one you also posted about the phone heating up badly, that happens to my note edge too. Battery draining like no tomorrow, it's just ridiculous.
I just wanna go back to kitkat.
Thanks again.

need clarification

trying to use this root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-note5/general/how-to-root-instructions-t3187895 phone currently has N920PVPS2AOK3. the thread says this WORD OF WARNING>>> Once you take the update to OI6 or use the OI6 TAR (get OI6 HERE ) .. YOU CAN NOT GO BACK TO OGD.....
so does that mean the root method only works on N920PVPU1AOGD?
if so can i just download the stock for N920PVPU1AOGD and root?

You can use that method to root. Use ODIN to flash TWRP and then using TWRP to flash one of the custom kernels. The SkyHigh kernel is OK3 based so it will work fine with your stock rom. Also, you can flash TWRP with ODIN and then just flash a custom ROM as they come pre-rooted.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any more assistance!

Tried to downgrade device now can't get it to flash any rom

Hi, I have been trying to downgrade my s7 to 6.0.1 and I downloaded all the correct firmware files and flashed it in odin but it failed on system img.
I then tried to flash back to the latest rom and it failed on that too. So after seeking advice someone told me to check the erase nand option in odin so I did that with still no luck. I've even tried to flash the pit file for my device and nothings working...
If anyone can help or give me any pointers that would be Great, TIA.

To flash it back to your Stock Nougat Rom you have to download the correct firmware for your country, place the files in the right tabs with Odin then flash. It's very very easy and there are lots of tutorials on how to do it. If the process stops at "initialisation" then the EFS partition is corrupt and needs to be flashed first.
Also please note you cannot downgrade to an older boot loader, that means once you have upgraded to Nougat 7 the boot loader is binary 2 and you cannot downgrade it to binary 1 which is what MM uses.
The only way to flash back to a previous version of Android is to flash a custom rom with the old boot loader but it is a slightly complicated process for the beginner
Thanks I've used odin loads in the past. Just haven't had any need to for a year or so so I'm a bit behind.
I've just downloaded the right firmware again. Does it matter if the nand has been erased or that the pit file has been changed?

Yes, it does, its part of the EFS partition, Try flash with new firmware if no joy then you need an image of EFS partition to flash first.
