Hi there,
I am considering the Nexus S and wonder if someone would share their experience and knowledge with me:
Q1.What is the Nexus S call quality like using the stock Android?
I'd be grateful if you would compare this with another 'phone e.g
Samsung Galaxy S, or a Nokia 'phone, or an iPhone.
Q2.Does the Nexus S support USB OTG?
I would like to connect a USB device, like a SD or CF card,
to the device so that I can download items from my camera etc.
Many thanks in advance for all those who read this post.
Best wishes,
F

Coming from a 3GS, I've heard and been heard no problem whatsoever.
On the other hand, talking on speaker...you have to really talk into the speaker (next to the usb con) for people to hear you well.
Q2.Does the Nexus S support USB OTG?
Apparently it does! I have yet to try it and see if it really works...
USB OTG
If you have the cables and are still interested in otg, check out ezkeel's post and help him out by testing. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19926148&postcount=748
Does the N5 have a 11 pin USB connector? If so, do you think it might work with the Samsung Smart Dock accessory? I'm aware that I can use SlimPort to perform a similar function but there is not enough charge current to sustain long usage.

It seems like 5 pin connector

I have nexus 5 and by looking at the USB port it seems like it has only 5 pins and probably there are no pins on the other side of the plastic. Can not tell with 100% confidence unless I open apart my whole phone. But my friend has Galaxy S4 and looking at the top side of the Galaxy S4 I there is a small dent on the top side of the port whereas there is no such dent in Nexus 5 port so it seems that Galaxy S4 port in non standard but Nexus 5 is standard probably only have 5 pins. If this is correctly sadly we can not enjoy features like Samsung Smart Dock on Nexus 5. At the moment I am trying to achieve using Game Pad and Charging the Phone concurrently on Nexus 5 but probably it is not possible may be possible with some special Kernel, there is one such kernel for Nexus 7.
Hello,
right now I am a more or less pleased Note 3 user. The past days made me thinking about a switch to the Nexus 5. More and more reasons come up, mainly I don't use the Note features that often and I hate TouchWiz. I got my hands on a Nexus 5 and all I can say is that this phone is beautiful and blazing fast. Despite the obvious (smaller screen, no pen, smaller battery, etc) I want to ask you if the following works as good on the Nexus as it does on my Note 3.
I like to connect my phone via MHL to the TV and play games using a Dualshock3 controller in combination with the SixAxis app. Playing Asphalt8 my phone losses about 40% battery in about 2,5 hours (It's connected to a 1 amp. USB port of the TV). Games like Asphalt 8 run very smooth.
I know the Nexus doesn't use MHL but Slimport. And the SixAxis app should work, root implied.
Here are my questions.
1. Does Slimport suffer from a bigger latency than MHL?
2. Is the phone also charging on a Slimport connection? If so, same amount?
3. Is it possible to charge the Nexus via Slimport (if answer was yes on question 2) AND wireless at the same time?
4. Does the Nexus 5 support USB OTG (to pair the controller)?
Many thanks for your time.
Bjorn
This will help with your OTG question. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/LJeoF7AK1zU/6ZyI9gQLjIsJ

Thanks, this is the only questions that remains unanswered. Does anyone know?
It is possible to charge it while using Slimport, but that also can depend on which Slimport adapter do you have. I have some Chinese adapter with built-in USB cable, and it is working great...

Wireless charging will not work at the same time as wired charging. Also charging while playing games can lead to significant heat.
I would hold out if I were you. As mentioned, charging and game play are going to cause heat.
There are rumours of Amazon releasing a dedicated android console so perhaps, waiting is a good idea.
Na, these consoles suck. At least the ones that are already there. My Note 3 is way better than every existing console. And I think the Nexus will be to.
Im not talking about existing ones. but sure, if you want to stop playing every hour to recharge, go ahead

I've now purchased THREE USB OTG straight cables (not Y) that did not work with my Shield Tablet... Is there some sort of trick i don't know about? Some special kind of OTG cable i need to buy? Some setting i need to enable for it to work?
I've tested the cables both with usb keyboard, mouse and various properly formatted USB drives - none detected at all. They dont work either with my Nexus 4 phone or Nexus 7 2012 tablet (but i suspect those models dont even support USB OTG, so doesnt say much).
Can anyone point me to a straight USB OTG cable that actually works with the tablet?
Are you running the latest OTA , Android 5.1? The OTG is broken in this version. Try plugging in the cable while tablet powered off the booting up. You won't be able to charge tablet until reboot though.

Man, I updated while traveling for 45 days!!! Loss of OTG for thumb drives, hub connection, camera image off load, wired Ethernet....what a loss!!!any word on when they will release software that at least makes it fully functional again? Plus the constant app optimization every boot cycle..I am hoping their self driving cars and self cooking ovens and make believe cities get better attention!

According to their website they expect an update by the end of the month that should fix these issues.
I'm considering using an old (2012 wifi) Nexus 7 as an Android Auto headend, and plugging my 6P into it via USB. I can use an OTG cable between the two, but I can't seem to find any info on powering both. Is this even possible?
I just tested and I am able to charge both my Nexus 6p and Nexus 7 using a USB OTG cable.
