Edit- My method isn't right. You flash the first time and then manually reboot into download mode then flash the second time.

You don't need to be rooted. And I don't think knox will be tripped since you aren't flashing anything that's been modified, only flashing unsigned/modified images via Odin trips knox. But since you are flazing a signed modem you should be fine.

Hi,
Thanks for the guide. Very helpfull. I have a few Noob questions...
1. Do I have to do a full wipe/ cleam install after updating modem, or will the OS remain intact?
2. Where can I find the latest modem for N9005?
3. Is the latest modem always the best, or should I only update if I'm currently experiencing problems with the 'old' modem
Thanks...

1. No need. Just follow the guide, nothing more..
2. Check the modem thread that's in the general section, if you can't find it there then you may have to pull it from the stock FW. Also some roms devs have the modem in their OTA/OP so may wanna check there as well.
3. New isn't always better. Update if you have issues, if something isn't broken then there is no need to fix it.

Downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 on N9005

Like it's been mentioned everywhere it's NOT possible to downgrade from KK BL to JB BL on the N9005...

with the current modem/firmware/bootloader (I don't know what gives me the issue) I cannot use LTE while I have an SM-N9005 and friend of mine with unrooted Note 3 (bought in a shop in our country) has LTE 4g, while I have an Italian CSC.
If I use a modem from an other rom, will I have LTE as well and still have my Knox intact?

Thanks a lot guys
Your threat was a live saver man. For a sec I thought I lost my phone. Flashed modems b 4 but thanks to u I got reminded to use the new Odin(stupid me used the old one).

You cannot go back to old bootloader once you are on KitKat, try flashing a new firmware.....

My phone currently is running the KOT49H.N9005DXUGNH1 rom, but i have a need to flash the N900XXUDNC1 modem. Can I do that?

nice one thanks

Are you Flashing the Full Firmware to update the bootloader?
Are you Flashing the Correct Firmware for your Carrier and Device?
Your Device is in Download Mode?
USB Debugging is enabled?
You Have the Samsung Drivers installed on your pc?
If the answers to the above is Yes - Try a different USB cable and Port on your pc

Thanks for your answer . Do i have to flash a full firmware and the bootlader at the same time?, cause i just use the bootloader zip to flash.

You could get better help if you would have included your country and the firmware or build number that your current using.
With that said.... goto samfirmware and download the latest firmware for your device. Then use odin to flash the firmware, you should then have latest update and you can then root again.
There are other methodes but I think this is the least complicated.

I know your method and used it a lot via mobile odin, but I used to keep the
root from options, and iam not sure if the new firmware will wipe my note or not if I flash it via odin pc
I read that flashing the stock recovery will unroot it.
I read that flashing the stock recovery will unroot it.
Flashing stock rom removes root .
But latest updates are more likely on XDA or sammobile before Kies or OTA .

I see your updated info except for country that you live in. You may have the newest for your country.
Yes, flashing a new firmware with PC Odin will remove root,.
I have not done it in a while but from what I remember all data remains in tack, just don't do a factory reset.
I do believe that there is a way to install a factory firmware in mobile Odin and keep root but I have never done that method.

