Permabircked Samsung Captivate ... - General Questions and Answers

Hello all,
Yesterday I installed Firefly 2.7 on my Canadian Samsung Captivate. Everything worked fine except that I could not receive calls (when I did I lost connection and it hung up right away without me having the time to do anything).
What I did tonight is I tried to reinstall the stock firmeware found somehwere in here. I followed the instructions which asked me to instal it using Odin3 v1.7 which I did. What happened though is that right after I clicked start button in Odin, the installation failed so I was left with an incomplete install.
I was stuck in download mode and could not do anything with my device and my phone would not reboot so I removed the battery. Now I can't boot my phone no matter what I do, I can't connect it to the computer either. I tried the button combination to go in download mode (remove the battery, wait, press vol+ and - and power, connect the phone to pc, put the battery back in, take my finger of the power button) and nothing. No matter what I do or try my phone is not doing anything. It is turned off and it stays that way.
Is my phone now a piece of garbage ? Any idea what I could do ?
Thx in advance ...

[Q] Samsung Vibrant BRICKED!!!... Please Help...!!!

So the phone is still pretty new, not much was installed on it at all except Root/SuperUser. There were a few other apps but they are just games. What happen is I did the RyanZa LagFix mod by Tayutama and at first I couldn't put the phone into recovery mode. Later I found out that I had a newer batch of the Samsung Vibrant where the volume up + volume down + power function has been disable by Tmobile so I had to try another method to get into recovery mode. What I did was I use abd/androidSDK to get my phone to reboot into recovery mode and followed all the instruction for the RyanZa Lag Fix . So the installation of packages works and the phone booted up. Then I went into MRC Script to proceed to the next step. Here is where I had the problem . The phone took a really really long time to create the 1gb file to extract file and then it ran a long list and kept going back to "creating a 1GB storage file" over and over again. So i just thought i'll leave it alone to do its thing. The process took so long and then it froze.... I had no choice but to restart it. When restarting, all i get is the vibrant screen, then I hear the sound to the Galaxy S screen but I don't see the Galaxy S screen . After that the screen is totally blank and dark, the 4 sensitive touch button still lights up though. After all the light went out, if I touch the screen the sensitive touch buttons still lights up again but nothing on the screen or sounds. I guessing that my phone got Bricked! I looked all over for help to recover my phone because I see some users did it using ODIN. However, I can't use ODIN because I cant put my phone into download or recovery mode since Tmobile took out the fuction of "holding volume up +volume down then press power" to get into recovery or download mode. The only way I could got in before was through adb/SDK but now that doesn't work because the phone isn't booting up. Is there anyways I can solve this issue or is my phone totally dead? =( please help if anyone know how or had similar issue. I've done this with my brother's Vibrant later and it works fine for him because his Vibrant is the older batch with the "volume up +volume down +power" function still enable. Much appreciation to all the help I can get from everyone. Thank you!!!
Methods I've tried to get the phone into recovery/download mode:
1. take battery out, plug usb in, put battery back in hold up (also tried down) and then press power.
2. I've tried volume up + volume down + power wait for vibrant logo to flash 1 time (also tried 2 flash and 3 flash).
3. I've tried the same methods above and holding it for a long time as well.
I did all the above methods when the phone is off so the only thing that it did for me was flashing the vibrant screen once, then the battery show up with a spinning waiting sign... It didn't put my phone into any type of special mode at all. I hope some of this information would help most of you get an idea where my phone situation is at. =(
have the same problem
someone please help! very much appreciated
Similar issues... I can only enter the "Vibrant Samsung" screen...
Press Volume up + Volume down + power, the logo just blinks, no recovery mode.
I also tired what others said, like plug the usb, open Kies, still can not enter recovery mode.
This happen to me.... take of ur battery n put it back on n make sure ur usb is connected to ur computer n have ur cmd on to.... ( u must have Samsung usb drive install to have it work.... or if u root ur phone using cmd or what so ever called...)
As soon as ur phone boot up ur computer should make a sound that its connect to ur phone ....than type
cd/
cd /AndroidSDK/tools
same situation!!
zzzzomg i'm stuck in the same exact situation!! please help!!
i was following a step by step instructional video for fixing lag on youtube and i went thru the steps just fine. but then decided to re-do the process because i thought I missed a step....so when i went to MCR to run the lag fix and waited for the 1g thing to be made, my screen locked out (after 30 seconds) then it wouldn't load up the screen. So I took out the battery and rebooted my phone, and it gets stuck at the vibrant S screen. AHHHHH Please help!!
Insert battery, Plug in usb, vol up + power. Took me straight to download mode
I really need help with this two. My phone goes into the S logo than goes black and the 4 lights come up on the bottom. Please Help someone
I had the same problem, solved it by booting into samsung recovery and wiping user data, new it was voodoo and I couldn't get into the phone to disable lagfix, wiped user data and voodoo noticed upon reboot with Linda narrating the redo of the lagfix. Btw I did it to myself by battery pull, the first start takes an amazingly long amount of time.

