S6 with odd issue on camera app - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
i'm using a brand new Samsung S6.
When I try to open the camara app I get the following message:
"EVT OR CAL ERROR. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR TEST DEVICE"
What happens is that if I try to take a pic without flash, everything works fine.
If I try to use the flash, the phones shuts down and "dies" and it won't work at all....
The only solution is to connect it to the wall charger and then it will wake up and work as if nothing happened.
I've googled the forum and other websites, and although there are several owners stating they had the same problem, I haven't found a solution to get this solved.
I've flashed a new rom from sammobile.
I've cleaned the app cache
I've cleaned the phone's cache
I've tried 3rd party apps....but the problem remains.
Can anyone help me?

[Q] Facebook Messenger Problems on Nexus 5

I have been having some troubles with Facebook Messenger on my Nexus 5. It has been the same problem since I got the phone in January. When I try to log in to the app, it comes up with the message "Something went wrong, please try again".
After doing some research, I found that taking out the SIM card or putting the device into Airplane mode let you log in.
However, when the device is taken off Airplane mode or the SIM card is put back in, that's when the real problems start. When I pull down to refresh the messages manually, it comes up with "Something went wrong".
I also can't receive any pictures in my messages.
Voice calls also don't work. It doesn't seem like every Nexus 5 has this problem, as it works for some people. I've also seen some Nexus 4 owners having the same problem. I've tried it on both Dalvik & ART, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing the data and cache and even a factory reset. Nothing's changed. The only thing that I can think of that is causing the problems are differences between international, carrier and U.S. versions of the phone. Does anyone else have this problem, or has a fix to the problem? If you can, state the specs of your device, e.g. 32GB carrier. I'm using a 16GB International version.
Thanks guys.

Camera app is not working

Hello everybody
My Nexus 5 recently captured my attention as the camera is not workig anymore. I have the latest android version, not the L however, an it's unrooted. I only have retrica and instagram for taking picture as well, but they don't seem to work too due to this problem. I don't know where the problem can be originated from, but when I open the camera app it says Cannot connect to the camera. Has anyone of you exeperience it? How did you solve it?
I tried to delete the data from the app menu, stopped it, unistalled and reinstalled the updates but nothing has changed.
Thank you
Did you already try these suggestions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/connect-to-camera-error-upgrading-to-4-t2564457
Camera not working can be one of the frustrating things when you use a phone. As it involves hardware nothing much can be done. I use Cyanogen based phone which has not given me any problem. I would suggest to try it as it is heavily reliable.
did you try a reboot? seems so simple, but it can fix

XZP camera crashes the phone quite often

Hi,
Does anyone have an issue with XZP camera app? The camera app randomly crashes the phone quite often. I tried to clear the cache, make software repair and non of those options solved the problem. There was no issue in safe mode but maybe I didn't run the mode long enough to simulate the problem. I run 45.0.A.5.1 firmware version. No new update available for my version yet.
I have this problem too. Everytime I access camera from 3rd party app (E.g. Facebook, instagram, Manual Camera) My phone is unresponsive for minutes. Access camera from shutter button while phone is sleep can also cause this too.
Now I avoid this issue by took pictures with sony camera first and then browse it from 3rd party app.
But I experience the issue when I start the camera via hardware button also via original app shortcut
I have this problem as well, it doesn't happen every time but it happens often when I open the camera, the phone freezes and reboots. Does yours reboot or do you just force stop the camera app?
Yeah exactly, the phone reboots. How did you solve the problem. I tried to contact the Sony support but they recommended common procedures like clear cache and software repair (factory reset). None of those solutions helped at all
What model number do you have guys?
Sent from my G8142 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I have G8141.
I also tried to find solution on Sony support forum but no one from the support team isn't interested:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Camera/Xperia-XZ-Premium-Camera-crashes-phone-often/td-p/1235611
Does anyone know if this is being seen on all firmware? I have the G8142 with Hong Kong firmware, I haven't heard my wife mention this issue and she has the G8142 with the US firmware.
I have a Germany Vodafone firmware having this issue
I've got the same problem on my Z1 compact. It comes with the braodcom security patch almost 2 weeks ago. Phone runs hot, freezes, reboots or needs to become rebooted.
Looks like there's no suggestions or solution so far. The best would be to flash another version of firmware. But since Munjeni has been banned there is no guide how to flash 2017 models and where to download the latest version of the flash tool. Any idea?
The problem seems to be solved after the last update 45.0.A.7.120. No camera crash past 3 days!
Today the camera crashed again So unfortunately the issue has not been solved!

i think the problem is not with camera app or software. please use in safe mode. if it is yes we can think its because of software. but my think is its because of 3rd party app. please try to think and uninstall the software's what you installed in latest.
i think this is the solution. not because of the camera app or Sony software issue
I got the same answer from Sony support. Since it's occasional bug it is very hard to find out which app can cause the issue. I tried to unistall most of apps. But sometimes it's very often and sometimes it takes 1 to 2 days to crash the camera. Should I only look for app with permision to camera or it can be any app even not using the camera?
i have this issue too, i got the phone like two days ago and i'm upset about this issue. However i tried yesterday to remove the sd card to see if it will help resolve the problem will my phone haven't crashed yet, it may be the source of the problem.

