I am brand-new to android OS and whatever phone you recommend will be my first android device. Although, I will say I would like to experience pure android. Phone requirements it needs have good ROM and root support budget 200 bucks. Thank you!

Hello,
I apologize if this was asked before but I wasn't sure what terms to search for.
I'm looking to experiment with making a platform using an android kernel/drivers. To do so, I'm looking to buy a phone that can be very customized, as I'll be running with a very low-level version of android, and I need it to have decent specs as well.
Could anyone advise some options for this?
To be clearer, the same way the Nintendo Switch is an android-based console, I want to make something of the sorts myself, and I need a testing device.

Yeah I saw the thread but thought it was more towards regular phone purchasing and my post would be drowned since it's a little different as it relates to a different kind of usage.
