[help asap?] Charging tablet directly with black and red wire - General Questions and Answers

yeah.. so can I connect red and black usb wire to power my brother's tablet? charging port is broken and there is no way to replace it. it has 3.7V battery, but does it matter if I take it off and solder usb's wire? does the tablet overheat and explode?

Running stock gb. Is there an app to make my phone switch to AC charging when using my car charger? I know I can solder pins 2 and 3 together to get the effect. I did that to my old charger, but I have a new charger and I don't want to modify it. I am going to solder a small USB extension cable if not. Thx

You can make it with extension cable, a resistor (50 K ohm min , 150 K ohm max) and PVC insulating tape. Cut the extension cable so you will have 2 ends with 4 wires.
red as Vcc+ 5V
white and green as D+ and D- (data)
and black as ground.
Lets assume that the big USB plug you gonna plug on the charger, is the input to our modification, and the wire with the female plug is the output of our modification.
We don't need the green and white data wires that coming from the input, since those are the "USB" signals. We need only the 5V voltage which is the red and black, so we must insulate with tape white and green. Don't strip them, just insulate.
On the output cable with the female USB plug we still have 4 wires and we gonna connect the ground directly with the input ground. Strip the ends, twist together and insulate with tape.
Then connect the red wires (input and output) and the resistor one end ALL Together and insulate with tape. (3 points as one - red, red, resistor)
Strip wires, twist together with resistor's one end and insulate. Leave resistors other end free for later.
Then strip and connect the output signal wires together (the green and white you have available) with the resistors free end. (3 points as one, white, green, resistor's 2nd end). Strip wires, twist all together, Insulate with tape and you are ready. You can insulate the resistor with tape and all the wires together so it will be nice looking. Try to make it straight and not too thick.
If you have the battery widget application by ELVISON installed you will see that your device has switched to AC mode.
Also, this is going to work as AC on a usb port of a PC. Good luck!
Going on the above post you could use a micro extension cable and just create a short six inch extension that can be used on any usb cable.
Why would one do this?
The microUSB charging spec requires a dedicated charging port to have two of the pins shorted together so that the phone can detect that it isn't a USB port/hub on the other end. A USB port can only supply 500 mA whereas a charging port (one that isn't trying to pass data and has the two wires shorted) can supply 1000 mA.
Many "cheap" (and a lot of "expensive") car adapters don't have the pins shorted so the phone thinks there is a live USB port on the other end and "protects" it by drawing under 500 mA from it. As a result, they only charge the phone "half as fast" as they could (assuming they could put out the full "1 A" = 1000 mA, check the label).
The "fix" is to short the pins together, either in the charger itself, or in the connecting cable.
The "fast charge mode" some kernels and ROMs supply basically tells charger in the phone, "Ignore what the cable is telling you, just turn off USB data and pull 1000 mA." Hence the warnings that you may permanently damage your computer or charger.

[Q] Photon Q got hot now won't power on

Hi everyone,
My first post as I haven't been able to find an answer. My Photon Q was probably about 30% charge when I last checked with it on. An hour or 2 later it was a little warm and was off. So I went to charge it using the car charger with 500mah charge rate. I came back about an hour later and the phone was really hot and no charging screen so I unplugged it. The green led light is lit when the phone is plugged in.
I tried holding the power button and volume down button, but it won't boot. If I have the usb charging cable plugged in from a PC or charger adapter when pressing those buttons, the green light will flicker off for a fraction of a second.
I then proceeded to dismantling the phone as I suspect a battery issue and the one in this phone is stupidly non-removable. After taking the back cover off, I tested the battery posts and received 0 volts. I still don't know if the battery caused the drain or if there's a short in the phone. I then took off the inside cover that holds the battery in. A few T5 screws later and the battery was removed. I connected the battery to some AA batteries in series to see if I could get a charge. A few hours later I got it up to 3 volts which held for several hours. So I connected it to a few more AA batteries in series to try and raise the voltage. I got it up to 3.67 volts and the battery is listed at 3.7 volts.
A day later and the voltage is still at 3.67 volts so I put the battery in the phone. I went to try and power it on, but nothing. I then connected it to a usb cord and received the slow flashing red led light a couple times before switching to green. The battery started getting warm again connected to the usb charger. After 20 minutes it was approaching hot so I unplugged the USB. The battery read 3.54 volts. 30 minutes later, 0 volts again.
Does anyone know what the actual voltage range is for this phone, as my old Samsung M320 is also 3.7 volts, but when testing the battery I get 4.10 volts? I heard it's pretty specific on minimum voltage. Any ideas for a temporary battery or way to boot the phone before spending $50 on a replacement battery and then find out there's a short in the phone. Is there another key combination to boot the phone, I'm trying to boot it to at least get my pictures and other data off it.

Not the battery, seems to be an electrical short but where
I bought a new battery for the phone which had a 0 volt charge when I received it. I tried putting it in the phone as is to use the phone charger to charge it, but got nothing. So I charged it using 2, then 3 and then 4 AA batteries in series to get it up to 3.7 volts. I then put the battery in the phone and noticed the 2 large chips and the chip centered above them located by the camera get a little hot. I tried with the charger connected and not connected, but same thing. Power button doesn't turn the phone on. Just the green led lit when the USB power cable is attached. So now it seems there must be a short in the phone. Anyone know where I can look to check for a short, blown resistor or something in this phone? Or at least where the rom chip is located so maybe I can turn it into a usb drive to get my data at the least.
Anyone? I still haven't been able to find a solution. I don't see pins touching, but if some pins are touching in the usb port, would that cause the heat issues when I put a battery in that I charged externally? I do get the green led light when I plug the phone in to charge so figure that means the usb is ok?

did you try a other charger ? do you have oryginal photon charger ? for me its not a reason of battery

Yep used the motorola cable that came with the phone (plugged in the wall and just the cable in multiple computers, another motorola house charger (the same as the one that came with the phone), a motorola car charger, and a samsung house charger.
When you say motorola usb service cable, I assume you're not talking about the motorola cable that comes with the phone? What usb service cable are you referring to?

if you buy / make this cable , you will be have posibility to use RDS lite and flesh firmware this also make help (if you have low battery flesh with normal usb cable is not possible )

[Q] Nexus 5 fast charge

How can I enable fast/quick charge ability on Nexus 5. I notice that with the OEM cable I get fast charge on my wall outlet but if I plug in any other cable it doesn't charge at more than 500mA. Is there anyway I can make it fast charge with any cable or is there a cable that I can use that is longer than the OEM one that will put the phone in fast charge? I use CurrentBattery widget to determine the current.

[FAQ] Charger mod, howto USB fast charge.

Get yourself a short USB extender wire, male at one end, female at the other.
Cut the wire in half.
Connect the red and black wires up as they were before (or don't cut them in step 1).
On the Female side of the wire connect the green and white wires together.
On the Male side of the wire simply leave the green and white wires connected to nothing.
Insulate the ends of all of the wires with insulating tape.
Tie a knot in the wire so if the wire is pulled the knot is pulled and not the connection you made, it doesn't look pretty but the wire will last a lifetime this way.

ASUS T100HA -Micro usb port damaged on the motherboard-

Hello I have a tablet Asus T100ha.The usb port is damaged on the motherboard and I'm looking for a way to charge the tablet. The tracks D-, D + and gnd are removed on the motherboard. I think there are alternative points to D- and D +. I have soldered 2 wire on gnd (gnd take on the shield) and V+ directly on the motherboard. The tablet recharge slowly when it is off. We can see the led of charging is on. When the tablet is turned on it will not charge anymore. In Windows the battery symbol show that the charger is not plugged in. The original charger is a usb charger 5v 3a and 9v 3a. I know there is a story around a 20k resistor, D- and D + and sense id. Thank you to enlighten me.

Please help me out with my mobile charging testing

Hi, for some testing purpose i wanna supply current to my mobile phone using micro usb cable but without traditional charging adapter. Inside micro usb cable i see 4 colored -white, black, green and red wires. So The red wire is a positive power wire with 5 volts of DC power.The black wire is the ground wire (similar to most all electronic devices).The white wire is a "positive" data wire.The green wire is a "negative" data wire.
So my question is should i use red+white wires for positive charge supply and black + green wire for ground?
