What will I miss if I ditch Xperia? - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had Xperia phones since the Z came out and now my international Z5 E6653 broke and can't get the screen fixed anywhere. It's been almost a month and I keep "waiting on parts." I'm thinking on going back to Nexus since every year Sony makes it even less likely that they'll release phone in the U.S. which means even harder fixed. And I'm forced to pick between root and losing DRM keys.
My question is: Aside from PlayStation and aesthetics, what would make you stay with the Xperia line?
P.S. Is apps controlling LED color an Android feature or an Xperia feature? I remember my old phones needed LiteFlow to change the color per app, but those were in the ICS days I think.

Let see:
beautiful design
beautiful screen
great camera
water resistance
sd card slot (none on nexus)
dual sim probablity(on dual sim xperia models)
lanyard hole for lanyard (not many people use this but I do use mine to prevent phone falling accident )
dedicated camera button
These are I can think of right now.

I think the only thing you'll actually miss is the SD Card slot. I've come from a Nexus and this is my first Sony phone and probably my last. I've got so used to having updates come through quickly, not waiting and waiting for Sony to do their thing.
Quality? Not that impressed really, it looks nice, but I wouldn't say it's quality

Every phone has its up- and downsides. You need to decide by your own what is your priority.
Despite some disappointments I had over the years I am still satisfied with Xperia coz of IP68 certification, sd card, clean UI and a flagship-worthy build quality and design. Everyone has a Galaxy and the Nexus have no sd card.
The lack of support for the Z5 in the US may be a major drawback. Did you contact Sony support to see if they can help? Aside I believe you can get parts on ebay or similar or you just sell yours and get another one. As for DRM there's a temporary root solution available where you can back up yours. You find it here on xda.

How sure are we that we are making the right choice?

Hello XDA developers!
I'm posting this because perhaps it can help someone else.
In August 2014 I bought a beautiful shiny Sony Xperia Z, free from factory which means I paid full price and it was great!
(but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked, it was a joke ).
But, after a little over a day and a half, the screen broke alone in the front pocket of my pants (I confess something tight but had put my cracked Huawei with no problems), it really is not a problem: I had a Huawei with screen without pieces working perfectly fine! The problem is that about 100% of the touch stopped working, making the phone an expensive paperweight.
I could not even take a picture! Everything for what I was use it was for timing a pendulum in my physics class. The most expensive clock that anyone could buy!
Of course, the warranty was conspicuously absent!
Since then I have had to exist with this phone and Genymotion because in college have a smart phone is a necessity (at least where I study).
But now I have the opportunity to purchase a high-end phone and the first thing that came to my mind as a camera flash was Sony (I quote in Spanish: "El ser humano es el único animal, tan animal, que tropieza dos veces con la misma piedra.") Because I'm a Linux / Android developer and Sony launches AOSP kernels and release the source code even before launching the device itself (as with the Z2) leaves to me a good taste in the mouth, especially after being a proud owner of an Xperia Tipo (best smartphone in my life!). The "slow development" is no problem for me, because I am developer for 5 years (although recently I deleted my Gmail account and opened another for personal reasons, thats explains why I'm junior again).
Leaving that aside, is the Xperia Z3 a good choice?
I'm thinking in spend a lot of money (around 2 minimum wage in my country) in a good device but it does not convince me at all, maybe due my trauma with Xperia Z.
As a proud owner of an Xperia Tipo, Sony is amazing, as a defrauded and (fooled?, cheated?) holder of an Xperia Z, Sony sucks.
I post this because maybe someone will feel helped and like me maybe some one indecisive can feel safer to opt in or to run quickly away from Sony.
If the risk is greater than the gain, as the Xperia Z, what are our options? Personally, I look for a device that does not baulk with things like Custom Kernels (as KNOX or locked Bootloaders). Samsung: I'm supposed to own my phone!, right?
Thanks for reading, I hope this is helpful and if it is not, at least I hope it will help someone (even me).
I think of a OnePlus One, I do not care to be brought from China XD. (I've tried to win an invite bu no one love the "inncoent" humor)
Edit: If you think on this, the M8 is a good alternative! In comparison, the "desventage" of the M8 is the waterproof. I can't find any other.
Edit: This was my last phone (this phone is my current phone):
Cracked but fully working Huawey Y320 Arround $60
1. My dog ran and pulled the USB making the phone kiss the ground.
2. Then, I accidentally droped on the College.
3. I was angry cuz it reboot and smashed against the table.
4. Was woking perfectly good till the LCD cracked because I sat on phone.
Z3 is simply amazing but I'd suggest you wait for another 3-4 weeks. The first batch of Z3s are full of manufacturing defects. I had mine for 2 weeks and the black bezel around the screen is damaged. I went to the service center and they asked me to wait another month so that a new batch of phones will be available. Also the camera quality is average. Sony screwed up again in the Superior Auto mode. Manual shots come OK unless there is no bright light around. Speakers are also a bit dull, although I don't use them much. A friend of mine has OnePlus One and it's seriously a flagship killer. But compared to the Z3, OnePlus one looks dull in your hands. Z3 kinda nailed it in design department. So wait, and even if you buy it, just check it in the store itself for any defects. Also don't forget those service tests. Hope it helps.

