Hey,
I installed cyanogen about 2 weeks ago. So much smoother than stock 4.0, love it! I get a lot more program crashes than before, but it's worth it. A few questions though,
A per title, my picspeed wallpapers aren't as nice as they were before. They were much crisper, not zoomed in. I switched to the cyanogen background and it looks great. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong?
Just as an aside, is there a way to get s-note back? I miss it...
Finally, when jelly bean is finally officially released, will I need to revert back to stock 4.0 to get the update?
Thanks!
I'm trying to theme Touchwiz to look more, AOSPish
And would like some assistance, I have no coding skills whatsoever so I'll just be ripping stuff out of the systemUI.apk
I plan on changing those navbar buttons (God they look like crap)
The Quickapps flip button, to look like more minimal, maybe like the green dot Lenovo use to have on their HC tablets
And that blue divider on top of the NavBar (Why did they put that there.
And if anyone knows if its possile to change the panel that slides up, please let me know!
I'll get into it as soon as I get the latest version for the n8013 usa, (few hours)

IT IS TIME WE STOP BUYING INTO APPLE'S ISSUES WITH SAMSUNG & ANDROID. It is the reason Adobe stopped supporting Flash on mobile which we all like. TouchWiz looks a lot better than stock Android with the black app drawer. TW is just adds a transparent affect among other things plus the multitasking. Somebody should be trying to make stock Android and IOS look more polished liked TouchWiz.

That's the one good thing a about all flavours of Android they are highly customizable. As for Apple they make a great product don't get me wrong, but I think the main reason Apple is losing traction is because it treats is users like children, you can only have a cookie is mommy says you can

Actually, I think Apple is losing ground because better technology has been coming out at more and more affordable rates, and Android has been getting better and better each year. I know of a lot of people who went from the old Android (the crap, free ones basically) to Apple because of how ****ty Android used to be, compared to Apple. However, with the better, affordable tech that has been coming out, it's given people a chance to see how good Android is now, so people don't have this "amagawd, I'm computer illiterate so I must use Applez" mindset as much anymore.
Also, I think that Steve Jobs was a really great marketeer. Without him to convince people to love the new products.. I think people just don't feel as excited.

What the hell are you talking about?! I didn't see the OP mention anything about Apple or Samsung. This is a thread about making Touchwiz look more like AOSP. I don't mean to be rude, but if you aren't interested you don't have to read the thread.

I agree with OP I hate the blue divider on the nav bar, In fact, the nav bar seems to cluttered imo. Having the nav bar time out to the dots on every app would be a good work a round. If its a matter of theming im sure it can be done quite easily.
Wow! I thought this thread went completely ignored and got no replies.
So sorry guys, I had very little success and got discouraged.
I didn't know there was actually activity here.
I'm down for giving it another try though. (lol, I replied 5 months later)
@ckavvouras That looks awesome! Can you share how you did that please? Or share your systemui.apk?
@edirector What the deuce are you talking about?
@relldroid Yeah I think the faded 3 dots look so clean! But I just couldn't find the image in the roms I searched in.

So mates, what are the changes in 4.1.2 from 4.1.1? besides the 0.0.1

Two biggest things I feel like is the bluetooth and camera in call, neither of which really bother me, I just want the kernel source so I have something new to play with lol, although I doubt much has really changed.
it also changed the way the notifications works in the pull down.
when have a notification that can be expanded, it now has the easy AOSP style two finger pull pull down rather than what Samsung has going on now with the horrible pinch to zoom.

I'll just be happy when change those UGLY green and gray colors.. I mean we are in jellybean and they are using colors from gingerbread lol. It's sad because I honestly like the rest of the TW interface, samsung just seems to like dark, bland looking colors.

It really is too bad, with root, it takes me all of 3 mins. to fix the battery and toggles to the correct colors, I can't understand why Samsung couldn't either??

I know right? On my thunderbolt all I had to do was crack open an apk, switch the icons, bam done, and I made said icons with photoshop in no time. And if it was odexed, add maybe 5-10 depending on if everything works the first time lol
On a backend level, I really wish samsung would've cleaned up their kernel source some, there are warnings EV VER RE WHERE lol, the thunderbolt source wasn't near as bad. I'm not sure how the real kernel devs went about compiling theres, but I had to make a few changes to a few source files just to get it to compile. Thankfully there are people must smarter than me that had the same issues and found the simple fixes, all which would've taken weeks for me to trace.
I loved the green gray and blue colors from stock Touchwiz when I first got this phone but now I loathe them. As far as 4.1.2 goes, nothing too special it seems like, besides for maybe the bluetooth improvements.