Guide to upgrade to 4.4.2 for SM-N9005

I have seen threads being spammed with people not being able to upgrade to 4.4.2 and asking for help so i thought it would be better to make a thread for that purpose.
There is no need to root the polish stock rom if you want to move on to a custom rom after you have updated the new 4.4.2 bootloader!
You Know the deal if anything goes wrong then the blame is on you not me...
In this guide the links are for the older 4.4.2 stock polish rom "N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5".
For the newest stock rom N9005XXUENB3 and newer when available click here and put N9005 in the search box and download what ever country closest to yours that is available.
ODIN 307
Download Polish stock 4.4.2 rom "Mega mirror" and flash via Odin 307 in PDA tab and remember to tick Phone Bootloader Update.
Download TWRP for 4.4.2 and flash via Odin 307 in PDA tab. I didnt like the other recovery so i use TWRP and it's much better in my opinion.
Now you should see if the phone boots up the 4.4.2 polish stock. If it does then go to step 4. If it doesnt then move to Odin 309.
Now flash you chosen custom rom via recovery. Enjoy :victory:
ODIN 309
Download Polish stock 4.4.2 rom "Mega mirror" and flash via Odin 309 in AP tab and remember to tick Phone Bootloader Update.
Download TWRP for 4.4.2 and flash via Odin 309 in AP tab.
Now you should see if the phone boots up the 4.4.2 polish stock. If it does then move to step 4. IF it doesn't then move to step 5.
Now flash you chosen custom rom via recovery. Enjoy :victory:
Download 4.4.2 bootloader and flash with Odin 309 in BL tab. This is only done if the stock 4.4.2 rom dosn't upgrade the bootloader. Let it boot so you can check if it worked. If it did boot into 4.4.2 stock then go back to step 4. Last resort if the above didnt work is to try the SamMobile way below.

Does it have to be Polish ? Can we use other ones ?
Also, do we have to tick Phone Bootloader Update ?
I didn't tick this earlier, so it kinda screwed the phone. Softbricked it and then "kinda" fixed it.
And BTW, Phone Bootloader Update in 307 is disabled, greyed out.
But I'm running into some problems. Now I need to re-flash it.

If you follow the guide it will work and if 307 didnt work for you then 309 will.
Yes just go with the polish version to be on the safe side. I have only tried the polish version so i cannot speak for the other versions. If the 309 dont work eather then download the separete bootloader i have provided and flsh it with 309 and tick the Phone Bootloader Update.
Well, this one requires to update the modem. Not really sure I want to do that.
But, should I update Bootloader via Odin ?

md5 hash please
Hi
Can you please post the md5 hash of the file N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5_XEO.zip
MEGA does not provide hashes. The file is long and, I think it is worthwhile to check it before flashing it.
Thanks for your excellent guide.
i dont have a md5 but i checked with md5 checker and the file i have on my harddisk has - 7730BABC7713DFBE5934278FD653B3F7

Is it not better to install one of the final 4.4.2 by now ? any recommendation of those ?

Doesn't matter if you are gonna flash a custom rom after you get the new bootloader on the phone.
So it all depends what you wanna archive.

[GUIDE] Downgrading I9500 from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2 without losing IMEI number.

Hello guys! I have seen many of you complaining about Lollipop update 5.0.1 for various reasons (battery, heat, etc) but I never faced such! I was happy with 5.0.1 update until I rooted and saw that Xposed Framework wasn't compatible with it! Also many of you guys have tried to downgrade it but lost their IMEI number or nulled it to be more specific and so did I. I tried to flash different modems but nothing worked.
NOTE: This is for I9500 only and I haven't tested this on other variants. So I am not responsible for any of the damage to your phones and your curses
Requirements : KK 4.4.2 firmware.(mine was: I9500XXUFNI2_I9500ODDFNI1_INU)
Lollipop 5.0.1 firmware.(mine was: I9500XXUHOAA_I9500ODDHOA2_INS)
Odin_v3.09.
7-zip.
Following these steps you'll successfully downgrade to 4.4.2
1) - Boot into RECOVERY (custom/stock) and wipe data reset.
2)- Now boot into DOWNLOAD mode (volume down + power + menu)
3)-Assuming that you have your usb drivers installed connect your phone to PC and open Odin_v3.09.
4)-Flash KitKat 4.4.2 firmware from AP.
5)-After Odin gives a PASS and your phone restarts and after completing the initialization you can see that your IMEI is nulled.
6)-Now use 7zip to open the 5.0.1 firmware .tar.md5 file and extract the MODEM.bin file from the same.
7-)Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD mode and connect your phone to PC, run Odin and flash this MODEM.bin from CP.
After successful flashing your phone will reboot and you will see that you have your IMEI number and your I9500 will be on your preferred network.
BUT the BASEBAND version will be of Lollipops firmware as we flashed its modem.
Tested and working on my I9500 with INS/INU firmware.
Thankyou and All the best!
Hit thanx if helped!

