I will love to know who else is keeping there galaxy s7 edge as stock with no root.
I have owned the galaxy s2, s3, s4, s5 and s6 edge all of them i rooted and put custom roms on them obsessively lol but with my new device the galaxy s7 edge I have kept it stock with no root. The reason being is because the thing is an absolute beast in regards to battery life, performance, cosmetics and quality screen. This is the first time ever i have kept my phone stock and with no root and i don't plan to root it in the future.
S7 edge is best phone I've been used. I love this. Never flash rom but maybe root after guarentee. I have 9-10 hours screen time <3
Niceee! Keep it that way, man!

Haha! Tempting me with Xposed!
Lol so much temptation but I must stay strong and remain stock. I did update my firmware through Sammobile to the latest though. Since I live in Australia and the phone was branded I didn't want to wait forever for an update. Now the phone has better battery life and much smoother and responsive

I was also thinking about doing as much as I use to do on a phone but without root but I will definitely miss the decent working ad blocking, youtube ad blocking and all those little improvements xposed gives us.
The only reason I could consider not doing root is the fact of receiving OTA updates without any hassle.. however I guess having root is more important for me due to the xposed modules and tasker
Of all the phones i have owned over the years, this is the longest time (1 week) i kept in stock. I like how the phone looks and performs on stock. Although i am wishing i could have viper without root..

always funny to read that people root there for for different reasons.
With package disabler pro and block this (search them on the play store) I can nearly resist without root atm. But I am VERY tempted, every day. Does anyone know for sure if the knox counter voids warranty in europe or not?
I was planning to keep it stock but I gave in after 4 days. I have to admit it's the longest time I've kept a device stock...
Really happy I rooted. Improved battery life, custom dpi (beyond the built in condensed mode), custom status bar icons.
Xposed working flawlessly for the few modules I have, blazing fast device tailored to my likings. Love it even more with root.

I've heard not, but I'm not a European.
Same, i had the OPO rooted with custom rom only to fi d out i hated it, theres always something broken aside from the fact having updates weekly to fix something which breaks something else. Now im happy, im on the latest PD1 update, pretty fast that it was pushed out by samsung. So yeah in staying stock
Still not rooted. Found no real reason to

Coming from Captivate, the inspire Is like the best phone I have ever used. So smooth and snappy. Everything just works, especially GPS. Even stock rom with all the att bloatware was great.
Can't explain the performance. the specs are pretty similar btw the two phones. my captivate could slow down even with the best roms.

+1 I love my Inspire so much. I'm staying strictly full original with mine. This machine is just a pure gorgeous pleasure to use. There's something to say about grabbing ahold of cold metal. It just feels significant. The same goes for the lowly HTC Freestyle, which I looked at in the store. It also is made from metal.
I too am a big fan of the phone. This was the big winner in my Atrix vs Inspire shootout. There's a thread about it.
One of my main issues was the battery life. That was a real sticking point for me on the Inspire. However, after switching to Leedroid's rom with SetCPU on the default (smartass) setting, I'm currently at 45 hours with 4 hours of awake time, and 30% of my battery left... It's ridiculous.
I'm on revolution 3.3. I wonder if set cpu works also. I'm getting full day of average use without an issue right now with stock.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
I think that depends on if they used an OC kernel. LeeDroid explains explicitly that he developed several presets for SetCPU for different situations.

While they are similar spec wise, the performance of this phone is faaaar better. Here's my Quadrant on one of the CM7 Nightlies.

I had some concerns about the speaker volume also. But they've alleviated because all stock Inspires do it. It's something to do with an automatic control where the volume is initially low and then progressively gets louder as any sound remains going. I can live with it also, since I know it's a common thing and not a fault in my specific unit.
Beyond this, I would say this is the utmost flagship model for Android. There's something to be said about the cold feel of metal which these are made of. It just seems significant. I wish the other companies would get in on the metal uni-body design.
Odd, I love my Inspire, but the one problem I do have is the GPS. I can rarely get locks, regardless of radio or ROM. Have found no fix for this unfortunately

