Hi all!
I received my Galaxy S7 Edge from T-mobile today. I am catching a plane and plan on playing with this thing quite a bit! I should have internet to browse the forum and monitor the thread. If you have ANY questions, ask away. Happy to answer or test things out. Currently, the device is incredible. Butter smooth. Touchwiz is far better, for me, on Marshmallow and I am happy to have Now On Tap. I am coming from a Note 5.
Model Info:
Model Number: SM-G935T
Android Version: 6.0.1
Baseband Version: G935TUVU1APB6
AP: G935TUVU1APB6
CP: G935TUVU1APB6
CSC: G935TTMB1APB6
FTA SW VERSION: G935T.001
Questions asked:
Q: How does the Note 5 compare to S7 Edge in size and handling?
A: Quite nicely. Originally I hated the sharp edges on the S6 Edge. I loved the Note 5 curved edges and focus on handling. The S7 Edge feels better and the screen is gorgeous. The device is light and doesn't get too warm, except during setup. I am able to type with one hand and I have medium size hands, maybe more on the small side. Love it so far, compared to the Note 5.
Q: How is the "always on display"?
A: It's actually a feature I love. I always wanted a feature like this, but the battery drain was a concern. Initial testing, it doesn't drain the battery very much, if at all noticeable. Marshmallow also helps with battery life. The always on display is informative and clean. Looks great on a black device as the entire front of the phone is dark except the white text.
Here is a video of the quick unboxing and I plan on updating with a new video on first impressions and answering some popular questions.
Thanks!
I thought the release date was march 11?

Hey. Nothing shows up when using *#1234#. Just get an "unable to process". I'll see what I can do with the Samfirm tool.

That is the official date available to buy in stores. T-mobile is great at shipping out once their stock/inventory arrives. Samsung also isn't so strict to refrain any devices from arriving to customers before official date.

Can you say if the sd Card Slot is USB 2.0 oder 3.0? I am Not sure if there is an advantage in using a u3 sdxc Card Or if a u1 Card is fast enough

I'm not sure how to tell if it is 3.0 or 2.0, to be honest. If you can point me in the right direction I can let you know. I don't have a u1 to test against the u3 for speed. I'll ask my business partner if he has something I can try.

Great question. The scanner is fast. I do wish they would allow unlocking with finger without pressing button while screen is off. So far it's been very reliable and snappy.
Audio quality is great. What was expected. Nothing concerning and nothing mind blowing. Clear crisp audio and output.
Speaker phone has been awesome. Call quality has surprised me and I've been very happy with it. In a noisy airport, the other caller could hear me crisp and clear without added background noise.
Jank and smoothness
Congratulations on being one of the lucky ones to get your phone early :good:. I see that you had/have a Nexus 6P...can you comment on how the smoothness of the UI is compared to the Nexus 6P? I'm interested in knowing if the scrolling smoothness in chrome and just in general are in the same neighborhood as the 6P and if you've seen any of the nefarious "jank" that samsung seems to suffer from.
I know I know, the first rule about samsung jank is that we don't talk about samsung jank but lets get it all out on the table here .
Neat video thanks. I have a co-worker who has a s6 edge and they are such beautiful phones. Still trying to decide whether I'm going to get one or wait and see if they make an edge + or note edge with a little bigger screen. I hope they make one a hair bigger. Using a Nexus 6p now and I love it and it's 5.7 came from a Nexus 6 which I loved also and that's 5.96 so used to the big screens. I'm going to go look at these in store and see can't be much difference in 5.5 vs 5.7. Anyway thanks for the video. It's a pain in the butt to hold camera and do a video. Been there before.
Ps: @ op I see your a fellow Houstonian. Me too but I now live in San Antonio. Always cool to see people from the hometown on xda. ?
Awesome! I got mine yesterday!

Sorry for the short reply. Catching a layover and taking off soon. The UI is smooth. It's TouchWiz and I was never a big fan. However, this version doesn't intrude or cause any issue. I am starting to appreciate the added features compared to a very bare stock experienc .
There wasn't much junk actually. Some carrier stuff and Samsung but no crap games or added bloat. Was happy to see that.

