Just tried to root it, but it failed, no SuperSU or anything, like i never did it!
Did your phone rebooted to download mode in the process? Or was stuck in cmd line window?
It did everything fine, went into download, did its thing, told me to wait for ##, did, told me to unplug, then replug, did it, and said it finished.
Thats weird are you sure the image is actually called "rootedsystem.img" , did you unpacked it?
i did as it said, put it in my phones root storage, didnt unpack the image.
was i supposed to unpack it? i feel silly now...
Im not sure, but it's supposed to be named exactly " rootedsystem.img " otherwise it wont work, it might be packed i didnt download to check it.
Its backed as rootedsystem.img.gz, so i unpacked it and i now have rootedsystem.img.
Yeah so run the tool now.
Ok, trying again with the file in place, i wonder why they didnt have a check in the program if the file didnt exist in the device storage, that would be a nice thing to include.
Now im rooted, updated SU binary, rebooting, and i have root!
What am i supposed to do to check if my bootloader is unlocked?
I dont know about that, so someone else will tell u hopefully.
Maybe the way fyter posted at the other thread: *I was able to access to the Bootloader Unlock Check Test calling it directly using Secure Settings app.*
Try that app i quess.

I took a chance on the $250 deal on ebay for the att unlocked. It came running 5.0.1, but since I am with TMO, I need help updating.
Can I root 5.0.1 and update to 5.1.1?

I'm in the same boat. I even tried using my work AT&T SIM and no go. Hoping this works out. Subscribed.
I just upgraded to a Flex 2 last week and bought a $10 Go Phone card, then called AT&T daily until the pushed the 11z update before putting in my T-Mobile sim. Took 3 days and after debloatng & root, I'm a happy camper

well sr, I found the way to do it.
What ar backuped.
Ill give us 2 scrypts.
First one backups everithing exept SYSTEM, USERDATA, CACHE.
second one backups as scrypt 1 exept raw_rescourcesbak
there are only one problem, you must be rooted to do this:
the way to root stock image:
http://highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-lg-g-flex-2-g2-g3-on-lollipop/
and stock images (to come back if you decide to update with ota):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/p-restore-recovery-to-stock-tool-h950-t3171550
then, what you have to do is this:
install adb (I use minimal adb and fastboot and works great)
enable developer options in your phone.
then run minimal adb, you have to put the txt attached in this comment in the same folder to be easyer.
in command prompt you have to put:
to full backup:
adb shell < flex2_1.txt
to low size backup
adb shell < flex2_2.txt
you will have a lot of img files in the internal storage of your phone, thats the backup...
If you can do I will apreciate!
many thanls

All,
I already know there is a 'guide' on how to do this, however, that is a manual process that one must perform every time we do a system update, or whatever.
I created a flashable you can flash in recovery that will write the line is it does not exist. I have tested this a few time on my 5x, and it works flawlessly, simple, and easy.
This is only for stock 5x unmodified build.prop file. This MAY work on the 6p but not making any promises on that one.
Also this ONLY modifies the build.prop file only if need be
Best Regards
This is great and all, but do you know if you can add the last extra line in? It's for us Sprint users, the whole put global tether thing.

Yes, with the space. I don't know if the other half is needed (adb shell settings put) but maybe someone could test it for you? Not me because I already have tethering set up on my phone and will be away from my computer for the rest of this month

I was just reading the following guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/guide-how-to-unlock-tethering-nexus-5x-t3231301
On page 5 i believe people are stating that this is unnecessary to get tether to work.
I already asked in that thread what that does, because in my testing it does not do anything for wifi tether. I'm still on VZW with grandfathered unlimited plan. I can't say about sprint users. Maybe one will chime in that successfully got it to work and if that line is really needed.

I don't know how to implement that command into a flashable zip file atm. I will have to ask around, most likely tomorrow i will post it in the general section.
I am wondering if that writes to some file, and if so what. I am thinking possibly an xml file.
Maybe one of the XML file within: system\customize ? idk, but it sounds like it would write something somewhere.
If i could examine a sprint rom.zip I might be able to locate it if it has it enabled

That's the thing, there are no specific Sprint ROMs. All ROMs are the same, but when it comes to service that's where things get mucky with this. So maybe it is something within a data provision XML or something. Because without that line, yes, tethering is enabled, but it doesn't connect. After that line is implemented, then everything works as normal.

Has anyone tried it on T-Mobile?
Where you able to get the zip to work on Sprint? Thanks so much for creating this!
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how to use this on my nexus 5x. I'm looking over the instructions on the nexus 5x beginner's tutorial, and was wondering how you actually run this script. I've performed the` manual tethering = true` thing before, but i haven't figured out how to use this one. I've restored everything to factory state and the only thing different from OEM is that the Bootloader is unlocked. I've tried to `adb sideload` the zipfile, but i get an error stating "verification failed, installation aborted" error. Thanks a lot for your help guys

If you want to use it, you must enable OEM unlock in developer options, and unlock bootloader in fastboot mode, and flash TWRP.
What actually does this mod?