If you can not trigger the download mode and have the [ Phone < ! > Computer ] picture on your screen, the phone is bricked!
I tried the resistor trick, that did not trigger the download mode.

PMIC_IRQ3 = 0X1

PMIC_STATUS1= 0Xc0

I did this update to froyo before this and nothing happen. This time before the update finished, the power supply of my desktop suddenly turn off. everything goes to zero. i tried to restart my phone, but the screen still "downloading". I have to force it to off by pull out the battery.
when i try to turn on my phone, it failed. no screen at all. i pressed everything but still cannot on.

does vol down + power + home(just the three) work
if yes
flash a stock rom from samfirmware.com(if you remember which one you had you can flash that back)
Even if the key combo i gave doesnt work
Connect your g3 to charger and let it charge for a while
If you get some icon (battery ) there can be some hope for recovering your device
You told it displays no screen so probably its a brick
Best would be to go to a samsung service center(if you have warranty) and make up a story(phone switched off on call and then this happened etc. etc.)

Galaxy S 4G Issue

I hope i'm in the right board for this, if not i'm sorry, but i've run into a major issue recently.
While working on installing MIUI on my Galaxy S 4G from Tmobile I hit a point where it turned offand absolutely nothing is happening. I don't remember when exactly this happened but I think it was after something with odin.
It's not detected by Kies or anything, it's just off and nothing can get it to turn back on. I left it on the charger and went to sleep last night, this morning it still isn't doing anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
In the state that it's in, I believe the phone will still boot into Download Mode, even though nothing appears on the screen. Odin will still recognize the device if it is booted into download mode.
Just open the back cover and remove the battery. It is also recommended you remove the SD card and SIM card. Put the battery back in, and connect the usb cable while holding the power up button, and plug it into your computer. Open up Odin and it should recognize the device still. If it doesn't, try these steps again until it does.
Since you were trying to flash MIUI, we should be safe to assume you're running Gingerbread on your SGS4G, so you can download a stock, Odin flashable ROM from here. Flash that using the PDA in Odin, let it reboot, and you should be fine again.
If you have any further questions that need answering, refer to the SGS4G community.

Thanks for the help, currently i'm attempting to get Odin to recognize it with no success. I've gone through the process about 3 times and will continue till I hopefully get some results. If it makes any difference I don't hear the sound of windows detecting a new USB device anymore like i use to when I would put it into download mode.
As far as I remember, Windows doesn't make a sound when booting into Download Mode. I just realized I made an error in my previous post. You need to be holding the volume up button when you plug it into the computer. In some cases you will need to hold the power button at the same time. Try giving it the volume up + power on button when you plug into your PC. Make sure you're holding the button combo long enough for the SGS4G to power on and into Download.

How to do a factory reset after a failed OTA

Hey hey,
I received and tried to install an OTA for my GS7 this morning, but unfortunately it failed (stuck for several hours at 76%).
Now when I restart, the phone stays on the GS7 logo, that's about it. I cannot switch it off (not even when keeping the power button down for >1min), but can force restart (vol down + power) and enter download mode (vol down + home + power). The most annoying part is that I cannot enter the recovery mode (vol up + home + power as far as I know) after a forced restart. I tried to let the battery die, and use the same combo before plugging in the phone, but didn't help.
Any clue without me going to a samsung repair shop (which are closed this weekend).
For info, was running stock M on my Canadian GS7 (Rogers).
Thanks in advance for any tip!

