Hi folks
My Nexus 5 - unlocked with factory 6.01 MMB29V - has no signal "No Service" displayed. I think it is because I messed up when entering the Phone Info menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and selecting "USA Band" which is now the only option available. I'm on Virgin UK but get the same issue using an 02 SIM card too.
Could anyone offer a solution to getting back the European Band option, if that is what is needed, please?
- many thanks.
The phone is a d820 or d821?
Hi its a D821, bought from Carphone Warehouse in the UK.
Hmm, I didn't think it was possible to enable North American bands on the d821 as the USA and Canada have the d820.
Have you tried reflashing the radio from a stock rom or an entire stock rom?
Thanks for reply.. I flashed ROM from Google's factory images (hammerhead-mmb29v-factory-62a68ee9.tgz) but the option still remains as only "USA BAND".
There seems to have been a solution using a temporary ROM for the Nexus 6P & 5X to bring back the full options:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/recovering-usa-band-to-auto-mode-4636-t3271347#
But I haven't found any solution for the 5
- regards
Maybe a solution
I got contact to bitdomo and got some infos:
!!! Both advices are from bitdomo, nothing comes from me. I deserve no "Thanks" if this works. !!!
1.) Flash Lineage OS an hammerhead. LOS had the "changing-baseband"-feature included. (Yes, feature is included, but did not work for me -> maybe got hardware-issue)
2.) Try:
"Your device probably has a hardware fault or the efs got corrupted by an imei change. The originial imei is printed on the main logic board somewhere. If that does not matches the current imei when you dial *#06# then the phone you currently have is stolen or someone tried an efs repair before. Also Linage Os do the same thing what I did for nexus 5x 6 6p and pixel. Back up your current efs Copy the backup to your pc Try this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3lGxQkNaMg Download link in description. Everything you need to rebuild a working efs is inside the rar file. If everything stays the same then you have a hardware problem."
(Everything works, but in the end nothing changed -> I got a hardware issue)

I am also facing the same problem. Any one who has solved it ?
Got the same problem, from 1 day i have notification (no service)
Got the same problem plz plz some one helpp
Not sure if it's the same problem you folks are having, but there's a thread on here entitled "Problem with Airplane Mode on Epic after installing midNight ROM" that describes a problem with no signal after a ROM flash, and a solution via using Odin to update just the modem.
I would post a link, but the forum here won't let me because I don't have enough posts. Your mileage may vary, but the symptoms sound similar so it might give you a place to start even if the fix doesn't fix you.
I too am having the same problem. It seems that my Phone (Galaxy SC-02b) does not recognize the modem/internal antena.
I installed the Darky's Rom on it, and it runs great. Except the signal part. I can flash it back to the original, but I want to see if I can make it work.
I think it's just a matter of picking out the correct modem tar, but I can't find the right one. My phone is a little bit odd, It's a Japanese Galaxy, so not sure if I can find it here. Unfortunately my Japanese is not good enough to go scouring the japanese forums.
Thanks for any help.
Hey Yefimenko what 3G bands are used in Japan 1900/850 or maybe 900/2100 or 1700/2100 ? Can you find that out ? then you need to flash modem that supports that , Europe support 900/2100 US/Canada/Australia 850/1900 and AWS 1700/2100 Tmobile US /Wind? mobilicity Canada

We've been through all of this before the Japanese phones will only work with the Japanese kernel. Symptoms are usually sin not recognized and no radio signal. Either the phone.apk is bad or the modem is incompatible.
You could try the http://romkitchen.org/ and make an update with different modem only.
If your Samsung Galaxy S displays no network/no signal, or emergency calls only, try the following things:
1. flash the device again with the modem image (download the firmware of your device from samfirmwares.com, delete everything from the .tar file except modem.bin, and then flash this file to the phone with Odin (you can get Odin and instructions from that site too)
2. maybe your nv_data.bin file or /efs directory got corrupted, make a backup of the folder, then simply delete nv_data.bin, it will be recreated for you on Galaxy S.
For this, you’ll need root. If you have a root-enabled kernel, like the Voodoo lagfix kernel, you only have to install the Superuser app and Busybox on the phone, download the Android SDK to your PC, install platform-tools in the SDK manager, go to the platform-tools directory and start adb shell.
In the shell, type su, wait for the Superuser prompt to appear on the phone (if it does not appear, open the Superuser app and try executing su again), enable root access for the command. Now go to /efs, copy everything to for example /sdcard/efs, then rm nv_data.bin.
Reflashing the device with a kernel and checking “phone EFS clear” in Odin also works (make sure you made a backup of the EFS folder just in case).
3. you can try changing the CSC (to XEO for Europe): enter *#272*imei# on the phone tab. Note: this will reset your phone to factory settings, so make sure you did a clockworkmod backup before this. Incorrect CSC setting may cause MMS not working also.
4. check if you inserted the SIM card correctly
Thanks