Knowing that you are a developer, I would definitely say that you should go for xperia Z3 - for personal (rather Z3 community's) interests. Go for z3 dual D6633, and you know why

Yeah! maybe buy it right now is not smart enough and, no, sadly there is no such thing like Sony Centre here. Are one, but they can't do anything (they won't replace the phone never!), I mean, I bring them my Xperia Z and they just acused me of abuse. I really can't realize how the best support brand (in my opinion) can made defective devices!
You don't know how many I've suffer because the Z, I give you a breef detail: As I buy the phone in the half of month, I've eating only eggs by 15+ days because I had no enoguh money to buy descent food! So, my trauma is justificated and I'm scared. Ahhh Sony, There are nothing bad for you, but for us the things are turning black. And the sacrifice does not had any value: I never opend the cammera app, I never setted a password, I never changed the wallpaper, I never enjoyed anything the next day I needed Blackboard in the phone but, of curse, I had no phone.
Thank you for your answer.

You didn't give much away in terms of what you want to do with it. It's a great phone, but if you want a cheaper, larger phone perhaps you could consider the Nexus 6. Also, there's the Z2, S5 and other phones which have been out for a while and are cheaper.
That's not to say I regret getting the Z3; it's the best phone I've ever had, and 4g is amusingly fast, but it's expensive (I got a discount through my employer otherwise I'd probably not have bothered).

Yeah! I'ts not about money, cuz the money it's a vanal stuff. I'm afraid about if my inversion, my money will have any value. As I owned a Xperia Z by 1.5+ days, my inversion had no value. If my Z3 crack again, you know, god bye money!
So, the S5 looks fine, the screen cracks but still working!
Thank you for your answer.
As much as I like the Z3, and getting mine replaced due to severe light bleed on right side of frame and slight indent of frame towards LCD near power button. Others have a pink spot issue in camera (Mine has it but very hard to notice), Phonearena even has an article on it. Now reports of fractured back glass are coming in like the Z1.
Better wait for a new batch like someone mentioned.
If you need one right now immediately, the M8 is better as in US HTC offers free one time screen replacement in first 6 months.

So is it guaranteed that they will make new batches in 3-4 weeks? Wouldn't they still sell the old batch as they phase in the new? I want one but how long would it take for a new batch? I just want to know how long to wait. Any help is appreciated.
To be honest its hard to say.
I would say avoid it. There's no ROM's for it, and probably won't be until well after the Z4 is released if at all, and they won't be of the level of M8 ROMS. The screen, camera, speakers and design aren't as good as other alternatives, and if you managed to break a Z in your pocket which is a miracle, then this will probably do the same.
I'd get an S5 or an M8, the M8 is probably better for custome ROMS, is better made, has a better screem, speakers and in my book a better camera too, but is not waterproof.

