Nebula is coming... - T-Mobile LG V10 General

I want to introduce myself. I am part of the Nebula team. We have decided the v10 offers us not only a great phone but a new challenge as well. We are currently looking at the the device tree to see what we can do to get some ROMs over here. You will see us posting more in the very near future. Until then cheers.
As requested the nebula team consists of:
Eliminater74 (aka the main man, the one who does the coding).
thewalkingdude(aka the P.R. guy, the one who does the talking).

So excited!!

Thank goodness.
I am sooooo thrilled to get that someone is finally going to Crack open the potential possibilities for roms with this phone. I took this phone over the note 4,note 5, 6 edge+. I will definitely keep my eyes and ears open. Thanks guys for reaching out to the v10 community.

Sweeeeet

Who do I bill for ruining my best pair of jeans upon seeing this thread? ?
So excited to have the Nebula crew with us. Let me be the first to say welcome! And please, as with every device, kindly disregard those that don't know how to read/search/comprehend that dirty flashing is the main culprit for telephonic STD's.

ROMs are not the main thing we do. We are known for our kernel. We took the g3 far past anything that was said to be possible.

I am use to people that don't read.

I have been hoping for some good kernal development since I got this phone!

Im ready to provide some $$ support ....... Im pretty sure there are guys that are interested in seeing speaker volume support as well as decrease in battery consumption. (well at least myself). But once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We looked at many devices. This has a lot of potential. I was shocked no one has tapped it. Look at our g3 threads and see what we are about. Our g3 community will include this group as well. Feel free to check them out.

Need to get a working Device tree. The Current device tree is No good.. first the CPU's are listed wrong....
second the Offsets are listed wrong..
also no RIL config.. and policies are possibly wrong too, but im no expert in that field........
So in my eyes, The whole device tree is garbage.. You dont have cm13 because of that device tree..
The G3 is much older device then the V10 and we have Cm13 going long time ago...........
and the G4 is a slight upgrade over the G3, they have Cm13 going from what I hear......
then the v10 is a super G4.......... and doesnt have cm13............. The CM maintainer for the v10 and G4 are one in the same...
but he managed to get the RIL for the g4 but not the V10........................ but he tells me he copied the g4 device tree.. Which is possible. but he missed
many files.......... the G4 copied from the g3 anyhow.. and thats cool.. thats what he should have done..... but always check your work..
I even went on the CM wiki on porting a new device and followed it for getting the offsets from the boot.img.. and none match the ones in the current v10 device tree............
So another mistake there...............
Biggest thing issue here is device tree.. Till we get a working device tree.. you wont have any good roms.................
I originally came over here to build a kernel.. I didnt expect that I had to build a new device tree for everyone............
I build stand alone kernels. meaning I dont need a device tree to build my kernels............. But what good is a kernel if you all are riding on
a bad device tree and old aosp stock kernel.................
So now, I am gaining some knowledge on all msm8992 devices and their trees.. trying to compare them....
I went solly off the N5x which has the correct settings for the cpu's... I would take googles word over cm's anyday...............
Every single CM's msm8992 device tree I looked at, had the cpus wrong............... Only google seemed to have it right............
and before someone says, well google and our aosp are dif........ Ill answer that now,
Fist off the CPU;s will stay the same regardless of CAF/AOSP or whatever else you can toss up.. a MSM8992 is a MSM8992 regardless.............
only things that will be dif, is the caf related things.. other then that.. its 80% the same tree..............

I am going to be straight with you all.. I can see your all hungry for custom roms and kernels for this device.. This device is a great device.............. Nothing wrong with it at all..
I am a kernel dev not a rom dev.. I stopped the rom building long time ago....... But the one person that I know which could have everything fixed and up and running for you
is @aclegg2011, Only problem is.. he doesnt have the cash to get a V10, He has a G3 and N5 and N6 and N7.................. This dude is Official Maintainer for Bliss and RR for the G3..........
He knows his way around the building process like no other.. His build machine is capable of building a full rom in 15 mins..........
Hes known to have fixed many of the CM mistakes.................. But the only issue is this, Unless he gets a V10 Used/new or cash to get one..... IT just isnt going to happen..
I will do my best as I can.. and hes already told me some things.. but he cant dig deeper into it, unless he has the device............
Im not asking for anything...... but im giving you all options............. Its all up to you now..........

