The folders in EMUI is really my only problem with EMUI what is yours ? - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since EMUI got no App drawer you rely a lot on folders, my really only problem with EMUI right now is how the folders look, I really do not like that they pop up in fullscreen like that, I know they do in a lot of launchers out there I have never understand the purpose of this, to me it is clear, the android vanilla/nova/apex folder look is superior and a lot faster to use more flexible and looks better. I really wonder if Huawei will ever submit using tradtional vanilla android folder. I think this is really important.
I would normally just switch launcher but I have found that EMUI is best optmized and lags a lot less then 3rd party launchers with Marshmallow, with lollipop it was the opposite.

What is your biggest problem with EMUI ?

Yes, the launcher I hate.
On Lollipop mine runs nice on Smart Launcher Pro. If I updated to MM and had poor performance with it, I'd revert to LP.

Well, for me it's a little bit of the opposite... I've always used Nova Launcher, but a while ago I decided to give a try to EMUI launcher. I looked for a nice theme, and I love the result...

yes I like EMUI but the folders look not good in its "opened" state" they do not need to pop up in full screen like that

Most launchers fail in this area, actually most luancher seem to have this "pop up" folder style, not many fall true to the look of vanilla android folders (in its expanded state)
All I am saying is I hope Huawei read this and fix this small problem, besides this I have no complains about EMUI really, it is just these damn folders.
I really love the swipe down function to do search it is really good and useable.
I cannot really say I miss an apdrawer, for me when I used nova I did not use it to scroll down thru all apps I did just use the search directly since I founded apps faster that way.
To get as much to fit as possible on one screen you get faster access to your apps. But this popup animations of the folder slow down the access little bit..

I really see no problem with EMUI folders. I mean, if you open a folder it's because you want to see it's content, am i right? My attention is on the folder, not anywhere in the screen, why do you want to be able to see other parts of the screen while in a folder? Just touch anywhere else and you'll be right back in the home screen in like 0.00000000001 seconds.

It is mostly about ergonomic reasons for the thingers . With googles standard folders you need to move your finger very little to choose app within in folder it makes it faster, the animation alone will just delay access time with about 1 second, the full screen mode is much like windows 8 start menu which also did pop in full screen, it gets very "distracting" . So I hope they get rid of this or atleast makes us be able to show of folder will be shown.
With launchers who have no app drawer and depend on folder it makes it very important that the folders is good.
One thing I like about the folders though is when its closed state the folder is transperent and you get a good overview of all apps inside, that is good and that is not in standard android

My only problem with EMUI at the moment is that custom launcher run so poorly as OP already said. I always used Smart Launcher until I flashed Lollipop, then it would always restart when clearing all tasks in task manager. Now in Marshmallow it doesn't behave like this anymore, but the performance is just bad, even my first Android did better than that..

Yes I really wonder why, even google now launcher is slower which is strange, on lollipop google now laucnher was noticeable faster for all task that incuded browsing, scrolling, open apps and app animations then Huawei Laucnher, right now with Marshmallow EMUI is clearly a lot more faster, but it should not be this way...not sure what the bottleneck is.. Launchers like Nova, apex and Google now launcher are heavily optimized, even though a very small % have marshmallow I would note believe that they did not optimize it less good for marshmallow.
Anyway every 3rd party launcher I have tried have resulted in sluggish and non smooth animations. With that said I am very happy right now with EMUI and Mate 7 lollipop, it is just these damn folders that I do not like, but I have gotten used to them now but if I could choose I would easily choose google style folders

Now that i think about it, my one and only big complaint about EMUI is the lack of notification badges in most apps. Sure, system apps like the dialer or the messaging app do get their badges, and so do some app like whatsapp, but i use telegram mostly and it bothers me that i dont see the notification count in a badge, same as Instagram and others :|