No Network after change of CSC - is there a recovery strategy?
SOLVED
======
Asked around and it goes like this: 2.1 + market = no signal, (2.2 or 2.3) + market = no problem
Solution is UPGRADE from 2.1. to 2.2 or better - I hope this will help anyone else with the same problem.
If you can't do it yourself, any mobile shop will for a small fee.
Symptoms
========
Changed CSC from KSA to XSG with code *#272*HHMM# for 2.1 (no Market in KSA mode)
Galaxy S GT-I9000 now shows blue circle with diagonal in notification area at top of screen.
Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks Network mode > Network operators > Search Networks or Select Automatically produces no response - finds no networks.
Dialpad dial a number => "Not registered on network"
Coincidental hardware failure seems very unlikely but not impossible I suppose.
What I would like to know is if there is a recovery strategy from here?
Even if it includes installing a complete new firmware? (and possibility to revert to original if required for warranty)
Device does not respond to "3-finger salute" (volume-home-power).
I am not confident that a warranty is worth all that much in this part of the world. It may be quicker and more effective to do it myself.
Further details of history and phone info below.
I will be very grateful if anyone can help me out
History
=======
Phone purchased in Saudi Arabia (KSA). Worked fine with pre-paid SIM (mobily) voice, data, sms, wifi.
Phone also worked fine with a pre-paid sim (cosmote whatsup) in Greece - voice, data, sms, wifi.
However, since phone was purchased in KSA, Android Market was not installed. Found a Market.apk and installed that. Installs but doesn't actually work.
Found code for changing CSC (*#272*HHMM# for 2.1, *#272*[IMEI No]# for 2.2) 2 colleagues had success and no problems with this with a Tab and 2 Ss, albeit with 2.2. The code looks worth a try on 2.1 so I gave it a go.
Had to remove the side-loaded Market before the code would run and changed the CSC from KSA to XSG.
Market pops up on the screen and works fine.
BUT no network. Network name shows in the Notifications though. The GR SIM shows "(No Service)"
Factory reset, returning CSC to KSA do not help.
The mobily SIM works fine in other phones but no known good SIM works in this phone.
Mobily tech support (in store visit, usually commpetent guy who knows me) is completely flummoxed and asks me if I have a warranty.
So now I have a very compact WiFi only tablet

Solution to your problem
Hi All,
This happened to me before and I was as frustrated as you and when I was about to give up, I tried one last restoration, but only this time I did it correctly. After that, I restored 5 different versions of Samsung Galaxy S stock ROM back to my Samsung Galaxy S. One of these versions were Chinese, and everything was in Chinese.
Samsung Galaxy S had no signal was because the modem file was missing while you were performing the restoration.
Now, all you have to do is go to this page and follow the instructions to restore the Stock ROM back to your Samsung Galaxy S.
same problems
Hi guys, I have same problem. But a litle diffirent.
When I use 2.3.6 firmware version it's work well no problem. But when I use 4.x.x Rom it says no network and no imei. If I use 4.x.x om pluged the charge my device ,I see gsm company and imei number. It's very interesting. I think , electricty not enough for my device. Maybe Its hardware problems. I 'dont any idea.
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks.

IMEI does not change by flashing a rom. Your imei number either goes to "0" or stays the same, but never change.
Model does not change by flashing a rom.
LTE settings does not change by flashing a rom.
Where do you see your model changed?
Where do you see your imei changed?
Where do you see the phone is belongs to Sprint net?

It is still unbelivable that flashing a rom magically change the imei to a D820 model's imei and a sprint cdma account get injected to the efs.
Just think about what are the odds that it could happen?
Your phone is a second-handed phone. The motherboard got replaced with a D820 motherboard.

