trying to use this root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-note5/general/how-to-root-instructions-t3187895 phone currently has N920PVPS2AOK3. the thread says this WORD OF WARNING>>> Once you take the update to OI6 or use the OI6 TAR (get OI6 HERE ) .. YOU CAN NOT GO BACK TO OGD.....
so does that mean the root method only works on N920PVPU1AOGD?
if so can i just download the stock for N920PVPU1AOGD and root?

You can use that method to root. Use ODIN to flash TWRP and then using TWRP to flash one of the custom kernels. The SkyHigh kernel is OK3 based so it will work fine with your stock rom. Also, you can flash TWRP with ODIN and then just flash a custom ROM as they come pre-rooted.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any more assistance!

Hi,
I have a P3113.
I want to be able to receive the OTA updates from Samsung, but their OTA update process invokes a reboot into their stock recovery to complete the update. So, if I replace the stock recovery, the official OTA updates wont be able to complete.
But the only way I have seen to "root" a stock ROM was to first replace the stock recovery with CWM recovery, which is need to install a Zip file that does the actual root.
But, once I replace the stock recovery, I will no longer be able to do official OTA updates because they require a stock recovery.
So, what can I do to have a stock ROM and Recovery on my tab, but also be rooted?
If you have the mobile odin pro (paid) and managed to flash stock firmware (the updated one) that you downloaded from www.samfirmware.com (register first) then you will be able to retain root after flashing if you checked the everroot option in mobile odin pro
Or receive the latest firmware via kies then you could root it afterwards ( root the updated firmware)
Or flash the updated firmware from samfirmware via odin pc 1.85 and then root again as usual
As i know no flashable zip to flash to give you the stock recovery
I suggest update via pc odin and forgetting about update via kies
If anytime you want to use kies for update, you could flash first stock firmware via pc odin then update or flash the updated firmware directly then root

Thanks for the info - very helpful.
So am I correct in my understanding here, I can flash stock with mobile Odin, keep my root have stock recovery and then be able to get ota updates without a problem (or use kies to get the update, either way is fine by me).
If I am correct I love you all more and more everyday I come here
Just trying to confirm my understanding

So this is kind of a bump since I am trying to understand if I am correct here. I am still new to all this and want to learn things.
If I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash stock firmware with EverRoot on my P3113, then I can still receive normal updates either via OTA or Kies (which is preferred?). This will keep stock recovery, for the updates, and preserve my root so I can enjoy the benefits.
Does this plan run the risk of bricking on updating? Due to the fact that it is rooted, I thought you can NOT do a regular update (or was that just because of CWM being the recovery?).
What happens when Jelly Bean goes to roll out, will this brick the device since it is a whole new OS? Will this break root and I will need to re-root?
Just trying to understand everything before I make a decision on how I proceed with my device from here. I have never used Mobile Odin, and this is my first rooted device, so I apologize for my questions, but how else will I learn?
Thanks for your time, and your help, and as I said I love you all more and more each time I come around here, since I usually learn something new

