[Completed] is there a way to buy a mid range phone & convert to STOCK android - XDA Assist

Hi
Good day folks
I've been an iPhone user for long. Presently I'm using an iPhone 6. I've been wanting to test an android. My search lead me to various forums where I was advised that stock android is the safest, least troublesome. With a budget of $250 - $ 300 (max Max) I was told Nexus 5x is an option. Ultimately adding shipping etc, 5x, 6 etc were above budget !
So, I'm here with the question, "...is there a way to buy a reasonable phone within $250-$275 budget (+$25 shipping) & convert to stock Android ? Which phone and how ? how easy / cumbersome ?
TIA for tips and experiences
PS : I'm new here, so IF this is the wrong forum, please direct me.
Regards
Subu

[Completed] Best GSM phone for low price

I have decided that I am going to make a move to use Straight Talk. Although supposedly there is a Nexus 6 (with a broken screen) available, I started looking at some of the Chinese offering. I would like to find a gsm phone (with AT&T radio and LTE if possible) that offers best features and not cost me the price of a Samsung 6 or Iphone 6. I would like to find something the is 6" and also able to use Android 5. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

[Completed] Best budget-friendly androids for customization?

Looking for a new android for my boyfriend to replace his current awful phone, and finances are a bit tight right now. We're hoping to find a device under $170, it needs to have SD support to hold all his music and photos, GSM unlocked for Cricket Wireless, and we'd like to find one that has flexibility on custom ROMs. He really likes the one I have, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2, which has CM and PAC, and around the $200 range, but we're wondering if the people of XDA have other devices to recommend. Like me, he also prefers large-ish screens... no tiny phones. It'd also be great to have one that is eligible for Lollipop. Perhaps I am asking too much.

[Completed] New phone advice - android

Hi. Need a new driver - looking for advice. I'm in the states with a t-mobile sim. Been using a Z3 compact which is about to die. Need something of comparable size - could be a bit bigger, but not into phablets. Don't like Samsung, Sony, LG and other mainstream, although I did have good experience with a nexus.
Elephone? Oppo? Oneplus? What else is out there that I can just buy and stick my sim card in?
Thx