Also, if you have a Desire ROM - it has Flash (lite of course)! Very nicely designed, sometimes laggy, browser if you ask me!
(only for Android 2.0 and above)
i like it!!!:
I never liked the original Dolphin Browser (think it's hideous and yea...not my cup o' tea) however I was blown away by the functionality and looks of this browser...
while it doesn't exactly fit my aesthetic it is still a beautiful app and another testament to the evolution of Android apps...
Hell, I even 'donated' for the ad free version simply because I always support apps I feel deserve it.
Now if only I can find a theming kit :-\
this browser win hands down.
It can't download zip files.
a bit laggy sometimes, feels as though its not making full use of the snapdragon.
but it is amazing none-the-less, glad to see apps as well made as this finally making their way on to the platform.
will be my new browser for a while
I'll give it a try for a while.
It sure looks nice.
like the new browser, made it my default for now
All right, not bad, but any way to get it to hide the tabs?
Also about:config comes up blank. Any way to get deeper under the hood of this thing than the settings menu?
Any other shortcomings you guys are running into?
I'm loving it!

If it is like the previous Dolphin Browser, all the "about:debug or aboutd:config" stuff is available without having to type it in each time you want to tweak something, it is just in the more list, or whatever they have it titled.
Just downloaded and double checked, it is like the previous versions, just hit menu, more, settings, then system settings in that list.
Beautiful app although the lack of pseudo-flash will be holding me back from switching to it as my default browser. They're on the right track though, I'm sure I'll switch to Dolphin once Froyo comes out and flash will be standard.
You know, i installed this maybe only 8 hours ago, with the intent of giving it a good testing before i tossed it aside (like Skyfire, and xScope) to revert back to the default browser.
But this thing has really grown on me. The text reformatting (column text formatting when zooming) is right on par with the default browser. xScope text reformatting was horrible.
In the minimal time I've had to really sit down and use it, I've really seen nothing LACKING from it, that is in the default browser. Gestures is really nice, and the UI is well, beautiful.
Its looking like i MAY have after all, a browser replacement.
Lets hope i don't find something else later that'll nix it for me, and send me back to default again. =) (nothing against default tho, it gets the job done, and rather well to be honest.)
12 hours of use and really enjoy it. The volume scroll is a nice added feature

Does anyone know how to hide/show the tabs from anywhere on the page?
The old dolphin browser would show the tabs when I double-tapped on the screen. Now it seems that I have to scroll to the left or right side of the screen and swipe quickly to get the tab popup.
Or does anyone know how to get to the top of the page quickly?

Are you sure about that? Do you have a file explorer app like Astro installed?
I don't really like the Default Zoom built into the framework of these new browsers (since Dolphin HD is just a modified version of the 2.1 Browser). It usually just doesn't work (like setting Close is actually zoomed out) or Close is too close/Medium is too far out.
EDIT: Played around with it and setting the text size to Huge is a workaround for some sites but it's not consistent.
I'm loving it. Been using it now for about 3 days with no problems.

[APP] Rocket Launcher! What do you think?

We made a video tutorial on how to use it in case some of you don't get some parts of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGsa-EAtkDM
You can also download it from the market here: <Paid version><Free versions>
Really amazing concept.
What is the difference between the two versions?
I think preference is spelled wrongly as well.
No way to redorder widgets?
Hey! Thanks for the kind words, let me answer your questions:
1. The difference right now is the paid version dosen't have an add in the app drawer, although that add is not producing that much revenue anyway. So the paid version is just basically to support us. So far it's paying the electricity bill but it's only doing that mind you.
2. Where is it spelt wrong?
3. Yeah you can, it should explain that in the video. If it dosen't: you just press the bar next to the widget, and then press the bar of a different widget and they will get swapped.
i like your choice for a name
are you limited to only having 6-7 icons on the screen?
Ads in a launcher are a no-go. Why not just disable an option or add something special to the paid version?
I will never use a launcher that features advertisements - the free version of the W7 launcher is the only other one I can think of, and I used it for all of 2 minutes before the ads drove me insane.
@GoneMADSoftware No you can have as many as you want in that strip in the middle
@Braneless You do have a point since right now we are making nothing off the adds, except people complaining about their existence. I'll think of something that the paid version will feature so the users will use it.
I looks cool

Like the look of the launcher a lot, if we could move widgets themselves it would be nicer, if you only have one widget you can't move it... also not all of my apps show in the list. More home screens and icons would be nice, no landscape mode, it cuts it off and the ability to scroll makes the launcher move around in portrait mode landscape just doesn't look right.
Great concept, keep up the work guys and I agree, great name for a launcher.