Sorry guys it's right there in development.
Hi
So, i'm going to root my S6 and flash a custom rom, got 1 question:
Reading the CF-AutoRoot page, it mentions something about battery drain because of wakelocks after rooting, and that i need to flash an update zip file to fix it.
Do i still need to do that after rooting ? Or has it been already fixed and thus i can just root and flash the rom i want ?
Thanks <3
No one?
CF-auto root doesn't work on firmware 5.1.1 you will have to flash unikernel found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...d-development/kernel-stockmod-kernel-t3100395 using Odin then flash https://dl.twrp.me/zeroflte/ custom recovery using flashify (found in the playstore) and you will be rooted with a custom recovery and ready to flash a custom rom
You can try this
http://androiding.how/how-to-root-galaxy-s6-on-android-5-1-1-all-variants/
Hi,
I have a Note edge N915W8 which i updated to 5.1.1 the moment it became available on Sammobile (big mistake). as everyone knows, i lost root in the process. And no root availble at this time.
Important history of the phone:
I acquired the device from a friend that had rooted it when it was in its original stock 4..4.4 config. He then tried to flash a custom rom which ended up in a bootloop which he was unable to recover from because there wasn't a stock rom available at the time. Long story short, I ended up with a bootlooped Note Edge and after a week i managed to acquire someones backup zip from XDA -- which i then used to free my device from the loop and function properly with root.
I got too eager and flashed the 5.1.1 without reading up on it and lost root.
So, i was hoping there would be a way or method that i could use that would allow me to use that same custom recovery backup of 4.4.4, only this time be able to flash it through odin on my stock 5.1.1
Any advice would help.
Thanks
From what I know once you take 5.1 update you cant backroll to 4.4.4.
BOOTLOADER was patch'd BY the GREATS to throw another wrech in our plans!
And also I do blv there is ROOT for 5.1 but it trips knox & you have to install twrp thru Odin then flash SUPERSU & BEASTMODE Kernel that allows root and then take root

No I cant get Twrp 2 flash thru Odin as md5 everything I download comes out as IMG & that does me no good
This is the pb1 Odin tar package without the pb1 bootloader and recovery.
Some users may not want to update their bootloader or may want to Odin while keeping the dev aboot and custom recovery intact.
This Odin package only includes the following:
Boot.img
System.img.ext4
Cache.img.ext4
NON-HLOS.bin
Modem.bin
Flash via Odin in the AP slot

Hi I'm sorry if this is a noob question but I've been out of the game for a while.
I never took the OTA update to Lollipop and am still running on 4.4.2 NCG build with Safestrap 3.75.
If I Odin to this package and flash the kernal, this will bring me up to Android 5 and i'll still be able to keep root and go back to 4.4.2 if I need to since it's not updating the bootloader right?
Sorry if I'm asking a stupid question but just have to ask before I do anything.
Thanks in advance.

I would just safely install one of Jrkruse's ROM's that have the "No Bootloader" Flashable Zips or update to PB1 using Muniz_ri's Update to PB1 and keep root. Which you can find Muniz_ri's here in the General Section and Jrkruse's ROM's in the Android Development section. Just remember to be sure you flash the No Bootloader Zip after installing the ROM and that you install JrKruse's SafeStrap for Lollipop because it won't appear in your app folder after installing these ROM's.

Cool thanks for the prompt reply. I'll give that a shot.
for the record yes this will allow you to still be able to downgrade.
but there are also other ways to get upgraded to lollipop.
This is just what I use just in case something really goes wrong. so i keep my recovery and dev aboot untouched.
of course with a working recovery there are other ways to recover. so to each their own
So I am not rooted and just installed the OTA for 6.0.1. If I Odin with this tar on AP slot will it put me back on PB1 with the ability to root or should I use the full on tar over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/g900vvru2bog5-factoryodintarimage-t3179527
on AP in Odin to go back and then use the BPB1 root method?

Use the full PB1 tar so that you can rollback your bootloader. since it doesnt trip qfuse.

Hi Guys.
I've reached a state of confusion reading about OTA-updates, TWRP and root. My question question is this:
I installed TWRP, flashed the verity opt encryption kernel and rooted my G930F. Everything works and all is good. But with the new Chainfire AUTO-ROOT (is it X.72?) OTA-updates has been disabled.
I'm confused about the reason for this. Does this mean that I risk bricking my phone if I at some point in timez deside to flash stock rom via ODIN? Or will this just replace TWRP with original recovery and overwrite root?
Sorry for my noob-mind. I'm new to Samsung devices.
Best regards.
If you flash stock rom via Odin TWRP will be deleted and stock recovery will be installed. You will also lose root privileges. Make sure you have a backup before flashing stock via Odin. Once restored stock rom via odin follow same steps you took the first time you rooted your phone.