Maybe you are right. It's time to look in other way. The M8 sounds like a great idea. It's sad the stuff about the glass. If the glass were better and the screen worked this phone could be perfect. However, I'm gonna see how the things are changing in the time.
Dont forget the free HTC Advantage Program (USA only), Free cracked glass replacement, in first 6 months and +100GB Google Drive storage for 2 years.

Seeing in YouTube looks like M8 camera sucks! How true is this?
I hate it. I'm thinking of getting the z3 because I hate the camera so much. Other than the camera, it's an amazing phone.

Don't worry that's what put me off too. I made my dad get it because he is more accident prone and it is one of the best if not the best in drop tests.

[Q] is getting the z3 now in the almost ending 2015 a good idea?

I'm considering in purchasing a xperia z3 D6603. I will be coming from the new 2015 moto x pure which I can't put my finger on it but something about the phone I don't like. I know the mot x pure is a brand new phone with brand new specs so why would i downgrade to an older device? I've always sparked interest in the Sony line of devices. The z5 is just way to expensive for me. I'm still in the 14 day return period for the moto x pure and thinking of returning it and ordering a xperia z3. Does the z3 already have 5.1.1 lollipop ota? And which varient of the z3 is the more supported version?. I'm from the u.s but looking in the android dev thread it looks like the D6603 is the more supported version.
Any thoughts and issues with the device?
Thanks in advance
I think you should
It's an awesome piece of device. I bought mine 6 months ago knowing that there will be newer flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or the upcoming Sony Xperia Z5 and so on. Despite the newer flagships on the market, I still consider this unit at top notch. Sure it has no fingerprint sensor like the 2 that I mentioned, but nonetheless, it's a handsome piece of device. As for the OTA update, I'm not quite sure if it is available there in the US.. But I'm pretty sure with PC Companion, you can update yours easily. Not to mention that the upcoming Android Marshmallow or Android M for Sony will be released before the year ends. Just watch out for dead pixels; those are the common defects I read about on the internet.
I just bought my Z3 a few days ago... My G4 screen died and I decided to get an older device. Like you I had the same issue with the G4... Great device but there was just something about it I just cant get away with, i think it mightve been the clunky interface or the whole G4 package just seemed to much.. Im not sure.
However, Im happy with the Z3.. I also looked at the M9 as Im a bit of a Media lover, but for me the Camera on the M9 just hadnt improved enough to warrant the cash... Yes ok, the speakers on the M9 do give a richer fuller sound than the Z3, but the ones on the Z3 are not to be ignored. They can lack bass and mid-range, sounding a bit tinny at times, but for me it was... Great speakers, Awesome camera, great battery of the Z3 Or Amazing speakers, awful Camera and ok battery of the M9.. The Z3 won... plus I like alot of the Apps that come on the Z3, which save me having to download extra apps to waste more battery, such as:
A podcast App built strainght into the Walkman player
Google Newstand and Xperia lounge for news, music and a few interesting things.
Sony Video
A built-in FM Radio
and Love it oir Hate it... Sonys LifeLog.
The speakers are Loud but again can lack richness.
A great all round package... and even though its very square.. It looks quite cool as well and a nice dearture from all the Samsung sheep walking around.
Here in UK, we have LP 511, but just hope SONY survive with the Z5... Their mobile devision hangs in the balance here.
Z3 is a great device.. ide recommend it to anyone
I bought this phone 3 months ago, and it is an awesomely great looking phone with good specs... I except more from the camera, but the design is outstanding to me... You'll see what i mean when you have this phone, especially the copper colour. Multitasking is great, it is comfortable to hold, the speaker is awesome but sometimes it is a bit low, especially when watching on YouTube., it is fast, no stutter what so ever, except in lockscreen which is frequently stuttered (it is a new bug, haven't discovered this in 5.0.2), low light and outdoor camera is very good, it is very rigid to me, especially if you use tempered glass screen protector on both front and back, the battery is great, but the performance is a bit reduced since. 200 update and later..