If you guys are willing to donate 60 so I can get the phone, I can jump on board and between me and eliminater74 we can get some good things going for you guys.

I'm up for that, happy right now with my V10 debloated and xposed framework running. How do I donate?

Im also trying to get Dorimanx on board too.. Hes a very well known coder.. I talked to him today.. hes really thinking about it.. The guy is like a God on the G2 Kernel Development.
but hes a really good coder..... Im trying to put together a well known team.. We are getting there.....
And just so people understand things, Nebula is my Team Project that I started 10 months ago...... @aclegg2011 Is in no way affiliated with Nebula. But we work very close together...
Hes more of a freelancer.. But he knows his stuff........ I am just trying to get things moving for the V10........ I didnt buy the phone to steer it at .... I want to bring over the custom roms
and kernels...............................
My only issue now is, I never worked with aarch64.. So thats going to be new too me.............
Once I get going.. it would be easy street from then on.........

Whoop whoop, cannae wait. I've tried both of those roms on the s5, can't really say which one is better tho'.

Has Development slowed down!

Is it me or has development slow down a bit! It seems it started out strong and lately we haven't seen much aside from Faux and CM updating their ASOP roms.
I mean we don't really have any themers either! I know if I could I would make some!
Coming from the Vibrant there was a lot of themes and dev going on!
Now I know it's been less than two months, but the way it started out I thought we would have more going on!
I guess maybe everyone is waiting on the GB update when ever we get it!
...
we waiting 2.3
gonna be here on 06/16/11
I hope GB gets here on 6/16 that would be the best B-day present I could get lol
I have a replacement unit coming the 22nd, I hope it comes with 2.3 already in it!
...
There are lots of themes. CM7 uses T-Mobile themes and they are downloadable in the market.
No reason to mod stock unless you install the cm theme support.
LG G2x CM7 2.3.4
couple things.
waiting for the gingerbread source from lg to insure everything needed will work. and dont want to release a rom at this point where i cant tell if reboots , wifi, 4g(whre it shuts down than takes a while to start again), as well as gps.
when these features are working on the phone as should than ill start the rom, but no care to spend days trying to figure out why something doesnt work when its the darn baseband that i cant mess with.
themes. the theming engine has taken over unfortunately. it does theme and is a lot easier for the themers(after they learn it) since 1 theme works on all roms. but its just not like the old days where every app was themed and such. some have taken time to write scripts and such so they can make a better more inclusive theme with it , but most of the themes for it are color changes and icons not full themes with every app themed as we were use to . I know several of the themes that are on my rom for the droid would never be able to be as complete through the theming engine. but it does ok just different. and does enable many more themes available to all roms. and its not like a this or that themes can still be made the old way. but with the old way you need to update the theme with every new build(framework) of the rom so since these roms are in constant change at this point i dont think many are spending time theming it. especially froyo.
Honestly I can't speak for everyone but I have to many projects going on and I don't want to release buggy roms to you guys. I have not stopped working but I would love to see 2.3 drop as it would be (hopefully) more stable in general as they had time to get the bugs out.
Look at it like this the more time we have to spend working on battery drivers the less time we have making good roms. LG did not tell even close to the truth as this was supposed to be a true google experience (MY ASS IT IS) so we already had to spend countless hours removing BS they left it from the O2X.
Anyways look for more stuff soon I am sure as currenlty I am working on my rom again and I know of other hidden stuff getting done. (sorry can't say what all it is yet)
Later.

i was gonna do a quick port of my rom for my own use but when i looked at the source code for g2x froyo-- it appears al they did was remove the instruction sets for the overlay of the o2x all that crud is in the framework and elsewhere and just seemed like to much hassle, so waiting for the gb and hopfully a more stable driverset and baseband.
or keep the life i actaully have now that was non existant for the 9 months i developed for the droid 1
maybe ill just leave it up to you

