It's still pretty rough, but all the README and Wiki and whatever other nonsense is being repackaged into a single website to make it easier to navigate. It should be up and running in the next day or two.

I will be going into surgery next week and may not be available for a bit during recovery, so I will try to get everything done ASAP. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project and made it possible to finally take the time off needed to breathe normally again.
SamSprung was released one year ago today as the first app launcher for the cover screen. With nearly 2000 new downloads per version and over 800 builds released, we have reached over 1 million downloads. Cheers!
Just an update - surgery did not kill me and new builds should be filtering through as Google finishes reviewing them.
I love you so much this is my first flip and I am blown away by this neat app. appreciate ya.

There is a thread for that. It's not really appropriate for the individual app threads (since I assume you want an unbiased opinion).
Are the launcher icons too small? I recently received a bug report saying they were entirely too small, but also feel like making them much larger will make the launcher seem clunky on a 1 inch screen. I run a DPI that makes anyone over 40 cringe, so I am a bit partial to smaller icons for person use. Are other people struggling with the app icons?

To be fair I think it varies on the icons, like personally me I'm a big boy so got big thumbs but I hardly ever misclick something; but that's also as you said, 1 inch screen there isn't much you can do about it. Possibly having an option for size adjustment would be cool but I see no problems with it.
Google Play reviews are a little backed up, but new builds were pushed to improve the overall stability (and reliability) of removing helper views. This should solve a few of the issues with ghost screens preventing input and other bugs.
Is this no longer being developed?

The latest update was today. This thread is not a reflection of how active development is at any given time, though.
I don't really post announcements here because there isn't a whole lot to announce that anyone would come here to find.
Being open source, there is really no reason to explain what goes into each version. Downloads automatically show the changes since the previous version and building automatically happens when there are new changes. Google Play gets updated for every significant change.
Most bugs or requests get submitted through the app, so they aren't being posted here to reply. Any that aren't submitted to the GitHub directly come through email and are converted to GitHub issues.
This app doesn't have a paywall or features to unlock, so there is nothing to sell. It's kind of unnecessary to persuade anyone that a free app is worth trying because the price is already convincing.
Honestly, the lack of posts here is a positive sign that everything is running smoothly.
Yes, I am still here and still actively updating. TooUI now supports the Oppo Find N2 Flip.

Android 13 enabled another of Google's brilliant ideas to disable the ability of any window to pass touch to windows below it.
There are a few exceptions. A completely invisible window (so basically malware) is granted the ability to pass touch. A window more transparent than the arbitrary maximum opacity of an overlay (0.8 or 20% transparent) can also pass touch, but results in the window under it being visible through the current one. The last, and my personal favorite, is accessibility. By requesting ANY accessibility feature, such as retrieving notification text, you gain unrestricted access to control the entire device.
Google's only method to control accessibility is to require that at least one use case fits one of the ones they allow and that you notify the user before requesting access to accessibility that you are going to ask them for access to accessibility. Put simply, you need a nag screen.
On top of that stroke of brilliance, they are now planning to add extra permissions and disclaimers for services running in the foreground.
This means that any service that is required to notify you it is running and maintain a notification reminding you it is running will now have to make absolutely sure you know it will be running through a series of nag screens and disclosures.
Google is trying to emulate the security promises made by Apple, but trying to pass all of the work to individual developers. The end result being a platform no less insecure than it was, but with frustrated users and developers doing a lot of meaningless work.
For me the newest github release from yesterday works better than the one on google play. Nice work, my friend.

Thanks for the video!
How is the overall experience? Does it feel stable?
And are there changes to the camera software?
Thanks
LG took 4 months just to port all existing UI and Features over to Android Pie? Even the navigation gestures seems copy paste of Android Pie. Hope they'll at least release final build globally before January.
Overall, feels stable. No crashes or anything.
Camera App version 7.20.21 according to App version info.
The Pie gestures are smooth enough. Only thing is that the ability to hide the navigation bar is still available for applications. So when you swipe to access the bar, you may end up accessing the App switch.
Anything specific for me to look for, let me know.

How is the battery life now and are there any improvement in camera in terms of details in photo??? These are main points i think to be improved. Otherwise I love this phone.
Woah niceee. I'm curious just how One-Handed Mode works with gestures now.

