WiFi not staying on Z5, Marshmallow 6.0 - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ever since I upgraded to Marshmallow 6.0 it would seem my Wifi won't stay on when the phone sleeps. This has started to cause me data issues so I was wondering if anyone else had these issues or a possible fix?
My wifi is set to stay on at all times.
6.0 removed stamina mode, there is currently no battery saving modes turned on
I have done a factory reset through the companion tool, but the issue still seems to occur
Thanks for any help, insights or assistance!

Which mm version do you have?

Phone is completely stock, no unlocks, roms or bootloader has been touched.
Android version 6.0
Kernel Version 3.10.84-perf-g19d6d92
Build Number 32.1.A.1.185
Sorry unsure if I answered your question I'm not familiar with what "mm" means.

Wifi just scans and never connects

I just upgraded to 5.1.1 ...I posted an update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008702 to my post but assumed most never saw it....
anyhow....ever since moving to the update my wifi just spins. It recognizes that there are services available but it never gives me an option to connect to them. Any ideas?
after a sleep? or after upgrade to 5.1.1?
I have encountered this issue before on tnt lite 4.2. I simply rebooted it and reset your wireless router. and then no issue to me.
check out this thread if it is after a sleep.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1006112&highlight=wifi+scan
I don't 100% remember but I think that there is a custom kernel to fix/improve the wifi problem? Anyone can confirm it?

There were some issues regarding sleep (mostly failures to wake, causing reboots, and CPU throttle getting stuck on sleep).
However, those on the 5.0 TNTl are stuck with the existing kernel. Not to bash TNT - I've used 4.X and 5.X versions and think its great - just that it's in its own little world as far as kernel and recovery options.
no sleep...just straight after the update. I have searched the forum and done anything that looks like it might work. Reset the router several times, stood within 6" of the router. Re-booted probably 100 times.
I went back and cleared the darvlick cache and did a factory reset. Re-installed 5.1 thinking this might help but from my noob eyes it looks like 5.1.1 is still running (based on the background wallpaper only).
That is the frustrating thing for me...if this happened on my pc I would go get a new driver or reinstall the hardware and I would be back up and running...with Android and ROM I am completely lost.
++UPDATE++
Just checked into the hotel and the wifi works on an open connection. I really don't want to open my home network if can avoid it...typical suburban cul de sac with too many people that would to steal some wifi

Wifi turns off when screen is locked

So a couple of months ago this started happening. I was running 5.0.1 and now I´m on 5.1 and it is the same.
Wifi is set to "always on". If the phone is blocked for a short time wifi works fine but if I don´t keep unblocking the screen it just turns off. It turns on automatically when I unlock the phone. This happens in any wifi network.
I know it´s more energy efficient this way but this is really anoying when having a phonecall over the internet, when using spotify or just when receiving whatsapp messages.
I did not wait for the OTA updates. I rooted my Moto G XT1032 to update from kitkat using the brazilian rom. I also used the GPE method to update to 5.1
Did I do something wrong? Is this a known lollipop issue? Any pointers? So far I´ve only found a couple of solutions involving installing a 3rd party app.
Thanks!
Try to flash a new ROM,wifi set and installing a third party app are two usual ways causing this problem ,if you are sure you have set right ,I think it is a ROM problem. Sorry for my English.