Personally I say the more the merrier as I really do care about the end users. I hope to see more people jump in even if it is only a rom modded by adding removing a few things as everyone has to start somewhere.
Anyone can use my rom as a base all I ask is some credit or atleast send me a pm.
And I will always try to answer any questions as long as I got the time
too true

more options are good.
my rom was called sourcery so it kinda had to be from source
i am not with the co0developer of that anymore so id have to comeup with another cool name. but still rather do from source than others base , but might use lg gb as a base if they release it.(hopefully without all the o2x crud) or let us make use of it 1 or the other.
but yeah all the initial launch build was is a o2x froyo themed rom.
have you played around with the animated pull down stuff. looks kinda cool and on the g2x it shouldnt hurt performance much. kinda something new.
I would love to see another rom made from source. I have been working on a 2.2 from source but not even close to being release ready as buggier then crap
Anyways I am sure the crack flashers would love another rom to try out
2.2.2

2.2.2 i think is not as stable as 2.2.1 i lost 200 on quandrant with it not sure why but from 2.2.1 same rom same mods.
Over all its ok. i released the 2.2.2 rom 3 days after the source was released. did a serious rebuild from scratch since i was about ready to release the 2.2.1
i remember i had a couple bugs i had to figure out that werent on 2.2.1 but i forget what they were .
you have any questions or need a little help drop me a pm.
ill help where i can.
this is a link to my rom since i think only people on verizon have ever heard of it

@tweezit I for one appreciate all the work you guys put into supporting this phone. I know it takes a lot of time and hard work. If seems some of us are impatient it's only because we are. Seriously, you are making a great device better and I thank you for it.
@Eagle1967 Just checked your Rom out and I would love to see a port...really slick stuff there...great app inclusions and love the blue/black theme.
I'm wading into this myself...been playing around with it but any kind of release is at least a couple month away...if ever. Really makes me appreciate what you guys do.
thanks

when i started i knew nothing. i started in august last year was late september before i actaully got my first build that completed and installed and ran and first release was on christmas so took a long time but i started with no knowlege of any of it. still not always sure what i do to make it work it just does
yeah it took 9 months of my life part of the reason i stopped(part ).. but it was fun and made me feel like i accomplished something. i cant believe how popular the rom still is since i havent really done anything with it since febuary but it was the first custom rom with froyo 2.2.2 and actually was for quite a while until some gave up on gingerbread and went back i think there is still only 1 other 2.2.2 rom for the droid though.
if you have any questions feel free to pm me. ill help you out if i can.

Miui Rom!

I have been looking at the fascinate forum and noticed they have a new Miui rom that has more functions closer to a fully functional rom than they ever have. I was hoping someone could port this to the mesmerize
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120371&page=1
Trust me, I've had my eye on Andmer's twitter since Friday when he started it. I've got a thing or two I need to do tonight, but hopefully I can get this ported tonight.
EDIT: There *will* be stuff broken with it; anything that's broken with the Fascinate ROM will be broken with any Mesmerize port. They're still working on it (Andmer and JT1134), so it's still listed as an alpha, but enough people clearly want it.

So i what all is there that you have to do to port over a rom?
As I understand it, very little. Edit some framework stuff and the build.prop to identify as a US Cellular/Mesmerize device rather than Verizon/Fascinate. That's largely cosmetic. Remove the SMS padding the Verizon does, and that's more or less it.
As I say, I should be able to get it tonight.

"Porting ROMs" and "Porting ROMs from the Fascinate" are two different animals. Porting from the Fascinate is pretty easy once you have the steps (at least as I understand it), but everything gets ported over pretty quickly so no one really bothers to post the steps for it.
Porting ROMs from other phones, on the other hand, is a much more complicated process, often involving editing the source code before compiling it into the ROM. There really isn't a straight-forward step-by-step process to follow.
That's really why no one's posted the instructions.
I could I suppose, but I've only poked at it once or twice. I generally know how to do it, but I suspect I'll still be having one of the experts check my work. Still, one more thing off their plates, and MIUI that much sooner for us.

Wow. I really hope you were attempting to be funny because this comes off as incredibly ungrateful. The guy is attempting to do this for FREE and on his own free time. If he actually has a life that happens to take him away from being able to port this then good for him. If you're in a huge hurry to get it, then feel free to do some research and port it yourself. Otherwise sit back, relax, and be happy when it does get released.