Hey CNBLACK,
I believe I did what you've detailed. If it makes sense- this is what i did from completely stock.
1) Unlock USB debugging, and eventually unlock the bootloader
2) Reboot into fastboot mode,
3) fastboot boot TWRP-3.1.~ (whatever the latest build is)
4) adb sideload/install Enable_tether.zip
5) reboot.
The reboot stays on the 4 dot animation screen for 5+ minutes. Should i be waiting longer, or did I make a mistake during the TWRP flashing section? Thanks again for your help!
Update #2: Alright, in order for everything to work, i had to root my phone... So yes, it works for me now
Update: it eventually booted up after doing aforementioned steps. However hotspot will still not work- it still checks for subscription status. I'm running the Android 8.0.0 Security patch level: Sept 5, 2017 Build number: OPR4.170623.006.

This MOD's goal is to enable your nexus 5x to be used as a wifi hotspot without having to pay for the "upgrade" with your wireless provider. Not sure if it's just me, but even with the line
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

in my build.prop, my phone still checks for subscription status, and therefore will not allow me to start a hotspot.
I had been reading up on the Dirty Cow exploit/root method, and it seemed to be compatible with all Android devices, so I took a little chance with my v10, and it worked perfectly! I was on the stock unrooted 20l update, and followed all the steps here: https://github.com/jcadduono/android_external_dirtycow#running
Notes:
-I put our TWRP image and SuperSu zip on the root of my sdcard
-For the very last command, replace 'twrp.img' with the name of your TWRP image file(or change the name of your TWRP fiile to twrp.img ).
-Like it says in the instructions, the phone did look like maybe it bricked at one point, with a strange backlighting on the Tmobile boot screen. It worked out tho!
-My boot loader was unlocked prior to doing these steps

Great job. You know technically these same instructions should work for ANY of the v10 variants ..verizon...at&t etc....including the ones that up till now didn't have root at all.

No, it means it's unlockable, but you have to actively unlock it. There should be a thread here somewhere if you haven't done that yet, but it's just boot into bootloader and then 'fastboot oem unlock'
Edit: in case you need it there are great instructions in the v20 thread that I linked in the first post.

The cow method means copy on write...
This means as anything is written it is copied (or flashed or burned; whatever you want to call your desired definition)
You could in theory copy dummy files to a temp location and actually write to a permanent location...
Or am I thinking wrong about it?
If this is a viable option to ALL phones I don't think Google or manufactures could (or would for that matter) actually patch this kind of exploit as it would be super time consuming.
just confirming that Root 20l w/Dirty Cow does work.
Finally got my replacement V10 back, and all is a go again. Stock rooted,
Not sure the novice should try this, as its pretty nerve racking. If you follow the directions correctly it does work great.
Surprised they have closed this backdoor yet,
thanks for being the first to try this on a V10.

I think it's considered a very serious vulnerability that must and will be patched soon. They can't have root access so easily obtained on any device.

You're welcome, and thanks for confirming. That one step where the screen goes weirdly backlit with the Tmo splash screen is a bit nerve-wracking, and so is writing recovery this way, but I was comforted by the fact that you can just tell it to to write to the recovery partition rather than having to know the more technical name/location(not sure if this was possible a few years back?)
Anyway, if I did brick I was gonna go straight to the store and buy a ZTE Zmax Pro for $180 haha.
Which reminds me, does anyone know if there is a way to simply push su into /system once you have the root shell, instead of writing recovery to flash SuperSu? Just curious. I sorta wanted to do that but then I just went with TWRP.

No. The shell has limited access...it has just enough permissions to write recovery and access some things on boot...you need to get it a recovery where you can then flash a zip to install superuser.
Thanks so much for this info, I was actually about to post a new thread to see if root for 20L had been achieved.
But a few questions:
Is there a KDZ/TOT available for 20L? Or is it delivered in update.zip format via OTA?
Is there a way to root 20L without touching system partition? Like, you know, systemless root? I was thinking that maybe it might be possible to flash Magisk from TWRP then install systemless phh Superuser or (less preferable for me) SuperSU. This way I can still take the official Nougat OTA when it hits, without losing root. But the catch is, TWRP needs to be accessible first.
Well, time to sleep for now, it's been a long 3 days, subsisting on Monster and cigs. I'll tackle this when I eventually wake up.
Like the last guy, I've got a million questions on this. I need to find the changelog on 20L to begin with, because if they didn't fix the VoLTE silence on calling, then it's useless to me. I wonder where the OP was with his existing V10.. because I'm currently on 20J rooted with twrp. Seems with the instructions posted, I would have to use LG bridge to go back to 100% stock, then upgrade to 20L then hope this works. Again, the radios are probably modified so there's probably some kind of anti-rollback involved as well.
Great post though! Great work discovering this! Definitely in the right direction!

