Clear System Cache (Unrooted, Unmodded Stock ROM)? - HTC One A9

I just updated my A9 and I want to clear the system cache for a "clean flash." However, when I turn the device off and hold down the power button + volume down button, it brings me to "download mode." From there, I have to boot to the bootloader and then from there I can select the option to boot to recovery mode. For some reason, when I do this, it just boots to a screen with an icon of a phone and a red 'alert' triangle, sits there like that for a bit, then reboots like normal. Why is this? My phone is unlocked, on a completely stock HTC Sense ROM (well, with Action Launcher and Google Keyboard, but that shouldn't matter), no modifications or bootloader shenanigans whatsoever. What's the deal?

I had the same problem to get into the recovery menu , while you are in the red "alert" triangle screen try this..
1. Press and hold the power button
2. Just tap the volume up button only "ONCE"..
The recovery menu will show up..
Hope it helps...

This worked perfectly, thanks!!

SORRY FOR BAD LANGUAGE...but i really realy realy need help

hi all,
heres the deal. i rooted my defy with superoneclick, it worked great.
heres the problem and what i think is the cause but i need a solution!
PROBLEM: i switch my phone on, it starts normally
motoblur screen
then
T mobile screen
then
the normal swipe unlock
i ulnlock it fine but as soon as i do the wallpaper dissapears/goes black. i cannot access any apps. none of the buttons work (menu,home,return/back,search) but the info bar/ menur bar thing at the top that swipes down works fine and what ever is in it works fine i.e when i plug into usb im able to choose portal and tools and those other 3. but when i just leave my phone on lock then press power button/activate unlock screen. it will show normal background with time and everything looks normal.
the CAUSE ( i think )
i was installing apps and deleting motoblur stuff. but it it was one of those two, i isntalled an app and i deleted a file at the same sort of time. the app installed was some startup app killer or a firewall of some type. or it could have been that i deleted an apk file that had a real short name i think, like blur.apk
PLEASE HELP ME. I need a solution FAST its my first smartphone ever and i paid alot for it. if you need my phone info it was
moto defy android 2.1 uk version but then rooted with super one click
THANK YOU IN ADVANCED FOR ANY HELP

i sent you a pm too. thanks for being so quick to reply. but i dont know how to do that stuff im a noob this is my first androidsmartphone ever but im a very quick learner
all good. For my phone. ( droid incred.) when the phone is off i hold power and the volume up key. then i select recovery using the volume keys. I know the buttons to push are different on some phones so you might neeed to use google to find the right 2 keys to hold down while booting
i currently have it in boot loader mode, it says battery ok, ok to program, transfer mode, usb. and thats all it says. no recovery options at all
Ok, found this in another forum. this is how to get into your boot menu i guess:
The boot menu happends when you press the volume down key and the power button.
When it takes you to the triangle part press the volume up key and the power button this action brings up another menu on which you can reboot and other settings.
the first triangle with exclamation mark inside it with the lil andorid man comes up, but the second menu doesnt, im holding vol down and power to get up this image, the to get second one you say to do vol up and power...i tried it, held it for a while but still no joy
ok, give this a try
"If you swipe the bottom right corner when you see the triangle you will get a menu. From there you can reboot or reset"
Still looking for more
nope sorry still dont work. i really appreciate you spending your time doing this it realy does mean ALOT. thank you i hope the solution isnt far away!
Ok, this is from the t-moble forms:
One suggestion...
Pull the battery.
Hold down the volume down key and press the power button.
Continue to hold the volume down key until you seem something happening on the screen.
This should boot you into recovery mode, you'll see a little green Android stood next to a yellow warning sign.
Press the bottom-right corner of the screen, a menu should appear.
Use the volume keys to scroll up and down.
Scroll to 'Wipe DATA/factory reset' and press 'ok' (bottom-left of screen) - you may need to re-confirm in a sub-menu.
After the wipe completes, scroll to the 'reboot' option and press 'ok'.
If you do that, you completely wipe the handset, same as if you performed a full factory reset on the handset.
Obviously, this will get rid of anything you have on the handset but if your only other option is an exchange, you've nothing to lose really.

it says it worked that it did the reset properly but still same original problem.
it says first line....
E:cant open /cache/recovery/command
that is in the recovery mode / reset
do you have a rom that you can try to flash? any rom really just to rule out a rom issue. you can try to find a rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=855&order=desc&page=1
im going to give it a try ill get back to you to let you know how its going within the next 20 mins, thanks for all your help
here is an option for a factory reset.
1. Turn the power off on the Defy (if it's frozen, pull the battery out & reinsert it)
2.Hold the volume down button
3. Press and hold the button until the device turns on
4. You'll get a menu that allows FASTBOOK, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, and SIMLOCK
5. Select CLEAR STORAGE, by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power
7. Now just confirm your decision Volume Up for YES, Volume Down for NO
it says on rsd lite . fail flashing process. unable to retrieve initialization values from INI (0x07029);phone connected
isnt working for some reason
that menu...mine says
from top to bottom
Android system recovery <2a>
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
(then at the bottomit says...)
E:cant open /cache/recovery/command.
but yet it will still go through the process like it is working but it doesnt fix it
Did you try the top option. Android system recovery <2a>
i wish i had that same phone to replicate this problem
im sorry i didnt write it clear enough the top android recovery thing isnt an option, its like the header/title for the program or page its written in red. the options to choose are in blue

