Native USB Tethering? Samsung Pay on AT&T - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Does the Tmobile S7 have an option to enable native USB tethering? Has anyone tried unlocking their phone to use on AT&T and try whether or not Samsung Pay will work?
Since I'm planning on buying this phone outright, I'd rather buy the Tmobile version and unlock it because of the reduced bloatware. However, Samsung Pay and USB Tethering are both critical for me.

Just use an app for USB tethering and Samsung pay should work fine

I use tethering to play league of legends, and if you have to use the workaround in root-less USB tethering apps then all data has to go through a proxy which will add to my ping irreparably.

Buy the international version you should be able to usb tether through the native hotspot I can't confirm on samsung pay on the unlocked versions

[Q] enable wifi hotspot

Please excuse my ignorance, I am very much looking forward to purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S 4G on AT&T.
I currently have a Nexus One and love all the features (tethering and wifi hotspot), now I found out that if I want to keep my features. I will have to buy an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S 4G just like my Nexus One.
<here is where I get all newbie>
Can I buy the AT&T locked and someone enable the above features and get around AT&T charging me and arm and leg?
thanks
Well the sgs4g comes with the option to tether...its on settings, wireless and network, tehtering and portal hotspot, mobile AP...all you do is activate it and it works...just dont go over your data limit and i think you should be fine

I have an unlimited plan, but according to AT&T, if I attempt to activate the option, there will be an 'account' check and it will determine that I do not have the tethering or Wifi option on our account. My wife has the ATX and she is not able to use either, unless you calls AT&T and asks for the feature in which will cost a ton of money.
My Nexus One is unlocked and I think (again.. I am a newbie) that is why I can use it, so.. will the AT&T SGS4g come unlocked when I buy it from AT&T? (i don't think so), so ... how do I proceed?
I think .. I am going to really like this phone, just do not want to looks the features that I use from time to time.
If you do manage to unlock your device to permit the hotspot feature and AT&T discovers this, they may attempt to charge you for it. I would recommend switching to T-Mobile if you want to use that feature without ridiculous charges.

download Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot on the play store. Works like a charm. Just make sure to Enable and Disable within the app and don't use the built in hot spot enabler.

this didn't really answer my question though.I have a unlimted data plan will i get charged if i used this feature on att ..when i had a iphone 2 years ago i used a jailbroken app to wifi tether and att show how found out in there system that i was doing this and they wanted to charge me 30$ dollars for a tethering plan so i gave them hell.Thats why i ask ......
just use the application foxfi in the market its onsale right now for 2.99 it works without root. at&t wont recognize ur tethering unless u over 5gb of data limit I believe. been tethering for free without paying more
edit: and yes! u will get charge when you use the built in hotspot on the s4 before u use it.. theres a lot of free and paid applications that bypasses that tethering in the market. root or not rooted device

Unrooted tethering

I have a 60+ year old friend who no longer has Internet, but uses her galaxy 10. She has a laptop she would like to tether to her galaxy.
She does not want to have her device rooted, so what are my options in helping her?
Thank you

Foxfi(may have been renamed to pdanet+) on the phone, and Pdanet on the laptop. Just be careful, some people have had their data throttled or they have been dropped by their carrier for circumventing the tethering fee. I only mention this because you state that it will be her main source for the internet.
Thanks. I'll mention it to her.

I've had luck with tethering to my laptop and not getting heat from my carrier. However, I'm running. Chrome OS from an SD card when i do it. Both AT&T and T-Mob have sent me warnings on a Windows and Mac computer. Just a suggestion on bypassing that hassle w/o doing a major overhaul on an operating system.

If she has an N8000 i.e., the 3G (International) model, all she needs is "directions"
Settings->Wireless and Network->More Settings->Tethering and Portable Hotspot

Mobile providers often have provisions added to their device's OS that inhibit tethering via the built in method, which will need root to freeze/delete said provision. Hate to be the bummer, but that's the breaks. Our goal here is sans root, so the PDA net/ foxfi route may be their best bet.

Yes, but the only N8000 variant that does this is the Verizon Note 10.1.
I'm aware. But the fact still remains, the built in tethering option is usually blocked by the mobile carrier(Mobile or tablet, still android. OS). When i had my Fascinate, tethering was out of the question w/o root.
Of the question unless i gained root a be flashed a different ROM,

We're talking specifically about the 3G Note 10.1; if its not the VZ model, there's no "carrier" to get in the way. They usually don't screw with OS features outside the US.
Edit
Afronicus said:
Right... Which leads me, again, to my point: a mobile carrier ( Verizon in the states ) may (will) block the built in tethering capabilities of the OS. Doesn't matter who is the carrier for your data on your tablet, they'll want to collect on your unsanctioned tethering. Your wi-fi tablets will not have the ability to function as a hot spot. You've either got a 3g tablet(which could tether ) or wi-fi tablet. Get what I'm saying? Is not about model (is irrelevant overall, you'd know if your tablet had mobile data or not.) but about the capability of tethering that I'm writing about.
But more importantly, have you (OP) been able to help your friend?

She's been hesitant to mess with her "contract", so we've not tried anything.
Thank you for all of the suggestions

Does AT&T charge for wireless tethering without a plan & is there a way around it

Does AT&T charge for wireless tethering without a plan & is there a way around it
So I'm new to At&t and from what I have read around other forums is that the option is available but if you tether to much they will start to auto charge you a wireless tethering fee.
Is there a way to bypass the carrier WiFi tethering check for AT&T?

I posted a reply to a similar question on Reddit under /r/nexus5 but I haven't had a problem on either my old S3 or my Nexus 5. I didn't look too much into whether or not rooting and a custom rom played any sort of role in avoiding tethering costs, but for just over a year, I haven't had any problems.

Wifi Tether

Anyone know how to get wifi tether working? I have crickets unlimited data plan. I'm trying to tether my laptop..
Yes, follow these steps to start Wifi Hotspot/Tether:
Go to Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot
Select Portable Wi-Fi hotspot
Toggle the button beside your host name.
By this you'll get your hotspot on.
I hope this helps you.
This doesn't work. Says I have to dial 611 to activate..

I am pretty sure that Cricket doesn't include tethering with their monthly plans.
So I would have to do it the root way then.

It's doing the carrier entitlement check. I can tether with another overseas phone out of the box on Cricket UDP. In fact I tried before typing this just in case there was a recent change
Thanks for checking this, that's a dealbreaker for me.

It's only avail on their Pro and Smart plans, and I think only supported on a few phones that they publish.
Cricket does include tethering on their plans just not on their unlimited. If you have the $50 or $60 plan you are eligible. But you also have to pay $10 to use the feature. They state that on their site.

And the idea here is to have a phone that bypasses the carrier tethering check. I'm really surprised that it's on the H 8.

Honor 8 Cricket WiFi Tether Fix - No Root
I have a brand new unrooted Honor 8 (with all the latest updates) and I was able to turn on tethering however connected devices were not getting internet. The devices would connect to the tethering WiFi access point but would state "No internet".
I added the string: 'dun' to the 'APN type' field in my APN settings so it read:
APN type default,mms,fota,hipri,supl,dun
I am now able to tether successfully without issue.