I mean it's a Beta. But definitely better battery life on my Essential phone on official Android Pie.
The battery life seems less. Could be apps, hardware or system management.
Camera part????
how about digital wellbeing or adaptive battery?
I came from samsung and it's not really better with updates but i'm so confused about the community. There is so few people in LG section. The LG G7 must be the most underrated phone of this year. It's a really good phone but the community behind it it's just not big enough to grant development and it's a real shame. Nevertheless I'm still really happy of this phone, especially because for now LG has been releasing constant updates and me might even get Pie before the end of the year.

I am no hero sir. Just a love, hate relationship with LG. The developers on XDA are the savior's. ?
They need to support these phones with bootloader unlocks or custom software. LG, by most means, wastes product launches after launches releasing phones that cone up short. They release good stuff, just need to gain market share from the competition by supporting some software development like they are now.
I hope they can aplly my request now like i request before regarding a build in parallel
I hope they will work this for next update
*build app lock pin, fingerprint and face recognition
*adjustable from solid white/color to transparent per app on lock screen
As my experience on pantech phones
There a app they called Secret box
You can put a file like photos, videos doc, etc and also app
Secret box features
If you use fingerprint those app and some file can see on phone but if you just use pin
You can see those app and files
I almost try almost all high end and branded phone but no one do like that secret bos on pantech
I Hope LG will do like those

You hit the nail on the head, unlock bootloaders, this is why theres such a small community for LG phones, we cant develop or write any AOSP ROMs for it with a locked bootloader. This is such a poor decision by LG which will continue the companies' fall in the decline of sales, they will continue to lose customers until they allow us this simple freedom. Without it, unlocked bootloader, we cant ROOT, we cant do anything with custom Android ROM building, which in my onion is the sole reason for Android, customization!
I have a favorite launcher I have used for years and would like to continue doing so when I get my Z Flip 2. Does anyone have any information what what can be expected when trying to use a launcher other than UI Samsung provides? For those interested, the launcher I've used since 2017 is Action Launcher (and of course I do have others, but I always return to AL).
I sent Lacy an email on this; they usually respond quickly. I tried searching the OG subsection without hitting paydirt.
Yes Lacy does usually get right back. I also sent the question to him. I may have to just wait and try it myself.
I can't imagine it'll be an issue. The only issue would be when you try to use a third party launcher with native gestures - it works, but it's buggy. OneUI 2.5 promised a fix, but that wasn't the case.
Most work but don't support two screen layouts yet, that much can be gleaned from the OG subsection. Launcher aficionados will of course want two different setups so both screens can be maximised.
I saw a reddit post of someone using Tasker and some event loop, to have the default launcher in the external small screen and Nova Launcher in the Tablet one for the original Fold. Can't expect that though to be the best choice. I think at least in the first few months we'd have to stick to the default...
Seems like the plan will be to try and see if it works. Stock is always the default, however, default is (seldom?) the best choice, especially when one knows the many options there are for custom.
My money is on them making it happen. I worked with them when gestures first came out which at first conflicted with the drawer pull out from the bottom (this was pre official google gestures) and they fixed it in a matter of days. This of course might take more time but they are very reactive to making these things happen. Folding devices are not going away and they butter their bread by selling that launcher, it's not a side job. I'm fairly confident it will be coming and in the near term rather than further out.
Do you think Lawnchair will work ok?
Give them time to get hands on and sure most mainstream ones will work.
I sent this to Lacy as well, but there has not been a response yet. I am sure he needs to hake a good look first.
He is always great with replies.
Q: Foldables (Z Fold2) Support?
Vagelis
Sun, Sep 13, 4:36 PM (2 days ago)
to support
Greetings Chris,
I am a long time user and supporter of AL.
As I am switching to a Galaxy Z Fold 2, I am curious as to whether you would consider supporting the dual screen layout that the Fold 2 has.
The stock launcher has different layouts for each screen, which allows customization of the different usage scenarios each screen offers.
There also appears to be API documentation from Google and Samsung to support this.
https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/foldables
https://developer.samsung.com/sdp/b...how-to-update-your-apps-for-foldable-displays
https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy-z/ux-and-ui-considerations.html
I know that technically we can use AL with the same layout for both screens, but the dpi changes make the single layout for both screens not optimal for neither.
This might be a good opportunity for AL to acquire some new users; others in the field have an interesting response:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold...thinks_galaxy_fold_and_foldables_in/?sort=old
I would love to continue using AL with the Fold, but for now I guess I'd have to downgrade my user experience. No Covers, no Shutters... it makes me shudder (wink, wink).
What are your thoughts please?
Thank you for your consideration.
Stay safe and healthy.
I am in the same boat, my Z Fold 2 comes today. I've been using Action Launcher for years as my favorite launcher. Nothing else compares. I hope support will be added and I'm happy to lend a hand if I can.
I have not heard from Chris yet. I am sure it will take some time to figure this out. If I were to base progress on the availability of cases, I'd say, patience grasshopper..
Not all is lost however.
Since Sept 16th, when I received my Fold2, I've been using the stock Launcher with Home Up (Good Lock plugin).
The experience has been great, and the dual layout is very practical. I can't say I miss AL that much...
Worth setting it up and taking advantage of the dual setup. Until any 3rd party Launcher supports the same, I'm sticking with stock.

