not sure if there's a thread for this already, but who's seen the UI update in iOS 7? honestly, I was expecting much more from apple, and I kinda hope it looks better in person. here's where I seen it: http://live.theverge.com/apple-wwdc-2013-live-blog/

It's a nice overhaul, overall. Seems like they shamelessly stole lots of elements from other OS's, meanwhile (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just that they don't need to sue anybody anymore when others do the same). Multitasking: remember the cards interface from webOS? How about the weather app: looks like the weather icons from AOSP. I can't remember the other elements I saw that came from other OS's, but anyway I'm going to put the beta on my 4S tonight and try it out...as soon as the dev servers come back online again.
I think it's pretty much their way of bowing down to other OSes UI-wise, I don't remember having a overhaul this big since 2>3, and even that was waaaaaaaaaaay smaller.
Prolly going to set it up on my dev iDevice as soon as the dev servers resuscitate ...
The most accurate way I could describe it is:
- The skeleton of iOS
- A Windows Phone skin on top (the new flat icons)
- "Borrowed" features from Android
Apple does not know what they're doing anymore. I admire them as an iconic company from the DESIGN perspective (usually), but this is just really, really bad. iPhones normally demand a sense of professionalism and conservative, yet tasteful design. This...was just not well thought out. What did they add to really differentiate the iPhone from any other phone that has surpassed it in recent news? They reskinned it and added a few existing features from competing products. The icons are low-grade. I'm not saying that to be mean. I think that the iPhone is an aesthetically beautiful device. This new update added some nice graphical elements, but overall, the new interface is way too eclectic, and to be honest, looks like it took very little time to redesign.
Loooots of things on ios7 that android had 6+months ago.

Looks like they want a more simple look.

I just watched the entire keynote live a couple of hours ago. I have an iphone 4
I really like the control center, but it is not an original idea obviusly, since android has a similar thing in the status bar
The icons are a combination of android and windows mobile OS, but still the icons here on iOS 7 are ugly (especially Safari, Photos, and Game Center)
Android has followed the path of "Simple UI" a long time ago (change from gingerbread to ICS)
I think that because this is like their first makeover since the first ios, it might not look so perfect like before, but future iOS s will hopefuly make it better
Overall, i realy like the os, not because of the new look, but becaus of the new awesome features like airdrop, which i would prefer anyday over 'beam' on android
I just hope it doesn't arrive laggy for the iphone 4.
Thanks for reading,
yeah, to me the whole thing looks familiar. I just can't place my finger on it. maybe it is windows phone, or palm os or something. as much as I love android, and will probably never even own an iDevice I wish they had done much better. some of the icons I could've done better.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
I like it a lot actually. They did take a lot from android and others but overall it's a nice UI revamp. I'm probably getting an iPhone 5 as a secondary phone later when IOS 7 is released.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
To me its oddly familiar. But not from iOS. I am ashamed to own any iDevice and that they (Apple) claims "innovation" by stealing from other OSs and has the nerve to open lawsuits on such matters. No more iOS from me. I expected better from Apple.
Did you guys know that Apple patented NFC transfers a few days ago as well? What a$$holes.

Seriously, what could Apple do? Stick on the same path forever? Still even android fans expected a little more originality I think. Nearly everything that was announced was a response to or complete ripoff of android, windows phone, webos or Pandora.
Can't wait to see what is coming for android now that ios is starting to catch up.

Their new feature airdrop is really a glorified email, no nfc on any of their devices.

Actually, airdrop is the same thing as WiFi direct. If you have a Samsung device, you have WiFi direct (air drop).
I like what Apple has done, just needed MORE.

Yeah, I know that. Instead of using NFC to pair, they use Bluetooth to pair, and then like S-Beam, they use Wifi-Direct to transfer.
But what I'm talking about is literally Apple patenting NFC file transfers:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57587525-37/apple-eyes-nfc-to-sync-data-between-devices/
"A method of performing the simplified data transfer may include initiating communication using near-field communication (NFC) between two devices," the patent said. "Next, data associated with open applications on one of the two devices may be saved and then transferred to the other. Transferring the data may take place using a peer-to-peer connection other than via NFC."