Sorry to hear! I've messed around with the GPS since I've had it and I haven't had any big issues with it. What impresses me even more is that even with GPS disabled and network location on, it shows a spot within 5-15ft from me!! Almost dead on exact without GPS on lol, I love this phone!!!!
GPS has been hit or miss on depending on rom. MIUI, shoshkai (sp?), dillagif 0.1 only (sp?), and now cognition 1.0.1. All of the others haven't worked so well in terms of GPS.
So I've had approximate 5 Captivates since last July and thinking about getting AT&T to let me switch phones since I've had so many problems.. Tech support said, and I quote "Yeah we've had a lot of problems with these phones, and I'm hoping the S2 can save face for Samsung" - NICE!
Fellow Captivate owners - Is the Inspire the one to go with over the Atrix?
From what it looks like, the pros over the Captivate are:
1. GPS works
2. LED Flash (thought I wasn't going to need this until the phone became my main camera)
The "cons"
1. Not AMOLED, but still a nice display
Anything else? Looks like you can still use custom ROM's on the Inspire..
How is stock battery life on the Inspire (without all the fancy shmancy things running (live wallpaper/facebook widgets, etc) ) ?
With stock ROM I get:
• 2-3 day battery life
• All apps work
• Strongest signal
• 100% working wifi
• fastest overall, zero load time for almost everything
• and finally I don't need to install gapps or anything
With any other ROM I get:
• Possibly 1 day battery life
• Orgasm if I get any signal at all
• Wifi works completely on one in a billion roms, flaky on most
• Bluetooth rarely works
• No fix for any issues on ROMs that don't have major devs working on them
• Some apps don't work, and on a few ROMs some apps even kill the system and make it hot reboot
• Lag like it's a 3-year-old donut phone with the processor speed of a retarded potato with AIDS
• some need gapps, which is annoying to re-install every time you update, which also, you have to do every few days instead of once a year
So my conclusion is that screw custom ROMs. It might just be my device but that's how it plays out. I'll be much more careful to buy a phone that will have real support in the future, like the SGS II, Captivate, and SGS III do/will have.
Oh yeah and about my sig, that is the only ROM that I've gotten close to working 100%. And he's not a gtg, but he's got more support than big devs like that ever did, so if you're a sheep and need to use custom ROMs go with MoM.

I apologize, but I strongly detest the statement. I do respect every bit of what you have said, but I really do think that it is just a matter of personal use.
I have ran Aeon and other amazing custom ROMs and so far the best I have tried was Zeus 6. There are a few kinks, but hey-- it works!
Consequently, though, it's all a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer the debloated stock and customize it their own (i.e., build.prop tweaks, etc).
What I am getting at here is that there is no need to bash other custom ROMs. Although you did not point your finger on any specific one, but it really means a lot for people to like the developers' work. It's an Android Device... This is the main reason we got this: open source.

I get the opposite results of u bro... my lag on stock is sooo bad that I was about to throw my phone on the ground as hard as I could. Ics with some tweaks was awesome, jellybean should be really good if it ever comes. Now on my tablet stock on that is pretty good, with aosp it would fly though.

Plus, I agree with ryanscool, any time I have to use stock B3, everything is laggy. Personally, I think that Sammy just did such a crappy job on official GB and used halfass or dirty fixes to make it work. So when ppl try to mod, the crappiness comes out...
There are tons of work being done on the Infuse and I was here when ppl said development was dead; you gotta appreciate what's here man.
My advice Way, stay with stock and stop these random threads broskie

I honestly don't see any xda recognized developers replying to your posts. They most likely have better things to do. I'm no dev, and haven't claimed to be. I'm not mad or even remotely upset, but I do think that you're being a troll. I'm stock on 2.20 (just dd'd the system.img from the 2.20 ruu haha).. Froze a couple bloat apps I don't like. Outside of that, I don't see advantage to the custom ROM's we have. I'm with you beaups. After running only custom roms since the one x came out, I've been on stock 2.20 for the last week and prefer it.
I don't see any tangible performance improvements in day-to-day use with any of the custom roms, and I can handle my own bloat removal. Nor do I use quicksettings or care about minor theming.
Battery life and signal strength/speed on stock 2.20 has been far better than any other custom rom I've used so far, too, and the dreaded low volume bug seems to have been resolved.

