Hey hey,
I received and tried to install an OTA for my GS7 this morning, but unfortunately it failed (stuck for several hours at 76%).
Now when I restart, the phone stays on the GS7 logo, that's about it. I cannot switch it off (not even when keeping the power button down for >1min), but can force restart (vol down + power) and enter download mode (vol down + home + power). The most annoying part is that I cannot enter the recovery mode (vol up + home + power as far as I know) after a forced restart. I tried to let the battery die, and use the same combo before plugging in the phone, but didn't help.
Any clue without me going to a samsung repair shop (which are closed this weekend).
For info, was running stock M on my Canadian GS7 (Rogers).
Thanks in advance for any tip!

Use the Kies 3 software from samsung. As long as you have your S/N and Model # and can boot into download mode you can get reset and on the newest firmware within 20 minutes
Thanks for info!
So I tried that, but the phone still stays on the Samsung logo after the upload..
Explain in detail your procedure
Sure thing:
- enter download mode on the phone by using volume down + home + power. I have to keep them all at the same time to force the reboot and enter the mode (actually restarts twice most of the times before it works). Once the screen is there, accept using volume up.
- Installed latest Smart Switch, verified it's latest.
- connect phone (nothing detected here, even when outside of download mode)
- went to 'emergency software recovery and initialization'
- again, device doesn't get listed here (even when outside of download mode)
- select device initialization, entered model name and S/N
- started the intialization procedure, which downloaded successfully and updated the phone successfully (so it reads). Phone did show progress bar during the update.
- phone rebooted by itself, and back to square one, on a stuck GS7 logo.
Do you have samsung usb drivers installed?
I tried on PC earlier today, yup, drivers were installed. Also tried the Smart Switch 'reinstall drivers'. Before this issue, I was able to connect to the phone properly (same USB port etc)
Now on Mac and fresh install, did the Smart Switch 'reinstall drivers' (after two tests of re-initializaton). Didn't change a thing.
Hmm Def strange. I have had many s7 bricks..hard and soft. Aswell as bootloops but I have always been able to fall back on smartswitch. I suggest you to try kies 3 and if that doesnt work..find stock firmware on sammobile and flash using odin. ( risk of ruining you device involve when using odin. )
Thanks for the tips, will try that!

You need to pull the battery, put it back, and try one of the button combinations to get it into download mode on next boot. Your easiest route is either both volume buttons, and plug in USB without pressing power (which works on the Captivate), or hold just volume down and plug in USB (which is the right combination for an i9000). With one of these the phone should automatically power into the download mode. Get Odin one click ready to flash stock before you put the phone into download mode and hit start when it recognizes the device. If that won't work. try the other key combinations keeping in mind that they change when you flash an i9000 image, so you should try all Captivate combinations, and all i9000 combinations. Since the Captivate lacks a physical home button, anything that involves that will not work, which is the reason why you are stuck in recovery. The i9000 recovery is expecting you to press the home button to select (unlike the power on the stock Captivate).
also, ADB commands should work while the phone is in recovery mode
Same Problem
The Key combination Vol +, Vol - and the power button power cycles the phone whether or not the phone is in recovery mode or off. I am having the same problem, and there are no key combinations that worked for me. For now, I am permanently stuck in recovery mode. I could use some help here, as I have tried everything.
Oh, for the I9000 ROM installed on the captivate, adb commands do not work. While the phone is in recovery mode, you cannot connect to the PC.
I have found though, that by booting into the recovery menu, plugging in your USB cord and then taking out/putting in the battery will put into an unknown upload mode which does connect it to the computer, but not in a way that allows Odin or adb to run. There might be a way to flash/work with the phone, but I don't know how. Any help would be appreciate, as it is not in disk mode.

1. Take out battery and put it back in
2a Hold Vol Up+Vol Down (Do not press power)
or
2b Hold Vol Down (Do not press power)
3. Plug in USB cable connected to computer (Still do not press power)
If the phone behaves like a Captivate, after using 2a and 3, you should be in download mode. If the phone behaves like an i9000, after 2b and 3, you should be in Download mode.
Response & Update
Have tried both of these options. Either way you do it, the phone still goes back into recovery mode. There was talk about using a custom kernel that would allow you to use the power button as the select button. Is there any way to use adb in recovery mode, so you can install the modified kernel, or reboot to download mode? If not, I started a thread on this question that can be found here as well:

Did you ever fix this? I'm stuck in recovery mode now and none of the button combinations work

