It happens. Anything you buy with a screen has a chance of having a dead pixel. Low chance but happens

I've never heard of dead pixels after use. Usually it's something you get when you first buy a device. Problem from the factory rather than age.

thanks.

Must be even more rare. Have had one laptop with a dead pixel but that's it. But, screens can only last so long so makes sense. Burn-in is the only screen issue im worried about though

S4 screen crack

When I read the threads about the s4 internal screen crack I said this is because of the careless but now it happened to me :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying: . Without any notice my phone was working fine and suddenly in the middle the screen get cracked, not the outside one but the internal one .
I buy it from handtec uk tomorrow I will contact them and see what to do, I know it will be difficult to explain that to them that this happened by default but I will give it a try.

hmm they are either made in Korea or China as far as I know. It says under your battery.
This is happening a lot. I don't think its an issue of misuse at this point. There have been a ton of reports of this exact thing happening.
people pulling their phones out of their pockets to find this happening.
This is obviously a manufacturing issue with the lcd under the glass. I have just read to many threads of this exact thing to believe its misuse at this point.

Yes I understand that. I have read a lot of threads about this problem but I did not expected that to happen by default. It looks like I through 750$ to the garbage if they did not fix it for me. The phone was cool interesting but now I think I will shift to another brand

Right cause a wonky story and the fact that he says the phone is made in "Vtnam" means he's giving the whole story... Most of these cases are from misuse if not 100% of them. People don't realize a big screen means you need to be a little more careful. Jeese...
I got mine today for work and it developed a internal screen crack while transferring contacts needless to say it was swapped out before it was rung up

see, this is an issue that is going to have to be acknowledged/addressed at some point or another. No telling how many people its happening to that don't even use xda to report these types of issues.

For everyone who's saying it's all from misuse, think about the S3. How many people had this issue with the 3? None that I can think of, and personally I abused mine - dropped dozens of times and it was still in one piece when I traded it in for the S4. I don't think it's a coincidence that all of a sudden A LOT of different people are reporting the same thing.
me either. I don't see why everyone has such a hard time admitting that there may be a quality control issue here. Just because you don't want to believe it doesn't make it not true. I am personally nervous every time I put my phone in my pocket. I have since taken out a squaretrade policy due to this issue alone. I would love to use my phone without a case but I seriously don't think its wise with this going on. I wonder if its isolated to a bad batch or a design flaw in the total manufacturing process.
It's all your fault, didn't you know you were supposed to carry it around on a down feather pillow.

read all the comments on this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQ14_8XDqQ of the same thing happening to A LOT of s3 owners. make sure you read the comments and the problem starts to become very clear. This issue dates back to the s3 and I even found evidence of the oled on s2's doing the same thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5KxsniG_NM Samsung knows about this problem and refuses to acknowledge it. These customers are NOT abusing their phones. this is a major manufacturing issue with samsungs amoled screens.
My s3's outerglass screen majorly cracked 3 days after purchase from a mere 1.5 foot fall onto a hardwood floor. First time it saw any impact. It's ridiculous. I read many forums with tons of people having similar problems or worse like screen cracking from just being inside a pants pocket. Seemed to be an issue with the gorilla glass screens from all info i gathered. Samsung refused to even acknowledge there was an issue. Hate to think there is an issue with s4 displays too.

[Q] Can someone explane the high amount of bricked Nexus 5

Hey,
I come from the HTC One section and so I know the basics about Android rooting. But there are still some differences I wanna know before buying a Nexus 5.
Compared to the HTC One I found here a amazingly high amount of people having the random bricks:
[Q] what is qhsusb bulk ?
[Q] Bricked Nexus 5 doesn't boot + no access adb/fastboot/recovery (corup. bootload)
Have I bricked my N5?
So I don't wanna spam you
Ok, AFAIK these bricks happend randomly and not after flashing something. So their phones just randomly died after working correctly for a long time. Can someone tell me if these bricks could also occure when having an unrooted/locked N5 ?
Or does it only appear to be a high amount of bricks and it actually isn't ?
Thanks for helping me
my 2 cents: if you do your homework the likeliness of bricking the phone (no matter of what you flash) is very small.
all other "random" bricks could be just defective hardware or random issues. that's why all devices have warranty.
advice: keep your phone stock for a few days / weeks. just to test it (in case some unfortunate hardware failure appears you will have a better poker face for RMA). after that you can document / read / learn and decide weather you want to tweak it.

Hi,
Ah...? It's not what I called an "amazingly high amount of people having the random bricks"...
Plus people claim they "bricked" their device when it's not a "brick"...
I don't think the number is like you describe.
A real bricked device without doing anything is minor for me and all the rest is by doing something wrong, at user level. It's always the same thing for all the devices (I agree some are more concerned than others) but the Nexus 5 does not suffer more...

Count me in as one of the "hard bricked" phones with just normal use and seems to be a hardware failure. I have seen a few similar post recently but doesn't see like a very big number of instances. Mine had the show up in device manager as "QHSUSB_BLUK" issue. I was not flashing anything or using the phone at all. Just picked it up and it was off.

