I'm considering using an old (2012 wifi) Nexus 7 as an Android Auto headend, and plugging my 6P into it via USB. I can use an OTG cable between the two, but I can't seem to find any info on powering both. Is this even possible?
I just tested and I am able to charge both my Nexus 6p and Nexus 7 using a USB OTG cable.

MHL cable doesn't work with the Nexus 5. You need a Slimport cable. When you plug in a Slimport cable, it works automatically (the display connected to the other end shows the same thing as the phone's screen), no app is needed.
The cables are not expensive, but get one which will power the phone also - HDMI display uses a lot of power, so this will prevent your battery from running down. I used the following cable from Newegg, Plugadget Micro USB HDMI Adapter SlimPort Micro USB 4K HDMI Audio Video Cable for Smartphone Tablets. It cost $14. However it took a long long time to get to me.
Hi guys!
I am just curious how much devices could the nexus 5 handle through OTG.
I am thinking of connecting a slimport device to put the screen to monitor, and connecting a mouse and a keyboard.
Is the nexus 5 capable for that? Using an active usb hub (get it's power source from a wall adapter not from the phone) will charge the phone? Is it even possible to connect multiple devices to the phone through an USB hub?
I have an odd issue whereby I cannot charge my phone with my wireless charger if data is being written to my usb otg , charging worked fine after I took out the usb otg. Any solutions? Thanks
Read somewhere on here before that someone else had the same problem with a mhl adapter. Don't think you can use anything in the port while charging wirelessly.
To my knowledge it can not be done. I know that with cyanogenmod and wired charging with a y otg cable work but not with stock rom.

Confirmed. I have a Meenova. When it's plugged into USB in usb-otg mode, my Qi charger won't work. Running Slimrom currently. Does it on both my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013.
coming from a nexus 6p which has a usb c port. can I use a regular c to c cable to establish a smart switch connection and transfer all my stuff to the new phone?

No. There should be an adapter that babe with your s8+ that turns the USB standard end of your s8+ charging cable into a USB type c connector. I think it requires the use of the stock cable to work.
Although I have not tried it the way you suggested yet.

I tried using that software when I came from my Nexus 6p and went to a note 7, it didn't work for me. They may have updated it, but it said the Nexus phones aren't compatable
Weird. I used a regular USB C cable to connect my Pixel XL to my S8+ and it worked fine. Same when I switched from the Nexus 6P to the Pixel XL.
Hello,
I have a Nexus 5 with Lineage OS 14.1 installed lying around. I want to connect an USB-HDMI Grabber for Livestreaming my GoPro footage while I'm outside. But I also want to charge my phone at the same time. Is there any Kernel, adapter or ROM you can recommend me, which supports charging the Nexus 5 while having a device connected via OTG?