Excitement is perfectly fine and expected. Asking for ETA's and requesting something "really really soon" just comes off as impatient and like you are owed something. Not attacking you, just something to keep in mind.

LOL It's all good, Life has just been really busy lately----but trust me, I've wanted GB MIUI for about a month now. XD To be perfectly frank, I'm still a little bitter I got so little help with it, banged my head against it for a month, and Andmer comes in in a *weekend* and gets it going. XD But I'm not complaining, cuz, well, I get GB MIUI. XD It just tells me I need to learn JavaScript and C++ and start compiling from source.
Again, stuff *will* be broken (this won't be my normal daily ROM until GPS is fixed, I MUST have my GPS), but I know Andmer and JT1134 are working on it (since it benefits JT's latest CM7 build as well).
I have to agree about the GPS... This is good news though. CM7 and MIUI are "almost" there now. Been watching and waiting for months on the progress of those.
I have been patient and I think not long off now, we will all be playing with fully working MIUI and CM7 ROMS...
Keep at it guys, I am rooting for you... (groan... root)..
Just a quick update: I won't get this completed tonight, but I did get a chance to start it. I need to bug BDE for some pointers, and hopefully hear back from JT on a code question. Even so, because of the way it's flashed (and how one must switch ROMs if they decide they want to go back to a different one), it'll get tested on IRC first before it's posted on XDA.
I won't get a chance to work on it tomorrow night for sure, but I'm hoping sometime during the weekend at the latest. Patience comes to those who wait as they say.

Hey, with CM7 (the old non-MTD builds) Jt added some code to the rom so that all we'd have to do is remove one line from build.prop to fix the SMS padding issue (and copy in a few files from /lib/ and 1 from /bin/ on a working AOSP rom). I THINK he possibly did this for the new MTD build too, but I'm not sure, but if so we should be able to fix it up quick. If not, l3ttuc3 is the one who has manually removed the padding in the past, but i'm sure others could help out.
i accepted your gtalk invite last night so just hit me up

so what are these files that need to be transfered? i can transfer those files myself from one rom to another. And i can look up and see what line it is to remove the sms padding possibly. I also heard there was some things in the framework that had to be changed but idk why and idk how to mess with those yet :/

What would you all like to see in the next rom?

So at the moment I am currently working on developing a "bare bones" stock rom and modifying it as much as possible with scripts and such.
But what I would like to know from you all is what would you all like to see in the next rom?
Cyanogenmod?
More themes?
Faster?
Battery life?
Cool features?
I think it'd be good to hear you all thoughts & input.

CM6 an CM7 have both been asked for in the past sadly i think the only way to get it is to mail one of the cyanogen developers a SK4g since it seams none of them have one to even begin making it avail on our phones by making the drivers an kernals from complete scratch like they have with devices like the nook. CM6 i don't know understand fully why we can't get because it is froyo based so the thing would be making a kernal (with out drivers in it from how much i understand building a android kernal). Then when creating the rom an figuring how to make it function more correctly with our odd frame work build. Honestly with themes if you got CM7 working that problem would be more or less taken out with the gingerbread theme engine they use in their roms which makes it a hell of alot easier to change how your phone looks.
Now to the people saying we need a kernal for gingerbread i understand that but then i do look at my nook color an I've tesed a ICS alpha build an have to say "um...... if a kernal is so godly important then how did they make one to run ics on a device that should never be able to run it that has bluetooth drives that were hand made because B&N never intended the device to have bluetooth an they had to hand make alot of other drivers just for the nook color. Anyways I'm getting a spare android phone in the next 10 days (xperia x10 mini) which is even capable of running gingerbread..... and has a alpha ics build.... am i missing something here?..
the kernel is what provides all of the drivers for the phone's hardware. The reason that it is difficult to build an updated kernel for the sidekick is because it uses hardware that isn't found in any other phones, and the drivers are only designed for the 2.6.32 kernel, rather than the 2.6.35 kernel required for GB/ICS.
The reason that ICS alpha builds are being released for the nook color and the xperia are because the CM devs put in the work to get the CM kernel working correctly. The CM kernel is designed in such a way that it can be updated quite easily with little breaking of drivers, but typically requires a large amount of rewriting drivers.
Basically, the reason that it came so fast to the nook color and the xperia is that the CM devs actually wanted those devices, so they bought them, and ported CM to them.
The fact is that the CM devs don't want anything to do with the Sidekick, and won't do anything with it short of someone handing them a free phone to work on.

