Tried to update supersu binary and lost root permissions - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

So I tried to update the supersu binary using the in app option. It popped up with a box that didn't go away after a half hour. I said screw it and carried on about my weekend.
Flaah forward to yesterday. Tried to fire up my tether app which requires root permission. Response - "you need toot permission to use this app". Wtf? Rebooted again. Same thing. Opened supersu. "no root permissions detected". Awwww damn I borked root.
Reflashed this kernel + root zip that I never deleted off my phone and bam it all works.
Now the question is... How do I update the supersu binary? Thanks. Running 7.0.0

I figured that because it refused to update the binary and in the process broke root. I'm wondering if there's a way to manually update it via a flashable or if I'm stuck with a hash tag in my notifications for a while.
This is a shot in the dark but he seems like a really knowledgeable person thats still active here but idk how to tag people to cause them to get a notification. ... @koop1955 do you have any ideas?

That worked, I received the notification. (Like the Bat signal....just kidding!)
Download the latest CF-Auto-Root from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/785/C...Auto-Root-zerofltespr-zerofltespr-smg920p.zip (Now updated for Nougat.)
Inside the zip is an MD5 file that you can flash via Odin.

Just updated the thread here with the link. I didn't want to start a whole new thread or have it get lost in another thread.
I just bought my phone from Swappa. It's currently rooted,TWRP and running D80120a.
I received OTA update notification last night.
Will I loose root if I allow it to install?
If so, how can I ignore it and disable the notification?

If you're rooted with TWRP, the OTA won't install, at least it didn't for me. I clicked on the OTA and it rebooted into TWRP, but nothing installed. Rebooted the system, the OTA was gone, and I was still on 20a. You will lose root if you install the 20e, but you can re-root with TowelRoot and I believe you can get TWRP back with AutoRec (I used TowelRoot, but not AutoRec). From my understanding, if you use AutoRec, you will lose Knock Code.
So I tried to update and it went through the process. Even seen the little green android saying installing update . phone rebooted still had root access and about phone is showing the "a" version. Checked for update again and it said phone up to date. This doesn't seem right

I'm guessing you don't have a custom recovery? I had TWRP and the green android was on for a split second before TWRP started and it didn't update. I think if you're rooted, you have to update via the support tool or the pc suite. To get root back, use towelroot. Backup your data, but you should be able to keep everything on your phone if you don't wipe/reset.
Cool thanks!

[Q] How do i un root my s6 from the pingpongroot?

So i rooted my s6 thinking that it would be like a jailbreak and i was wrong.. can someone give me a link to a video or some info on how to unroot it. Thanks!

Might be a place to start.
Normally this is something you look at before rooting you device so you know how to if you run into problems
Go into super su app and choose full unroot
I second what krelvinaz said, head over to that thread and start back to stock and start fresh

I was going to use the SuperSu to do the Full unroot. If I did that, then installed the current Verizon OTA, could I then re-root using pingpong? Or does this OTA disable the ability to root again? I've read so many posts and articles from various sources, some say yes, some say no. The more I dig the more conflicting info I find.
The only reason I rooted in the first place was to swap out the mixer_paths.xml file. I'm curious if the OTA will wipe that moded file out. But that's probably another discussion.
Thanks
I rooted first and a day later took ota. After ota pingpong root just needed to "download data" or whatever then root worked fine.

I think what you are talking about is you were rooted and tried to take the Ota and it wouldn't install correct? If that's the case, yeah you have to unroot or Odin the new version then reboot.

That did the trick! Thanks so much. It worked just like it should have. Afterwards I did have to rerun pingpong, but that took about 2 seconds and I'm back to normal now with the update. Thanks a million!
I did that, as I usually do when I sell my phones.... It bricked it and I could reinstall stock.
Unrooting options
To summarize the unrooting options:
1. Unroot with SuperSu - By some reports this method does not work
2. Odin stock rom - Wipes the device and data, ?trips knox?
3. Use the Verizon Update Utility - Upgrades the devices to latest OTA
I am on 5.02 Stock (AOC3), rooted, Knox not tripped.
I am really not interested in wiping my device or updating to the latest OTA.
What I want to do is *temporarily* unroot to see if I can get Android Pay working again.
Has anyone had any luck with method 1 above? If android pay and your credit cards are activated/verified while unrooted, can you then re-root and still have Android Pay work?
I really miss using Android Pay... but not enough to lose root!!!
If you go into the superuser app and click the enable superuser to turn it off you can activate a card with android pay. You won't lose root this way.
I did that with my bank card and once my card was listed in Android pay I reenabled superuser and everything works fine.
I'm also using root cloaker but I don't know if it's needed.