If you only have one widget you can move it arou... I don't follow. It's a widget list, like an app list, a lists start at the top therefore the first (and in this case only) widget would be at the top... where else would it be? I mean it's clearly a list of widgets so where else would you have it?
The fact that not all of you apps still baffles me. I just can't seem to find a way that works to get all the apps, properly, on all model phones. The way its done now seems to be the standard one and it works on most phones... what model phone do you have? I'll think of something... I do have 2, 1000-or more page android books lined up to read, if only my E-book reader would arrive this century, but i digress.
More home screens... i'd rather use the one home screen that exists already and expand it sideways with more branches. So you can add more icons and what-not. If i just add more screens it's like every other launcher out there.
I don't want it to have a landscape mode and i will probably remove the dodgy landscape that it has right now since it looks very wired. The launcher moves a bit in portrait mode because on a HVGA or QVGA screen the picture itself is bigger than the screen of the phone therefore a QVGA user won't be able to see all the icons without scrolling. I do admit that the slight movement of scrolling that it dose right not is a tad annoying and i will get around to fixing that; but there are only so many hours in the day and i've been having huge issues with sony xperia phones not displaying the icons of apps since yesterday so... need break!
Cheers for your feedback though!
Suggestion
Cool concept. Being able to select the icons on the home screen would be nice. Like the look of the stock ones from the launcher but prefer to use different SMS and Launcher apps. Having those apps Icon's mixed with the Stock phone etc. is less clean then it could be. Keep up the good work

Hex themes work!

One of my biggest worries was hex not working but it does! See my screenshots. I really hate Samsungs icons and status bar icons, so being able to do this is pretty huge for me.
I'll be trying nova and default gestures next to see if things are working smoothly there too.
Interested in what Nova looks like.

Nova works, but not well. Besides native gestures still being slightly buggy, the front display copies the main display layout and is chaotic since it crams everything in the tiny display. Unless you have tiny as hell hands, you can't really use it. The native gesture bug is tiny but still there - when you swipe to go home, there's a small delay before you can actually tap anything on the screen. It's not a long delay, but enough to annoy me.
I've found gestures to be good with Nova ...so far anyway in my short time using yesterday....front screen is definitely a little tight ...

Same! I could live with the slight delay after swiping up to go home, but I can't deal with the cover display mimicking the main display. Maybe Nova can do something about it. I'll actually message the dev and see if there's anything in the works, or if they can even do anything about it.

It would be even better if you went to google.com, typed in "hex themes", and click on the first link. I'm not sure if your geography skewers the search results, but to have as many posts/thanked posts as you do on these forums and not use Google to answer a question that seems relatively easily answered confuses me.
I'm new to using Hex and wanted, like you, to improve Samsung's awful UI (rounded corners look childish)
I found some Pixel/AOSP10 themes that I applied, however, they caused some issues within some applications. For example, in WhatsApp, the message bubbles for both my messages and the recipient's messages became the same black colour so it wasn't easy to distinguish between each other's messages. I think this might be because Hex tells you to apply the High Contrast theme (which I assume is a 'base' that Hex uses to them) and it's the High Contrast theme that's making WhatsApp the way it is.
Is it possible to fix this issue? Like somehow exclude WhatsApp from a list of applications to theme?

Absolutely!
When you click on Hex -> Personalise -> Apps -> Unselect apps you don't want Hex to theme.
I have unselected WhatsApp, Google Maps, Snapchat, Google, and a few others. Theming looks awful on a few of them so I don't bother. Love Samsung's messages, phone, and a few others though.