How's responsiveness?
Preparing to replace my Note with either this or the Z1.
Just wondering:
1.) How is lag and hangs on the Note3? Did any show up while you are using it? Preferably while you are doing the benchmark or under heavy load.
2.) How about accuracy of the screen? The note is off by a few pixels how about this? I think this was well documented problem on the note, I'll describe it if you are not familiar with it.
3.) Touch responsiveness? The note is slow on the lockscreen when you have pin lock. Try something like 160425 as your pin (no that is not my pin, I just randomly chose a 6 digit that can take advantage of both thumbs so you can press them very fast one after the other with preferably 1-2ms lag between each press), then press them 1 after the other very fast preferably on 2handed use. A lot of the times 1 of them won't register or will register wrong for the Note1. How about the Note3?
I'm a bit of a power user and the lag on the Note is annoying and is still laggy even after being rooted and flashed with slim bean. Just wanted to hear your take on the note3. As this might be the tie breaker for me.
I'm very disappointed with the Note (I wanted to throw it away after 6months of use but is under a 2yrs contract so... yeah) Mostly with TW and the screen, I even have ghost presses on the screen (luckily it was replaced while in warranty). So kinda want to stay away from sammy this round but between the Note3 and the Z1, the Note3 has the advantage of 3gb ram and 32gb storage (I'm on smart and I'm sure they will only have this version) on the hardware side and sammy usually have the bootloader unlocked, I expect this one to be the same while the Z1 will have it locked and I will lose a lot of the built-in features for unlocking it. But the lag on my Note is a big downer for getting another sammy that I'm willing to fore go the advantage of sammy for sony.
Thanks =)

Most probably your correct on the estimated launch price as Samsung will be selling the 32gb variant unlike before where they launch the 16gb for note2. Personally, I really prefer the 32gb and I'm very happy that Samsung decided to scrap the 16gb variant for note 3. Please update us on any new details with regards to launch date, venue and most especially the reservation of units.. Thanks and more power to you! :fingers-crossed:

1. with the new proc i found it snappier than the stock tw from the s4 variant. i dont usually benchmark tests since they are not that reliable but if there's one i use 3dmark (scores excellent almost above the Sony z1 line)
2. the accuracy of the screen has vastly improved from both the note 1 and 2 (which both i also own)...the pen is precise and pin point
3. touch response is excellent and the whole screen now even those at the sides of the bezel can be touched controlled as well...
i have almost all the galaxy lines of samsung and the note 3 delivers even on stock...what more if you can mod it, too much potential

I've had my tmo s3 for a little more than a year now and it's still going strong and I like it but I'm thinking of possibly buying a nexus 5. Looking at used ones but also considering possibly getting it brand new from Google. Have any of you upgraded from the s3 to this? Would it be m much of an upgrade? Just wait for another 6 months for the nexus 6?
Aside from possibly the camera...and no SD slot.....yes, a huge upgrade. IMHO.
I just came from my GS3 to the N5 and the difference is night and day. Even with a KitKat rom on my GS3 it isnt nearly as fast and smooth as the N5.
Not to mention N5 roms are nearly bug free.
You do lose the SD card as mentioned above, the camera (I think) is a little better quality.
Battery is way better.
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking I'd wait for the lg g3 but it seems like the g2 is difficult to unlock and root, at least when it has 4.4. I have been using KitKat on my s3 for so long I don't think I could be happy with anything lower. The s3 is good but after I've been using my n7 for a while the Samsung feels slow.

You won't be disappointed with the upgrade. Went from i747 to N5 and everything is so much smoother. Keep your s3 with a proven rom as a backup but don't expect to jump back to it once you feel the difference in speed and reliability of the nexus 5.

One and half month back I had the same confusion regarding this.
But after switching to N5, I am quite happy than before, until and unless you experience it you wont understand the differences of its software and hardware from S3.