@dobosininja
Is your android pay still working? I was able to use Android pay for only a short period ~1 day. Now I get the message "This card cannot be used right now" It doesn't matter what card I use or whether SuperSU is enabled. Maybe it is detecting SuperSU itself.
What app / procedure did you use for cloaking? Did it trip your knox?
Thanks!

If I'm correct, the Token needs to refresh from time to time. It may be that that process is detecting the root.

Root ATT S4 On 5.0.1

Hey guys! im Cole. Im new around here .
Anyways I managed to fix my phone from a soft brick using the 5.0 OTA Update and decided to root the phone.
Also This Didn't trip Knox for me. Im on 5.0.1
NOTE: I am not responsible if you happen to brick/Break your ATT GALAXY S4 (I337)I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS WORKS ON THE I337M
Anyways on with the rooting tutorial:
Ok, On your S4 I recommend that you have the OTA Package which you can get from Here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934552137
And You should have at least 50% battery life left.
Ok. Go and download Kingroot V4.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
Install it. It should say that root access is unavailable. Click on Try to root.
It takes around 3 to 5 minutes to get root access. once done you should see at the top Root Successful or something like that.
If it fails I suggest that you either try again or just give up on rooting your phone.
But since ATT Has a LOCKED Bootloader we cant install a recovery i think. Anyways I hope you guys found this tutorial working and have fun rooting.
Oh yeah I forgot: Thank You Kingxteam for providing us with kingroot

Cool story.
But, this is so simple. Instead of having to flash this and that with flashfire and safestrap, you can just go straight from lollipop, use a one click root tool, and then use another one click app to switch to SuperSU and remove the other. It's simplicity, compared to keep root method, is great. Now, if we could just get someone to figure out how to do it with one step, we'll be golden. Many are thinking there is still no way to root straight from lollipop. This works. So, if these cats can do it, then another dev can figure out how to get SuperSU injected instead of Kingroot. If that can happen, then safestrap can also be updated to work with lollipop instead of having to swap kk kernel. This is progress.
edit: When I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I tried several times to update to 0C4 after using this method. It failed every time. Then, I flashed the rooted 0C3 with flashfire and the update worked flawlessly. I wouldn't suggest this kingroot anymore to anyone. Cheers.

Just used KingRoot to root my I337 with OC4. Took a few minutes and then took off with a percentage rapidly climbing to 100%. Unfortunately for those of us who cannot read Chinese you have to feel your way through the user interface.
Here are some notes to help (I should have grabbed screen shots and will try to do so):
Make sure your PC has the I337 drivers and they work.
Enable developer mode on the I337.
Download and install the desktop version of KingRoot.
Connect the I337 to the PC with USB. Let Windows do its handshake stuff.
Launch KingRoot, it will find the phone and give you a screen (all in Chinese) showing how to turn on USB Debug mode. For English that is in Settings | More | Developer Options. Check the USB debugging box.
Phone will ask to verify the computer RSA key, accept it.
Phone also asked twice to allow Google to check for security threats. I declined both.
KingRoot will see that it can talk with the phone and do its thing.
A few minutes later I had KingRoot and root access on my 5.0.1 OC4 phone as verified with Root Checker Basic. It has survived a power cycle with battery removal.
Added screen shots from phone. Need to get some from KingRoot.
When KingRoot has everything ready you will see some Chinese text followed by Root on a blue (IIRC) button. Click that to launch the rooting.

You can block SDM.apk with this debloater if you don't want to be nagged anymore. Seeing that the update was already downloaded you will have to enter recovery mode and clear cache to get rid of the install nag. After you do that and disable SDM.apk you will no longer get the notification. I went ahead and installed it anyways because I'm not too concerned with root. I'd rather have a secure device.

Your welcome. I feel the same here. My S6 lost root the Note 4 never had it except the dev ed I had for a short time so I got used to no root as well. With the debloater it's no big deal for me anymore and being able to theme really settled the issue for me. I can do basically everything I want and still have a secure phone without worrying when root will get killed. I do miss building ROMs a little but I can deal without it.

I don't think we will ever see that fixed the right way. I'm 99% convinced it's a hardware issue.
My update is running now. Agree the update is pretty big. If this fixes battery drain, no need for root for me.... Between package disabler pro + runtime permissions, not much is needed anymore for root. The only thing is some are saying if you use package disabler pro, there can be more battery issues than not because the OS tries to reference those disabled packages. I'm not sure how that would be any different though if you froze them with titanium backup or something

The last paragraph says it all. If someone is working on an exploit to unlock the bootloader in it's current state, and you take the update, * After updating , you will not be able to downgrade to the old software because of updates to the security policy. * Then you would need to wait for the next exploit to come out to get past the new security updates.
Whatever, the phone is great stock with package disabler. Only thing I might want root for is unlimited tethering.