I'm stuck deciding between the G3 and S5 because both are great phones. I love the S5 for the waterproof feature, but the G3 screen is beastly. OS-wise, I hate touch-wiz and I haven't used anything but AOSP on my galaxy s3, while the LG G3 stock "seems" more android and less bloated.
Having looked at past android development forums, Sammy has always had a more ROM development than LG. So here are my questions:
1. Will this change this time around, rather will LG see a bigger following?
2. Which phone do you expect to have more development?
3. How will the locked bootloader and new restrictions on the S5 factor into dev work?
4. Is there any definite reason why one phone is a much better upgrade than the other?
Thanks for taking the time to check this out and speculation is welcome.
Same for both since both have BL locked as far as ATT/Verizon goes.

As you might have noticed, Android 8.0 codename Oreo has been officially released today.
Let's discuss all news, speculations, development, and opinions on Android Oreo, especially for our Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices.
not much to discuss - S8 still on Android 7.0 when even Nokia is on 7.1
Id say - expect it on Galaxy S9 - next year in March
If im wrong - i ll buy you a beer
The S8 does literally everything that's highlighted as a new feature in Oreo

I just wish the MMS bug was fixed. 7.0 has the issue, 7.1 doesn't and it's super annoying.
I think that there is a lot to discuss, mostly about design , UI
As every new major os update samsung ui is completely different. Remember Kitkat then lollipop on galaxy s6 , then marshmallow on galaxy s7 and nougat on s6 7 8 is one of the biggest changes. So did you expect or want (or not) ui changes both in system interface and icons , or getting closer to aosp look? I personally love the s8 ui and icons but I think I could be nice to have in apps instead of pure white , a white that is just a little little bit tinted with app accent color, I mean in the dialer app for example, instead of white background, a white that is a little bit tinted with a very light and pastel green . I could bring a little bit of color and uniqueness to all of the apps

Android O has already been confirmed for the s8/s8+.
The reason Samsung hasn't updated to 7.1 is because it's not really needed since the s8/s8+ already does everything 7.1 has to offer.
It's speculated that Android O will be released for the s8/s8+ in January.

Wondering if Touchwiz will be updated on the S8 when it gets Oreo. Or would it just be what we have now (8.1) with Oreo underneath. I got the S8 purely for the hardware, never been a fan of touchwiz.
What Android O features is Samsung going to replace or just not implement? That's an interesting question.
Was rocking an iPhone 7 for a while, but when ios11 got announced and offered literally nothing of value I said "F this" and came back to Android.
I miss the Play Edition phones.

on android 8 on galaxy s8, Samsung experience is expected to jump from actual 8.1 to 8.5
Haha Android Oreo. Samsung won't release anything for maybe 9 months. Your better off wishing for a bootloader unlock then installing a custom rom which modi likely won't happen for maybe 6 months.
Android O has copied / borrowed a lot from the Samsung Experience UI. It's notable in terms of functionality and also in certain UI-design, such as the revamped settings menu. It looks nearly identical to the one on the S8.
Except for a few under-the-hood optimizations Android O has NOTHING to offer to an Galaxy S6 or newer Samsung device. We already have ALL features of the Android O feature list. There is no need to getting Android O in my opinion. It's nice that those new features are borrowed from Samsung and integrated into vanilla Android but that's all there is to it. I don't need Android Oreo but I do appreciate the security updates. Keep in mind that Nougat on the S8 has a lot more features and built-in features than Vanilla Nougat! Oreo simply narrows the gap between Vanilla and the current flagship leader, Samsung in terms of usable functionality that is genuine handy with day-to-day usage.

If I am not mistaken note 8 is at 7.1 and it's a same hardware like s8 cpu wise so I think that we will get 7.1 very fast

Yea I wouldn't go that far.
Everyone wants to have Android O on their S8. If all we get from this day forward is nothing but security updates. You'll be in the very small minority and everyone else would cause a scene and either abandon their 8 or beg Samsung for it.
Samsung has been doing a good job at keeping the S8 updated so far. Hopefully they do a good timely update to Oreo. Having treble should make updates easier for them to push out.