Successfully using Nova Launcher on mine. You can even have two different wallpapers, though the rest of the settings are mirrored on both screens. No issues yet using this, scales really well.
~
After a few days of ownership, I'm still not sure. Currently using the stock Samsung launcher but missing Action's features and customization. Samsung's launcher is so basic.
I also tried the tasker method of changing launchers based on the screen. It works but I don't like when I go from one screen to the other and see the wrong launcher before hitting the home button again.
At the same time, having a launcher with the same layout stretched on both screens wouldn't work for me because I like to take advantage of the very large inner screen with lots of icons and widgets that would simply not translate well to the front screen.
I really hope developers of launchers will consider adding folding support.
I don't have issues with Nova since my home screen is only the dock ...

Yeah, you can run action that way as well but it isn't what we want. I was glad to see that the edge screen still exists with 3rd party launchers so you can still set app pairs with it. Really wish they'd let us set them anywhere.
as a couple of others have said, Nova Launcher is working fine.

Every launcher 'works' if you use the exact same layout and sizing on both screens.
That's horrible. Try the default launcher and see what its supposed to be like.
Also, does anyone else have issues with a long pause between wallpaper showing and the icons appearing when you had the launcher open on the front screen and then change it to the big screen?
I'm on action and no problems at all other than being able to make dedicated setups.

I have to fix an issue where launching the app on the cover screen requires you to kill it in the recent apps before it will launch again with the phone open.
Repository may look a bit ugly until I squash code written in the phone browser.

Working on that.
Which apps have you gotten to work so far? Weirdly enough for me it was only the camera (with tiny cutout of the app, but it starts). No settings/gallery/contacts/maps/gmail/whatsapp and many other apps I tried. When tapping on them it just freezes and I have to press the power button the turn off the cover screen again. I do see them in the recent apps though, they just don't show on the cover screen. Just updated to the latest build, but same results besides not seeing them in recent apps anymore
Basically all my apps work, but I have to kill / click them in recents when opening the screen to launch them again. Still trying to resolve that.
Interesting, just got my Flip a couple days ago and although I would hate too uninstall Samsung Health, I'm curious if you would be able to watch a little mini Youtube video on the cover screen with this app, has anyone tried it?

Weird I can't get any I try to work (besides camera). The list just freezes (can't scroll up/down/left/right) when trying to start them
I updated the limitations list to document some of the current issues and how to work around them.
Until there is a proper API for cover widgets, some of them may be unavoidable (ie. keyboard)

Yes, videos do appear to work in the YouTube app, sound and all.
Edit: FIXED. (Mostly)
If you open the screen with an app running on the cover, it will resume. If you tap power while running an app on the cover, it will add the app to recent tasks and resume it normally when opening the screen.
Some apps still burn out (ie Firefox) and don't always launch. It's rare, but still worth looking into to avoid the inconvenience.
For those who installed a previous version ("Remove unused activities and resources" or earlier):
You may need to uninstall to install the newest version. This is part of an effort to get this widget running alongside the Samsung Health app (or a slightly modified version of it).
In theory, using a 'sharedUserId' will allow two apps to exist with shared resources, as long as they are signed with the same signature. Since Samsung Health can be uninstalled (making it a user app), it should be possible to use the signature from this widget and the sharedUserId to make a modified version of the app without the widget that will run alongside it.