The Volte silence bug is fixed in 20l, as many have reported. I had updated officially to 20l and was stock unrooted prior to this. But for people who are rooted on 20j or earlier, I believe Eliminator has released a pre-rooted update, so maybe you'd wanna do that instead.

Hi, I need the dump to try to fix my phone. I need an h950, but If you have another version, we can try, and we can make a database to fix our dead phones...
Is an H950, It can be done from adb or from a terminal, root is needed, it only copies first 512mb not all data, If I cannot fix with that, a full one maybe its needed, but I dont think so. If it was a full bakup for privacy, make a wipe or factory reset first
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/H950dump.img bs=8192 count=65535
thanks so much
If you have 11x and up ie Android 5.1.1 previously you wouldn't want dump of any other variant.. It wouldnt help anyway as a qfuse is blown..
Plus i can't help as my internet wouldnt in death of universe upload the dump.
I hope you can fix yours soon

U may try extracting dumps from att 11z tot somewhere around this thread..
I have flashed it when bricked but in the latest scene..my phone overheated and shutdown.. And would not bootup..but download kode was availabe so i restored using the tot..
Everything was fine until i noticed DRM was not working properly.. So i checked my device ids and baaam imei was zeroed out.. Have no efs backups but cellular is working.. Only Drm isnt working..
Is there a solution using nvtools or qpst? Cuz bootloader locked ..

null needs much more effort, but with qpst.
Can you make me a dump? I will search If I have a backup of my efs, I dont think so, but If I have a working phone, I can figure how to do it, I fix it two times in that condition with no problem at all

no sr, thats system partition only, couriously, system partition, and data arent necesary to boot in download mode.
What I really need is the first mb, I think with 128, or maybe a little more is enough, from 0 to laf partition so I can get download mode, or, at least, try to make it works and reflash
Hey, I've got an H950, if you could walk me through what needs to be done, I'd be glad to help.

thanks man.
I need that:
You need to be in a rooted phone, and needs a terminal emulator like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=es
anyone can do it
after that open terminal and write
su (to grant super user acces)
then
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/H950dump.img bs=8192 count=65535
when it finished, I need the h950dump.img that you created, It will be in /sdcard/h950dump.img
you can zip it, or upload as is anywere so I can try a fix for my dead phone.

Hey @pelelademadera sorry for the long time to respond, recent I see the post so I extract this for you from my device H950 11z and uploaded
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nyisfclf8ddzj1e/H950dump.zip?dl=0
I hope this helps and revive your device. Please tell me if you need everything else.
Btw, if this solve the problem, maybe you can test if the recent post of bootloader unlocked by aboot patched works. I am scare prove this because I don't have experience to risk to repair for my self if this don't work, it's my only phone right now and I don't brick then. I live in Venezuela and it's impossible send this for a LG support to repair.

What happens men? You prove sending aboot patched? Or the dump posted not solve the situation with your phone? How you brick the phone?

Hi guys,
Could anyone upload the dump again because the link is down??
Thanks
So I tried to update the supersu binary using the in app option. It popped up with a box that didn't go away after a half hour. I said screw it and carried on about my weekend.
Flaah forward to yesterday. Tried to fire up my tether app which requires root permission. Response - "you need toot permission to use this app". Wtf? Rebooted again. Same thing. Opened supersu. "no root permissions detected". Awwww damn I borked root.
Reflashed this kernel + root zip that I never deleted off my phone and bam it all works.
Now the question is... How do I update the supersu binary? Thanks. Running 7.0.0

Sad that this phone is so dead. I guess if I find a way to update supersu I'll post about it

I figured that because it refused to update the binary and in the process broke root. I'm wondering if there's a way to manually update it via a flashable or if I'm stuck with a hash tag in my notifications for a while.
This is a shot in the dark but he seems like a really knowledgeable person thats still active here but idk how to tag people to cause them to get a notification. ... @koop1955 do you have any ideas?

That worked, I received the notification. (Like the Bat signal....just kidding!)
Download the latest CF-Auto-Root from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/785/C...Auto-Root-zerofltespr-zerofltespr-smg920p.zip (Now updated for Nougat.)
Inside the zip is an MD5 file that you can flash via Odin.

Edit: just realized my giant screw up. Yes I do have a note 5 but for some reason I thought @koop1955 was a part of the note 5 group of people too. Tapatalk confused the crap out of me.
Do those instructions still apply for the note 5 or do I need go ask you to remove some of that post so we aren't the cause for other people flashing the wrong stuff?
Bump because I'm not sure I ever figured this out...
