importing MIUI SMS app inbox to Google Messenger app - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Hello, I have installed Google Messenger to replace the default MIUI SMS app, I have set it as default and gave it all the permissions on security and app settings, however Messenger app doesn't show any of my previous SMS & MMS that I received on MIUI's app... On all the other Android's I used, installing a new app would automatically show all the previous SMS I had on the phone, not sure why this one isn't...
Any help on how can I "import" the previous messages to the messenger app?

UPDATE: I was able to backup and restore the SMS and MMS using a SMS/MMS Backup app and it was able to get all the messages, but still after the restore the messenger app won't show them

There is english bug forum on MIUI website, there are also 3 reported bugs on different devices about missing SMS in Google Messenger. But because of low votes there are no progress. I can't give you a link (since I am new user) but you can easily found them by searching for "Google Messenger" in their forum. And up vote to speed up the fixing process.

stock messaging app required for other apps?

Hey guys. So I was in terminal deleting the stock apps that I don't need to have and one of those apps which I deleted was the stock messaging app, I did this because I was using hancent. Well now I am not receiving text messages.
- It all started after I deleted the stock app, I am not sure if it started immediately after or a while after.
- I was using handcent and I noticed that I was getting the pop up received thing and the quick reply option but in the actual handcent app under each conversation the incoming message was not there.
- I then switched to chomp sms to see if that would fix it. Now I am not getting the quick reply popup message received (in chomp)
Are there any suggestions to fix this or knowledge about this topic? Do you need to have the stock messaging app inorder to have other messaging apps work correctly. Oh ya, outgoing messages are still being sent correctly.
Sorry guys wrong section I wanted to post in q n a
Yes it is needed for other apps, that is why they have you turn off Messaging's notifications- so they can give them to you instead. They just read what messaging gets, they don't actually get the messages

[Q] Message app

Hello all, this may be a basic android question but i am new to andriod (HTC Thunderbolt, unrooted). The messaging app has three tabs: All Messages, SMS/MMS, and Voicemail. I'm assuming the All Messages tab should show not just SMS/MMS but also emails at the very least but all I get there is SMS/MMS. I have had the Mail app set up and working, and also the Gmail app. Also I have FB and Twitter for HTC Sense both set up (not sure if those post should show up there or not. Is there a setting I'm missing or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Messages app? Trying to use the full functionality of the Thunderbolt. Thanks for your advice.
The all messages folder is supposed to show sms/mms as well as push messages and visual voicemail messages however I have yet to figure out how to get push messages or what services uses these
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

Contact Photo Don't Display In Stock SMS App

I remember there was a quick fix for this issue, does anyone remember it? My contact pictures show in third party SMS apps like handcent or go sms pro, but in the stock messaging app, it just is blank. I don't use facebook syncing, it all pulls from my google contacts. help?

[Q] Default SMS app? How to?

Greetings,
I have this app called "Messaging 7" (from app store) which if you are aware, is really an awesome windows messaging app. I like its simplicity and have used it before kitkat update.
The problem is, im currently running kitkat in my HTC device and it's annoying that I cannot set it as default sms app. Therefore, everytime I receive a new text message, it will not mark as read until I open it on the device's default sms app. Kinda annoying, I can disable the notification from other sms app, but again, I need to figure out how to set the Messaging 7 app as default.
It is observed that the developer of the said sms app no longer works in it. So I'm thinking that there maybe a work around or solution with this since the app was created before kitkat update. Some other updated SMS apps i have tried to install appears on the selection for default app (from settings) and so I guess there's just need somthing to modify in it?
Any help will be very much appreciated. I really want this messaging app. :good::highfive:

Can't change default SMS app

Pixel 2 Running Android 8.1 with March security update, Build# OPM1.171019.021
Using Magisk v 14.2 - works perfectly
Default SMS app is Android (Google) messages, I also have following SMS related apps installed:
Textra, Titanium Backup, SMS Backup & Restore; all have the correct permission in settings (SMS, storage).
In settings the only app that is displayed as an option for SMS is Google Messages, I can't switch to SMS Backup & Restore to restore messages or to Textra, which I've used previously.
I'd like to restore some SMS that I have backed up and switch back to Textra, but that's impossible if I can't choose a different SMS app as the default.

What happens when you open textra and just click use as default sms?
When you open textra and select "make default app" it opens the settings window for default SMS app, but textra is NOT a choice, only Google Messages is, so in effect, nothing happens, Google Messages remains the default SMS app

No issues on P, can't speak to 8.1
Default App Manager works in 8.1. (I only have Gallery and Hangouts, but I can choose either one.) It's under Messages.
Problem solved, I uninstalled all sms apps, then reinstalled them, now they show up as alternative sms apps.