Interesting you say this as I was having issues with my SD card when it was used for camera photo storage... My Lexar 1000x 128gb card would work for a few days, then photos would become corrupted and camera crashing began.. not long after, games started having issues and not loading and even after rebooting the phone and wiping the apps cache/data, it would still crash. So I pulled the card, full reset the phone, and zero issues ever since.
I recently bought a Samsung 256gb Evo Plus microsd, and after a few weeks, zero issues. all good..

camera not available in my phone.. hardware tested my phone

Hi XDA guys, I am Aaron pippen.. My phone first had an issue of camera has stopped working, I did everything among the solution that Google recommended, did a hard reset but all in vain. I opted for uninstalling and reinstalling the app but failed still. I did a hardware test on my phone and and a "camera not available" query popped upon camera test. How can I get through this bse I did everything even rebooting the phone in safety mode plus installing 3rd party camera apps, everything failed. Could this be a hardware issue?
Thank you.

Yes, more than likely a hardware issue. One other thing you can possibly try is to re-flash your stock firmware to repair any potentially corrupted software on your device. I know you did a hard reset but that doesn't fix corrupted software.

Almost certainly sounds like a hardware fault with the camera. But as suggested above, last resort would be to backup any data you need on your phone, then reflash the firmware, to see if that resolves the problem.
What phone is it?

Updates stuck at 100%, Gmail does not notify, and other issues.

I am desperate, I can't find the issue here. I have a S10 (Xfinity unlocked on Verizon) , I can't seem to update apps, they get stuck at 100% or 99%, AND some things like Gmail and Instagram do not seem to notify that I am getting messages.
Here's the kicker, I factory reset the phone some 5 times now, and still have the issue. The Reset fixes it for a few days (if even a day) and then the issue starts up again!
the phone was just upgraded to 10, but it was happening on 9 also!
no clue what the problem is ! it kills me! Please anyone have any idea? I even had an authorized Samsung dealer do a "software refresh" and then wiped out the phone again, and I'm still having the same issue..
HELP! please.
thank you

Boot into safe mode, it will only load your system apps and not your user apps. Then try to update your apps, if it works then you know the issue is being cause one of your user apps. Then you just need to identify which user app is the offending app.
It also might be caused by a conflict between various settings or maybe you have some things disabled or turned off that are causing this.

That kinda works.. but again, as said, I have reloaded the phone over and over, and it works fine, until a few days later and stars over.. And updating is not the only problem, Geolocating is slow, sluggish or not working sometimes, Push updates of emails are slower or not happening. just weird things..
I am not sure what it could be! its like the phone is the problem!

Ok, everything I posted went completely over your head, I'll try again.
If it is working like it is supposed to while in safe mode(which is only loaded with system apps and system settings and not any of your user apps or data) that tells you that the issue is caused by some user app that you have installed or something in your user settings. In other other words, it is very likely something that you, as the user, have installed or setup/selected, it is probably not the device. It keeps happening after resetting because you are not changing what you are doing that it is causing it, it is something that you keep returning to after resetting the device. You just need to figure out which user app is causing the issue or whatever settings are causing the issue.
The way to do that will be trial and error. Uninstall one of the apps that you have installed, then use the device for a few hours, if the issue continues, that wasn't the app causing the issue, reinstall that app then choose another user app to uninstall and then use the device for a few hours, if the issue continues, that is t the app, reinstall that app, and so on and so on, etc... Get the picture? When you uninstall an app and the issue stops, the last app uninstalled is probably the app causing the issue.
I suggest resetting the device again. Then, only install one of your usual apps but don't install any others and don't change any settings, use the device a while, if the issue does not occur, install another one of your usual apps but don't install any others, basically, install one app at a time until the issue occurs, when it does, the last app installed is probably the offending app.
Or, if you don't find it that way and you get all of your usual apps installed without triggering the issue during the trial and error process, then you need to go through settings by trial and error. Changing one setting at a time and using the device a while to see if the issue occurs, if it does, it probably has something to do with the last setting that you changed before the issue occured.
Slowly changing one thing at a time over an extended amount with time between each change, will allow you to isolate exactly which app or setting is causing the issue.
Or maybe you need to flash your stock firmware via PC tools to start over with a clean installation.