Please don't troll.
"better" is subjective. Samsung cannot make a touchwiz device that doesn't lag. All of us who have had Galaxy devices know this. The s5 is no exception. The OP did not mention the S5. If he wanted an S5, he would have posted this in the S5 forum. Lets try to stay on topic please.
For sure they are two different "worlds".
If you seek speed of light and high rate of updates then you should go, for sure, of N5

That's exactly why I was looking at the n5 and not the s5. I found a 32gb black nexus for $315 on swappa so it's on its way now. I know the s5 has better stats on paper but it would also ruin any warranty if I rooted it ( samsungs counter). I like experimenting with different roms and I haven't used tpuchwiz for months. I know the n5 isn't exactly new but it's new enough that it should get the next update version of andriod.
I came from the Note 2, which is similar spec to the S3, and here’s what I miss the most:
-Wolfson DAC: With DAC Direct, audio sounded far superior on Note 2 (the reason audiophiles love Samsung phones)
-APT-X Bluetooth Codec: Again, sounds far superior to standard BT audio
-Phase Detection Auto Focus: For fast focus lock. N5 uses contrast detection, which is why it’s slow to focus
-Camera voice commands: Handy when taking photos of the kids / pets etc
-Expandable Storage: I would have liked the option to use my own SD cards, however I have bought a USB OTG SD card reader so this point is moot now
Apart from that I couldn’t be happier with the N5, and am actually happy to be rid of all Samsung’s gimmicks and so called “features”.
So if you haven’t already, go for it!
Another question, I've read that google slightly changed the n5 after complaints about the speaker, is there any way to figure out if my used phone I just bought is one of the originals or a modified one? I know there's nothing I can do either way, just curious.

This might help identify what model you have:

I believe I have the "revised" model, but the speaker still sucks.
In fact, I should have added "speaker" to what I miss from the Note 2 in the list above

Nope, its complete BS. Some have little holes some have big holes. Some have softer soft touch, some have yellower displays. It's not a revision. It is not a concious decision.

I'm new to the N5 so wasn't aware of any of these issues until I read about them today, so I just posted the first link that appeared in Google regarding the "differences".
Good post though, hit the nail on the head regarding tolerance, human error, and everything else really.
Like yourself I have light bleed, but I can live with it as it's only noticeable when it boots up.

Hello friends,
Here for a few suggestion and I mean genuine Please give ur feedback and experience
I have been here since long time, it's kinda a passion for me to upgrade to new phones. I am currently a user of Galaxy S4 just got an invite from my friend.
So willing to buy OPO but read that it has call issues and camera is very weird. Camera is almost same as of S4 both 13 mp but I want the users to speak out.
Help me out as the invite expires within 15 hours.
Regards
I love my S5 and I've had a Galaxy device since my S2.
I received an invite from a friend of mine for a sandstone black 64g $359 shipped.
I've not unlocked bootloader yet or rooted it and I've had a couple small issues but overall a very fine device especially for the money.
Its a lille smaller overall than the Note 4 display is very nice and its a fast phone.
Already a ton of development for the OneplusOne and although there are small things I miss from my T/W S5 I'm satisfied. Of course I still have my S5 and not about to get rid of it LOL I feel the OPO is worth the money.

See I am on the other end of the device spectrum. I just picked up a 64GB OnePlus One. Right now I'm using a Moto X. On TMo now with my BF. I've had every iteration of the Galaxy S since the original Captivate on AT&T up thru the S4 and I'm over Touchwiz and Samsung's lackluster build quality. I just recently had a G2 which I loved until I broke it. Been using the Moto X until I got something new and the One seemed like a great deal for the $$. Can't wait to try it out!

Already a ton of development for the OneplusOne and although there are small things I miss from my T/W S5 I'm satisfied. Of course I still have my S5 and not about to get rid of it LOL I feel the OPO is worth the money.

Can you temme the issues in brief please?

See I am on the other end of the device spectrum. I just picked up a 64GB OnePlus One. Right now I'm using a Moto X. On TMo now with my BF. I've had every iteration of the Galaxy S since the original Captivate on AT&T up thru the S4 and I'm over Touchwiz and Samsung's lackluster build quality. I just recently had a G2 which I loved until I broke it. Been using the Moto X until I got something new and the One seemed like a great deal for the $$. Can't wait to try it out!

Just a little stutter at times in the statusbar and an occasional freeze but over the last couple days seems to have settled. I don't like the keyboard style I prefer the Samsung's. Other than that the black sandstone back is great and feels great in my hands.
It just feels like a solid device in my hands. Not a slippery feel at all. When I have some more time to read I'll unlock the bootloader and root it. Rooting my S5 took mere seconds literally.

This phone is worth the price.
My only issues are that I find the vibration pretty weak barely feel it whilst phone is in my pocket. The camera is decent but doesn't match the IQ of let's say the Note 4 for example but it's adequate for what it does and sure software can help improve it when lollipop is out. Other than that my phone has been solid. The battery life is excellent probably the first device I've had that can last me the whole day with plenty in the tank left over. The screen is nice I'm used to AMOLED devices but I like the screen on the OPO too at least it won't suffer from any burn ins and such. Music playback is good and plenty loud for me via headphones. The speakers are decent being on the bottom rather than the back is useful. You have a very active development on the phone at the moment if your into flashing custom roms and such, CM11S itself is decent but as you are aware of the recent CM issues with devices purchased in India. Lollipop is due soon and the phone will be even better, I've tried the recent unofficial built and believe me it's even smoother than Kit Kat! All in all for the price you can't do any better it's a solid device for the amount paid and I love the slick design of the phone.

Thanks for the detailed review buddy.
I am too used to AMOLED screens, it will be my 1st experience of IPS display when I order it.
What I read that we cannot use headset during a call, is it?

Hello friends,
Here for a few suggestion and I mean genuine Please give ur feedback and experience
I have been here since long time, it's kinda a passion for me to upgrade to new phones. I am currently a user of Galaxy S4 just got an invite from my friend.
So willing to buy OPO but read that it has call issues and camera is very weird. Camera is almost same as of S4 both 13 mp but I want the users to speak out.
Help me out as the invite expires within 15 hours.
Regards

Will you guide me?
OPO is best phone I have owned, especially considering the cheap price. Customer service though is abysmal, from what I have read. So better hope your unit will not be a faulty one... Mine has worked 100 % perfectly so far.

I was nervous at first because on first attempt it was unusable. It was incredibly "jerky"... So I Odin to stock...perfect ever since. Even rooted and installed latest Breakdown. It's pretty damn amazing
Anyone who jumps, bought this? I can't justify buying it if I will just have to get rid of it when I get a new note device....damn you samsung for making it device specific.
sorry I know this is out of context

It's hard to know if it'll be future compatible with S7 or Note 6 as those devices don't actually exist in a format we can be sure of. Only rumors.
That being said, this VR supports far more than the One device Innovator edition so unless they change port layout or physical size, there's no reason why it couldn't work.

The one made specifically for the note 4...does not work with anything else but the note 4. Same justification was used with that as well lol. But I don't want to steal this thread

Yeah, I covered that.
"this VR supports far more than the One device Innovator edition"
There were multiple "one device" Innovator editions, but the Consumer version supports Note5, S6, S6 edge and S6 edge+, and cheaper. It has multiple size settings, which is a GREAT sign for possible future compatibility.
It's a pretty decent device and well worth it at the price.
Just because you'll jump in the future, doesn't mean it's not worth it right now.
How is the screen door effect? I have Oculus DK1. How does it compare to that?

It's definitely there. It bothers some folks, not others. Doesn't bother me much, I got used to it.
On a side note:
Some of the apps (same ones from Innovator edition) still give me motion sickness. I guess I'm just doomed to never run those apps.
You can tell it's there. I still love it though. Netflix is awesome using it. Watched a video yesterday of the blue angels flying at was amazing.
Edit. VR fine. It was the Arter kernel on my N5 Loco rom. Switched kernels to skyhigh and works perfect although a few random reboots on phone when using but not many. It's tolerable until an update comes out. But for now I'm running stock everything unrooted because the VR rocks that way and I've been showing it to many peeps over Christmas. Tomorrow I'll re-rom and kernel it back.
bump any updates on this?
The only rom/kernel that works with VR is Stock Modified. However I found that it causes issues with bluetooth and after a while my moto 360 stops getting notifications.
Wish roms could support VR, would make things easier
Darthstalker's Rom seems to work well with the latest Sky High
I've hard Breakdown also works, but haven't tested it.. Hopefully Tek is working on it for his Rom, but I doubt it.
Is there a way to use S4 with this device?

Dr room is the best one. With sky-high kernel but lately I keep going back to tekhd
Hey guys,
I kinda want to buy the S7 (since I can get it new for 450€ here in belgium), but I'm still not convinced (mainly because i lose warranty by rooting and lack of custom roms like CM). Can you guys tell me why I should go for the S7 and not for the OP3T (for example)?
TLDR; give me good reasons to get an S7
It's not for us to convince, you need to read reviews, look at camera samples, test the phone as a physical demo in a store, compare what you find against the same with the OnePlus and decide if the price difference is worth it
---------- Post added at 12:02 ---------- Previous post was at 11:57 ----------
Have you made the same threads in other device forums?
If no, then it sounds like you already know which phone you want
Get a Moto Z Force. OnePlus battery is awful. Only drawback of Moto Z is no notification led and no headphone jack but it comes with an adapter.

Well you're only going to really find 'Pro' S7 owners here lol
I think the phone is great, but don't have any others to compare it to, came from the S5 which I also thought was great
S7 is extremely quick, gets around 130k+ Antutu score, camera is stunning, battery life around 6 hours SoT depending on usage
Would I buy it again if I had the choice, yes
Plus Gear VR, you can get a headset either free depending on region and deal you get, or for about £40 on Amazon

thanks man,
i incline more towards the s7 because its 5.1inch (and includes one-handed mode in its software), while the 3t is 5.5inch (which is kinda too large for me, and it has no one-handed mode)
i only wish i could root without breaking knox & my warranty why u do dis samsung why
I usually root all my Droids, but haven't felt the need to with the S7
Bloatware can be disabled with Package disablers from the play store without root
Ads blocked using non root VPN blockers
Really they were the main things I needed root for in the past, but happy without it this time round

Everything, it redirects traffic through VPN to adblocker > phone
There are a few different ones, I've tried this one
https://block-this.com/
Seems to work well
Only use it for 4G though, I have an adblocker running on the network that blocks ads on everything DHCP anyway
Adguard too

I bought one a few weeks ago and wasnt sure about whether I would stick with it.
I think its a great phone.
- didnt think I would care but I love the design and the way it feels in my hand. In that respect I totally could not get excited about the Pixel
- battery has been quite good for me
- Ive only had it for a few weeks but so far its very fast and a pleasure to use from an interface perspective
- camera is great. really good and really fast. Im not picky about that but its noticeable how nicely it works
- I have been having a little of a problem where it seems like the bluetooth may not be as strong as the S4 I came from. Not sure why that would be but when listening on bluetooth headphones with the phone in my pocket I get crackles and interruptions where I did not with my S4. I feel like this shouldnt be the case but so far I have been having a little of an issue there.

thanks alot, what were ur previous phones? have u rooted ur S7 or dont u feel the need? (i kinda love xposed too much)
Ive had an S2 and an S4.
Held on to my S4 for a while because I didnt see an obvious reason to upgrade.
My S4 was rooted and ROM'd but so far have not been compelled to do that on S7.
I have both. Selling the One plus 3 as I don't use it any more. It's a good phone for the price but the s7 is just that little bit better in every way. For only a 10 euro difference I don't know why you're even asking.
Guess what, I just bought an S7 lol.
The first thing I always do on any android phone, is root + flash twrp + flash the best custom rom available. So which custom ROM do u guys recommend for the S7?
Congrats, make sure you read up on flashing TWRP, it's not as straight forward as usual thanks to encryption etc
Enable OEM unlock in Developer settings too
I think Superman ROM is pretty popular but I've just stuck with stock
I'm game: Get the S7 because you want a sub 5.5" flagship. It's screen is second to none, the Exynos processor is second to none. The camera is second to none. The battery life is good. With root/debloating, the speed advantage of AOSP is gone as Samsung has been making touchwiz better (and 7.0 better still). Get the dual sim model if you want all those things plus whatever reasons people us dual sim phones
...
Just read you got the S7.
First question is which CSC does your carrier use. If it's BTU, I'd say use a 7.0 Beta. If not, then use a S7 6.0 rom (or a better in many ways N7 port). If you use a N7 port, you will get your CSC from the N7 forum (same person released both version).
I like roms made by sac23 as his rom had the earliest support for T-mobile USA (s7 edge forums is more active with roms and they all work with the S7). I also like roms by tkkg994 as he seems to have the most comprehensive development work for the S7 (kernel/csc/3 roms). I prefer roms with rom control (which I use to remove am/pm from the clock and put a cirlce battery in place but is a more powerful theming tool).

Also, maybe get it used for less though 450 ~480USD which is reasonable assuming it includes VAT.