I am sure they can.
The 2e and 3e Download and Recovery modes were disabled by Samsung in later models of the SGS. It is not possible to get there using a combination of buttons etc.,
How to install the Download/Recovery Mode fix (3 Button Disabled SPL fix) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
There may be another method using an AnyWay JIG cable: which is a MicroB USB to Standard USB connector where I think one crosses pin 3 and 4 with a 301kOhm resister 1% tolerance, 1/4Watt. It would be best to search this forum for precise instructions.
Win for a dumb f%^k
well this isnt a good answer but i have a phone that went as discribed, no respose to three button, and unable to flash or get off the system reset screen on start up work on it for about 6 hour then left it when i came back i turned it on plug in the usb and CMD'ed adb reboot download and what did you know this time it worked? reset from that screen and it return to normal sooo.... um good luck and there is a way out just not shore what exactly it is
good for some
okey after fidling around i found my phone responded to adb ie download adb open a cmd line and typing adb reboot download. from there i just cycled the power hold down the power button a while and it rebooted to normal working order. though i still cant get 3 button even with flashing the fix so no hacking for me hope this helps
I'm using the Samsung Fascinate, i500 and i got stuck on the same screen too!!! i just double tapped the home button and rebooted the phone
I was able to get out of a 2e loop by running adb reboot download with odin open, then reflashed from there. Went through the same process twice since cognition 2.3b8 does not want to install on my phone. had no problem with b7 install.
Instructions were not that great. But Thanks -I figured it out and am back up.
Same problem here, cant make my phone go to download mode, ok or select key "power button" not working.
already tried the 2 methods before and they not working, (combination of keys)
Vibrant stuck in android system recovery 2e
I know this is not exact help but i just accidentally found myself into download mode after more key combo fiddling. I believe the last combo that got me in was either holding UP + POWER or just UP at the precise moment the screen goes black to reboot. This is after quite a few boot cycles so trial and error seemed to pull it off.
I'd test it again to be more sure but i don't want to risk being stuck again at this point. But I figured i'd speak up now, because i don't plan to have 2e there ever again.
Hello all,
Yesterday I installed Firefly 2.7 on my Canadian Samsung Captivate. Everything worked fine except that I could not receive calls (when I did I lost connection and it hung up right away without me having the time to do anything).
What I did tonight is I tried to reinstall the stock firmeware found somehwere in here. I followed the instructions which asked me to instal it using Odin3 v1.7 which I did. What happened though is that right after I clicked start button in Odin, the installation failed so I was left with an incomplete install.
I was stuck in download mode and could not do anything with my device and my phone would not reboot so I removed the battery. Now I can't boot my phone no matter what I do, I can't connect it to the computer either. I tried the button combination to go in download mode (remove the battery, wait, press vol+ and - and power, connect the phone to pc, put the battery back in, take my finger of the power button) and nothing. No matter what I do or try my phone is not doing anything. It is turned off and it stays that way.
Is my phone now a piece of garbage ? Any idea what I could do ?
Thx in advance ...
I was experiencing sudden restart of the device with no reason for last 2 days, today I flashed a ODIN flashable ROM to get rid of software problems, but later on today, It restarted, stuck at Samsung Logo, then I make it prompt download mode (vol down + home + power) and then selected cancel to restart, after this this device literally bricked, Just the blue LED is on, tried booting / booting to recovery / booting to download mode/ every possible combinations of the buttons. Nothing happens . Is there any way to save this or it has died ?
So my phone (S6, SM-G920F) crashed recently (completly out of the blue, I was opening a YouTube-Link I've sent myself via the PC) and I can only access the Download Mode, but not the Recovery mode.
What I've tried (In order):
-Flash any ROM (DTM, DBT, VIA [Different Carriers for Germany, I dont know if mines branded]), only the DBT (Universal) ROM even flashed, others just failed in Odin3, phone still doesn't work
-Install TWRP
-Use SmartSwitch (After some failed ROM-Installations, it showed the following Message on the screen of my phone:
Spoiler
"An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software."
, Smart Switch didn't even work. I've installed Samsung USB-Drivers first, then installed Smart Switch. If I try to use the Emergency Recover Function, Smart Switch just freezes up entirely
Does someone here know how I can fix my device?
Someone? D:
Download and run this;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3803841&d=1467715462
When you open the program, type the values given here;
Model: SM-G920F
Region: XEF
Auto: Selected
Manual: Unselected
Binary Nature: Selected
Check CRC32: Selected
Decrypt automatically: Selected
When you write and select options given above, press "Check Update" and then press "Download" to download factory firmware for your device.
Once the download has been finished, extract the zip file that you've downloaded via SamFirm.
After unzip it, download and run this Odin (even if you have another one);
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3804544&d=1467772303
When you open it, press BL and select file which starts with BL from downloaded (from Samfirm) and extacted zip folder.
Do the same thing for AP, CP, CSC.
When you set 4 files to Odin, connect your phone in download mode.
After that, press Start. When Odin done the installation, phone will restart. When it is restarted, disconnect the cable.
After 1-2 minutes, phone will boot up as completely refreshed device.
Even this method doesn't fix your device, then you need to replace your motherboard.
Thank you so so much, it worked like a charm,
Your tutorial was my last chance, and by accident i found this thread who gave me the magic solution (sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language)
Cheers !
Thanks for providing the above detailed instructions forumber2. Apologies for chipping in on the thread, but i had almost exactly the same issues at the iamflee but with one key difference - my wife had dropped the phone down the toilet first! She retrieved the phone immediately powered off, sim card out etc. and left it in a bag of rice for a week to dry out. It wouldn't turn back on at all. I tried all combinations of buttons and nothing, until I plugged it into my laptop and found I could get it into Download mode (but not recovery or to boot).
I tried lots of different ROM's/ TWRP/ bootloaders etc. but no joy, and then came across your answer above.
I followed it to the letter and Odin completed successfully, however the phone did not reboot at the end, it simply turned off, and will not turn back on. I can get it into Download mode but that is all.
Please can someone confirm what I think I already know, that the phone is goosed and I need to move on and stop spending hours trying to get it to work again! Or is there one last glimmer of hope with something else that I can try.
Thanks,
Matt
I am aware this does not contribute to the problem, but may give context.
Currently, I am stuck with an Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920F, which I am told 'randomly restarted' and since then was stuck on the Samsung boot screen. After the battery finally reached zero, it became stuck on the battery charging screen.
I have been able to force the phone to restart using either (Power + Vol Down + Home OR Power + Vol Down), but I am still greeted being stuck on the Samsung boot screen. Furthermore, I cannot boot into recovery mode (P + Vol Up + Home), but I can boot into download mode. However, Samsung Kies 2.6 is left on 'Connecting' in perpetuity without giving an error of any kind. I have installed the drivers provided and Windows detects the phone as a 'Gadget Serial'.
So, to clarify:
+ can boot into download mode
+Windows can detect the phone
- cannot boot into recovery mode
- stuck in boot loop
- Samsung Kies stuck on 'connecting'; hence emergency recovery is out the question
- Odin cannot detect the phone in download mode
I would conclude this SM-G920F motherboard has failed, or partially at least
same issue