I'm about to buy that phone next week. Is it still a problem with camera after rooting? I don't know much about it, that's why I'm asking.
Definitely worth it. Esp the price is low now. I have Z3, my brother the S6 and he is thinking of switching to a Z3 too. Mainly bec of the battery, waterproofness, SD Card slot, front speakers and practically everything else except maybe the screen amd fingerprint scanner. If fingerscanner is a must i advised him to get tge Z5, but the price is still quite high.

I bought the xperia z3 a few days ago and i have no regrets. The battery, sleek UI and design is what makes this phone amazing and the community on the Z3 forums on xda are one of my favourites so far

To Z5 or not to Z5

Hi,
I'm due for my upgrade and I have the option to upgrade from my Z2 to a Z5...
Should I? Or should I wait for the Z6?
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
Honestly, I'd wait to see how good (or bad) Marshmallow will be on the Z5 before buying it. I have a Z5 and Marshmallow will decide if I sell it or keep it. If Marshmallow isn't better than Lollipop is, I'm not keeping that phone.
I do that change from Z2 to Z5 and im very happy, the z5, has a better battery, better camera i dont notice the overheating problem. If you can and want wait for the Z6 wait for it. But if you want a change do it. MM in Z3 is amost perfect, i supposed in Z5 it would be

+1 on this.
I just switched to a Z5 from a Z2 a little over a week ago and I have mixed feelings, though mostly good. Some background: I only switched because my Z2 has been crapping out lately with a seemingly corrupt data partition and reboot issues. I had a Z5 on hand which I had bought on eBay because the seller had it up for a really great deal plus a bunch of brand new unused accessories (originally just bought it to try it out and resell if I didn't want to upgrade), so I switched to it as a backup when my Z2 got totally borked just hours before I was leaving for vacation.
The Z5 is nice overall. The hardware is beautiful. It feels considerably lighter than the Z2, which is really great (but probably mostly thanks to the 300mAh less of battery juice ). It is a tad thinner and a little less wide, too, so it does have a better feel in my hand. I miss some specific custom rom features I have become used to, but not as many/much as I would have expected. Mostly I've found myself missing control over LED notification colors for every app, control over heads up notifications per-app, and the handy delete button on the notification when you take a screenshot (seriously didn't even realize that wasn't an AOSP feature). I know there are apps and Xposed modules for the first two things, but I've yet to successfully install Xposed on the phone without perpetual bootloops. Speaking of the notification LED, I do miss the more attractive in-speaker placement of the LED on the Z2 (Z5 just has a dot on the top-left corner of the glass), however, it is much easier to see it on the Z5 when laying flat on a table/desk since it's no longer dipped down in a cavity (which caused it to be blocked by the edge of the top glass panel on the Z2).
As far as the SD810 inside, I don't notice a big difference in the performance compared to the SD801 in the Z2, for my usage. The UI does run a bit more fluidly, but that may be because of the custom rom and/or other mods I had on my Z2 that I don't have on the Z5. I would say I'm a moderately heavy user, but mostly of less intense apps. I rarely play games on my phone and the only one I've played so far on the Z5 is Pocket Mortys, which has no 3D rendering. That said, it runs perfectly fine without lag, though I haven't played it for more than about 15 minutes at a time. The phone does heat up a bit, but not noticeably more than my Z2 or any other phone I've used. It doesn't ever feel hot during my regular usage.
The volume rocker position is weird, but not as inconvenient as you might expect. I actually don't mind it at all.
I very much like not having to open an annoying flap to plug in a USB cable.
The microSD slot is built into the SIM card tray, so you cannot remove the microSD without the phone rebooting itself because the SIM card was removed. You probably rarely have to do this, but it's something to note.
Not sure if it's just my unit, but the screen has a noticeable backlight bleed at the top. It's not a huge deal, but it can be bothersome if you're OCD like me. I usually stop noticing it, though. Also, the screen has this weird software quirk where it'll have REALLY high contrast for several seconds after turning the screen on. My guess is it's incorrectly reading ambient light and thinks it's really bright out. I think it should be fixable with a software update, but who knows if Sony will indeed fix it. This issue isn't a big deal either, but it's kind of annoying.