You can learn about all that on any android site out there, I was just saying xda IMHO is more for modding your phone. I never said it was ALL about hacking, just giving my opinion that most of the info on here is geared towards modding, rooting, theming, etc. Sure theres discussions in the general thread about that stuff as well as in the themes and apps thread but the ratio of modding info to "general" info is about 5:2

Not going to argue there. I agree, it's mostly about rooting and hacking your phone. My point was towards your statement " but what info on here can you actually use without being rooted? "
I listed things that i've personally done on this forum without having my phone rooted and i dont see why that's not possible.
Anyway, this is a useless argument to have. If someone wants to read/post on this forum without messing with their phone, that's their right and we shouldn't try to push them out.

Locked Bootloader...too many unlocked phones that are technically as good or better for developers to play with. I have the maxx...best phone I've ever had, so I hope someone will start working in it soon as well. There is bound to be someone up for the challenge.
I'm going to take a stab here. There might not be as much development because the demand is not as high as some other devices. I know there is not a huge user base, but also I've heard a lot of folks are happy with just having root access. The stock software is simply good enough. This is how I feel. One of my main reasons for custom Roms in the past was always to get better battery life. That just isn't a concern for me with this phone.

very true, this phone is just great with root.. but then again it would be nice to have a few custom roms to customize it the way we wanted. hopefully it picks up by next year XD
Don't forget new file system, to! A droid Maxx with root is a fairly decent device in and of itself. There are plenty of ways to modify/ customize it, even without root.
fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.
Thinking about picking up the Maxx from the LG G2 (and the note 3 before it)
Hows battery life? Honestly.
LG G2 has 3000 mah, and it's not BAD, but I've had every maxx since the OG, whats screen on time, how often do yall charge?
@YoungSkeezy I could get at least 8 hours screen on time in a days worth of use

With root and xposed framework I really don't feel the need for ROMs on my Maxx and Moto X. The stock firmware is just that good.
This phone has a huge user base. It seems us enthusiasts are few and far between. That said, ever since getting my first android phone, the AOSP ROM was my most coveted. The development for my choice in phones was never complete. This phone has taken over in that respect.
I love this thing and don't see a need to switch for a long time.

Great thing about this phone is that the internals are the exact same as the Moto X which pretty much makes any ROM automatically compatible (other than the touch screen buttons).
But as others have said, the stock ROM is so good that it doesn't need to be changed. Don't think I could live without active notifications either.
I noticed that this phone is not even listed on the top phones section and taken off newest phones list. I bought this phone for my daughter as a birthday gift. She loves it . Shes a texting fanatic. Shes gone almost 2 days on a single charge. Checking facebook and tumblr . 7 hours of screen time. My question is why is this not a top phone. Can a Note 3 do this? or the nexus 5? galaxy 4? HTC one?
On side note even if there where roms out there I wouldn't even think of putting one on this phone. I had a chance to fool around with it. It is what a phone should do . Clear calls. Long battery life. Easy UI. I think this phone should be in the top list.
A ROM on this phone is a negative not a positive. Kexec ROMs are glitchy and you would lose the features that make this phone a one of a kind. Like posted earlier xposed turns stock into a custom ROM with no glitchs.
I would say 70+% of ROM development is geared at putting AOSP on devices with terrible overlays. The other 30% is geared at removing garbage features from the aforementioned terrible overlays.
Once the bloat is removed, this phone is as close to AOSP as I've ever seen straight out of the box, and the added features are actually worth having.
I've actually added a few things from Paradigm (our AOSP ROM) to my personal device, but it's not easy to package for the stock ROM slot and runs like crap on Safestrap.
Frankly, i bought this device because it was already exactly what i wanted. I would never buy a locked down phone that wasn't exactly what i wanted to begin with. If it's not for you, you should probably look at trading it out for one with an "active" development community.

This is a sad day to be sure. This makes us now totally reliant on custom ROMs to receive updates. Stock users are left with Oreo 8.0 and nothing more.
May the V20 live on, better than ever before.
I welcome those of you looking to explore a better experience on your V20 to the ROMs, Kernels & Recoveries subforum, where you can learn all about maximising the capability of the V20.

Well, at least now this V20 (Epyk beast of a phone) can be ripped apart and made even better if wanted with no worries of it being killed by an official update. Let the real fun now begin .