is there any particular reason they don't want anything to do with the sidekick?
also, i assume we haven't tried collecting a glob of money to buy an sk4g off ebay or something... have we? seems like it'd be worth it...
I'm not 100% sure why, as I'm not one of them, but I'm guessing that it's because the sidekick is perceived as a teen/feature phone. Typically the support for Samsung phones is limited, and the amount of customization from Samsung on this phone compared to previous phones would require even more work out of them.
Basically in order to get CM7/CM6 it would require the CM dev team 2 things:
1: Interest/Willing-ness to work on the phone
2: A Free SK4G to work on lol
I like the idea of the community all pitching in on buying the CM dev team the SK4G just so that they can begin to work on CM for our phone. CM would open up so many doors for new roms and ports
If it wasn't for the some slight disconfort in giving away my SK4g I'd mail it to a CM dev for them to go crazy with it.... after sending it to someone that can make the sidekick unbreakable modded >.> I'm getting the xperia X10 mini pro cause I can find them for cheap (got mine for 125 after shipping) an it has a hardware keyboard. I'll gladly pitch in money for one of the CM devs to get a sidekick though if they are interested.
it'd be nice to get a feel for the likelihood of the cm devs porting cm to sk4g if they had a phone. that way we can get more concrete on whether we should raise funds for a phone to send to them. i tweeted cyanogen to ask, but got no response. maybe someone else can get to him or other cm devs?
i did posted in the cm forums someone in the xda forums made a bounty request?
and did any dev respond?
stock GB or ICS(cm7/9 would be fine too), better battery life (the current crop of roms are terrible), stripped down lite version would be nice too( no preinstalled apps just bare min)
No one replied

I think that none of the cm team want anything to do with the sk4g is that cyanogen himself didn't like the sk4g. So in result his cm team of followers didn't want anything to do with it. They would be embarrased to be caught with one. For some one that has worked on many diffrent phones like them, it shouldn't be hard to rewrite a kernel.
Think about it, they get cm on almost any new phone that comes out? Don't you think that every phone that comes out have diffrent drivers? Someone has to backwards engineer a driver to get a kernel out that's compatible with cm "roms". Its just a matter of having a member that knows how to code, cm isn't the only person in the world that know how to.
But then again this is just my opinion...

so pretty much we got swcred because of cm dislikement of the phone and his groupies don't want to get kicked out of their team so they don't do anything about it? WOW talk about tyrany

Yuup, even if it sounds rediculous, seems that way.

did cyanogen actually say somewhere that he didn't like the sk4g?
even if he did, why would he poopoo on another dev that ported cm to it? he'd want cm to be on as many phones as possible. "how dare someone do work that i didn't really want to do?" no. he's not some evil overlord with a bunch of peon devs who back off whenever he gives a stern look.. because.. OSS projects don't work like that?
also, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but they're not rewriting kernels. they'd have to update sk4g drivers for the cm kernel.

i know that they dont like EVERY phone that CM is on but they still "port" CM to as many phones as possible because that is their goal
i think that it could either be due to lack of interest or lack of not having the SK4G

I don't have the exact quotes, but they (the usual cm members) were reviewing the sk4g cm said he didn't like the fact that samsung made it, from there evry one weighed in on it..... source: it was on twitter. @koush @cyanogen and others, plus the retweet crap..

so b/c samsung made the sk4g and other galaxy s phones they won't port CM to the phones?
i think if we get enough community support by having a lot of us post on cyanogen's twitter and on their forums about it we could get possibly get them to port it

Vanilla ROMS?

I was thinking about getting an ATT LG G3 and was looking around , but do not see any Vanilla android roms.
Do they exist?
Do you think there will be a Lollipop rom that can be flashed to this device?
Thanks

No and yes. Once the official or leaked android 5.0 drops for either the international g3 or att g3 our devs will pump something out.