The camera quality is still crappy compared to every other flagship phone available. The post-processing seems to just soften everything and you get absolutely no micro detail in any textures or anything. The edges of objects blend into their backgrounds and there's no sharpness. It really sucks. Worse than my Z2. It's the software post-processing for sure, as Google Camera takes better photos across the board from what I've tested (I'm far from any kind of pro photog, though), but unfortunately it and every other camera app I've tried to use can't seem to read the camera lenses properly (it only has resolution options up to 8.1MP and the Google Camera viewfinder shows everything squeezed in disproportionately) and have a LONG shutter delay. It's honestly unacceptable IMO. I'm still searching for a camera app that doesn't suck on this phone... Fortunately, I don't take a lot of serious photos (I mostly just Snapchat stupid or funny things I see), but I was trying to do so more before my Z2 crapped out. This phone is making that difficult.
Another problem I as well as others on this forum have is bluetooth. My Z2 had no problems, but with the Z5, my Pebble will at some point start to lose connection constantly, which sometimes resolves on its own after a while or force me to reboot the phone to resolve it. It also sometimes doesn't connect automatically to my car's bluetooth, which is a huge pain while driving.
Apparently Xposed works on the phone, but I have yet to get it to install and boot properly. The guides on XDA say it need to bootloop "a few"/"2-3" times, but I have not had any luck waiting for several reboots. So that's something to consider if you like Xposed.
So as you can tell, in my experience, the worst things about the Xperia Z5 are software-related and hopefully might be fixed in the next update from Sony or in a custom ROM if someone releases one. There are some nice hardware improvements, but nothing worth using an upgrade or spending money on IMO (unless you reallly want a fingerprint sensor). I think it's worth waiting it out as long as your upgrade window doesn't expire. And if the Z5 doesn't get improved, at least it'll only be a couple more months until the Z6 is announced... :silly: And this is a point in the year where a bunch of exciting new devices are about to be announced, so I think it'd be worth your wait if you aren't completely committed to Sony phones.
Yes it's stylish reliable, has an awesome camera. You get a premium high powered phone hassle free with a great fingerprint scanner, be aware if you have come out of the shower or just washed hands the fingerprint scanner will be hit and miss but is not an issue.

And if the Z5 doesn't get improved, at least it'll only be a couple more months until the Z6 is announced... :silly: And this is a point in the year where a bunch of exciting new devices are about to be announced, so I think it'd be worth your wait if you aren't completely committed to Sony phones.

Better, unbiased review compared to reviewers across the internet.
I am also planning of replacing my Z2 to Z5. My Z2 still runs really well but i might be getting Z5 just for the sake of it being newer and has a fingerprint scanner and better camera. That may be a wrong move that would actually make me regret spending $700 just for the incremental changes. Im starting to doubt the camera's picture quality too. In addition to SD 810 heating issues.
Apart from Z5, I have my eyes on X Performance too.. Although shrinking the screen size and gaining a bit of a bulk, and lesser battery, I am not sure now.. Maybe waiting for the next Xperia flagship later this year.
I had an Samsung GalaxyS6 while I was trying to sell my Z2, and I didnt like it. I have developed this phobia with Touchwiz phones. They feel slooow, too cluttered, too much unnecessary features and apps. And battery was awful compared to my Z2. Although I believe camera performance was better.
Personally... My missus has the new Motorola X Force. It's am awesomely indestructible phone and i think I'd pick that over the Z5 after using both

Hi there,
I went from Z1C to Z3C (was a very good and even a better device) and now I switched to Z5 (the 5.2"). I have to say, it is a good phone, but the difference is not that significant. As soon as the X performance comes I am going to change again..