Coming from the s6, i saw the exact same train of thought i see here, so im going to say its always going to be a samsung "thing". When i had my s6 and it was on MM, people were in such an uproar about nougat and even when they got it they still were. I was happy with MM, people moreso say oh what about the security updates, i was an a 7 month old rom and never had any issues and only moved to nougat roms when the one i was one stopped updating.
Now i have the s8+, had it 3 weeks now and im not even thinking about the Oreo update right now, im happy with what i have, and when Oreo does come out for the phone i'll see how people find it 1st rather than jump in head first and then regret it.
I know Samsungs update policy so im not going to get in a huff about the update, people not so aware may not share my feelings.
Hey guys, does anyone use the Pixel Launcher on their U11+ ?
Can you maybe post some screenshots, I'm wondering how it looks, how much of a Pixel vibe
does it add. The Settings app, Quick Toggles and Recents apps switcher are the only OS parts
that cannot be changed, but they look pretty stock/Pixel.
I don't really like the Sense launcher, but since you can change the launcher,
using the Pixel could change the whole look of the device towards Google's look.
Thank you.
I use to love the pixel launcher. I then gave Nova launcher a chance. Nova launcher has a companion app to swipe left for Google now plus you can customize it better and more than the pixel launcher. Long story short you can make it look like a pixel launcher. And it's on sale for Christmas. 99 cents the prime version that is.

Check out Flick Launcher. It is like a cross between Pixel Launcher and Nova.
I bought the Pro version for $1.99. It is still under development but well impressive to see a customizable Pixel style launcher.
Sense Home is okay. After hours of tweaks I got it where I could live with it.
The choices with Android are why I love it so much.
Lawn chair launcher is pretty sweet too and most importantly, free!

Hi,
My previously smartphone is a galaxy note 8 and I liked one UI interface , status bar, and nav bar, application drawer.
And I would like to know if it is possible to integrate one UI in my OnePlus 7 pro ?
Thank you in advance
Cordially,
I highly doubt it BUT you could probably theme it with substratum if you wanted
No. And prob wont happen, OneUI is a lagfest and wont be a thing developers Will even think about.
Tbh id you liked OneUi u shouldve picked a Samsung for your new device. Oneplus is all about speed, stable + features that doesnt make your phone lag.

It's possible.
You just have to make it.
OneUI has made a LOT of improvements over its previous TouchWiz versions, but OOS is pretty awesome as-is. If you want a OneUI devide, get a Galaxy S10
I've had both, but prefer OnePlus device with OOS ecosystem!
I absolutely agree, I had an S9+ before and after switching to 7 Pro, I couldn't be any happier.
The development support on Galaxies just sucks, manufacturers have made it in a way that people can't but run only stock rom to their satisfaction.
And once you've tripped Knox, that's it, can never use SPay, Health, etc. ever. At least there should be an option to lock bootloader back again. Samsungs just suck big time.

Nothing is impossible, it can happen just like the op6

I had an s9+ for 3 weeks I really tried to like it, gave up and got the 6t then when the S10+ came out I bought it really tried to like it kept it for 2 months got really tied of the fingerprint frustrations and gave it up and got three 7 pro. I liked the S10+ but always missed the 6T. Battery and snappyness. Came to 7 pro and I was like f**k Samsung.
They use older processors, they give you crappy interface. Well I do miss 1 hand operations+. Root sucks on Sammy. Op all the way.
Guys please, he's not asking for a rant about OneUI, hes just asking if a port is possible.
To answer the question, yes it is most likely possible to port OneUI for our phone just like it was done with the MIUI, but it will be the full Samsung System then and no more OxygenOS. Apart from that I doubt that anyone is willing to take the enormous effort that is needed to take such a project
You can install GSI, but I doubt fingerprint, front camera, quick charge,... would work
I am a fan of OneUI but since using Oneplus 7 pro everything has changed .... I vote for Oneplus UI.
do not need One UI ROM, I have ordered the note 10+