Thanks, found a guide online that said to do that and now I'm 98% happy! It would be nice to keep the titles and icons of notifications the same colour as the app they're coming from but I noticed the developer in the #Hex thread confimed it's not possible to keep that.
I also themed the Samsung Health app and then excluded it from the apps list when re-applying the theme but the icon remains the same. I'm guessing that the plug in is dictating the replacement icon and you can only have all icons from the plug in or none at all by deselecting it in the options .

I will be going into surgery next week and may not be available for a bit during recovery, so I will try to get everything done ASAP. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project and made it possible to finally take the time off needed to breathe normally again.
SamSprung was released one year ago today as the first app launcher for the cover screen. With nearly 2000 new downloads per version and over 800 builds released, we have reached over 1 million downloads. Cheers!
Just an update - surgery did not kill me and new builds should be filtering through as Google finishes reviewing them.
I love you so much this is my first flip and I am blown away by this neat app. appreciate ya.

There is a thread for that. It's not really appropriate for the individual app threads (since I assume you want an unbiased opinion).
Are the launcher icons too small? I recently received a bug report saying they were entirely too small, but also feel like making them much larger will make the launcher seem clunky on a 1 inch screen. I run a DPI that makes anyone over 40 cringe, so I am a bit partial to smaller icons for person use. Are other people struggling with the app icons?

To be fair I think it varies on the icons, like personally me I'm a big boy so got big thumbs but I hardly ever misclick something; but that's also as you said, 1 inch screen there isn't much you can do about it. Possibly having an option for size adjustment would be cool but I see no problems with it.
Google Play reviews are a little backed up, but new builds were pushed to improve the overall stability (and reliability) of removing helper views. This should solve a few of the issues with ghost screens preventing input and other bugs.

The latest update was today. This thread is not a reflection of how active development is at any given time, though.
I don't really post announcements here because there isn't a whole lot to announce that anyone would come here to find.
Being open source, there is really no reason to explain what goes into each version. Downloads automatically show the changes since the previous version and building automatically happens when there are new changes. Google Play gets updated for every significant change.
Most bugs or requests get submitted through the app, so they aren't being posted here to reply. Any that aren't submitted to the GitHub directly come through email and are converted to GitHub issues.
This app doesn't have a paywall or features to unlock, so there is nothing to sell. It's kind of unnecessary to persuade anyone that a free app is worth trying because the price is already convincing.
Honestly, the lack of posts here is a positive sign that everything is running smoothly.

Notice: Due to an Android 13 bug, touch is not passed to the stock launcher when TooUI is minimized. Double tap the SamSprung icon to temporarily disable the launcher until the screen is turned off.

Android 13 enabled another of Google's brilliant ideas to disable the ability of any window to pass touch to windows below it.
There are a few exceptions. A completely invisible window (so basically malware) is granted the ability to pass touch. A window more transparent than the arbitrary maximum opacity of an overlay (0.8 or 20% transparent) can also pass touch, but results in the window under it being visible through the current one. The last, and my personal favorite, is accessibility. By requesting ANY accessibility feature, such as retrieving notification text, you gain unrestricted access to control the entire device.
Google's only method to control accessibility is to require that at least one use case fits one of the ones they allow and that you notify the user before requesting access to accessibility that you are going to ask them for access to accessibility. Put simply, you need a nag screen.
On top of that stroke of brilliance, they are now planning to add extra permissions and disclaimers for services running in the foreground.
This means that any service that is required to notify you it is running and maintain a notification reminding you it is running will now have to make absolutely sure you know it will be running through a series of nag screens and disclosures.
Google is trying to emulate the security promises made by Apple, but trying to pass all of the work to individual developers. The end result being a platform no less insecure than it was, but with frustrated users and developers doing a lot of meaningless work.
For me the newest github release from yesterday works better than the one on google play. Nice work, my friend.