Buying Z3 - Is it worth it yet?

Hi guys,
I'm going to buy Xperia Z3, but I have few questions before.
1. Is it worth it yet? WIll it get lower with the price in the time? Actually it costs about 250 Euro
2.. How about camera, I've read many reviews about it and there are diffrefent minds about it. I also saw some threads with camera mods (from Z5 libs etc) , does it seriously get better with quality?
3. How about official updates, will they be released yet?
4.If I'd decide to root phone and run custom rom, I had to restore stock rom to have warranty back? And to run custom rom on z3 I need to unblock bootloader first, yes?
That's all I think
Greetings, have a nice evening!
i bought mine last year and its still doing fine
guess i keep it for another year
i never had any issues running apps on google play due to slow hardware, so if you ask me the hardware is still fast enough
also the 3gb of ram is still plenty enough (i usually have over 1GB free)
if you try to flash roms that need dedicated kernels, yes you need to unlock the bootloader, otherwise you'll be fine with locked bootloader, there are ways to root official roms with bootloader locked
currently official android 5.1.1 rom is available and official android 6 beta rom has been released recently (you can find it in the forum here and install it)
about camera, im currently using android 6 beta and im sensing better image quality but im not sure since i havent had the chance to test the camera more precisely, but one thing is for sure, camera is not way much faster than before
p.s if you are not in hurry wait till x performance hits the market and if will probably kill the price tag on Z5
cheers
Thanks for your review
I have two ways, I can buy it right now and sell my s3 or wait till my s3 will crash totailly (USB is crashed, it charges only when phone isnt being used, 'cause mainboard is burnt near USB so it makes it unrepairable) and then buy it.
But anyway z5 is kinda expensive and I dont think the price will be likely z3
i really love my z3, its one of the most sleek device that i ever had.
the performance is good, never experience bad moments with my z3
camera was okay, its not that good, you will have a shock your phone before is an iphone, the sony camera software didnt have exposure lock in auto mode
quality wise is on par with iphone 5s, but it can pull brighter image in low light but its have a lots of noise (ios 12800)
front cam was bad, really really bad, its like 480p quality, noise, soft images, ugly.
and.., z3 bluetooth sucks, if you cover the top left corner of the phone, the bluetooth is distorted. (in my case)
if you can buy it cheap, then its worth it
still no plan to change my z3, its done it jobs well...
I can buy it for a little bit more than 270 euro, so I dont know

I have been using Xperia XZ for past 140 days, and I'm sad.

Reason 1: Phone is slightly bent.
Edit: I carry it in my right pocket, and seeing it got bent in such a short time upsets me. When you save up to get a phone for months and it is your first ever flagship device, you try to treat it like it is the most fragile thing you own. (note: except those times when i washed it, it was irresponsible, i know >-<)
Reason 2: No raw support.
Reason 3: Too much sharpening in the camera and no way to turn it off.
Reason 4: Headphone jack behaves funny ( probably because the phone got bent. I carry it in my right pocket how the hell did it got bent that easily :'( )
Reason 5: Android updates are way behind older phones. Edit: It seems like this is a problem because of the HK firmware. I wasn't aware other regions was getting updates a week after Googles own phones. Seeing Xperia X series already having the updates was a bit frustrating.
Reason 6: No CM (or lineage) (or not enough development?)
Reason 7: Wi-Fi range is way, way, way worse then my old Xperia P. Seriously? (Same modem, same frequency band)
Edit: Xperia P gets 3 bars and My laptop gets 5 bars where Xperia XZ almost has no reception and has drops.
There might be an eight reason but cant remember anything else. Does anyone else feel sad because they have bought this phone?
Edit: I think I have mis-tapped on the wrong section to submit this thread.