Use the Kies 3 software from samsung. As long as you have your S/N and Model # and can boot into download mode you can get reset and on the newest firmware within 20 minutes
Thanks for info!
So I tried that, but the phone still stays on the Samsung logo after the upload..
Explain in detail your procedure
Sure thing:
- enter download mode on the phone by using volume down + home + power. I have to keep them all at the same time to force the reboot and enter the mode (actually restarts twice most of the times before it works). Once the screen is there, accept using volume up.
- Installed latest Smart Switch, verified it's latest.
- connect phone (nothing detected here, even when outside of download mode)
- went to 'emergency software recovery and initialization'
- again, device doesn't get listed here (even when outside of download mode)
- select device initialization, entered model name and S/N
- started the intialization procedure, which downloaded successfully and updated the phone successfully (so it reads). Phone did show progress bar during the update.
- phone rebooted by itself, and back to square one, on a stuck GS7 logo.
Do you have samsung usb drivers installed?
I tried on PC earlier today, yup, drivers were installed. Also tried the Smart Switch 'reinstall drivers'. Before this issue, I was able to connect to the phone properly (same USB port etc)
Now on Mac and fresh install, did the Smart Switch 'reinstall drivers' (after two tests of re-initializaton). Didn't change a thing.
Hmm Def strange. I have had many s7 bricks..hard and soft. Aswell as bootloops but I have always been able to fall back on smartswitch. I suggest you to try kies 3 and if that doesnt work..find stock firmware on sammobile and flash using odin. ( risk of ruining you device involve when using odin. )
Thanks for the tips, will try that!

Weird Bootloop (not actually a bootloop)

Phone: J4+ (SM-J415F)
I wanted flash the stock ROM via Odin on pc and something went wrong (i don't know what) and now the phone shows "An error has occured while updating the device software. Use the emergency function in the Smart Switch PC software." I tried to go in the download mode but the phone "restarts" every 2 seconds when i connect it to the pc or the charger. The recovery didn't work either.
Note: The phone doesn't start even if it is not connected to the PC or to a charger.
I'm also stuck in this weird .non. bootloop
Hey, I had this problem before. The Battery maybe depleted during flashing. You have to find a way to charge it.
Try to boot into Odin warning screen or the IMEI screen, it's where the device won't reboot while your connected to a charger, then give it some time to charge until you have enough time to flash your stock ROM.
Its what I did xd, just watch out for overheating. Using a GN variant.
I solved it by holding all 3 buttons and plugging into USB, it did the whole rebooting thing as usual but I kept the buttons held for about 15/20 reboots and then it FINALLY went into download and I could flash stock rom. If important or not, I'd left it charging all night but showed no sign of life whilst it 'charged'
Something to Try!
The issue seems to be with the HOME CSC is corrupted on the latest version - Probably something by Samsung to outdo the Combo files being produced.
PLUG-IN THE PHONE to PC (NOT WALL), Press and hold POWER + VOL UP + VOL DOWN to BOOT the phone to the ODIN message screen (with the warning), not the Download Screen itself > in this Screen release all the buttons at the same time, if you do this right you should still be on that same screen. Then simply press the POWER once. This should show a Barcode IMEI Serial, etc (Then leave for 5-15 mins on USB Charge then quickly swap with a wall charger).
Then leave it to charge for normally phone charging time. Later PUT INTO ODIN MODE and retry.
I have done this 3 times on this device to make sure this is the correct way.
You might get away booting it to ODIN and trying to swap the power but unsure about that.
After this Go to GOOGLE Search on your laptop/pc > search for SAMFIRM > Put in the model and Download the Combination for J415FXXU5ASK1 and then in SAMFIRM software click Download ROM > Tick the Binary Nature box and then Flash the Combination file in the AP button of ODIN then the on that ROM go to Orange Calculator (IME) type in *#0808# on the next screen select the option with ADB and RM & DMT (normally the bottom) then select PDA on the next and then SAVE and RESET then flash the SAMSUNG ROM with the CSC, not the HOME!<< Just a NOTE! Not Responsible for bricked devices if you do this wrong! Advice only! :good:
