Anyone know how to get wifi tether working? I have crickets unlimited data plan. I'm trying to tether my laptop..
Yes, follow these steps to start Wifi Hotspot/Tether:
Go to Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot
Select Portable Wi-Fi hotspot
Toggle the button beside your host name.
By this you'll get your hotspot on.
I hope this helps you.
This doesn't work. Says I have to dial 611 to activate..

I am pretty sure that Cricket doesn't include tethering with their monthly plans.
So I would have to do it the root way then.

It's doing the carrier entitlement check. I can tether with another overseas phone out of the box on Cricket UDP. In fact I tried before typing this just in case there was a recent change
Thanks for checking this, that's a dealbreaker for me.

It's only avail on their Pro and Smart plans, and I think only supported on a few phones that they publish.
Cricket does include tethering on their plans just not on their unlimited. If you have the $50 or $60 plan you are eligible. But you also have to pay $10 to use the feature. They state that on their site.

And the idea here is to have a phone that bypasses the carrier tethering check. I'm really surprised that it's on the H 8.

I had to set the APN Type to
default,dun
to get hotspot to work. I'm using FreedomPop Global GSM.
Anyone bypassed the tethering on att, I am starting to hate this freaking phone telling me to call 611 for another tethering plan, I should have keep the OnePlus 3t
Honor 8 Cricket WiFi Tether Fix - No Root
I have a brand new unrooted Honor 8 (with all the latest updates) and I was able to turn on tethering however connected devices were not getting internet. The devices would connect to the tethering WiFi access point but would state "No internet".
I added the string: 'dun' to the 'APN type' field in my APN settings so it read:
APN type default,mms,fota,hipri,supl,dun
I am now able to tether successfully without issue.

do you see mobileAP and Tethering?
ATT allows it if you pay them money. Or you can root the phone and remove that one apk and have your tethering for free.

Nope:
1. Unlimited plan does not include any tethering
2. Tethering data plan is limited to 4GB only and you need pay $45/mo for it.
If you didn't mess with Tethering Manager, you will not be able to connect your laptop to the internet without paying for the tethering plan. That's what Tethering Manager does (to verify that you have paid for tethering).
I just root the phone, erase the tethering Manager, unroot the phone and I still has the tethering available using USG or wireless. My plan is only 2GB.

Im surprised people aren't revolting about tethering plans. Imagine if you had to pay your isp more money to have a 2nd or 3rd computer connect to your router to access the internet at home, people would scream bloody murder, yet in the mobile world its ok?

Tethering plan is nothing new. If ppl would revole, they's have done it long time ago. The only ppl that paid extra for tethering are probably those paid by company and don't care how much it costs. Work arounds has been there as long as there are tethering on Smartphones. Compared to what text message costs you, tethering charge is little potato. I see a lot ppl have not problem drop $20 to $30 a month for text messaging plan that uses almost no resource (idle bandwidth only) on carrier.

Even if you are disabling Tethering on your phone, which I do because I don't use my phone that way, you want to uninstall/freeze or otherwise disable the Tethering Manager. I found that on my phone, the Tethering Manager was starting and force-closing (twice!) every time I booted the phone and every time I plugged in or unplugged the USB cable. EVEN with Tethering disabled in my phone settings.
I think in almost all circumstances, you want to disable the tethering manager.
I just got mobile hotspot unlimited on both mine and my wifes phone with feature code #76153.

Plus, I have 2 free wireless tethering apps, sure the speed sucks but I'm fine with it

I use my phone as a Mobile Hotspot quite often on my other phone and just wanted to confirm for anyone wondering it works fine for the One S.
I don't have a tethering plan with T-mobile and the default mobile hotspot is working just fine. No changes were needed.
Update
I take back everything I said before. When I picked up my One S the sales rep switched my data plan and didn't tell me. I was moved to the $35 plan with tethering.
I called in and switched it back to the preferred android plan and can no longer tether the phone.
It looks like T-mobile also locked down the APN's on the phone. You don't seem to be allowed to switch or change them on the stock rom.
With the phone rooted I'm able to use: WiFi Tether for Root Users that you can get at the link below.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk&can=2&q=
T-mobile will usually let you hit an amount and then give you a message that you need to upgrade. The new 5GB and 10GB plan include tethering though.