Builds are now mirrored to releases, so hopefully that removes the login requirement
Not sure why, but I can't start any app, it's just freezing the cover screen when tapping on an app. No app worked. Restarted the phone then the camera was working (as in previous versions), sadly no other app still.. Also reinstalled and rebooted but no help.
From what I've seen testing launching some apps on the cover screen, apps need the
XML:
<meta-data android:name="com.samsung.android.activity.showWhenLocked" android:value="true"/>
manifest attribute in each of the activities you want to launch to allow them to be launched while the phone is locked. Otherwise, any activities launched while the phone is closed are queued to open on the main screen once the phone is unlocked.

Turns on cover screen and glows the edges of your cover screen just like the Edge Lighting on your main screen.
You can set a single solid color for all incoming notification or let CSOS apply the App's Icon color.
If you have multiple notifications from multiple Apps, they can combine into a beautiful gradient.
More colors, customizations under development.
FLEX MODE:
Use cover screen with access to all CSOS features while the phone is unfolded.
Keep the phone on your desk or bed in tent-style stand mode.
Cover screen stays on until you manually disable Flex Mode or fold back your phone.
DEVELOPMENT STATUS:
The OS requires some heavy sustained development effort to deliver a feature complete version. The OS has come a long way and it’s mostly stable now as reported by majority of the users.
CoverScreen OS IN ACTION:
SNAPS OF Z FLIP 3 RUNNING CoverScreen OS:
THE ORIGIN STORY:Been working on this project since the original Z Flip, but unfortunately had to suspend development due to cracked screen (that countless folding/unfolding while testing.)
The release of Z Flip 3 with a bigger cover screen was enough incentive for me to be excited about the project once again but unfortunately I again hit a bottleneck as the screen started bleeding this streak of green light right at the center and sometimes whole of second half.
Fearing a cracked screen once again, I had suspended the development yet again… but… that cute little cover screen… here we are.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM:
DOWNLOAD:After thousands of unfolding/unfolding, happy to announce that, beta version of CoverScreen OS is now available for open testing on Google Play store!
If you find CSOS meaningful for your Z Flip 3/4, please leave a review on Google Play Store!

Hi!
Working on A12?
Thanks for your work!
Excellent look forward to trying out on app on my zflp3. Does it work with one UI 4.0?
Hey guys! I am glad to report that, CoverScreen OS supports One UI 4.0!
This is pretty awesome. When you get notifications, can you actually type full replies from the cover instead of having to open or select from a few auto replies? Does dismissing notifications as dismiss from app like stock?

Absolutely, you'll be able to use Voice Keyboard to type in your replies, infact, auto-replies isn't implemented yet.
You can see it in action at 01:00:

Yeah that's voice to text, but looks like no actual just typing only yet?
This is very impressive, great work!
I definitely looking forward to the quick setting tiles. I could never understand why Samsung gave us the sound tile only.
m.
Nice! Gonna love it!
Great news! Thanks for the hard work. Most interesting news this year
Is it mandatory to disable any lock screen to make this work?
This is great. Looking forward. Nice work and thanks for making Flip 3 even better.

You can see in the video the long press to unlock via bixby + fingerprint is being used. Same method you can use for SamSprung launcher when using a lockscreen.
Any chance you've taken a look at your preview forms? Not trying to push ya just excited to try it out
UPDATE:Thank you everyone for showing an active interest in the project, glad to let you know all that that those who have filled the forms have been sent an invite to try an early preview of the OS. Not to mention it's a work in progress, look forward to feedback.
Will soon promote to open beta testing, cheers!

Didnt get the invite/apk and i filled out the app. Would love to try this.
Also sent you a pm about contribution.
I am testing it right now and its supposed to be buggy but I am already loving it. I'll keep providing feedback here.
One main issue is that the app drawer is not scrolling. I can't open any other app other than the first two rows.

The one and only true Z Flip cover screen IME
If blocking keyboards doesn't prevent using one,
does blocking them really make sense?
After releasing the code to enable keyboards as part of SamSprung TooUI, this is a standalone cover screen IME. This project has been developed in the hope of one day being natively supported.

Setup is relatively easy.
Enable the permissions
-> appear over apps to allow it to display
-> accessibility to toggle it on the fly
Enable keyboard (do NOT set as default)
A free version has been released here through GitHub. The GitHub version has been posted exclusively on xda as a thank you to everyone who has been a part of SamSprung since it began. It is basic, but functional. The Google Play version will be updated with additional features and improvements.
Traditional keyboard functionality has been specifically blocked on the cover screen by a root level configuration.
This app bypasses current limitations by creating the keyboard around the field instead of fields requesting a cached keyboard instance.