the version of 4.1.2 I have also adds the Best Face feature to the camera (didn't see that listed in the updates specific to this phone, or I may be running some oddball version), either way it wasn't there in the stock 4.1.1 for me.
I do have an odd issue since going to 4.1.2, If I have my phone in my pocket and receive a phone call, I pull the phone out of my pocket accidentally touching the screen, I can not then slide to answer the phone call. I messed around and found a setting to answer calls by pressing home button, so I have got around it for now.
However I have played around more and discovered if at any point in time I keep a few fingers on the screen at once for a few seconds it seems to disable touch input all together and I have to lock the phone then unlock to get it back.... didn't seem to happen on 4.1.1 for me. Hasn;t caught me too many times but every once in a while it bugs the hell out of me.
Any chance the new update has the ability to change the APN or is it still locked down?
Thanks friends. I was going to flash the newest rpm and modem, do you guys see any improvements in signal strength?
Hi guys:
Just remind,
why we should update to nougut ????
I mean beside the new UI there are no sig. Changes .
Also, doesnt worth losing the root mods and all cool features of our stable marshmallow rom .
The new gui is no improvement but it DOES have some nice new features like downscaling your resolution to save battery and the screen filter.
i do like the new gui.
third party Always on display with double tap
new way of showing notifications in nougat
for me its a big improvement over marshmallow
I'm using NOva launcher so no idea if the launcher itself has changed
I don't mean to hijack the thread as such, I just don't want to start another thread for a similar question!
Is Nougut beta stable for you guys who have it installed? Very tempted to install it along with a pixel launcher apk
It's been a good 3 years since I last messed with my phone in this way. I miss it!

Stable to a point, it's usable daily, but far from Marshmallow in terms of stability and polish
Things like WhatsApp voice messages have problems with low microphone volume, Camera quality is worse particularly for RAW
Basically you can definitely tell it's unfinished and unoptimised

So I basically use my phone for gaming, phone, text, alarm and social media, occasionally the odd picture.
From what you say, I wouldn't notice anything that's too unstable. Is that correct?
I'm sorry for coming across like a complete noob, because I pretty much am. It's been 3 years (and 3 XDA accounts later!) since I last messed with phones in this way.

Seemed stable enough to do all that for a couple of days for me, although I didn't test the alarm, might want a backup alarm just in case if it's for work

I've used Google pixel edition2.x on my s7 flat almost a week now and im really loving it. Only problem i have is that i lost snapchat in the change, because of security in snapchat app i cant get around to login. For me it doesnt matter but for others it might.
Did any of y'all get sm-g930v update? If so can one of y'all follow the instructions in this thread to revert back to marshmallow with smart switch, and follow these instructions so all of Verizon s7 users can get an update.zip and get in on the nougat action?
First do this: I think if you took the beta update then go back to MM using smart switch you can install the galaxy beta program app and download the beta update again. Can someone that got accepted into the beta program on verizon try please?
Then follow these instructions to capture the ota update.zip

Any tip for a more clean userinterface and better costumization options.... i dont wan't animations, flashing, sounds, blinks and all bells and wissels everywhere and no whay to get rid of it.. i want a nice clean android the don't use 80% of battery and perfomance on useless ****.
I loved cyanogen mod on my samsund devices but i there is no final relese for the hh8 from what i have found.
// parabolan
@parra
You should've bought another device.
There are sounds and animations by default in cyanogenmod too, as on any other smartphone.
Latest cyanogenmod 14.1 (lineageos) doesn't even have support for theming yet.
That's everyone's issue with emui. Use these theme in this thread. Download and change .Zip to .Get then put them in local > theme
Open themes app and apply
Has no effect on location of buttons and layout
The sounds and animations are possible to be disable in every ROM! And they come active by default in every ROM!
So that's a "no-question"
The performance of the device, by default, is very good and you shouldn't have complains on that, specially if you come from an older device.
The battery is also pretty good, normally it lasts me a full day with some heavy use (not a lot of gaming, but there is no phone in the market that lasts long playing games!)
Besides the nice battery, the fast charge is great and very usefull!
But indeed, if you like to try and change ROM's, you bought the wrong device!
wait for emui5, you will love it..

I really think you should've researched your purchase before buying this phone; it sounds like something like the One Plus 3/3T or a Nexus would've suited your tastes more. Or just any device with a really healthy developer community.

Here is what I have to like about EMUI. While it is customized over stock android, it is also optimized very nicely to work with the Kirin processors and not to mention the dual-lens camera. From my experience, it is better than TouchWiz as TouchWiz gets slow as usage increases while EMUI is fantastic so far for me.
The sounds and personalization is in every stock ROM. If you wanted clean android, then you may have to pick Pixel but then again, Google themselves have said they are using a customized version of android in Pixel unlike Nexus. Again, that is a good thing as that helps OEMs (even Google) to optimize for the device.

Three thing I don't like about EMUI 4 is the notification shade, non sensical setting menu and no app drawer.
Luckyly I just got EMUI 5. It has nougat style notification, app drawer option and better setting menu. Last one still bugs me a little as a few setting still hidden under pile of menu.

EMUI 5, saved the day, it a realy nice android phone without the need for unlocking and rooting just to be able to use it. ill stick with the EMUI5 for now and use a samsung s5 and virtual machines in vs to run code. nice to have a phone thats actually a phone for a time and not a android andset thar sometimes can be used for voicecalls like it usualy endsup when tje modding goes overboard.