I am using the phone for almost 5 months and:
1. no bent, phone is flat without scratches ...
2. true .. but i dont miss it
3. again true ... camera is not the best
4. no problem here .. i carry the phone too in my pocket and without any protection
5. quite the opposite ... it is almost the first phone with 7.1.1 android, except google phones
6. if you want custom roms on your phone why did you buy xperia in the first place? ... there are nexus and pixel phones with almost no restrictions
7. WiFi range is fine here ... but yes there are phones with better range.
So in a one sentence i really like this phone, and i am looking forward to XZ premium later this summer.

1. Your fault
2. Why did you buy this phone if you need RAW support?
3. It's really not that bad after a 7.1.1. update, but sure, it's there more in Sony than other brands, as it was for ages now, it's common knowledge at this point. So if you needed the best in the market camera on the smartphone, you bought the wrong device. There were tons of reviews when the phone was released, didn't you come across this point anywhere ever?
4. Bending the phone shouldn't have any effect on the headphone jack, it doesn't really matter, when you take the phone apart you can see why it shouldn't be related. Something else wrong with it, maybe dirt? Mine is fine, I use both stock Sony earphones and my AKG K52 with the phone, both work great.
5. Very untrue, maybe keep track of Sony updates better? Apart from Nexus, the first one to get 7.1.1, the same will probably be for the next update. The same was with 6.0.1. for my ex Z3, so yeah, Sony has been pretty quick and reliable in terms of SW updates.
6. Pretty normal there still isn't that much development or interest for this unit, plus it's not that popular in the first place, so not a lot of people buy and develop for it, same goes for Sony in general. That being sad, Since the M4 Aqua and Z3 and now with XZ, I've stopped rooting my phones because to me there just isn't need to. With older HTCs and Samsungs, you really had to because the software and UI were pretty much crap on any brand. Apart from Pixels, Sony's is the cleanest and lightest out there.
7. For the last five years, I haven't noticed an upgrade or a downgrade in my WiFi range on any smartphones I use, it just works and it's fine. So, can't really comment on that, it works, I dunno...
One thing I did notice with Sony devices compared to other brands I used, a lot of times you'll se one bar or no bars at all, but you still have good signal and speed, it doesn't actually loose it, same goes for network signal. So I've learned not to pay much attention to the bars and indicators, just see how it actually works. Two rooms away from my router I barelly get one bar on WiFi and I still get 20Mbps out of max 50, so yeah...As long as it works, I don't care about the bars.
Seems to me you bought a wrong device for you and your needs and expectations. Sell it while it's still worth something and grab an S7 or something, I dunno. It has a better camera and you can flash tons of custom roms on it if you like.

1) bent? What do you do with your phone? D:
2) If you use aosp, you have raw. Sony Block that. But no problem. The image processing is not heavy like Samsung, huawei, LG ecc. So the images in editing are a lot editable than others.
3) Not really a problem. Other brand do very worst. It's one of best camera there. No doubt about it.
4)your problem. Not mine or the other.
5) do you really buy a xz or a clone? Is one of the first phone Who recive Android 7.1.1 after Google phones.
6) is in project, but for now is really necessary? We have a really stable phone with latest updates... Buy a Google phone to have those rom always.
7) not real a problem. Some new phone do worst than xz.
I'm really happy to buy this phone and every day gave me satfactions. Great performance, battery, and amazing camera.

I agree that its not such a good phone.
Point 1: my phone is also bent, and its not because of my pocket force for sure.
Point 3: agree
Point 5: strongly disagree, my brother has a Pixel and my phone is right up there following it with updates and security patched every month (usually not more than 10-20 days behind). Cant complain about the speed of updates; though they didn't improve the phone or fix any of the problems by doing them.
In conclusion; highly regretting buying this phone.
I come from S6 to XZ, this is my first xperia device.
You say XZ software is so bad, TRUE !!! As bad as galexy devices are bad...
More 7.1.x features lost in xperia XZ update like Night light. We got secure update end of the month (we get fw 199 with april secure patch 25th april, after one week google release next secure patch!)
No new features or improvement at any updates. (call logs lag, battery drain, etc) only secure patch and not more.
If you want real smooth experience, fast update, more secure device, good third-party development, buy a pixel (or xl if you like phablet). Samsung as bad as sony at third-party support! We talk about development not cooking ROM! Very easy to de-odex,de-bloat,de-knox, adding some mode you can find inside web and xda, change the build.id inside build.prop and call that "New Custom ROM"... That is not really third-party development, just call it moding and cocking rom.