It was a D820 actually with the D821 patch . You can find it on xda.
Check the phone before you buy it.:good:

Hi i have a nexus 5 (d 821) and i'm trying to get it work again. It has no signal with a valid sim card. i am in europe.
I tried cyanogenmod ( it shows usa, japan automatic ) but no signal.
i tried lineage the same thing.
I restore it in 6.0.1 google img ( it shows only usa band ) but no signal.
i restore in 4.4 ( it shows only usa band)but no signal.
Is this problem software or hardware?? is there any rom that can make my phone work again?
I searched through the forum and cannot find any clear solution for nexus 5
thank u
Was the phone ever dropped or dismantled and put back together?
It finds no networks at all?
Sim card works in another phone?
Tried other sim cards in the Nexus?
If this is a 2nd hand phone device and a problem with other sim cards too, I'd check if the IMEI has been blacklisted by a previous owner?
it has some falls , but i dont think this is the problem.
at *#4636 menu it shows only usa band (original nexus rom) and auto us japan band in lineage rom.
I think that the problem is in software with the radio img, or else with antenna or motherboad as hardware.
i need the opinion of an expert to deal the software part,
the sim cards works on other phones...
Is the model number d820 on the fastboot screen?

ΤΗΕ phone worked fine in europe, last year the problem occured and since then i am trying to find solution.
Dear XDA members,
this is my first post, so please be a bit patient if I do something wrong
I got a very stubborn phone from some relative - he complained that sometimes the voice is fading during voice call. Otherwise the phone was working flawlessly, no other issues/trouble, was working across Europe. It was imported to Europe from Asia, which seems to have some importance, but we'll get there.
When I got it, the first thing I tried was OTA update - however there was some error (it still had 5.11 version back in December 2018). Not thinking too much (and not being aware about CSC codes) I got Odin and flashed it with 7.0 stock firmware. At first moment everything seemed fine, but after some time I inserted my SIM-card and I noticed that phone can't register to mobile network - then I tried another SIM-card from another carrier and result was the same. I tried to flash with few another ROMs with different CSC codes - but the result was exactly the same.
The IMEI and serial numbers reported by phone were in line with info on sticker and engraving on the back cover, but then I found that *#0011# shows IMEI Status: NG.
Wondering if the phone is not black listed I checked it's IMEI at imei.info web site and to my surprise it reported different Samsung serial number than the one on back sticker/cover! I opened back cover and I found that the phone has been manipulated, there's no sticker on the battery with phone info, but is some "Chinese" OK sticker...
I searched the XDA-forum and tried various fixes:
1) deleting nv_data from /efs partition in order to restore factory IMEI, etc., (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75927733&postcount=37),
2) flashing with combination firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-fix-check-drk-imei-issues-t3379516 tried both A and B methods),
3) downgrading to 5.1.1,
4) HEX editing efs partition backup to change Samsung serial number to the one reported by imei.info - I replaced sn in three places, phone reports "edited" sn, but I have no clue if it's not causing any checksum errors, I still have "original" backup,
5) repeating 1,2,3 with "new serial number",
6) installing NexusOS-9.
None of the above made it possible to connect to mobile network, checking with *#0011# after each of the above (except for NexusOS) still shows IMEI: NG
Is there any other way that could help that issue? What does IMEI: NG actually mean?
I checked with some phone repair shops, and none of them seemed to be equipped with Z3X-toolbox, at one place I heard that they can try to fix it, but give no guarantee of success, since the phone looks to be non-original.
As I wrote at the beginning - non-original or refurbished in Asia, the phone worked without any issues in few European countries, so I assume that IMEI is not black listed anywhere.
Thank you in advance for any guidance!

Background: I just got nexus 5 used motherboard (actually crashed phone with booting motherboard) to my phone with the damaged motherboard. However, the "working" motherboard does not find any operator services either on crashed or mine phone. I fastboot-flashed it with stock google's image including original radio image, cleaned it up with twrp, installed unofficial lineage os based on android 9 - it never worked. Even flashed KRT01B radio as suggested in one of the XDA threads.
It recognizes the SIM card (unlocks it after providing correct PIN code). However, neither before or after SIM unlocking succeeds in calling 112 emergency number.
Baseband version: M8974A-2.0.50.2.30. IMEI is correctly displayed. I am in Poland, T-mobile.
Could you suggest what more can I do? I don't know the history (either software or hardware) of this motherboard. Can it be hardware problem is there something software-based I can try?
Thanks in advance for any hints!