If a picture is worth 1000 words, it would take hundreds to match the code being written.
It somehow not working for me.
Sorry for the delay. In pulling the keyboard out of the main app, it's still trying to end the service when the device goes idle. Since there is no longer a master service to restart it, it only runs once.
Fix should be up in a couple minutes.
Should stay alive now.
Being completely honest, the keyboard works about 100 times better separate from the launcher. The two biggest issues, one of which was restoring the default when not in use, are much easier to manage when all the other parts don't get in the way.
Now that it's a separate project, we can also start doing adjustable size and themes and all the other proper keyboard stuff that couldn't really fit before.
Added sound and vibration options. The sound may not sync perfectly. Still working out a better way to do that.
I've also decided to make the Google Play release a paid app to start recovering a little of the cost. The version here will still be free. The only real difference will be that the version on Google Play will continue to receive cosmetic updates and new features.

Nice. I'm actually glad you did a paid version of the keyboard given all the work you've done on the whole Samsprung development project. I didn't buy the Play Store version of the keyboard but I made another contribution today towards the Samsprung development project. I think everyone using the Samprung launcher and/or keyboard should at a minimum buy the Play Store version of the keyboard just to contribute in some way towards this project. It's a very small price to pay for something that has made our cover screen much better than what Samsung has done with it. Keep up the good work, twistedumbrella!!
Thanks @crawls69! You've always been a great supporter and it really means a lot.
@twistedumbrella Is this a keyboard for the cover screen? If so, I can't get it to work....

The logcat button can collect a log of any crashes. If it isn't a crash, it may have to do with the type of entry box you're trying to use it on. What have you tried?
Responding to text messages from the native message app.
Alright. I'll run some tests and see if I can reproduce the issue.
Is it just not appearing at all? As in not even a flicker.
I rearranged some things to avoid the keyboard getting cancelled out by other views. Hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Not showing up at all.
Is that still the case? I was able to get it to stop appearing in a couple tests and patched those issues. I haven't been able to get it to not appear since, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of a situation I missed.
Admittedly, it is much MUCH easier to simply include the keyboard in the app using it, especially with accessibility.
Rather than catching the call to enable the keyboard, an InputConnection can be generated from the field itself. Some may not care about passing all of your views through the app, but I treat everyone else's data like I would my own. Grabbing the field and modifying it within the app seems like a huge risk for privacy concerns.
The alternative would be to create an invisible entry box and write to it. This would generate the required InputConnection and avoid directly traversing the screen, but has a large performance cost.
The final version is to temporarily take the default keyboard role. This gives the keyboard the default InputConnection and allows typing directly into an entry box, much the same way a conventional IME would do it. There is one part that hasn't been implemented yet to make this ideal, but where's the fun in copying code and not doing any work?

Still not showing up on the cover screen. The picture shows it showing up in my notification panel.
@Landrea made a good point. This needs a preview.
Not the prettiest in the world, but now it has one.

My point was I couldn't see what I was writing. Now the keyboard has the preview. Not the best one, but still, good job @twistedumbrella . Keep working on this project, it really has value!
It's super ugly right now, but I'm working on getting it somewhat bearable.

twistedumbrella,
It may be super ugly to you but it's drop dead gorgeous to me. LOL
I was willing to accept the fact that I would never have the same experience on the Z Flip 3 cover screen that I did on my RAZR 5G cover display. But you keep getting us closer to it. I no longer miss the functionality of the RAZR 5G cover display (except for the fact that it's larger). That said, is there any way you can do an update that causes the cover screen to physically expand to perhaps 2.7 inches or so? LOL. You already accomplished what was apparently impossible for Samsung to do. Who knows??
As much as I use the cover screen, I was actually gonna get rid of the Z Flip 3 and go back to the RAZR 5G after Android 12 cause the widget version of Samsprung to stop working. I'm glad I didn't. I would be kicking myself right now.
I'm usually not one to throw shade but given what all has been accomplished with the Samsprung launcher and keyboard, Samsung should be really ashamed of themselves. I'm sure they have an army of resources at their disposal that could have easily gotten this done (they have a market capitalization in excess of $400 billion). They should offer you a licensing deal!!