Question Easier way to close all apps?

Hi guys,
I'm coming from 10 years on Samsung Galaxy devices and am still getting used to the Pixel experience.
One thing that I just can't understand is the fact that in order to close all running/recent apps, I have to scroll allll the way over to the left before I have the option to Clear all apps. In comparison, Samsung shows this option immediately and without any scrolling required. What compounds this frustration is the ongoing scroll issues others have reported on the Pixel 7 Pro. Sometimes it takes me literally 10+ seconds to scroll all the way to the left to access the Clear all button.
Why wouldn't Google place this option where the Screenshot and Select buttons are??

Is there any means of automating closing apps? Such as using an intent with Tasker that I could then assign to a gesture with Nova Launcher? Thanks.
Yea this is very dumb. I'm also hoping for a mod that can bring back the vertical recents menu. I hate the horizontal one, it sucks.
It's not necessary anymore. The phone has 12GB of RAM and intelligent background process management. If there is an app that's draining your battery in the background, go to the app's icon and long press then hit the info button. Tap battery and then tap restricted and it will no longer be able to drain your battery in the background (but it will often delay notifications).
I was hopping all around my phone multitasking yesterday for a few hours, came back to DuckDuckGo where I had a page loaded up, and it didn't even reload despite hours of Chrome and other app usage.
The close all apps button is a relic from a different time and should really be removed in flagships. It just uses even more CPU cycles to reload the app than if you just leave it there in memory.
Pixel doesn't have it so all flagships should do away with it? Maybe Pixel isn't a flagship phone.

All flagships should get rid of it because it's not necessary with how much memory they have. People who are used to using it are just wasting extra CPU cycles when they reload the apps. Let the phone manage processes itself.
10 seconds to scroll all the way to the left? Ummmm, that would equate to several hundred open apps LOL - SMH
Otherwise I too would like to see the clear all on the first screen.
The answer is - Don't.

AOSP Mods has an option to add a clear all button to the recents page bar. Requires Magisk and LSPosed.
Wait does not everyone have the clear all option if they go to the left in recent? I've had that for awhile and thought it was just part of the stock OS now

It's there but you have to scroll through all your open apps to get there.
Yah not a fan of this feature being left out !

Ummmm did you read my comment about the scrolling inconsistencies many Pixel 7 users are experiencing? Or watch the video that demonstrates what I'm talking about? It's less about how many apps are open and more about the fact that it can require very precise swipes to actually advance from app to app. Sure, the more apps you have open the longer it would take to reach the Clear All button, but I definitely don't have hundreds of apps...

This is a valid point and I certainly don't disagree. I should have clarified that I am not clearing the apps for performance or battery conservation reasons. It's more that I am admittedly obsessive about keeping my workspace "clean" and tidy I'm the same way about unread notifications and a messy notification panel. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just a minor annoyance coming from a Samsung background.

I can understand obsession. I get that way about unread notifications, especially when a red dot is involved lol. I didn't really think about it from the obsession point and I can understand that.
I use it for entirely different reasons like switching back and forth from app to app.
Inputting info from an email to a banking App etc.
All in an instance.
I find it laughable that it's only unnecessary when pixel doesn't have it.

Glad to hear. No worries.
I don't like the "Clear all" button is all the way to the left, and I'm one of those that experience scrolling issues.
I resort to simply doing a "super violent swipe to the right" and it always results in the "Clear all" button showing up in less than a second.
For my case, the question (of whether or not to clear all) is not about memory management. Let's say I want to close one particular app (Pokemon Go almost always the case for me). I hate scrolling/hunting down that particular app to close it.
So the much easier solution is simply to "Clear all".
I solved it through AOSP Mods.
now it's exactly as I wanted
For the life of me, I cannot get clear-all button to show up. toggled "Add clear-all button to bottom of recent page" multiple times, systemUI reboots and manual OS reboots. AOSP mods and nova Launcher.