There are aosp roms available. It's just that a few things don't work at the moment (camera has been fixed recently but bluetooth still doesnt work).
The problem is the aosp roms are tethered, meaning you need a pc and adb to boot the rom. As soon as the bump devs release the necessary tools, rom devs will be able to "bump" the kernel and have it ready for flashing. By then you'll be able to download and flash normally.
I think the biggest reason why we don't see more custom ROMs is the fact that the Bump team still has not provided a website or other method for developers to "bump" their work. These guys do this in their spare time (ie they aren't working on this 9-5, 5 days a week). Apparently they are struggling to get their website up and running as it has become a magnet for hacking attempts. Hopefully they will be able to get it all sorted out soon!
Once there is a bump method released to developers, they will be able to really concentrate on the G3 and I think you will see a lot of work released soon after.

I ask this out of ignorance and not impatience in any way, but. . . . Why is the site such a rich target for hacking?

Because they found an exploit in the LG bootloader so it basically paints a target on their back? Those same devs have had other successes with rooting other phones and what not. They are in my opinion very popular in the Phone community from their accomplishments. I think this alone makes them a target which is ridiculous. Whether it be jealousy or someone trying to make a name for themself or better yet a foreign country being mad that Americans cracked the code who knows. Actually I don't exactly know why they are being targeted lol. I am just taking guesses. I am sure their is even a possibility that Team Codefire doesn't know. Either ways its a shame that it is happening but it will all get sorted out.
Wish d850 could at least get a tethered aosp ROM
I bet we see some by next week. The tree is out. Should be good to go soon. I bet this thing is a BEAST when its running something slim.

[CM] won't officially support!

CM is not too keen on Bumping their nightlies etc.....

Hi there, Let's be a bit careful about calling Cyanogen stupid here for this. I'll be 100% honest and say I understand their apprehension to having a device (their buildboxes) make external calls to a web service they don't control.
Can't say I blame them for saying no, either.
That said, it does indeed look like for the time being there will only be Unofficial builds available, which isn't a big deal. I'm happy to set up nightlies on my buildboxes too.
I'm hoping @invisiblek hasn't abandoned the project either, as he's extremely talented when it comes to getting this stuff working.

Wow..
Not gonna go read the entire Bump! thread right now, but wasn't Codefire thinking of making the process (meaning, I guess, the code) available to developers so they could bump locally?
Hi guys, let's not go off and freak out over this. Discussion is still ongoing, and even if CM doesn't decide to officially build for this phone, we still can have builds done externally by anyone who wants to do so.
Bump has an API that anyone can use as long as they have an account, so there's no reason to be upset.
Keep calm and carry on
Darn that's a bit disappointing. But I'm perfectly fine with anything; official or unofficial as long as it works.
I hope to build Pac for d850 soon! Sucks cm takes this kind of approach to it.

What I think is retarded is that Brint has no reason for not doing it. He's literally being a nazi-like figure just blocking it because he doesn't like it. I'm sorry, how does this make any sense? The worst that would happen is that the bump service (external site) goes down and the build fails. Brint, get over your ego...
CM keeps going down hill with stupid mistakes (like this). First with the One+ One; you gotta be invited to buy a phone? wtf? The hardware is already second grade at this point, who wants a One+ now when you get an N6?
I'll be happy with a solid AOKP rom or a pure Google Lollipop build with xposed/gravitybox
I'll wait to see how this plays out. Hopefully CM will become comfortable with the bump process. I can understand the initial hesitation since it requires something that they cannot control. If they end up not supporting it, honestly it will be CMs loss. The G3 is a very popular phone and there will be plenty of ROM choices out there. So if CM doesn't support it, I'll still have lots of options (and I'm sure someone will unofficially support it too).
Yeah that's really a load of crap especially seeing how Dan already had the script ready to autobump. It's not like it's really that much more work on cyanogenmods part or was Brent just too pansy to have a call out to another server.
I guess we will all have to annoyingly go download and update manually from the forums unless lg actually decides to release a legit boot unlock.
Yeah, I don't really get it!
Hmm, so it seems there be some sort of process they can use still. Keep your hopes up guys
Care to elaborate?
Regardless we will have unofficial with the devs (probably timmytim)pulling commits and upgrading it just as good.