[Q] HELP!! Samsung Nexus S Crashed, Cant do anything

Hi
I have a Samsung Nexus S for past 5 months. I recently upgraded to the ICS. Last week, I was listening songs on my phone and all of a sudden out of nowhere the phone re-started.
After couple of minutes, saw a message on screen saying “encryption unsuccessful, you have lost all your data. This phone will now need to rebooted”.
Underneath this message, there was only 1 option of REBOOT NOW. I had to press the button since I had no other option.
After this the phone restarted but never went past the start up animation screen. After couple of days, I gave it another shot and after going past the welcome screen, it gave me the option to register the phone again. But as soon as that screen comes up, I get all these small messages saying, email has stopped, music has stopped, android process has stopped, calendar has stopped................ at this point the phone virtually hangs itself and I can’t do anything.
Can someone please advise what is wrong with my phone and how can I fix it?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Try this, power the phone off, now press and hold the volume up & power botton at the same time, a menu should appear, now use the volume up/down buttons till "RECOVERY" is highlighted green, now press the power button, the phone will now reboot and in to recovery and show an android on the screen, at this point you need to press and hold the power button then press volume up briefly, a menu should appear, use the volume up/down buttons to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" and press the power button, now use the volume up/down buttons to highlight "Yes -- delete all user data" once this is done select "reboot system now", this process will wipe the phone and put it back to factory settings, it won't delete usb storage though so you may need erase usb storage once you're up and running again.

I think that you have to push clockworkmod recovery image like when you root your device.

yeah, try using clockwork recovery.
that's much more usfeul than the stock one
i tried doing clockwork recovery, I cant unlock the bootloader, i did all the steps ie installed android drivers, went to command prompt, typed the command, I can see the option of unlocking bootloader on android but when I select yes, it still says locked. I guess I will have to give up on this phone.

[Q] Restoring phone to factory settings using ODIN

I flashed a rom using the guidance of the Samsung Galaxy S3 toolkit. Everything went well--until the rom--which is the Ilusion v2.0 [4.2.2], (found in the Sprint Galaxy S3 Android Development section)--got stuck in an endless animation right hefore the phone fully restarted to the home screen.
It's just stuck in this endless animation, like it's perpetually loading.
It's very frustrating. I want to restore the entire thing to its factory setting. Is there anyway to do this using Odin? Maybe when the phone is in Odin Mode?

First before you return to stock I would recommend fully powering the device off and then booting into recovery mode by holding the power button + home button + volume up button until you feel a vibration and see some small blue text in the upper left hand corner of your phone's screen, then continue holding the home button + volume up button until you enter recovery mode. Once in recovery mode select the option's to wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and perform a factory reset. After you have done those three things select the "reboot system now" option and the phone should then reboot and power on normally and enter into Android no longer getting stuck on the boot animation. If you do however want to return to complete stock you use Odin to flash the stock firmware for your phone which can be downloaded from here I would reccomend checking outthis video on how to re-flash the stock firmware for the Sprint Galaxy S3.

[Q] Nexus 5 No Command Stock Recovery

Hi!
I have recently purchased a Nexus 5. On the day of the purchase, I received an OTA update for camera issues (it currently says build KOT49H). However, although I belive this install went through, as it changed Android version from 4.4 to 4.4.2, it didn't work as expected during installation. It froze during the Android robot screen, while it was installing. Bottom-line, now that I enter recovery, the first thing I see is a dead Android with a red triangle on it and the message "no command" underneath. If I press any button, the menu appears and I can choose the options. However, sometimes if I press volume up, instead of going up the menu, it closes it and shows the dead android background image only. I press again, and see the menu again, but can't go up, only down.
The phone is stock rom, not rooted, not altered in any way! I have attached several pictures in this respect.
Any clue about this issue?
Thanks!
If you reboot your system from recovery, you are stuck on "no command" screen as well?
Try wiping cache partition and rebooting. if it doesn't help, then do a factory reset and see if it helps.

No, the phone actually works if I reboot it normally. Only when I enter recovery I see this dead android robot. When I initially saw this dead android after update, I did to a wipe cache from recovery, as well as factory reset both from phone, as well as from recovery. Still the dead android in recovery remains, as wallpaper image...

That's the stock recovery and this is the way it should be. It's perfectly normal.

Thanks, I guess you're right! It's deceiving, however, that Google chose this image as default for recovery! I thought something went wrong...
However, I have reasons to believe that something is not right! When I enter recovery, I see the dead android, which is perfectly normal. In order to see the options (reboot, wipe cache, factory reset etc), I have to press volume up. If I press volume down, I go down the menu. If I press volume up, I should go up the menu. However, this leads to disappearing of the menu and back to the dead android background. If I press vol up, I see the menu again, with the cursor on the last position... I can't go up the menu. Is this normal behavior?
For instance, I had to select "wipe cache" and only after this process ended, by pressing vol up I was able to move through the options and choose reboot. Vol up in this case wasn't making the menu to disappear.
Thanks!