[GUIDE] Root and Unlock Canadian i337M without tripping Knox

Tested on my Canadian i337M S4 (4.4.2 MVLUFNI2 firmware). Knox was not tripped.
This may work on other S4.
Summary of the Steps:
- Downgrade to special Kernel from W0lfdroid
- Root with TowelRoot
- Flash back 4.4.2 Kernel
- Downgrade to 4.2.2 Modem
- Unlock with RegionLock Away v1.3
- Flash back 4.4.2 Modem
Detailed Steps:
-=FILES REQUIRERD=-
Download these ROMs from SamMobile:
4.2.2 rom for your phone
- Use 7zip to extract MODEM.BIN from it
4.4.2 rom for your phone
- Use 7zip to extract MODEM.BIN from it
- Also use 7zip to extract BOOT.IMG (this is the Kernel), and archive it as a tar file.
-=ROOT=-
Follow this method:
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2014/09/To...4-S5-and-Note3-Android-4.4.2-NF-or-Later.html
Important: for flashing back the Kernel, the 4.4.2 file from that site may not work properly (causes wifi to behave weird). You need to use the boot.img tar you made earlier.
-=UNLOCK=-
1. Put S4 into download mode by holding Volume Down and Home Button on startup, then press Volume Up
2. Attach Phone using USB cable
3. Start Odin
4. under the Files [Download] section 3rd button (Phone) point to the 4.2.2 modem.bin
5. click on start
6. --- After phone reboots, check it installed correctly by verifying the baseband version is the same as the one you just flashed
7. Once successful run RegionLockAway
8. Next you must install proper modem back using Odin
9. Start Odin
10. under the Files [Download] section 3rd button (Phone) point to the 4.4.2 modem.bin
11. click on start
12. --- After phone reboots, check it installed correctly by verifying the baseband is the same as the one you just flashed
Using Heimdall on Linux to flash stock ROM and getting everything back to original tripped KNOX for me.
Everything was done properly and ROM worked perfect. Oh well.
Tip: (lol)
When flashing stock firmware back to device stick to Windows stock ROM flashing methods. (Odin)
Wish I would of found this info a few weeks ago. niCCe!

I have a phone from a guy at work it is a Rogers phone KNOX is already tripped the phone is rooted and on 4.4.2 MVLUFNI2 firmware can I still use your unlock method?
And if so which 4.2.2 firmware did you use on Sammobile I don't see any Canadian firmware listed for 4.2.2.
Do you have a link to the RegionLockAway is it just the 1.3 version I'm finding for the Note 3?

Yeah you can use this method if KNOX is already tripped. (or you can just use CF-Autoroot as it saves some hassle)
To unlock, the firmware I used was VLUAMDJ . On Sammobile, you'll see it if you filter by Canada (Rogers).
For Regionlock Away 1.3, yes you can use the one posted in the Note 3 forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551

No CF-Autoroot only roots the phone. It trips the Knox, but it's easier. So if you already tripped Knox, that's the best method to root.

If the phone has a 4.3 or newer bootloader, the phone can't be rooted without tripping knox as far as I know.

I have downloaded 3 different roms from Sammobile and get sw. check failed device 3 binary 2 at everyone. The current rom is form Italy Wind the latest OI9. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, probably you trying to install oldest firmware 5.0.1, download the latest firmware and try again. You are with 5.1, right? This error on odin happens, because you cannot downgrade the firmware. Hope this helps.
I think you can not downgrade even if it is the same Android version.
If it detects you are on a newer bootloader it will give you that error.
What I belive you can do is to extract the bootloader (sboot) and modem from the .tar file and flash ONLY the system through Odin.
Don't know exactly how to do that because I haven't done it but I think that would do; you will have to search and read my friend.
You will have the stock firmware but with latest bootloader and modem.
Hope this helps.
Note: As far as I know this will work if its the same Andorid version; you can not have Android 5.0.2 with 5.1.1 bootloader.

Hi,
I have tried what you said, but no succes. The firmware was already recovered with smart switch so the bootloader is the latest.
