I have been having some troubles with Facebook Messenger on my Nexus 5. It has been the same problem since I got the phone in January. When I try to log in to the app, it comes up with the message "Something went wrong, please try again".
After doing some research, I found that taking out the SIM card or putting the device into Airplane mode let you log in.
However, when the device is taken off Airplane mode or the SIM card is put back in, that's when the real problems start. When I pull down to refresh the messages manually, it comes up with "Something went wrong".
I also can't receive any pictures in my messages.
Voice calls also don't work. It doesn't seem like every Nexus 5 has this problem, as it works for some people. I've also seen some Nexus 4 owners having the same problem. I've tried it on both Dalvik & ART, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing the data and cache and even a factory reset. Nothing's changed. The only thing that I can think of that is causing the problems are differences between international, carrier and U.S. versions of the phone. Does anyone else have this problem, or has a fix to the problem? If you can, state the specs of your device, e.g. 32GB carrier. I'm using a 16GB International version.
Thanks guys.

Has anyone else had problems with Facebook Messenger not letting you login?
I've had the exact same thing happen on my Nexus 7, and I'm thinking it has something to do with having root. (Facebook messenger worked on my Nexus 7, but then stopped shortly after i got root)
Just to clarify, it says "Something went wrong" when i try to login.

Ahh, the bane of my existence.
I haven't been able to get Facebook messenger to work on my Nexus 4 at all, although it works on other phones. I was positive it was going to work on the Nexus 5 and was devastated to see I was getting the same error.
I've posted this issue before here but have not found a solution.
If you sideload version 1.8 that'll work, but yeah... I think we should pool some cash prize for someone to figure out what the issue is and how to fix it!
Damn!
Hopefully someone at Facebook gets a Nexus 5 then.

Follow these steps -
Power off the device
Take the sim card out
Power on the device
Open FB messenger and try to login, everything should work fine now
Power off the device again
Put the sim back
Power on the device
This should make messenger working to some level, still not fully functional but you'll be able to send and receive messages now.
I know now you must be thinking what this app has to do with sim card. Nobody knows, Facebook is definitely doing something stupid here.
Hope it'll help.
Cheers!!
I've had no issues with facebook messenger on my nexus 5 rooted.

Yeap. I had already stumbled across the solution last month and had posted my findings here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47677463&postcount=14
So far it seems to be working as normal for me.
Okay, so I found something that seems to be working for me.
1. Go into airplane mode (don't take out the sim) and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
2. Log in as usual
3. When you get to your list of messages, you'll see an orange bar at the top of the screen that says something like "trying to connect"
4. Turn off airplane mode and the orange bar should turn green and say "connected". It should have full functionality now. EDIT: after the app is cleared from the phones RAM, the pull down to refresh doesn't work
Hey,
I noticed that messaging apps (for example whatsapp) crashes whenever I open a conversation that has attachments in it. Or if in the last 20/30 lines is no attachment (picture for.example) but I try to open the contact windows where it shows the name, status and media it crashes while loading the media. I tried clearing the cache of whatsapp and the system media app. Tried clearing cache and dalvik. Tried scanning the media with some apps. I deleted the newest pics i received because i thought maybe they were corrupted. Nothing helped. This occured after updating to 30O.
PS: I'm not going to wipe/reset my phone because I don't have the time to restore everything after such a reset.

Unfortunately for you the next step would be a factory reset. But if you're not willing to do that I guess you'll have to live with it. Or completely wipe the whatsapp data and start fresh with the app.

I already thought that something went wrong when I updated to 30O so I just flashed the full ROM over my 25R with 30O OTA and now everything seems to work fine. Thank you for your efforts

"Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."
I also had this problem. Kept getting this message when re-reading received messages, and, couldn't attach multimedia files. Found the answer from kspohn at an oneplus one forum. Thanks kspohn. It worked.
AT&T People without mms working here is the solution.
Call AT&T support. Go to wireless tech support when going through all the press # for (department name) mumbo jumbo.
Tell them you got a new phone and you need to activate mms on it by giving them IMEI number located on the packaging of your Oneplus One box particularly by the bar code sticker. This is like a SS for your specific phone
They will then ask you to power cycle the phone (turn it off for 10 sec) so call them originally with another phone.
They will then send a test mms to make sure it works. This only works for the global version of the phone so....... yea
Some At&T employees are aware of this phone... guy bro AT&T guy said it looked uber sweetles.
So, I've been trying to install The Economist and LastPass on my new little S6, but just about nothing happens when I hit install. Restarted and cleared cache to no avail. What gives?
Have you guys had any luck?
Also, anyone with insight as to the LastPass promotion? I've read that you get between 3-6 months of free premium...
I have a S6 running 5.1.1, and I am having a similar problem. Whenever I try to install an app from galaxy apps, it downloads, but gets stuck on 'installing', and the app never installs. I have tried clearing the cache and data from my galaxy apps app, and then performing a reboot, but it is still the same? Anyone else having the same problem?
Are your S6's with or without a simlock?
I have a S6 without a simlock and it works just fine.
My phone is sim unlocked.
I am also having a problem with Skype. I can recieve calls, but I can't make calls. Whenever I try to call someone Skype to Skype, it just says 'connecting' all the time, and then just hangs after a minute or so?
I'm having some serious problems with Google Now.
About a month ago, maybe a little more, I noticed Google Now wasn't updating anymore. I had a card at the top that said "No internet connection. Content last updated x days ago." Weird, because I hadn't done anything different or noticed any other changes. Since then, I've tried everything to get it fixed. Whenever I first open the app after a clean flash, the initial "accept these things" comes up, but when I hit "Yes, I'm in," I get a toast notification saying "Network error. Check your network connections and try again." My connections are definitely working, as every other app works. I've tried on wifi and 3g/4g. Clearing app cache/data. Wiping system/data/caches, reinstalling. Tried 4.3, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, stock, and TW. Tried multiple gapps. Tried different Gmail accounts. All do the exact same thing.
I've done quite a bit of research on the issue, and have come up empty so far. This suggested reviewing my connected apps and removing old or unnecessary ones. Nope. This and this suggested deleting card preferences, which seemed to work for a lot of people. Not me. I tried that, but got a toast: "Failed to turn off cards due to a network error. Check your network connection and try again." Some other place I can't find anymore mentioned checking my wifi proxy. Nothing wrong there though. The only thing yet to try that I can think of is a full-wipe odin, and I'm hoping to avoid that.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar or have any advice?
TL;DR Getting network errors for Google Now, even though my network is fine. Wiped, tried multiple ROMs, even multiple Gmail accounts. Still same error.
Hi,
did you ever get this issue resolved? I have tried everything too and still can't use google now. please help if you resolved this issue. thanks!
First this is a rant, and I have seen multiple threads with some of the same problems.
1. Day one (right after unboxing) when I first powered on the device, I could not hear the other person on the phone. I tried calling multiple times, I even called on facebook messenger, they could hear me, but I could not hear them. The only way for me to get around this was to reboot my phone. This went away for a little bit, but has been happening again and again more frequently now.
2. BT will randomly switch from headset/stereo to phone speaker without any warning. Just a simple swap from talking to someone over BT and then thinking they hung up or disconnected, only finding out that it decided to swap from BT to phone. Incredibly annoying, and I have even lost some business calls from it.
3. Stock messaging app does not work. It wont send or receive messages. I have to use another 3rd party app to send and receive my text.
4. I am constantly getting notifications that there is a problem with getting my voicemails. Now I lose calls due to the BT failure, and now I do not get the voicemails when they try to all back.
5. Apps will not install. It will download them but it freezes at the install portion, I have tried clearing everything-cache and what not, and only way to get around this is to reboot the phone again. really annoying when I want to install an app, I have to reboot my phone. Although I have had the same problems with my Note 8, So it is most likely a google issue.
Any one have any ideas on these? I am going to try and talk with TMO but odds are they will tell me to do a system reset.
Thanks.
Have you tried reflashing stock and a factory reset?
I would also suggest the factory reset.
However, I have been having issues with the play store this evening installing apps just as you mentioned. Cleared the cache and rebooted, everything installed fine then.
