Hi: I'm new to the forum. Desperation drove me here.
2 nights ago, I used my Z5 camera (E6603) without a problem at a dinner party. I took plenty of selfies and groupies in both Landscape and Portrait Orientation. I used both the front and reverse cameras without any issues. As of today, the rotate has stopped functioning.
Here is the exact problem: When I hold the phone vertically, the icons for "reverse camera", "video", "superior auto" and "manual" are turned horizontally. When I take the photos (as of today) the image is saved upside down.
I read all the previous threads on "Rotation" from February 2016 and tried most of them and restarted my phone several times. I tried changing the rotate option in settings. None of these options works. I did not install any firmware because I did not understand the process. I have not installed any apps or done anything differently. I've only had the phone about 6 weeks so I truly hope this is not a hardware issue.
Repair ur phone with xperia companion.
Tried Repair with Xperia Companion
Late last night after I posted this message, I tried the Repair process, but the camera continues to orient itself incorrectly.
Resolved-camera orientation/rotation
At 12:04pm EST the camera suddenly oriented itself. The rotation on the phone screen resolved itself too. The only thing I would note is that I had just taken the phone off AC charge, but I don't see how or why charging the phone would resolve this kind of problem from a technical standpoint.
Anyway, my problem is solved! Just to briefly recap why I posted in the first place:
Step 1: 3 days ago, I used my camera at a dinner party-I took lots of photos in landscape and portrait.
Step 2: 2 days later, the rotation on both the camera and the regular phone screens stopped functioning. I basically spent a day changing the orientation in SETTINGS-DISPLAY MENU and doing NUMEROUS RESTARTS.
Step 3: Finally, I did a SOFTWARE REPAIR using XPERIA COMPANION.
Step 4: However, that did not help either. Hours later, the orientation and rotation "suddenly fixed itself."
I hope this helps someone.

I found this page
www[dot]wikitude[dot]org/enupdate-samsung-galaxy-3
...about problems with the Samsung Galaxy (not Galaxy S!) compass. The problems sound exactly like what I'm seeing with my Captivate (i.e. tilting the phone around any axis causes the compass reading to change erratically).
This page is a year old. Not a good sign, huh?
The test app on that page runs fine on my Captivate, but I don't know how to interpret the output.
(Apologies for the [dot]s in the URL above...apparently this forum is really zealous about keeping us newbies from posting links!)
Hey, just curious if you updated your phone to Froyo? Asking because it looks like the similar issue occurs on HTC Desire after OTA update to android 2.2 so wonder if there is some bug with new OS, not depended on the device type... Anyway take a look at the following thread in order to get more info:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747398
Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't upgraded to Froyo or done any ROM flashing. I've rooted, that's all. Rooting was the first thing I did (I won't put up with no sideloading), and I didn't notice the compass trouble until later. I'm new to Android, so after I learn about backups I may do a factory reset and see if things are any different.
Try this to calibrate the compass:
Find a level table. On the phone go to Settings, Display, Horizontal Calibration. Put the phone face down on the table with the lower part of the phone hanging over the edge. Look under the phone and press the "calibrate" button keeping the phone face-down. Don't move the phone. It takes about 3 seconds to calibrate.
It fixed the compass for me the first time, but you may have to try it a couple of times.

Please look at the date before responding to a thread. This was from August 2010 and has either been answered or the poster has moved on. No need to resurrect 7 month old threads.
Trying to avoid a reset but I'm all out of ideas.
-woke up today, screen wont rotate
-Using nova launcher, home screens are enabled to rotate but don't. Neither does messages or browser
-disabled nova launcher, messages/browser/everything else still doesnt rotate
-when i turn on the camera, the icons rotate when i flip it
-did a gyro self test with *#0*#, it passed
I don't know what to do, ideas?
*edit*
-x, y, and z axis all change [from what i can see] properly as i move phone in the *#0*# > sensor test
-downloaded a rolling ball game/app to see if it functioned, it works fine
I have no clue wahts going on. I saw people asking if "screen rotation is enabled" to other people on google, but I don't know of any screen rotation option short of whats in the nova launcher im using [which wouldn't effect webbrowser/etc]
I started a thread about this a few days ago. My will get "stuck" in landscape. It takes a few mins for it to go back. Not sure what is up.

Mines been stuck for about 3 hours now that I'm aware of (but I didn't use it for the last 9 hours). I also know I had a burst of like 30 messages come in from the same person all at once before noticing this issue, I thought their cell service just lagged and shot it all out when it came back online, but I'm starting to wonder if it was my phone doing something weird
Same issues randomly started for me last night as well. From everything I've read there's no definite answer yet. So frustrating.
Hi guys wonder if u can help me please. There might already be a topic regarding this. But I can't seem to get auto rotate working. Wonder if u guys can tell me why please.
Did you try toggling the auto-rotate icon in QuickSettings?
Yes i have done that. I've G Calibrated and done a factory reset. Still the same. Worked fine till the other day.
Just to update. I've managed to sort the issue by tapping the phone twice on my hand.and now it rotates again weird but it works. Read it on a site and tried it and it works don't no why
Hmmm . . . sounds like a hardware issue. Reminds me of the sporadic vibration on my M9 that could be "reset" by banging the phone, at least until it died completely.
I accidentally dropped my phone, 3 days after having it, and it stopped auto rotating, also the double tap to wake stopped as well. Noticed in camera the icons wouldn't rotate. I did the old 6inch drop onto its corner on carpet and it recalibrated the sensor and it worked again.
Hi, my zf6 has been showing signs of madness in the last few days. I updated it to the newest version of android 10, and I have been experiencing a bug where the primary (default) camera doesn't work anymore. It doesn't even show anymore as an option in camera app, and weirder thing when I'm using night or video mode camera looks like the picture attached. Ofc I tried clearing cache/restarting multiple times and so on. It worked a few days ago, since primary camera reappeared and worked again, but now it seems unfixable. Any suggestion? Ps. Not rooted, haven't done anything weird to this phone...:crying:

I have had the same problem. I bought a replacement flip camera and I'm trying to fit it. I have problems with the camera motor that I don't know how to separate it from the broken flip camera.
The June ota update on my pixel2 killed the camera. It literally worked perfectly the day before. At first I could open it, disable, update, then open and it would work, randomly, but now it never works. It was 4 weeks over the two year warranty and Google said they could not help me. Told me that IFixUBreak, the auth repair place could fix it.
Tons of negative reviews on play store, but no answers out there. Any idea? Did the factory reset, nothing, installed other camera apps, nothing. The selfie mode is working. On the rare occasion I could get it on it takes perfect pics for about a minute, then the autofocus goes nuts and it starts to go out of focus then turns off.
Root and install an old OS or other?
My original pixel lasted right at two years as well. Feels like design obsolescence...
Go to developer options> quick setting developer tiles> sensors off. Now you will see a tile to turn on and off your sensors. Try that. When the camera sensor is off the camera will not work. So it could be an issue with the sensor
having same issue, i tried sensor off and on but doesnt work.