I have the same issue as the OP. J700F (J7-2015) stuck in boot loop.
+Charges
+Turns on but stucks on boot logo
+Can enter Download mode
+does show up in ODIN
-Cannot access recovery mode
-Cannot turn the phone on obv.
-Has FRP lock but I have the phone passcode and email (no email password duh)
Now I downloaded the correct firmware for my region (KSA; do I need to use XEF?) and connect my phone in download mode, select the files. now when I press start, it fails in ODIN and shows "Custom binary(boot) not allowed due to FRP" (I may have used wrong wordings but it seems it cannot install firmware due to FRP lock)
Now what am I looking at ?
Hello,
I have a problem, today I install the combination file to my SM-J410F Samsung device but it not work I get %80 and failed and write something (like custom binary fused ) but after that I want to download another Stock firmware but I noticed that it cannot into download mode and when I Press Vol up + power it only show the Samsung logo and turn off, I try many times but it's something.....
I also use jig USB to force the device to download mode but it doesn't work.
Please help me it's very important to me. I Appropriate your bits of help.
Hi,
I have J415 in hand and I believe you can follow these steps:
1. turn off the phone
2. hold vol up+ vol down and connect usb
you should be in download mode now.

Recovery
Plz i want link to twrp (recovery) of samsung j4 core (SM-J410f/ds)
I also have a this issue. Power & vol+ & vol- plug in USB, Samsung logo then a blue screen, possibly with an exclamation mark, but only for a split second. The reboots and does the same continuously. I was on android pie uk and tried to flash twrp, failed 3 times. Tried to reflash 8.1 which ended in a fail and now it won't boot, won't boot recovery and won't go into download mode. Does this mean a flat battery? Should I leave it on charge with no sign it's charging? Hold the 3 buttons on reboot for 5/10 minutes?
As it stands now, it's not bricked but I can't do anything with it.
I solved it by holding all 3 buttons and plugging into USB, it did the whole rebooting thing as usual but I kept the buttons held for about 15/20 reboots and then it FINALLY went into download and I could flash stock rom. If important or not, I'd left it charging all night but showed no sign of life whilst it 'charged'
have same problem same it is kind of security to avoid writing Combination
