I have been a loyal Samsung fan since the original Epic with keyboard. Since that one , I've had every single Galaxy that has come out, including the 6.
Everything about the S7 Edge is just about perfection. The only issue I have, is the fact that Samsung continues to use TouchWiz vs. going pure vanilla Google, but the amount of cosmetic changes ,thanks to Marshmallow, makes it tolerable, and the fact that we can disable bloatware, makes it a bit easier to swallow the TouchWiz pill.
So glad I ditched the 6 and went to the Edge S7.

only google and samsung service application remain ,remove the others will be safe.

Holy crap. That's insane.

Yeah I've got to say with the locked bootloader and all this bloat, my initial impression is not that great, unfortunately. Day to day use, the phone is not as fast as my GS3 running slim bean.
Screen and hardware are fabulous, but they really effed up the software this time around. Just went wayyyyyyy overboard. And locked bootloader? Come on now

Bloatware, in and of itself, is a justification for unlocking a devices bootloader and installing a custom rom. How much space is wasted?

I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something, but if you are going to disable all that Samsung software whats the point in getting an S4? It seems their software was the big upgrade this time around and the hardware less so.
It's more of a matter of form on AT&T's and Samsung's part.

I don't think Com2UsPoker, Adapt Sound, At&T Family Maps, ChoKUKor, YPmobile,TripAdvisor, BlurbCheckout, Match3VS, or most any software displayed in the screenshots are particularly unique to the GS4. I'm sure most of us will not lament the absence of the majority of the displayed list of applications. All in all, it's a rather rude of Samsung and AT&T to put all of that clearly invaluable software on a $700 phone, then make it uninstallable.

That bloatware is what is causing the lag online reviewers have been mentioning. If you disable/remove it, the phone will have no lag at all.
I'm hopeful to see some AOSP-based ROMS so I can remove the bloat known as TouchWIZ.

Being the best is debatable. Nevertheless if you want a pure stock experience, then you might as well get a Nexus 5 when it comes out. It will be unlocked, cheaper, and probably have better specs.

It would be hard to judge how many people there are in this community, since like myself, I would imagine most people who are here aren't talking, because there are no custom roms, and there is subsequently nothing to talk about.
The newness of the phone has nothing to do with the deadness of the forum. All devices that don't have custom roms have dead forums. You should check out the galaxy tab 3 forum, it's a hoot.
You could buy tdunham and rompnit S6 edges and I'm sure they'd be happy to jump over from the Sprint S5. Once they made a custom stock rom, the forum would be a lot more active.

we need some moar here! muahahaha
I think it would be different if Samsung only released 1 flagship device vs. 2. Most likely the masses are going to go for the cheaper device, especially if ordering online. But to see the edge in person, it's a different story! I swapped out of my M9 once I held this device! I just hope people aren't looking at the edge as "gimmicky" because it is different, but from the commercials I have seen it looks like they mostly show the edge as opposed to the standard s6.
Yes im also waiting for some action, its killing me not being able to flash a slimmmmed down TW rom. I cant wait to safely remove most of the junk
You should also give it some time. The device has only been out for a few weeks.
I have been checking everyday
But with no custom roms and rumors of knox tripping will make Samsung pay not work, I haven't even rooted

At least give me a recovery! Lol
Since this thread has some people posting can anyone advise what files I have to delete or overwrite in system/media for a custom boot animation?
SPR_bootsamsung.qmg and SPR_bootsamsungloop.qmg
Well, the fact that there isn't currently much development isn't always a bad thing. It may indicate that the phone is 95% of what people want and requires few changes. I moved from the S5 to the S6 edge and I'm in no big hurry to even root it. One of the reasons is the Samsung Pay thing. (I could care less about knox). I want to hold off a bit and see if this device can be rooted without tripping knox and potentially screwing up Samsung Pay capabilities. The only thing I miss at this point is the ability to do a Nandroid Backup and the Hotspot/Tether mods. I think battery life could be better but my experience with kernels and governers usually resulted in a lot of instability. I do in fact hope that development picks up eventually once Samsung has done everything they plan to do with this device. Once the honeymoon is over I'll be right there creating and flashing mods, but only to overcome limitations and make improvements. Not just for the sake of being first or just to have something different.
Im here!!
I'm so eager to get flashing.. I rooted cause I couldn't care about Samsung pay. Hopefully we get some action soon.