3. working on it on aosp and lineage.
4. my jack is working perfectly.

6. on the way, the zip is building Right now
7. my wifi range is correct even throught a reinforced armed concrete piece ( it block much radio data but i can watch 1080p60 videos nicely.

Sadly pixel phones were not available in where i live, at least at a reasonable price. You would do the same if you were on a limited budget and after the best you could afford. (My other option was Htc m10)
You really should have gone with the HTC 10 if you had the option.
Unfortunately my carrier in the UK did not stock the 10 so with limited options and a "time to try something different approach", I went with the XZ.
The XZ is just OK in my view and a minor upgrade compared to my 3 Year old HTC M8 which I had previously. The only tangible improvements being a slightly larger screen and a fingerprint sensor.
- The processer may be a recent gen snapdragon 820 but it does not feel any better in day to day usage than the M8. I am actually surprised how laggy it can feel sometimes for what was a 2016 Flagship phone.
- The camera might be a higher resolution but the picture quality is dreadful
- Continual drop-outs when connecting my iPad via the Sony Hotspot which can only be resolved by restarting the phone
- Way too much Sony bloat ware, all of which can't be disabled or removed
- The Android overlay is not as good as HTCs with some features which I really miss in day to day use
- Limited availability of genuinely good accessories because I assume the phone has not selling well .... cases and properly fitting tempered glass protectors which don't make the phone look rubbish.
Based on my experience, this will be my first and last Sony phone.

Try searching Devilcase for tempered glass, expensive but reliable.
Ragarding bloatware, in my z5 I was able to uninstall most of them, but I don't understand why sony don't let us uninstall them . Not even a single app such as games.
I mean Sony trying to force us to play these games or what?
I would have gone for htc 10, but it was chunky and not as pleasing as sony in design perspective.
Yes it's sad. I'm back to xperia from lg G4. Before I had xperia x8, Ray, M(was mistake), Z1, and after G4 back to XZ. Each phone have bugs and problems. In XZ I see few. Phone it's too sensitive I mean frame. Camera it's worst than G4 speakers are quite. Maybe root for locked phones gives moore lives for it.

Hey -- I don't mean to sound rude, but how could you bend the phone? The entire front of the device is glass ... and glass doesn't bend!
If you're still within your initial warranty period, i would suggest taking the device back to where you purchased it, nicely explain some of your technical concerns and ask for a replacement. It shouldn't be an issue, but if it is, contact Sony. You will probably be given a refurbished device, but if there is genuinely something wrong, you may be better off. Good luck -- it is a terrific phone, btw.

Phone does not sit well on a flat surface, its bent from corner to corner.
Thank you for your advice. I live in Mid East and bought the phone on a trip to HK (from Fortress). I dont know if a refurbished device could be trusted. Do you have any past experiences with Sony?

SO sorry for the delay ... I don't check in here as often as i should (probably).
I've had great experiences with Sony. I've always been very happy with the way they handle returns/refunds and fixing anything even remotely wrong with any of their products. Honestly, I don't have a bad thing to say about Sony.
1 month with my XZ, awesome device.
Coming from a Xperia Z2 must say that WiFi range is worse, can live with that. I tend to be very careful with my phones, after one month I have little scratches on my screen, never happen with my Z2 in the same amount of time (bot phones naked, later put a frame case on z2 but at first was naked). Weird thing, I thought glass protection of z2 (advertised as shatter proof glass) was inferior to xz (gorilla glass)