Yep, it stinks but does happen. I had it happen on a different device and have seen about the same amount of instances on a number of devices I've followed. The n5 is no different.
One thing you must take into account is that many people buy the Nexus 5 because it is very much a developer friendly phone; so the percentage of Nexus 5 users who post on XDA Developers and who do things that increase the chance of bricking (such as installing a custom ROM) is probably much higher than the percentage of HTC One users who do the same things.

The n5 is a difficult device to truly brick by flashing things. The ones I've seen that are bricks are failure of the emmc, imo.
a far majority of bricked nexus 5 are not really bricked, its just users doing stuff to their phone without knowing how to recover from their own errors. sure, a few are defective and get bricked on their own, but thats very rare. but the far majority are just user error.
I saw another device kernel flash brick. I assume incorrect bootloader would brick too.
Bricks are caused by 2 things.
1) defects
2) idiots

Yes, but you're still more likely to brick it by messing with the root system than if you just keep the phone stock forever and never even go into fastboot. I'm not saying that the Nexus 5 is easy to brick, I'm just saying that it probably has a much higher percentage of users who are into modding than other phones, I guess you could counter this argument by saying that many people buy the Nexus 5 for the "stock Android" experience though. Your point does stand though, many of the bricked Nexus 5s I've heard of sound like it was due to a hardware fault and not caused by something done with software, you can't expect this not to happen with anything manufactured in mass production though.

The only real manufacturing fault that seems to cropping up is the emmc failure.
But I'd say the most part it is user error.
Many of the bricked threads are actually just soft bricks which can be fixed.
Others are often caused by cross flashing things for a different device.
I've seen people flashing kernels for different phones.
Restoring efs partitions from old to new n5s.
All result in bricks.
The nexus is more open than many other devices.
Unfortunately this gives those who don't know what they are doing the ability to do things they really shouldn't be doing.
As first stated. Failed emmc seems to be the only thing that is a genuine brick. Pretty much all others I think are either not actual bricks or user created bricks.

Personally I prefer not to acknowledge the existence of "soft bricks" though. It ain't a brick if its fixable.

yeah, I know... on the HTC One section (I have the impression) this is even more popular... they unlock the bootloader mod their device... relock the bootloader and then they can't unlock it again and they are stuck on custom firmware ...

Going to buy second-hand N5. What should I look out for?

I'm going to buy a N5 soon from someone, since all the retailers are either out of stock or very overpriced. Although I have bought other phones from him, I like to be super-safe.
So, are there any issues specific to the N5 that I should check for before I buy it? How do I check the life-timer? Can that timer be reset w/o unlocking the bootloader?

Not sure newer devices have them, or I have just not noticed/found it. Check the usual stuff, sensors, buttons, physical state, charge port etc. Tbh should be OK if you have bought from the same guy previously.
EDIT: Check the screen colours, some people report yellowish tint's - I haven't experienced it though.

Neither of those services are available in my country.
Hello,
1. Make sure the device isn't cracked, scratched.
2. Check for Loose buttons.
3. Check whether the GPS is getting locked or not.
4. Make sure there is no bleeding on the screen
5. Ask for the original receipt/bill and see whether the phone has warranty in your country or not.
By taking a look at the bill date you can get to know the date of purchase and can get a rough idea about the life timer or whatever it's called.
If you have all the above points covered, I guess you are good to go!?
Also, make a phone call with it to make sure the other party can hear you ( very important )

[Q] Dropped nexus 5 in water, problems after charging

Hiya!
I dropped my darling nexus 5 in the sink yesterday. I got it up after maybe 1 second and it was working as normal. After some hours it started rebooting and when I plugged the charger in (I now know how stupid that was) the touch stopped working altogether. I put it in rice over the night and this morning I started to disassemble it and removed the battery and cleaned the inside with a soft toothbrush. I have now ordered a new battery but I'm afraid that since the touch stopped working when I plugged the charger in I have caused some permanent damage. What do you think? And if the touch is still unresponsive when I put the new battery in, what part of the phone is damaged?
Your should have put it in the rice for two days before you tried anything else. At this point there could be any part our multiple parts fried. No one will be able to tell you what is wrong. Time for a new phone

Not much because i bought this phone only 3 months ago. But even i bought it a year ago, there are no reason to active a home screen for long time we can play game, read book, surf web , but no one just let home screen stay active to look at it in long time. That why this is realyy weird to me )
I just wonder will Samsung replace the screen for me under warranty ?

Keeping your screen at full brightness with longer screen time out is going to do this. Never keep a static image on any non LED screen for a long period of time.

Because they never send a new phones... also most likely the screen they replaced was not new one either and thus it was used for quite a long time, maybe in a bad ways that set it close to burn out(yep, it's called burn out = pixels fade). It's not fair to have warranty only to be send/replaced with used parts and phones... but yes, if you read the warranty - it's legal.
Have a replacement on the way, told Att I just wasn't happy with the display. So hopefully the replacement will be better.