True, as long as we can get the 2nd screen working with custom roms.

It already does.
LineageOS 15.1 and ResurrectionRemix both have second-screen enabled builds available using a custom framework.
LineageOS 16.0, which is currently in beta but has downloads available, has the second-screen working natively, courtesy of Android 9's notch support.
Learned something new. Thanks. Will keep my eye on these 2 going forward!
Do custom Roms support dual lens camera as well?

Correct. I've been using cstark27's GCam mod on my V20 with LineageOS 15.1 and Gamma Kernel for a while now.
MY REACTION:
1. Honestly, I'm not all that pissed, after getting Oreo which makes my phone slightly faster and battery efficient (more often than not).
2. However LG promised 2 years of updates, which means that it should receive updates that were released by Google two years from its launch, i.e. Android Pie October 2018.
3. For now, as they are choosing not to support it any more, LG should just release cam, DAC drivers and second screen sources so that custom ROMs can pick up their slack.
No surprise, never expected the v20 would officially get Pie. It only took them almost two years to release oreo. LG's support of a flagship device is pathetic. After my V20 bites the dust, will move back to Sammy or a Pixel

A bit of a shame TBH. Had a little bit of hope that we would get Pie, but now its official: We are done. Sad that LG didnt use at least "leak" some of the code used in the second screen framework, they wont be needing it any more and it could probably help with second screen on LOS 15. Might as well wait for a stable LOS16, love the developers that are working on the V20. I just hope this phone wont be killed by the lack of software support...

Is there any way to port the official camera to these custom ROMs ?
gcam has no manual controls anywhere as good as the stock camera and this includes video and recorded audio as well.
Maybe open camera but the LG interface is the best

Nup. The stock LG Camera app relies on stock dependencies we don't have, sadly.
I agree it's the best Camera app, but I find GCam to be the best overall replacement from the alternatives I've tried.

Two years updates means this is the end. No pie update, not even for the same old aging flagship like SS Galaxy note 7 (fan edition), Huawei mate 9, Xiaomi mi5s (released around the same time like v20). It's fine, in fact it's great we didn't need to wait for nougat update like the others since it came with nougat out of the box
mine will be 2 years old this may .. so not so surprised in this day and age .. Ive seen phones now that are being released saying the guarantee 2 years of updates.. then it stops .. mine works stock rom etc.. i have google camera , sound is very good.. all fab !
G series (G5, G6, G7), V series(V10, V20, V30, V40) , Q Series(Q6, Q8) , X Series(X300, X400, X500, X cam), CV Series(CV1, CV3, CV5, CV7)
are back in Security Bulletins Site:

hope to see Android Security Updates for my G5
^these new security updates were mentiond a month ago on here and no updates as of yet, shame they cannot give us specific dates or week of when these patches will happen.

Do you know any camera app that can take long exposure shots and save it in raw file. I keep on switching back to stock rom for this one feature. (I like taking pictures of stars) Also how good is your signal strength? I went on trip a few weeks ago towards Canberra and didnt have any signal for most of the time.

Can't speak for the camera side of things sorry. It's probably the least-used aspect of my phone (though I've since moved to a V30+).
As for signal strength, try updating your modem/firmware from the latest pre-20xx KDZ using KDZ Writer in its thread if you have an old version (or are still using the modem from the v10c-TWN KDZ for example, since that was the one to use to root the H990/DS).
Basically you download the latest KDZ for the Aus region , copy it to your SD Card on your phone and then run the commands on your PC via adb. Searching the thread should get you going in the right direction with things.
IIRC (all the commands are in the OP of the KDZWriter thread) you want -m to update the modem. You can't use 20xx+ (Oreo) version KDZs last I checked because it crashes things on Lineage.
Hello V20 users had mine (refurbished) for about 8 months and pretty happy with it. Of course all the phone mfg. want you to freak out over this news and spend another $800 every 2 years... thats not how I roll! I root/ROM all my phones and they all boot, run, & naviagte quicker afterwards, plus the latest updates. I look forward to installing a ROM on this phone too.
It seems that LG has had a bask flip about the v20 it will be getting a taste of pie after all............