No Wi-Fi on Nexus 5 - on any version of Android

The Wi-Fi on my wife's unrooted Nexus 5 (Sprint version) which was upgraded (via OTA) to Marshmallow last month suddenly stopped working last week. The slider would get hung while moving from Off to On (like it was trying to turn on) and therefore was not detecting any available Wi-Fi signals.
After trying many things, I eventually did the extreme and did a full factory data reset. No dice. Still not detecting anything.
Figuring it might be an OS issue with Marshmallow (given we're seeing a lot of forums indicating Nexus 5 issues based on Wi-Fi with both Marshmallow and Lollipop), we downgraded the OS first to Lollipop and then all the way back to KitKat (4.4). Still not working. At initial phone setup, the phone is not detecting any available WiFi signals and gets hungup trying to find networks for me to choose from - so I end up having to skip this step.
Any other tips out there on what I can try? Is this a sure sign of hardware problems? Don't think my wife's phone is under warranty any longer (have had it slightly over a year, I think).
PS - Now I can no longer even upgrade the phone (OTA, at least) from 4.4.4 because my phone is saying it needs Wi-Fi to download the update - with no option to do it over my data plan.
I'm in the same situation and it appears to be a hardware failure. The wifi chip can't be replaced so a motherboard swap is required.
You can upgrade to the latest stock ROM by flashing the entire ROM from a command prompt in Win7.
Plot thickens
So, I figured out a way to get the OTA's over LTE (by manually changing my phone's date up a week). While going through each OS update from 4.4 KitKat to 6.0 Marshmallow (about 5 or 6 rounds of them) my phone briefly was able to detect WI-FI, I believe during set up at 5.1.1 Lollipop - and I was able to get on my home network.
Probably should have just stopped updating after that, but definitely was not detecting anything after that. I lost it during one of the Lollipop updates - well before getting to 6.0. Not sure if WiFi was actually working well or not.
Maybe the chip is in the process of failing? Not sure but it seems like you are having better luck than me.

I wish. Don't want to go through all those steps again after doing a clean wipe to have a fleeting glimpse of Wi-Fi.

Hi, pagalbengal. I'm having the same problems right now, and I wanted to check with you to see if there have been any developments with your situation over the past month. Still hopeless? Have you contacted Google tech support? Do they still even support this phone? Thanks for any info.
You guys might want to try reflash the modem firmware.
Couldn't get my wi-fi to work so I replaced the motherboard. Every stock and custom ROM I tried could not enable wi-fi.

WiFi disconnect when screen turn off

Hi guys, I have a little issues with my nexus. When I lock the device, the wifi turn off and reconnect as soon as unlock the device. I've started to have this issue 3 weeks ago, I've updated from stock android 6 to 6.0.1 and the problem are still there (I've tried using cm and 2 or 3 others roms too). I don't have any energy save app or samething like that, and the option in "advance wifi" is set in always on.
I'm trying to read the log but I don't understand where is the wifi problem.

Hi,
Have you tried restoring to the latest factory image https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images with a full wipe?
(make sure to backup any data that you wish to keep before hand)

Yep, twice
This is a known issue that started with 6.0/Marshmallow.
It’s discussed in this thread.
Please to go the official Android Issue Tracker entry and star the item to vote for it. It’s already a high priority and been acknowledged by Google, but wasn’t fixed in 6.0.1. More exposure might help get it fixed sooner rather than later.

I'm having this issue since I first used this phone (upgraded to Lollipop right away). It has been around before MM, but back then it felt I was the only one. I had given up.
Please turn off any battery saving applications or battery saver feature and then check again if the issue still occurs....

Android Wear and Z5 Nougat

Hi guys, just installed the proper Nougat clean install via Flashtool and rooted the device. I noticed that Bluetooth turns itself off every now and then and doesn't turn back on. Is this happening to anybody else ? I usually use the Moto 360 v2 with the Z5 and on MM, it doesn't happen that way.

Im using the smartwatch via bluetooth and everything's fine
I think I found out why. Greenify's aggressive doze seems to be the culprit. Once I got that turned off Bluetooth stays on
Seems like even uninstalling greenify didn't work for me, Bluetooth still turned off after a while. Will continue to look for the root cause and solutions and post if there's a solution.
Feel free to chime in if anybody has answers
What is your kernel, ROM, etc.. ? I think if you have LineageOs 7.1.1 it's a bug caused by the ROM, I had this bug previously. So, try to return to 6.0.1 Marshmallow and retry with your Android watch.
Just got the official Nougat update (32.3.A.0.376) a few days ago, and I'm also getting the same issue on my Huawei Watch. Can't find any setting to keep it from turning off Bluetooth. It's starting to annoy me, honestly. But the rest of the phone is largely improved since the update, so overall, I'm OK with staying with the Nougat build.
SW3 here no problems. .372.
stock .376 rom doesnt have any issues with bluetooth and SW3
