Tried to downgrade device now can't get it to flash any rom - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi, I have been trying to downgrade my s7 to 6.0.1 and I downloaded all the correct firmware files and flashed it in odin but it failed on system img.
I then tried to flash back to the latest rom and it failed on that too. So after seeking advice someone told me to check the erase nand option in odin so I did that with still no luck. I've even tried to flash the pit file for my device and nothings working...
If anyone can help or give me any pointers that would be Great, TIA.

To flash it back to your Stock Nougat Rom you have to download the correct firmware for your country, place the files in the right tabs with Odin then flash. It's very very easy and there are lots of tutorials on how to do it. If the process stops at "initialisation" then the EFS partition is corrupt and needs to be flashed first.
Also please note you cannot downgrade to an older boot loader, that means once you have upgraded to Nougat 7 the boot loader is binary 2 and you cannot downgrade it to binary 1 which is what MM uses.
The only way to flash back to a previous version of Android is to flash a custom rom with the old boot loader but it is a slightly complicated process for the beginner

Thanks I've used odin loads in the past. Just haven't had any need to for a year or so so I'm a bit behind.
I've just downloaded the right firmware again. Does it matter if the nand has been erased or that the pit file has been changed?

Yes, it does, its part of the EFS partition, Try flash with new firmware if no joy then you need an image of EFS partition to flash first.

Odin flash failed, device 3, binary 2. Help needed!

Hi,
I have a G920F, I was rooted and want to go to stock again. I have restored the device with Smart Switch, but now I am unable to flash any other rom. I have downloaded 3 different roms from Sammobile and get sw. check failed device 3 binary 2 at everyone. The current rom is form Italy Wind the latest OI9. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, probably you trying to install oldest firmware 5.0.1, download the latest firmware and try again. You are with 5.1, right? This error on odin happens, because you cannot downgrade the firmware. Hope this helps.
I think you can not downgrade even if it is the same Android version.
If it detects you are on a newer bootloader it will give you that error.
What I belive you can do is to extract the bootloader (sboot) and modem from the .tar file and flash ONLY the system through Odin.
Don't know exactly how to do that because I haven't done it but I think that would do; you will have to search and read my friend.
You will have the stock firmware but with latest bootloader and modem.
Hope this helps.
Note: As far as I know this will work if its the same Andorid version; you can not have Android 5.0.2 with 5.1.1 bootloader.

Hi,
I have tried what you said, but no succes. The firmware was already recovered with smart switch so the bootloader is the latest.

But did you try to flash without the bootloader and modem?

Nand Write Start Fail.

Can i use the option nand erase all in odin? If not someone please provide me with a pit file for my S6 SM-G920W8. I cannot flash boot loaders and anything else besides twrp.
You need to have same or newer bootloader version for your phone. Thats all.

Galaxy S6 Flat SM-G920W8 Flashing Error. Nand Write Start, FAIL! I dont know what top do,
My question is if i can flash G920F's Modem and Bootloader on my G920W8?
And why does it not say nand write start fail when i am flashing twrp?
why are you trying to flash a g920f to g920w8???
You should use the same firmware for your phone to prevent issues.
Rrgarding with your last 2 posts, it is contradicting, you mentioned you cannot flash anything besides twrp, but you followed it that you failed in flashing twrp.
If you encountered with flashing firmware, I suggest to use a G920W8 firmware that is latest. I assume you are using an old firmware. Tell us your current and your firmware you are flashing.
Where did you get the twrp version? Are you sure it is not corrupt? A valid ODIN file? .md5 or .tar?
You need to give us more details in your issues.
Nand write start fail
I have solved using Odin3 v3.10.7 with firmware VZW-G920VVRU4BOK7-20151211140939 and Windows 7 for Galaxy S6 SM-G920V

Use odin and flash stock rom with some odin options tick...
1). Re-partition
2).Nand Erase all
and then go to pit tab
download the pit file for your model here and load into odin. ( J700H odin file)
and flash the ROM.

I am getting same cm.bin error in this rom
Download mode of my phone shows sm-j710f so I downloaded a rom of SM-J710F and flashed using Odin and it worked
On the phone box the model says SM-J710FN but the actual model of the phone I guess is SM-J710F
Anyways thankfully I am on complete stock now but the first boot image is still of Samsung Galaxy S8. The image that shows when you first switch on the phone.
It is from the supernova rom that I had flashed.
I don't know who this didn't change back to stock :crying:
And now I don't even have root to change it back
Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks in advance
You need Flash boot image Manually

Stock rom package doesn't include the boot image, you can flash it manually through twrp
look for boot animation for your phone you'll find, then you can flash it via twrp.
or
use rom tool box/flashify to flash the boot image package.

Yes but I am not rooted now and with Samsung recovery.
I do not want to root since that will increase my warranty void counter.
Right now the counter is on 1
Any other work around?

If the counter is 1 you're already out of warranty.
There's no other way to change boot animation.
And you can even change boot animation with samsung recovery, If you're rooted.

Cannot flash proper Stock ROM on s8+

Hey Guys,
So in early January when the s8+ Oreo update got leaked I followed the guide to install it on my device. However, I noticed when I go to download mode it shows up as the SM-G955U and my device is SM-G955W. When I tried download the stock firmware and flashing it in firmware it fails in ODIN. So my question is how would I revert back to the stock firmware and ROM that came with my device, I've tried many different zip files for the stock ROM thinking it might have been corrupt but it does not work.
Edit: here's the tutorial I followed to flash Oreo on my device initially
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-android-oreo-galaxy-s8-snapdragon/
Thanks!
Try the patched version of Odin 3.13.1:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
I did the same thing and used this to get it back to SM-G955W. This version has support for .lz4 files, which is used in the Oreo ROMS.

Galaxy Note 10 Lite stuck in Download mode and I cannot flash anything.

Hi y'all
So basically I've followed the https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html tutorial to the T . However, my phone has booted into download mode instead of, well, rooted android with the error ODIN MODE(AVB FAIL) Error verifying vbmeta: Hash Mismatch (3).
https://imgur.com/Q0OgDA6
How can I at least bring it into a flashable state?

You should still be able to flash an unmodified full stock firmware or a stock combination firmware to possibly repair any damage then flash the full stock firmware. Try using the "repartition" setting in Odin when you flash the stock firmware, it may or may not also require flashing the firmware along with the PIT file for your specific model number. Your PIT file may be available for download or you may be able to extract it from the firmware files.