I have heard this before. I've heard 200 MB is the "courtesy limit". I'll pull down 200 MBs right now and see.
The one s has a block on it.. If you don't have the tether on your plan. it will let you connect but you can't view any web pages but the t-mobile one, letting you know you need to add the option. Also right now you can get it free if you have the 5gb plan. Does not work with android preferred plan .

I have an Android Preferred Plan and using the default mobile hotspot I just downloaded 220MBs from drop box and was surfing the web on my Nexus One that was tethered to my One S
I hope that we can just flash over the international ROM on this phone.
Root it and put ad block. Then it would be perfect.

That's the answer I wanted to hear!
Am I the only one that has been blocked because I don't have the wifi tether on my account? Anyone else on with the android preferred plan able to connect? I did find a work around. a app called wifi tether works great for me
Is Wi-Fi tether still disabled on T-Mobile for Android version 4.4.3?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Premium HD app
It was disabled on 4.4.2? It worked for me then on stock ROM. I'm on 4.4.3 I'll test and get back to you.
Edit : on 4.4.3 rooted stock I set my mobile AP on my Nexus 5 to WPA2 and used my Kindle Fire to load Google.com and it worked. I have T-Mobile LTE and 1.5GBs of tethering allowance on my account.
In short, its not blocked on 4.4.3 nor was it before.

Are you referring to tethering while using a T-Mobile plan that does not have a tethering allowance on it? I am looking into this too. I have only been able to get the "free 100MB tethering" that is included with my Unlimited for $30 plan with T-Mobile. Now that I have flashed the factory image for 4.4.3, I am going to try tinkering around with this again.
always has worked here, no tinkering.
Look up the previous thread/topic for tethering block - simple "edit" to settings.db using (free App) dSQLiteManager, save changes & move back to /data/data folder per instructions - after making backups, exit & reboot and good to go. Change APN settings to IPV4 and not IPV6.
The new T-Mo UpSell screen pop-up gone & profit / enjoy ! Stock's rom built-in WiFi Hotspot works fine - the restrictions is on T-Mo's end.

Dunno. The built-in tethering has always worked for me, but I would quickly hit the 100 MB limit. Works here, Nexus 5 running 4.4.3 on T-Mobile. Especially after adding the settings.db.
Yes, I'm talking about using Wi-Fi hotspot without using settings.db and changing the APN. I had to use this method in order to use wi-fi hotspot when I was on 4.4.2. I'm just wondering if this method is still required on 4.4.3 in order to use wi-fi hotspot on T-Mobile if you're currently not on their wi-fi tether plan.

I don't think those settings are required anymore, even with the $30 prepaid plan. After a clean install, I was about to do the tether_dun_required/IPv4 changes as before, when I realized that USB tethering was running fine out of the box. Either Google, or T-Mobile (more likely) fixed the issue.
I was using Foxfi to Hotspot my Verizon Grandfathered UDP .... I Just got the Galaxy S8+ and found out the hard way that Google(nougat), Samsung and Verizon teamed up to kill Foxfi's Hotspot hack. Until we have an unlocked boatloader. root or another working exploit, Hotspot isnt going to work on the Galaxy S8..The good news is I was able to find a decent workaround with an app called "Net Share-no-root-tethering" from the play store... It uses Wifi-Direct to share your phones data plan.. It does the trick and I'm able to share my data plan with other wireless devices.. I was literally just about to return my S8+ rather than wait weeks or months for the devs to crack the vault.. Hope this helps ease the tetherless pain while we wait for a new exploit ..
Edit: Please note this is not an equal substitute for native Hotspot.. I found the speeds to be much slower, but for basic internet use like checking email, and web surfing the connection was adequate.

Yeah my Galaxy s8 plus also lets me toggle hotspot without telling my that I need to be subscribe. I have unlimited but I never bought the hotspot plan. Would using the hotspot show on my bill?
Weird since I have Verizon with the Unlimited plan and hotspot does not work, even though it IS included with the plan. OP's app is garbage tbh, I get 50+mbps on speed test on the phone but on my computer I can hardly get above 10. Something is being lost in transmission and it isn't the fault of my PC. Is Wifi direct trash or something?
My phone also tells me that I need to "Subscribe" to the Hotspot feature at Verizon but it is already included in my plan, what gives?
Haven't tried this yet but hope it works on my at& t.

Anyone have any help for me? Thanks