Looks like that list was published around Oct. 6th-ish, and the V10 wasn't available until maybe the 28th? So what I'm hoping is Tmo hasn't updated that list. If I'm not mistaken, there are no other phones on that list that weren't already out by Oct. 6th? Damn I hope I'm right anyway..... They can't forget this phone, can they?

I have an idea. Why don't we put a nice little nifty first things to do when you get root list together?
Debloating, tweaking, themes, etc.
Personally I'm excited for the camera mods we will be able to perform now.
Sweet
Wanting to keep OTA updates off my phone, but as I mentioned in a previous thread, when I tried to run AdHell, it wanted to use the Samsung FIrewall, which seems to want to update knox, so I've avoided it for now... I've heard other say to use "package disabler," but I see a couple different versions (e.g. Package Disabler Pro by PoliceDeveloper, BK Package Disabler by WakaSoftware.com, etc), so wasn't sure exactly which one was recommended. Another option I was thinking of would be maybe to just use ADB, as I think I could probably disable the 2-4 update packages that way as well. Thoughts anyone?

Maybe not in a separate thread, but it was definitely noted and mentioned before in other threads. It was great to hear Essential was committed to releasing the Q for this phone. As for the timeline, I doubt anyone would be able to answer that question, other than just trying to guess. Personally, I'd be more interested in the subsequent updates after the initial release - how many and for how long...

I agree with you about the million dollar question. Essential has stated from the beginning that we could expect updates to or through Q. What exactly that means is anyone's guess?
Going with a pure hunch, I believe that we will continue to see updates for quite some time. I have nothing of substance to base this on but it would be in their best interest. I think Essential runs real close to stock AOSP so I don't think there is much coding involved.. I guess only time will tell.

It's worth noting that we got Android P on DAY 1 of the release just like the Pixel phones. My bet is we get it the same way for Q. Patience...it will happen!
We actually started on release 2 of the P beta. But that's when they allowed other devices to join the beta for the first time. I'm betting we'll get release 2 for Q as well. Only thing I'm worries about is lack of root.

No problem! I was referring to the actual release of Android P and not the beta releases. We got the actual release on Day 1 just like the Pixel phones.
Personally I don't much care to take part in the betas because I need a stable device. I spent nearly the past three years (until July of last year) on an "un-rootable" AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 5. It made me appreciate being able to count on my device to just work the way it was meant to work. For the first time since my first Android phone, the Samsung Captivate, I stayed on the stock rom and I had to admit to myself that I didn't really miss root.
Please don't think I think badly about anyone that wants to run alternative roms or root their device. Not long after I got the PH-1, I was using invisiblek's Lineage OS 15.1 unrooted until the release Android P came along. That rom plus the neutrino kernel was rock solid for me for a while!
Like pie we will get the beta on second build . (I'm guessing)
Interesting read if I'm right.

Yeah, just read about that earlier... Sounds encouraging. :good:
I messaged Essential on Twitter. To my delight I got a reply. In short no Beta for Q now but that could change in the future. Essential indicated I should stay in touch with their social posts and website. I know there was no commitment but am glad the company seems involved in the phone still and follow their social feeds.
In case someone wants to try it...

I've installed it on my phone but unfortunately it really isn't usable now... WiFi, BT, sensors are not working there are also app incompatibility, especially with file managers. I guess we'll just have to wait for an official beta from Essential.

Well that's frustrating. I thought Treble was supposed to be more friendly than that. At one point Google said it would allow for like manufacturers such as Qualcomm to be able to use a driver update mechanism to address these sorts of hardware breakages. Like it could be a totally seamless upgrade path.

Well looks like its Google's fault at the moment. maybe because Q is still in beta. Many things are broken even for Pixel Phones.
